The Best Chicken Wings In Philadelphia - Philadelphia - The Infatuation

"Manayunk’s Union Tap House has 18 different sauce choices, and all of them go beyond the typical BBQ and lemon pepper with flavors like strawberry jalapeño, pineapple express, and a subtly smoky bourbon molasses. Orders come in 10 jumbo-sized crispy and saucy wings, and if you’re into spicy food, the Thai Hot is the way to go. If the sizzling burn gets too much for you, their outdoor tables near the Schuylkill may help you cool off (at least mentally)." - candis mclean

The 13 Best Bar & Restaurants In Manayunk

"Let's be clear—with stark tavern interiors and a few picnic tables out back, the primary reason people come to this dimly lit bar is for the wings. Outside of having some of the best in town, they also have the most variety. Union Tap House has 18 different sauce choices, and all of them go beyond the typical BBQ and lemon pepper. We’re talking flavors like strawberry jalapeño, pineapple express, and the subtly smoky bourbon molasses. Orders come in 10 jumbo, crispy, and saucy wings that you’ll need more than a few napkins to handle. " - candis mclean

Different Cheesesteak #1212. Spoiler alert: I liked it. The cheesesteak by itself probably isn’t winning any cheesesteak contests but as a whole I liked The Union Tap House. The cheesesteak had a very good ‘we have been using the same grill for 30 years’ flavor. Onions added good flavor. $14 and 2 pickles, you know I liked that. Lively, friendly, and eating crowd. Old heavy wood decor. Cool old tile floor in dining area. Lots of chicken wing trophies. Young woman to my right helped me with the WiFi. (sidebar - I am happy that I have reached the age where young people know to just take my phone and do whatever task I am trying to accomplish) I had a lovely chat with the young man to my left.

Google
Union is awesome; the food, the atmosphere and especially the service,… I don’t even know where to start in terms of nice things to say about this local establishment… but I guess I’ll go into detail on the service. During my last visit Claudia was my server, she was fast, attentive and friendly as she served me up a mountain of delicious chicken wings with a nice side of generously poured Irish whisky! I was also told that she did all the landscaping out back which just adds to the already authentic atmosphere.

Google
Absolutely loved this spot! Great vibe, the beer selection is legit, and the service is on another level. Our bartender was incredible—super friendly, fast, and made us feel totally taken care of all night. It’s rare to find a place with great drinks and genuinely great people behind the bar. Can’t wait to come back. Highly recommend!

Google
Pretty good bar food! Wings were good. However, too much sauce for the BBQ flavored wings. Fries are good! Nice beer selection too.

Google
Nice local pub with pretty good eats and a nice beer selection. The food overall was very good but took a while to come out, especially considering we were one of the only tables ordering full meals. All sandwich and cheesesteaks come with the choice to add fries for an extra $4. Since we had already gotten fried pickles and split 10 wings, we probably could have skipped this, and the fries were fairly unremarkable. Fried pickles were excellent and the wings are as good as advertised. My firebird turned out to be an excellent choice. This cheesesteak comes with jalapenos, bacon, and a habanero cheese that gave an awesome kick. Wow! The 1/2 lb bacon burger looks small but is A LOT of burger and was tasty. The French onion was a unique take on a cheesesteak and came with a cup of jus on the side to dip. Nice touch. The pulled pork was slow cooked and full of BBQ flavor without being oversauced. Id like to come back here again sometime for either their Tuesday sale on wings and trivia night Wednesdays. Thanks for a solid meal!

Google
I’m new to Philly, and this was my first time at Union Tap House. The atmosphere was great, and the service was friendly and attentive without being too much. The chicken wings had good flavor, but I think they could have been cooked a little longer for better texture. The burger, though, was perfect, juicy, and full of flavor. Overall, it was a good first experience. I’d definitely come back.

Google
Great service! Nick was an amazing server and offered great suggestions on what to try. The French onion cheesesteak was amazing and the wings are to die for. Try this place you won’t regret it!

