The Tudor Pass at Great Fosters

On September 27, we dined at The Tudor Pass, while staying a Great Fosters Estate. The meal was exceptional...creative both in preparation and presentation. Executive Head Chef Stefano Di Giosa and his team clearly demonstrate a passion for haute cuisine and pleasing their guests. The tasting menu consisted of six courses, with a few additional surprises at the end of the meal. Of particular note were the Chalk Stream Trout, Hand-Dived Orkney Scallop with Sturia Caviar and English Peas, and the Spring Lab with Courgette, Apricot and Wild Herbs. The room was intimate and the service was impeccable...fully attentive, without being intrusive on conversations. Each course was described as it was served, and the presentation was both inventive and highly creative. (See jewel box photo below.) It was indeed, a most memorable evening and recommend this restaurant for "foodies" and those desiring to become one!

Absolutely amazing meal at The Tudor Pass at Great Fosters to celebrate our anniversary. This has always been a great, intimate restaurant, full credit to Chef Stefano Di Giosa & his team; Luka, Liam & restaurant manager Chris who have elevated this restaurant to a new level & made us so welcome, making this a truly memorable meal. Stefano is one of the most inspirational young chefs around, the food was all exceptional, the hand dived Orkney Scallop amazing! All perfectly paired by Chris with some great wines, I particularly loved the Japanese Koshu, something very rare to find in the UK.

The Tudor Pass, Great Fosters, Egham The Tudor Pass is a small, elegant dining room within the historic Great Fosters hotel in Surrey, holding a single Michelin star under head chef Tony Parkin. The room seats perhaps twenty guests at most, with heavy oak beams, pale lighting, and comfortably spaced tables that allow conversation without intrusion. Service is efficient, courteous, and notably unpretentious. A tasting menu was offered at £145. An initial canape of smoked eel tartlet was delicate, the pastry very fine, and the eel’s gentle smokiness balanced by a touch of apple acidity. This was followed by a crisp bite of chicken skin topped with liver parfait and truffle, the rich, saline note of the liver nicely offset by a hint of sweetness from a port reduction. The bread course featured a house-made sourdough of high quality, served with cultured butter that had a pleasing lactic tang. The texture of the crumb was supple and warm, suggesting careful fermentation. A dish of Orkney scallop arrived next, lightly seared and served with cauliflower purée and a sherry vinegar dressing. The scallop was perfectly timed, translucent at the centre, and the vinegar added a precise lift without overwhelming the natural sweetness of the shellfish. The main course of venison with celeriac, smoked beetroot, and a juniper reduction was exceptional. The meat was tender, cooked to a blushing pink, and the beetroot’s earthiness deepened the sauce’s aromatic sharpness. A small dish of pomme purée—more butter than potato, as it should be—completed the plate. A pre-dessert of green apple granita with yuzu curd was well-judged, cleansing and bright. Dessert proper was a chocolate délice with miso caramel and hazelnut ice cream. The miso added a faintly savoury edge that worked effectively to prevent the richness from becoming cloying. Service throughout was attentive but not overbearing, and wines were intelligently chosen by the sommelier, whose recommendations showed both knowledge and restraint. The Tudor Pass is a kitchen of precision rather than spectacle. Dishes are measured, flavours clean, and presentation refined without affectation. It does not chase novelty but pursues balance and craft. On this evidence, its Michelin star is well earned. Food: 8/10 – Service: 8/10 – Ambience: 7/10 – Overall: 8/10

