In-Depth Review of The Twenty Two New York - AFAR

"Located at 16 E. 16th St. in Union Square, this glamorous British members’ club and hotel—an outpost of a Mayfair original—occupies the historic Margaret Louisa Home (built 1891), its stately exterior “floating” above the preserved facade and offering a quieter perch steps from the bustle. It attracts a fashion-forward, well-heeled crowd with eclectic, alluring interiors (floral wall tapestries, abundant artwork, mosaic-tiled floors) and intimate lighting; couples, small groups, and nightlife-oriented visitors gravitate to its cozy rooms, candlelit dining, and convivial Café Zaffri. The 78 rooms (including 19 suites and a rooftop penthouse) are classic and distinctly British, featuring marble bathrooms, fully stocked bars, plush beds with oversized mohair blankets, en suite breakfasts with coffee and fluffy French toast, and a functioning rotary phone (dial 22). Downstairs, Café Zaffri is a public Lebanese restaurant led by an all-women team beneath a soaring pink polka-dotted ceiling; members’ and guest-only amenities upstairs include a French–Italian raw bar, garden terrace with skyline views, gym, and nightclub. Staff are sharply dressed, attentive but unobtrusive, and accessibility is addressed with 12 ADA rooms accessed via spacious elevators. A variety of annual membership tiers (under-30s from $1,800; 30-plus from $2,750, plus a $1,500 joining fee) and international/couple options are available, though anyone can book hotel rooms and Café Zaffri is open to the public." - Tiana Attride

In-Depth Review of the Twenty Two in London - AFAR

"Housed in an 1891 nine-floor former private residence near Union Square and scheduled to open in September 2024, this new outpost will feature 77 rooms (including 17 suites and a rooftop penthouse), a ground-floor restaurant run by the team behind a Michelin-starred kitchen, a private members’ club on the second floor, and post-opening amenities such as a gym and outdoor spaces; interiors will be a contemporary take on American Shaker, mission and Craftsman styles by a London-based design team." - Lyndsey Matthews

The Twenty Two New York (New York City, New York) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Despite what the song says, it’s equally true that if you can make it in London, you can make it anywhere. The Twenty Two New York is a London import, named for its sister’s address on Grosvenor Square, and while it’s cut from the same cloth, it’s not an exercise in Anglophilia. Rather, it’s one part Manhattan history, thanks to its home in the restored Margaret Louisa Vanderbilt house, and one part international modern luxury, just like the London-based hotel, restaurant, and private club with which it shares its name." - Tablet Hotels

From check-in, our experience at The Twenty Two was absolutely incredible. The staff were amazing, toured us around the hotel and unpacked our bags into the gorgeous wardrobes (folded and categorized to perfection). It's the details that made this place special. The rooms were beautiful, the food was fantastic, the downstairs bar and the member's area served incredible drinks and the mini bar was STOCKED. ||Initially I wasn't sure about staying in Union Square but this being located on the West Side on 16th (a quiet street), I realized the convenience was worth it. Easy access to everywhere in the city but still feeling like I has space to relax. I love the location and if you are a Subway user it's super convenient with every train line close by. ||I really can't speak more highly of the space and the team at the Twenty Two. I've stayed in many high end hotels in NYC and around the world, and I'm definitely converted to this being my new spot when in the city.||Thank you to the team!!!!

My wife and I are currently staying at The Twenty Two in New York. ||They say it’s the way you respond to an issue, rather than the issue itself, which gets a hotel good ratings. We did indeed have a somewhat comical, but minor issue, when shown to our room. It was quickly and effortlessly resolved but what happened next reassured us that our stay at The Twenty Two would be a comfortable one. Firstly a call from the front desk making sure we were both okay. Secondly a card with an apology plus two plates of assorted cold meats, cheeses, crackers and preserves arrived along with something suitable to accompany them. Delicious! A big thank you to whoever organised the tasty snacks. ||So far the staff here have been exemplary. Little things like not enough coat hangers, a quick call and minutes later we had more. We headed out for a walk and sought advice from the guys on the door about where we could grab a drink. They couldn’t have been more helpful. ||Finally when we arrived back at our room I couldn’t seem to work the temperature gauge correctly. Within a few minutes of my call the maintenance guy appeared, showed me how to set it correctly and said he’d be working all night in case we had any further issues with it. ||I have never before written a review of a hotel whilst currently staying at one. However I have no doubt that the remainder of our stay at The Twenty Two will be a memorable one.

This hotel was excellent. Quiet, jewel box of a room, beautifully decorated and spotless. An oasis in NYC. You cannot beat the location, steps from Union Square- walking access to the best neighborhoods and steps from the subway. The room was thoughtfully laid out and there was attention to detail that differentiate the great hotels from the good ones. Only ask would be for Nesprwsso machines in the rooms- luckily there’s an excellent coffee shop right next door. ||Every single staff member I encountered went above and beyond. ||This is a gem of a boutique hotel.

Absolutely loved staying at The Twentytwo. You can’t beat the location. So convenient to the subway at Union Square and a nice walk to SoHo, Greenwich Village and the West Village. Great restaurants and bars in the neighborhood. Located next door to Bread Bakery which was such a great way to start my day. The staff and service were excellent. Love the nice touches in the rooms with brass toggle switches controlling the lights. 24 hour room service.

rooms are small (par for NYC?), however, nicely furnished. service is great, polite, prompt. they were generous to check us in early morning. location is one of the best. union sq is always bustling. renowned bakery adjacent to the hotel. overall pricey though :) its a business trip for me. otherwise, forget it.

I’ll make this short and sweet as my experiences with twenty two hotel was very unpleasant. No one in the place smiles, feels very unfriendly. Hotel shower and sink were clogged, with poor cleanliness compared to the status of this hotel. Poor customer assistance. Don’t recommend.

I had a terrible experience at Hotel 22 in New York. A friend of mine who was staying at the hotel offered me his room for the last two nights of his stay. When I arrived with his key, the front desk refused to let me in—even just to wait in the lobby—until he arrived. A staff member named Francis eventually came down, heard the situation, and immediately told me to leave the hotel. I asked politely if I could at least wait inside the lobby while trying to reach my friend, and he refused. Francis was not only unhelpful but incredibly disrespectful in the way he spoke to me. Instead of trying to resolve the situation calmly or offer any kind of support, he kicked me out without any empathy or professionalism. This was honestly one of the most disappointing and unnecessarily hostile experiences I’ve had at a hotel. I hope management seriously considers how their staff treats people—especially when they’re just trying to find a solution and not cause any disturbance.

This is my second stay and love it just as much as my first. They had some growing pains when they first opened (what hotel doesn’t?) but made it up in service. My second stay has been amazing. My new fav hotel in nyc. Special shout out to Avery and the staff who are excellent and create a warm welcoming vibe!