This little hideaway was a surprise to me. The food was delicious and the adult mango slushy was a good way to relax in the summertime. The food took a little time because the kitchen was short staffed but the wait was worth it. I was so disappointed that they ran out of fried pickles but the chicken was good with varied sauce options along with the fries. The chicken quesadilla is a must-try, the cheese has a pull folks. There were a lot of different sandwich options as well as vegetarian ones as well with something for every pallette. The menu also had draft beers, bottles/cans, wines, and mixed concoctions that sounded yummy. Nice spot to drink and chill or order to go. I will be coming back to get some fried pickles though 😋.

Yelp
Since moving out of the neighbor I haven't been to this spot in over a year. Made a return last weekend and the wings are just as amazing as I remember! We got the Souther Country, which is a dry rub garlic parm, and strawberry jalapeño. Both delicious! The menu has been slightly updated but over all the same. Service was great and overall appearance was the same. As always my favorite go to wing spot.

Yelp
I have been here many times. Service is okay sometimes slow but usually it's just fine. I am obsessed with their cheesesteak because they use COOPER SHARP which is the ONLY way to do it Delicious and perfect. Annoying they charge $1 before tax and tip for ONIONS - not really reasonable imo but I just don't get them. Unrelated: want to say the wings here are amazing and some of the best in the area for sure. I'd recommend getting a basket of fries for $7 rather than adding a side of fries to your entree for $4 especially if with a friend or partner..... Really dislike places that do this but I guess it's nice to have the option ! Trivia night is dicey - get there by 6:15 for a table. People are crazy for trivia.

Yelp
This neighborhood bar is a gem...IFYKYK! Been here many times, couldn't believe I haven't reviewed yet! Always a solid draft beer list...the food choices from the Nachos to the wings...the food is consistently good! The service is good and bartenders are easy going! Gotta keep Union Tap House in the rotation...because I enjoy the laidback patrons and that is a win when you just want to have a cool night out!

Yelp
Fun little dive bar near where two of our daughters live! We met them for some beers and grub one night recently. We tried the Kelce brothers beer while we were there and it was really good. We had sandwiches, wings, fries, etc. and it was all good. Oh and the bartender Shae was very attentive and sweet. It was a lot of fun and I'm looking forward to hanging out with my girls there again soon.
google avatar

Kate B.

Yelp
From the outside, this place looks like a scary dive bar. Actually it kind of does on the inside too. But the staff is great and so is the food. We have cheesesteaks and wings. All A+. We also sampled the funnel cake fries. Super delish although probably more of a dessert than an appetizer. We will be back next time we're in town.

Yelp
Found this little hole in the wall in manayunk and I'm already obsessed with it. This is the PERFECT spot for any locals as it isn't very crowded, but the food and service is great. Tons of pub food to choose from (the wings are incredible) and they have televisions everywhere if you want to watch any of the games like me! I will be going back often.
google avatar

Yelp
Cute and quaint neighborhood bar. Great menu with even better specials. The beer selection is pretty good and the drafts do change but don't worry there are always great new beers and good standbys. The burger was huge, fresh and delicious. They get their buns from a bakery in Conshohocken and they are fresh and amazing. Back to the burger every morsel was delicious and big enough to share. The wings are crisp and delicious. Wing are half-priced on Tuesday nights! Sometimes the staff is a little stretched but the service is always on point. Totally love this place!!

Yelp
I feel as though my first review after my first time going does not do this place justice. I have honestly never eaten in, I only do pickups. but, I am now months later very passionate about this place. I get the same things as my first review, buff chick cheesesteak, fried pickles, mozz sticks. it's all under$40, this feeds two people, great portions and great quality. they are fast at making the food and it's honestly my favorite little comfort place in the area. if you haven't tried the union tap house please do. will not regret.