The Tudor Pass – a sensational exhibition of gastronomic excellence and best of British sustainable and seasonable dining featuring local produce! There are Michelin-starred restaurants that deliver perfect plates, and then there is The Tudor Pass—where every dish is a story, every sip a scene, and every detail a piece of edible and nature-inspired art. From the very first amuse-bouche, we fell in love and were guided through a gastronomic delight for over 3 hours. The tone was set by the most warming, welcoming and cared for service we have ever experienced. We love this mighty team and were already planning our next visit and weekend stay before we left the table! The cocktails were no less captivating. A blushing pink creation crowned with a raspberry felt like summer in a glass, light and sparkling. In contrast, an amber-hued old-fashioned, its citrus peel spiralling like a ribbon of sunset, offered depth, warmth, and a touch of smoky sophistication. Top tier choices for us were the sourdough potato bread, trout, scallop and lamb - absolutely unreal. Thank you, Chris, Alex, Rose, Luca, and Stefano, for not just feeding us, but transporting us. At The Tudor Pass, the table is your stage, and the performance is unforgettable. Thank you for making my husband’s birthday extraordinary.

Great food in a small setting. Just 7 tables. The different chefs do an excellent and very personal presentation of each dish at the table. Great wine pairing. Superb

My wife and I had an amazing meal and experience at the Tudor pass for our 1st year anniversary. The staff and chefs absolutely smashed it, the food was amazing with every dish having a back story or history towards it. The service was on point from a team who seemed genuinely happy and proud to be there. It was great to meet Head Chef Alex Payne as he came out to introduce some of the dishes alongside his team. We highly recommend this to anyone considering coming and plan to return in the very near future.

Have been here many times and it never disappoints. Yes if you compare to a pub meal it expensive but not for a Michelin star. If you are looking for something a little decadent or for a special occasion I would highly recommend it. Whether it’s for a 4 or 7 course lunch or a dinner the food it so beautifully prepared, you may feel as I used to that the portions are small so you will be left feeling hungry but this is far from the case as with several courses and the richness of the food it’s actually very filling and this is coming from someone who trust can eat! The taste of each dish and balance of flavours and texture contrasts are all carefully thought out and compliment each other. My personal favourites are the current scallop dish, the beetroot dish and as someone who is very particular about deserts the blackberry dessert was phenomenal and I’ve been to many different fine dining experiences including some 3 stars. It was a delight! The staff are so friendly and helpful I’m sometimes come on my own just because why not and if they have time they are happy to chat but are also very professional and on the ball with timings and drink top ups, can’t fault them. The general feel of the restaurant is warm and cosy with an intimate feel but doesn’t feel stiff or uncomfortable as some fine dine establishments do. Perfect for any occasion whether for intimate diners for two or family get together me, business lunches, anniversary or even as decadent lunch for one and a good book. If you’ve ever thought of trying a Michelin star dining experience and felt nervous or put off because you won’t fit in or feel comfortable then rest assured this is the perfect place to try that will put all those doubts to rest.

I strongly recommend the 7 course tasting menu perfectly created by Alex and his team. The experience was very intimate with only 7 other tables, you are not given the menu before hand which I loved because it meant you could enjoy the food without an pre-conceived notions on whether you would like it. The chefs come out with every course and they provide a little story as to where the ingredients are sourced from. The presentation was beautiful and the food matched! The waiting staff were also very attentive and lovely. We also had the wine pairing and the smellier was great in describing the wine flavours and how they paired with the food we were about to eat.

Great Fosters Hotel was simply gorgeous. From the fabulous manicured grounds to the historic buildings and the excellent Michelin-starred restaurant, we absolutely loved our stay and highly recommend it. Our room was beautiful and we were grateful for the air conditioning. The Tudor Pass restaurant, now helmed by Executive Chef Stefano Du Giosia, had just reopened after a short break, ad we were the first dinner guests under his watch. Maitre d'hotel Chris was a charming conversationalist as we waited for the 7-course tasting dinner, sharing much hotel history with us. The excellent wait staff included Alex, Rose, and Luka who were all truly professional. Stefano came out of the kitchen from time to time to chat with us, explaning the dishes and their origins, as well as describing how closely he and his staff work with the hotel's gardeners to sustainably source vegetables and fruits on site and meats from the best UK regions: local lamb, scallops from Orkney, trout from Chalk Stream, and more. The presentations were lovely and the flavors exquisite. Luxury farm-to-fork! Most of all, the dining experience was friendly and cheerful, not stuffy. We highly recommend The Tudor Pass restaurant, whether you are a guest at Great Fosters or just passing by.

