New Fantasy Food Truck Caleb’s Traveling Tavern Opens in Austin | Eater Austin

"I found Tiny Minotaur at 2701 Cesar Chavez Street in the Holly neighborhood; it's an immersive tavern centered on fantastical role-playing games and currently hosts Caleb's Traveling Tavern as a pop-up. The location makes sense given both businesses' fantasy focus, but because Tiny is a members-only venue or requires a day pass, Caleb's can only serve Tiny members or day-pass holders during its limited hours." - Nadia Chaudhury

Austin Roleplaying Experience Tiny Minotaur Opens Games, Food, and Beers | Eater Austin

"Founded by Dana Bauerle-McKnight as a late-2020 gaming-and-dining pop-up, this immersive half-live-action roleplay, half-experiential dining installation brings character-driven fantasy tabletop RPGs into reality via an outdoor bar and performance space. Guests assume characters, receive standard adventuring provisions (drinks, bread, and pickles), and work through quests that culminate in simulated combat using giant wooden 20-sided dice while interacting with a troupe of somewhat-scripted hosts led by the Orcish character Oakda. Built on local collaborations—most notably a hot honey-and-garlic sourdough by Tyler Carpenter of Abby Jane Bakeshop and partnerships with neighborhood bars that hid quest items—the project grew into a crowdfunded permanent concept nicknamed Big Tiny. The new East Austin location will host large-scale roleplaying sessions, workshops on costume design and makeup, a rotating food-truck co-op that waives typical rental fees for participating chefs, and a bread-and-beer program with Abby Jane and Central Machine Works to encourage experimental small-batch offerings." - Matthew Monagle

If you like Fantasy and RenFaire this is the place for you. It is FANTASMICALLY whimsical. Come in your medieval garb and feel at home along with the rest of us. I can't wait to go back.

Absolute-best themed bar in Austin. They’re committed to the theme in the entry expressive and the decor, but in a way that’s welcoming and not exclusive or intimidating. Somehow it’s both a great conceptual/playful event venue, and also a great, relaxed neighborhood tavern. Costumes highly encouraged, but both times I’ve been everyone’s just as welcoming to folks in plainclothes. On top of that, they have the best non-alcoholic cocktail in the city (the Garden Gnome); unlike most zero-proof mixed drinks it doesn’t just taste like sugar water, it’s balanced and refreshing. I wish the food options were slightly more substantial or on-theme (right now just “glizzies”), but on the whole this place is incredible and a real part of Austin’s spirit.

I wish I could give more stars, this place is absolutely fantastic. I was blown away by the whole place, there are so many little details to admire especially the outdoor space. The staff really transport you with their interactions and intricate costumes, and provide excellent, prompt service; the food aligned with the theme and was also incredible. What made the night for me was a bard playing live music throughout the evening, his performance was so entrancing and really made the night spectacular. Can’t wait to visit again, thank you for an amazing experience!

Came here with friends and the best way to describe it is that it is an experience. The people who work here commit to their roles and provide excellent service. I had a wonderful time while here tonight. It is definitely a welcoming place and feels like a safe space. I'd like to return again next time I'm in Austin. I recommend it. Great work guys.

Such a fun atmosphere! A fabulous place to leave the stressful world behind, and have some roll playing fun. My husband and I visited their open house in Jan 2024. We enjoyed it so much, that we are putting together our costumes to return and become members (not necessary, but is a great deal). Whether you are into DnD, Pirates, Larping, or just having a tasty beverage (highly recommend the Hot Toddy) and chatting with friends, I highly recommend the Tiny Minotaur Tavern. We'll definitely be back!

Yelp
I love this place soooo much!! After they opened the inside area it's so warm if it's chilly outside :) The theme of this place is incredible, super duper heart filled atmosphere with attention to detail. The vivations are delicious and it seems the membership is highly worth it even if one person in the party is a member. There's snackies too which is epic. I like that people dress up, I felt in place to also dress up (my favorite)

Yelp
Are you ready to step into a world where everyone is caring, attentive and not looking at their phones? Are you worthy of an evening of magic? If so, consider yourself welcome at the Tiny Minotaur, a tavern that is so old school Austin that it transcends time and space. Trade your dollars for horns, peer into your future and let the fates decide! Only after many quests and challenges was I welcome at the Tiny Minotaurs gates, but I assure you, it was worth it. Support this magical space you slags! We're lucky to have it.