Yelp
Quality service, good wings, good crowd. Out of the way of Manayunk Main St but a good time. Wish they still served food as I wanted to try their burger but it was getting too late for real food when my friends and I arrived. Their hard lemonade was nice but not knocking me out of the park. I suspect their beer was probably superb but I tend toward sweeter beers and I never know what to order. Most US options seem more toward the bitterish or sourish side. Almost every time I've asked staff anywhere (not particularly here) for suggestions, they are always good but not what I am looking for. Feels like a bar that avoids the typical college kids that seem to get overly drunk as it isn't as easy to walk to or notice if you aren't already in that particular vicinity.
google avatar

Jordyn K.

Yelp
My favorite local dive bar. The hoagie cheesesteak is truly one of my favorite. The wings are pretty top notch too.
google avatar

Luke A.

Yelp
This place may look like a hole in the wall dive but it is a MUST in Manayunk. It serves as a reminder that bar food one of the best kinds. Their wings are what they're known for (if you've read more than just this yelp review you can probably tell that). But that is for good reason. Absolutely top notch stuff, shoot I'm craving it now! Service was good as well. I really am craving this place a ton.

Lucy E.

Yelp
Great cheesesteak! Service was slower, but there was only one waiter and we were outside. Not going to give 4 stars, but maybe don't go if you're in a rush.
google avatar

Jasmine S.

Yelp
Beers on tap, tavern/pub food, great selection of bourbon/rye and pretty good wings. 4/5 on the wings. Prepared to my request (extra crispy and sauce on the side). The sauce options were plentiful and flavorful as well. The fried pickles were bland and not worth the $. Inside the establishment - dimly lit, multiple TVs and a bustling bar area. Will be back!

Quinn B.

Yelp
Love this place! They have the best ice cream!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yelp
Amazing vegetarian options at a bar?! YASSS! I can't wait to come back for the Angry Widow. I have been craving a meatless cheesesteak forever and this hit the frieken spot. The Angry Widow was a generous portion, so I was excited to be able to take the other half home with me! Another YASSS about this bar was that they were playing The Office. I don't even care that I couldn't hear the show, I was just so happy that they were playing it. The only reason Union Tap House didn't get five stars was that it took a while for the waitress' to warm up and be friendly and it seemed like they didn't know who was assigned to which table. However, as the night went along (no idea what our waitress's name was), she was very friendly, attentive, and answered all the questions we had about the menu. Random thought: I wish they had more lighting in the bar.

Molly M.

Yelp
This place is a great hidden gem. My fiancé and I went for dinner, each ordered a cocktail, Cajun fries, lemon pepper wings and a French onion cheese steak. Absolutely delicious and the price is unmatched, will definitely be back!!

Yelp
Food always good service is awesome very polite staff very chill vibe and they sale brunch on the weekends every Tuesday is wing night Wednesday is trivia night

Yelp
New appetizer Mini Corn Bread Bites are top notch. Amazing work by staff with this addition.

Yelp
My favorite bar! 10/10 would recommend. Great rotating taps and Honey Caribbean wings are amazing!

Yelp
This place is so much more than it looks on the outside. Excellent food. Great service and the outside patio area is so cute!

ScarFace O.

Yelp
I"m from Medellín - Colombia.. The food was excellent, we ordered the chicken wings with Caribbean honey. OMG so delicious!! If you are in Philly you has to come to this place. Also we ordered the nachos. Really good. I'll be back next Monday for MNF lol.
google avatar

Matt R.

Yelp
The gold standard for chicken wings in the area. Jumbo sized...every sauce flavor under the sun. I recommend that Thai hot or honey Caribbean. Regular hot wings will do the trick as well. Some of the best crisp cut boardwalkesque French fries as well. Skins aren't peeled type fries that come with their special house sauce. If you ask me what else is good to eat there, I really couldn't tell you because I'm not dumb enough to deviate from the amazing wings. Has a recurring tap list of about 10 choices of very high end palate pleasing microbrews. Also have some rare whiskeys and bourbons. Shout out to this place for actually getting Goose Island Bourbon County on tap (Mon Cheri in December 2019) and Founders Canadian Breakfast Stout. This place helped me get through the pandemic with some great take out and growler fills. Will be forever indebted to them.