Worst customer service ever for a luxury resort. We had booked and CONFIRMED our reservation a month in advance. Just 1 week before our arrival, the hotel contacts us to say " so sorry, we are over-booked. Sold out for an event." Bullcrap..... we are getting bounced for an event that will need our suite and bring the hotel more $$$$$. Their " solution" is to move to another resort almost 2 hours away from Heathrow and offered us an airport transfer. NFW- no free night or anything. We will go elsewhere where guests are treated better.

Great Fosters saved our Christmas! My family had issues with our Airbnb and had to seek out alternate accommodations last minute. The Great Fosters staff set us up with three brilliant rooms, and were incredibly engaged with our wellbeing. My brother and sister in law have a five month old, and they set them up with a travel crib, brought room service on nights it wasnt offered, and assisted them whenever they had questions. The hotel is absolutely beautiful, extremely well kept, and would make an awesome wedding venue. The workers there take pride in their positions and are friendly and helpful. We will certainly be back when we visit my grandma in England again. Thank you, Great Fosters' team. You are all appreciated, especially the room service room, wow you guys were fantastic!

My husband and Irecently had the pleasure of staying one night at Great Fosters hotel. Nestled near the heart of Windsor, this historical gem of a hotel left an indelible mark on us with its impeccable service and charming ambiance. From the moment we stepped through the small "door-in-a-door" we were immediately captivated by the enchanting and historical interior that exuded classical English charm. It was clear that great effort was taken to restore/preserve its history yet it still achieved the expectations for modern comforts. We were quite hungry the day we arrived and requested tea and we were escorted to a charming and secluded tearoom to our delight. The tea service was excellent and was a wonderful start to our stay. Afterwards, we took a stroll in the gorgeous gardens of the hotel and then retired to our room to rest before dinner. Our room was a blend of traditional and contemporary décor with a mix of antique furniture and modern amenities that provided us with a comfortable and relaxing space. It also had a scenic view of the amazing garden and grounds, which we truly enjoyed. To top off our stay, we ate at The Tudor Pass that is located in the hotel, which was absolutely outstanding. Great Fosters was truly a tranquil retreat where we were able to unwind and appreciate the beauty of an English estate and we wish we could have stayed longer. We highly recommend Great Fosters for anyone seeking an unforgettable, beautiful and historical hotel with excellent service and amenities.

Great countryside location just outside London. Very close to Heathrow airport, maybe too close. Actually 4 stars instead of 5 is due to the noise of the planes. Not all rooms are very well sound proof. The whole hotel is built in an great castle where the Royal family was used to get for hunting. Perfect preservation of the old structure with all the modern comforts. Lot of dining rooms and conference rooms for any activity. From wedding party to corporate meetings. Swimming pool and restaurant. Most the veggies and cheeses are coming from the venue's farmland. Pricey, but hey, you got to have your castle :) Great and professional service.

Stayed here for a couple of nights. As you would expect in Europe, the rooms are smaller that folks for the U.S are use to. Service was second to none by all staff members. If you have a reason to say here, go for it- does take you back in time. Great place to have a wedding...

Let's meet over a curry, said my client. Sure thing I said. Perfect idea as I had been travelling for 36 hours without sleep. Casual clothes, mounds of spicy food and a disregard for good table manners were just what I needed. Then he took me to a restaurant, and I quote from their website: "Gracing an estate of more than fifty acres in what was once the heart of Royal Windsor Forest in Surrey, Great Fosters is the most distinguished of hotels - a Grade One listed building blessed with the grandeur of 16th century England and luxurious modern facilities." The description does not do this perfectly restored property justice. It is beautiful and perfectly captures the atmosphere of a fine gentlemen's club where you could happily wile away the afternoon in a leather armchair with your banking pals and a fine bottle of cognac. A tad underdressed in suitcase creased jeans and a thick woolly jumper I may have been, but the staff did not miss a beat in their welcome or service. And the food was fabulous. A mushroom soup with truffle that I will wake up thinking about for months followed by salmon dressed with a caper and seafood jus, perfect creamed potatoes and steamed vegetables that all made me want to lick the plate. Totally delicious and made all the more enjoyable by faultless, attentive, friendly yet discreet service. As perfect for a business lunch as a romantic dinner with somebody's wife. I'll be back as soon as I've pressed my suit.

