The Torridon

"Fifty miles west of Inverness on the banks of Loch Torridon stands the Torridon hotel, the one-time Victorian shooting lodge of local laird the Earl of Lovelace dating from 1887. It would be tough to find a prettier hotel in a prettier spot, like a mini-castle in acres of greenery. The interiors remain oh-so-Victorian with acres of original wood panelling and ornate ceilings, but with added cozy and contemporary comfy sofas in tweed-like fabrics, while the pine-panelled whisky bar has a different malt or blend for every day of the year. There’s no spa because who needs a spa when the great outdoors has so much to offer: walks through the woods and hikes up the munros, wildlife tours and mountain biking trails, and dips or kayaking in the loch. Food-wise, the Torridon doesn’t disappoint, head chef Paul Green cooks local: kedgeree fish cake, cured trout tartlets, Orkney scallops, as well as fresh halibut, and stunning Highland venison. As for the 18 rooms, it's a case of save the best till last. They are lush, with massive beds and even bigger headboards, each decked out differently with soft velvets, thick carpets, in-room baths or wide sofas, and most come with beguiling views across the loch. Then there’s the private self-catering Boathouse—simply wow. Did we mention the option to hire supercars to take for a spin?"

The Torridon (Torridon, Achnasheen) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Set in the impossibly dramatic landscapes of the Scottish Highlands, the Torridon stands alongside the loch of the same name. It’s not the easiest place to get to, but it’s worth the journey; it’s surrounded by almost 60 acres of parkland, and looks like something out of a Romantic-era fairy tale. The interior style is refreshingly contemporary, and richly varied, as are the rooms and suites, not just in the house but in the outlying stables and the private Boathouse as well. 1887, the restaurant, is Highland Scottish fare at its most elevated, while Bo & Muc offers more casual and perhaps heartier restoration after a day spent at the Highlands’ various outdoor pursuits." - Tablet Hotels

I recently stayed at the hotel to celebrate my 60th birthday with my wife, daughters and their partners. I've stayed here a couple of times before but the staff made this one of the best hotel experiences I've ever had. From the desk staff to the restaurant and whisky bar staff, everyone was super helpful and welcoming. We booked the Library for a celebratory dinner and the food and service were out of this world - one of the nicest meals I've had in a long time. I can't thank the management and staff enough for making this a really memorable weekend. If you want to be spoiled - this is the place!!

Wonderful hotel. We stayed in the Stables, which are cheaper but not that good. The hotel proper is gorgeous where they lovely Lounge, excellent food and a terrific whisky bar ( and barman!). The scenery is Scottish magnificent and we went for most enjoyable walk around the estate. Thoroughly recommended.

Stayed for two nights at the Torridon. A wonderfully warm, Scottish reception - welcome drinks, seated in a comfortable lounge. Lovely bar area and food is good - particularly so in the “fine dining” restaurant (it deserves a Michelin star). Room was fine albeit a little unconventional regarding layout. The breakfast was superb and the staff are brilliant - they are knowledgeable and experienced. A little minus point - the food and surrounds in the second restaurant (in the courtyard) isn’t strong enough - an average menu with unremarkable food and younger student like staff. Work a few days at and well placed for a drive around the coastal loop to the Applecross Inn.

Outstanding! Come if you love history, fine food and natural beauty. Best stay of the NC500. Staff is amazing, amenities are wonderful and total attention to detail. The prefix dinner is exceptional and well paced. Bring a barrel of cash as you will need it but it is well worth it

Our stay was very good. The room was pleasant & well equipped. Dinner at the Bo & Mac tasted lovely. Only let down here was using toilet paper to dry my hands in the ladies! The Tasting Menu in the 1887 restaurant was outstanding. And something the whole family not just adults could enjoy. Throughout our short stay the staff were exemplary. Very attentive, great knowledge of the food, drink & local area. A must for whisky fans. And the kitchen garden should be seen.

Just back from The Torridon spending 2 nights with my wife.||Unfortunately it never met our expectations.||Breakfast selection was disappointing, no choice of any cold meats, cheese or salmon.||No selection of bread and only got toast on our second day after prompting and meeting the Duty Manager expressing our disappointment with our first breakfast.||Staff require more training explaining what is available as not everything appears on the menu |This includes orange juice etc|No Grapefruit juice available |You also have to ask for butter ||Duty Manager mentioned they have recently been awarded an environmental certificate and they are concentrating on waste factors hence they don't have certain items out on display |YOU HAVE TO ASK FOR THEM |Never a 5 star experience||No one clearing plates |No check back |No offer of coffee or tea refill|No turndown if you are staying at the stables||I advised the Duty manager that the hotel has one chance |One impression with every customer to get it right as there are so much competition at this level ||Unfortunately for us the hotel failed on many accounts.| I felt they are leaning far to much on where they are positioned ,|which is absolutely stunning as opposed to getting the finer points for their customers correct.

Some aspects were disappointing given the apparent quality, cost and historic awards. The grounds are stunning, the room we had (No. 2) fantastic, the hotel ground walks were excellent and well marked. We had to walk to the Bo & Muc Brasserie which is a hundred yards or so down the lane. It was of no more than a below average pub quality - some of the food served was cold - why they cant open the hotel restaurant is a mystery - I have never stayed at a four star+ hotel where I have to take a walk down the road for dinner in a pub. Breakfast was a surprise - we asked for but could not get any white, brown or granary toast, all that was on offer was sourdough (a first for me).

Yelp
Lovely accommodations with lovely service. Team works hard to make guest feel welcomed and comfortable. Bed is the yummiest! Dining is okay. Had a bad experience at the pub.

Yelp
A superlative place for a quiet, romantic getaway. The staff are friendly, the selection of whiskies and gins is unbelievable (300 malts & 50 gins), and the hotel and grounds are gorgeous. We ate three nights in the hotel's dining room, and each was a splendid affair. Old-school service (amuse-bouche in the drawing room before "going through" to the dining room, and an ever-changing array of delightful dishes. We enjoyed local beef, venison, salmon, and some delectable desserts. Chef was very warm, and always came out at the end of dinner service to say hello and chat about the meal. There are dozens of activities to participate in courtesy of the hotel and surroundings. We took advantage of the landscape, and did two beautiful hikes along the lochs, and partway up one of the nearby mountains.

Yelp
Amazing food probably the best I have ever had. Amazing location, lovely staff! The best food definitely recommend! The rooms are amazing , lovely interior . They have an activity department and and pub for less expensive food but still great ! 58 acres if ground to explore including a garden, loch side , woods and more ! The best hotel ever! P.s.this hotel won hotel of the year in Scotland! Visit the website www.thetorridon.com

Yelp
Wtf amazing! We had originally booked the inn next-door, but once we saw the hotel we booked the last room in the hotel. Wow, absolutely the coolest place we've ever been. We were doing the north 500 and this was definitely the most worth it place to stop. The mealwas ridiculously five star and the service was the best it could've possibly been. We will definitely be making the trip halfway across the world to come back to this magnificent place. Will definitely recommend this to all of our American friends and family.

Yelp
Overcooked and cold food would not recommend. Beautiful location though.