Yis L.

Yelp
Went here to grab a beer and a bite thinking it would be a homier little place with some character. We went and sat at the bar on some open barstools and were ignored for 20 minutes. Not even a "I'll be right with you" just never even acknowledged. Felt racist and cold. Finally asked for two draught beers - they were flat. Had to loudly ask for a food menu because she would have never offered and wouldn't even come close to us. She kept refilling drinks around us but refused to ever stop and ask us if we wanted another. Wings took a half hour to come out. Super loud obnoxious people in a relatively small room. Hate the vibes. Terrible service. Understaffed. We were in there for probably more than an hour and a half and just had one flat beer.

Jeffrey B.

Yelp
Great overall experience. 10/10 wings, everything else is solid too. Staff are great and all take laps making sure everyone has what they need. Good bar scene
google avatar

Yelp
Great corner bar! We love the staff, the food, and the beer selection. Great for meeting up with friends, grabbing a quick drink, trivia night, catching a game, or enjoying the nice weather. Feel very grateful to have this awesome spot in our neighborhood.

Dennis G.

Yelp
Fantastic atmosphere. Owner was nice and the bartender was cute. Great crowd. This place never disappoints.

Eli H.

Yelp
Great atmosphere! Good food and drinks. We tried different flavors of wing and they were amazing.
google avatar

T.J. S.

Yelp
By far the best wings in Philly! There are a ton of options, we did the buffalo and the Caribbean. Will have to circle back on a Tuesday for 1/2 off wings.
google avatar

Ciera F.

Yelp
This place has the best wings in town!! So good and I love the flavor options. Thai Hot and Honey Caribbean are my favorites! They also have great fresh cut fries! Definitely worth stopping by!
google avatar

Jeannie C.

Yelp
Cheese fries, wings, and chicken Caesar were great. Service was wonderful. We ate here in the back patio(great atmosphere ) area with our five yo son and he loves it (even though it isn't a typical kid hangout)

Cayla C.

Yelp
Always understaffed so food takes a while, but lemon pepper wings are my favorite. Fried pickles are also very good

Liam S.

Yelp
Looks like a fun place. Just don't expect them to have the liquor you want. And forget a Manhattan/martini glass. And forget being asked if you'd like to see a menu or order any food. I've been here three times. And every time the sweet bartenders says, "Oh my gosh...so strange, we're out of that right now...I feel like we don't have a lot in right now." Another guy just walked in and ordered Maker's Mark and....surprise surprise, the bottle is empty je the bar tender says, "Oh my gosh...so strange..." I like a nice neighborhood bar. But I like it, well, I'm, you know.. stocked.
google avatar

Carlos B.

Yelp
Union gets a solid 4 stars. It's exactly what a neighborhood bar should be. The food is really good! I usually get the tap house burger which is a very reasonable 11 bucks (not including fries). They're also known for their wings which are delicious but pricey. Their draft list is decent with variety of options and they have a pretty extensive bottle list. They've got a really nice back area with shade too! The main warning here is that while service is generally very good it can be variable. Their food wait times can be extremely long (50-60mins) if they get crowded but their generally transparent about that up front which I give them credit for. Two times their grill has been down and they only had fried food. Some kinks to iron out for sure but a solid 4 stars worthy of a visit if you're in the area.
google avatar

Steve J.

Yelp
The wings we had were huge, crisp and well dressed (hot). Beers selection was great and plenty of local choices. On the outside it's a humble corner bar as pictured in other reviews. When you factor in the picnic tables and nicely set up, off street outdoor dining area, it's a nice place to eat or drink. The neighborhood around it is on the rise and the people are friendly and young.
google avatar

Amit K.