The Great Fosters Hotel is a beautiful, Grade 1 listed, 14th Century building with vast and beautiful grounds. It's said Henry VIII once visited there. It's beautifully preserved with exposed, wooden beams, ornate wooden panelling, painted ceilings and paintings. The gardens are beautiful too, with decorative bridges, water features (they've got a moat!), plants and shrubbery. I was there for a Wedding Reception. So, I can't comment on the Hotel as a place to stay or the restaurant. It's not cheap but it did make and amazing venue for a Wedding.

Has Christmas lunch here recently with colleagues so can't comment on the hotel aspect, have to say the service was exceptional from all staff we encountered during our arrival, meal and departure. The food itself was well made, although pricey, it's the price range you expect from this level of venue. The grounds were exquisite although parking was very limited which makes me deduct one point. The entry to the main hotel/restaurant area has a lowered door and step up and it was not evident if there was any disabled access, although there must be something available. The lowered door seems rather dangerous, if you're walking in with a group and don't pay attention to the sign warning you it's quite likely that you might knock yourself out! The grounds look absolutely beautiful although we couldn't explore due to it raining all the way through our visit. This would be a fabulous venue for a wedding I imagine it would really be a day to remember.

My husband and I had a perfect stay at Great Fosters. The setting is amazing and historical and magical and it's only about 15 minutes from Heathrow! We stayed in one of the historical rooms and could not have been more comfortable. The most is from 500ad, it was the hunting lodge of Henry the viii and housed the mad King George! Very impressive! Even though there were weddings inside, we didn't see them or hear them and the hotel was super quiet and restful. The food was excellent and there were tons of gluten free options-- the gluten free bread was the best that my husband ever had! The food is all farm to table and was the best we ate in the U.K. The staff were all super friendly. Make sure to take the time to explore the gardens and surrounding area.

One of the most amazing places I've stayed. The facility is a hunting lodge, and has been upgraded to include all the necessary amenities to keep you feeling 1600's but with today's Class. Food and Staff are first rate, and it's an amazing experience in civil elegance. The magic is here, and can be found in all the details, and attention. Most remarkable.

An otherwise pleasant stay marred by a rude clerk at the end. There's a "Rosie" in every hotel, perhaps, but the really good hotels train them properly or let them go. We had a late night accommodation the night before due to a late flight, tired and hungry, and were told by the night clerk that we'd be able to check out late at 1:00 pm to give us a nice respite. How nice! However the day clerk, our dear "Rosie", called after 11:00 and was insistent we leave. ...forcing us to scramble out of our room to leave. No compromise, no accommodation, we were nothing short of "liars" in her mind, no benefit of the doubt, nothing in the system that backed us up...the 11:00 am policy stood pat. Too bad...staff can make or break a hotel...certainly NOT the Ritz Carlton treatment (if you've read the book, "Rosie" certainly hasn't....) So, rather than making a simple 30 minute or so adjustment, "Rosie" and her hotel policy must stand pat until the bitter end. Giving a willing return guest to "about face" and give a poor review. The manager tried to apologize, to make up for her callousness, but after overhearing "Rosie " cover her backside to the other staff attempting to make excuses to substantiate her treatment, we remained unconvinced of the apology...to little, to late. ...in the end, the guest is the "opponent" in her book and we should be treated accordingly. It's a shame. I would look elsewhere for your hotel accommodations...or else you'll be on her targeted list.

Excellent hotel. Beautiful architecture and gardens. Service fantastic. If you love history and very English then visit here. It is stunning.
