My wife and I have stayed at this hotel before and returned because of the positive experience we had the 1st time. The location is brilliant, its within 5 minutes walk of everything you would want to see in Stratford Upon Avon. The staff are very friendly (especially the barman) and efficient. The bar and restaurant are dark wood and really In-keeping with the whole Olde World amosphere. Our room was at the front of the hotel and, unfortunately does NOT have second day double glazing, just the original sash windows which let in EVERY bit of sound so we were woken by every vehicle that went past, starting at 5.30 a.m. The main room was clean, neat with tea, coffee and kettle, I had to get new batteries for the TV remote. The bathroom however not nice. There was mould and a badly repaired crack on the ceiling in the shower. There was also a tile in the shower that was falling off the wall which did fall off during our stay. The sliding shower door was hanging off the runner which almost fell on my wife when she went to close it. The sink took an age to drain away and there were 2 6" tracks of mouldy silicone outside the shower. Looking at previous reviews these things in the bathroom were all present last year so nothing has been done about them. The carpet in the hall is threadbare. At breakfast my wife asked for white bread, toasted, but she was brought sourdough bread and was told "thats all there is" but she doesn't like sourdough bread. Menu states there is a selection of local BREADS.|It's advertised as 4 star hotel but I think its in need of some TLC before it's worthy of 4 stars.

Really disappointed with my stay. It is very central and used to be a great social venue with good reputation for its rooms. Not so now. My room was tired particularly the bathroom with rusty shower attachments. Streaks down the wall from condensation. Wardrobe was a dark alcove and no way was I putting my clothes in there. Check in was non existent. Waited, walked around and in the end phoned to wake them up. Worst eggs Benedict ever. Stone cold and overpowering vinegar. Needs a good shake up as used to be great.

Impressive, historic buildings in a great location. The staff are lovely, friendly and accommodating. Unfortunately, the interia is in need of repair. We were told, shortly before arrival, there was a leak in the room but it was just noticed and only affected the ceiling over the shower. The main room was mostly unaffected, until the next day when the leak had spread, and the shower was still usable. Reading other recent reviews it is clear the leak has been present for more than a week, one showing water damage above the bath from September last year so not a new problem as reported to us. Didn't dampen the weekend as it was still a positive stay

Booked for a special night away with my wife. On the face of it the booking says 4* and the photos looks great, sadly not! It’s a lovely building but needs some serious tlc. Our room number 5 had a massive water leak in the bathroom (see photo) that must have been there for months and not fixed. Multiple stains on the carpet, a window that wouldn’t open as the sash was snapped, the toilet was leaking, and we had no towels in the room. The main entrance had thread bare carpets, and going into our room was hazard tape in the floor. Definitely not 4*! I said to the hotel reception and they said they were fully booked, couldn’t change the room or offer any other option. Very poor service. See photos from room 5. Such a promising hotel, just well work and not cared for. I’d look elsewhere.

One of Stratford-upon-Avons Hidden Secrets. An excellent rustic, quiet bar at The Townhouse. Great atmosphere, super bar & staff, really pleasant place to have a nice quiet drink without the hustle & bustle of a pub bar/area. Loved the cosy warm feel and the ambience of this lovely hidden gem, Old Town. Highly recommend. And the Beer is GREAT! (07/02/2025 after 9pm)

A very convenient location for exploring Stratford on foot. At weekends there is a car park a few hundred yards away. There's no hotel reception, you check in at the bar. |Its an interesting building and although its in a central location it was quite quiet. Our room was quite large with a very nice bathroom with bath. It was clean and the hotel looked well maintained but the stair carpet was a bit tatty. |If you book direct with the hotel you get a continental breakfast included - pastries & bread which you can toast yourself. They serve more substantial breakfasts but they are extra. There are a number of local cafes which were serving breakfast - we went to Yolk.|We ate in the hotel on our first evening and had a very good meal.

I had the steak and fries, and a mackrel with this courgette that had been marinated and left in garlic oil etc. It sounds basic but it was cooked to a ***** standard. I used to travel and get per diem with work so used to max out my allowance on decent food. I was concerned about the prev chef leaving, but the new one is better. The service is friendly here. I rarely eat out The bar has a few locals but not 'an American Werewolf in London' type if you are staying from out of town. I would choose this over a Marriot or elsewhere if staying from work. 1 min to the bar and restarant from the room, 30 secs you are in town.

We loved The Townhouse and definitely recommend. We were on the top floor and had a corner room which was amazing. The room itself was really big, very clean and had everything you could need (including a safe). Excellent location to everything. The room was so stylish that we felt like royalty. We parked in the council car park because it was a weekend which was perfect. The breakfast was amazing and we loved the fresh croissants. We also had dinner at the restaurant downstairs and our meal was really lovely. Staff are all so friendly. We attended a show in the Royal Shakespeare Theatre which was a short stroll from The Townhouse and were really pleased we did. Recommend booking directly so that breakfast is included.

Yelp
I stayed here for three nights and what a lovely time I had. The staff is friendly, the rooms are fantastic and the you couldn't ask for a nicer place to walk to and from to when you are staying in Stratford-upon-Avon. Absolutely fantastic. Will definitely stay at again.

Yelp
When visiting Stratford Upon Avon with some friends, we decided we wanted afternoon tea and this place was exactly what we were after. The bistro is in a grade II listed building and is located only two minutes walk from the Royal Shakespeare Theatre so right in the bustling town centre. The furnishings are plush and comfortable with an array of different seating with soft cushions and there is a bar located next to the dining area - a great place to meet for pre dinner drinks. We were seated immediately and were given a few moments to pursue the menu. We ordered afternoon tea at £10.50 per head which included salmon and cucumber sandwiches, scones with strawberry jam and clotted cream, victoria sandwich cake, and a pot of tea. The tea was lovely and very filling but I would have liked to have seen something else other than victoria sandwich cake as it felt like cream and jam overkill having that part of the scones too. The waitress service was friendly and attentive, and although we spent a couple of hours there I did not feel like we had to rush and vacate our table. If you have eaten or drunk a little too much, you can retire to one of their twelve ensuite bedrooms. A lovely bistro that I would happily return to again.

Yelp
This was our third visit to the Townhouse. We feel really comfortable here. The welcome is warm although it's all very casual. You have to find someone to check you in, usually everyone is busy at the bar. Our room this time was at the top of the house, small but beautifully formed. We really appreciated the mini decanter of port, the biscuits, the bottled water and the classy toiletries. The bar is busy but we bagged a table a couple of times and enjoyed the papers with a pint of good beer. Also enjoyed watching the comings and goings of the locals, this is definitely a locals spot. Food was good, we enjoyed breakfasts and also a dinner. Service was a little hit or miss but the food itself was good - it felt. As if the waitresses were a little stretched. We waited half an hour for our bottle of wine...this felt like we were being punished!! On Sunday night there is always live music and an enthusiastic crowd who come along to sing and dance the Sunday night blues away. It's loud and it's fun. Add the splendid RSC theatre and a Bank Holiday vintage car event and a craft market and plenty of sunshine and smiling faces and you've got all you need for a happy weekend.

Yelp
It must have been an off night last Sunday. We had to hand menus back as they ran out, then waited near an hour for a pre booked table. Some of the food was excellent. Small portions and no fries with burger with no explanation. Hopefully just off night as previous vists have been excellent.