Yelp
Hands down the best bar in area. They have great beer. But a large bourbon/rye selection. Pretty good. Chance to try a few which are not available readily. The food is bar food. But really good bar food. The locals love this place.
google avatar

Sam M.

Yelp
Went yesterday with 2 co-workers and had a good time, bartenders were cool and the wings were legit, I had the garlic parm my co-workers had the hot wings and lemon pepper, I was surprised they were playing some old school 90's rap which was a plus and atmosphere was chill....My only issue was the time they open I have a long commute back to Bristol and 4pm is a little to late for me to head home and beat the traffic of 76 and 95.
google avatar

Grasielle C.

Yelp
Dive bar with tasty food, lots of room for you and your friends, great background music, and a friendly attentive staff? Yhup, sounds like union tap house!

Brian B.

Yelp
Tried the Tap House about a month ago after hearing really good things. Had wings and a burger the first time, both really good. This time I had to get the wings again and they were good again. I would say they are a can't miss. I was disappointed in their jalapeño cheese fries. The fries themselves were soggy and not so good but I really liked the cheese. I also got a BLT which was absolutely awful. I just have to say if you burn the toast do NOT serve it to customers. It's little things like this that will keep people away. (Sorry about pic. Other half was much darker)
google avatar

Lerone G.

Yelp
Good wings & cold beers ! Decent portions on the sides , We'll be back soon for sure !

Courtney T.

Yelp
Best wings! Got them crispy with sauces on the side and they were perfect. Highly recommend.

Yelp
This is the spot folks...this is the spot I was first introduced to Bourbon Molasses wings. The wings here have won many awards and my god man look at the list of flavors, not your typically flavors, they have many options that will make you want to pick more then one sauce but be forewarned then you must order at a mininum two sets of ten wings aka come with a friend. I can go into great length on this place but this is the type of place you will either love for its benefits, not too expensive, the wings are over a dollar a piece but come on guys its hard to find better deals around when you go out nowadays or if you do not like a smalll dive-ish bar may not be for you. I am pretty turned off by the restaurants on Main Street now as you are not getting a good bang for your buck as they know if you come to Manayunk to shop you are probably going to eat here and they charge you coming and going for it (try the 16 dollar by the pound ice cream on the corner why don't you. This is a great option that is a little off the beaten path but not too far you can't walk it. And as always people SYOY!!!
google avatar

Kristan K.

Yelp
The wings are mouthwatering....new favorite combination of their hot and garlic is off the charts perfection- they so need to offer this as an option!. I so appreciate them for accommodating that as it was a flavor burst like no other. The waffle fries nachos with pulled pork...perfection. As someone that lives in the city this dive bar may outdo ones I highly ranked. I went twice this week if that says anything. Service is a bit slow as they really should have another person and or a runner/bar back on, but our server was so friendly and accommodating it's hard to ding them for that...only comment is you could get a larger tab though we weren't in a rush. Went on Wednesday and Friday. There's quizzo on Wednesday's. It may have been the oddest quizzo I've been to as they run through ten questions each round without time for thought...you have to go back at the end of the round. Also you can't hear everything if you aren't sitting near the emc. Odd to me, but my focus was the food, drink, and company. I feel I need to make this a weekly regular go-to as the food really speaks for itself.
google avatar

Kristy D.

Yelp
Really would say this is a 3.5. We got the mozzarella sticks, jalapeño poppers, and buffalo chicken wrap (fried) and waffle fries. The mozzarella sticks were okay. The jalapeño poppers were interesting, they were more breaded than anything and had only a tiny slice of jalapeño inside them. The buffalo chicken wrap was AMAZING. Absolutely loved. The waffle fries were okay, a little too greasy for my taste. What I did not like is that we asked to change out the ranch that came with the jalapeño poppers for blue cheese and we were charged without notice as well as we were charged additional to have the chicken fried instead of grilled for the wrap. The cost wasn't the issue would have just been nice to know prior to placing our order.

Yelp
This is my new wing spot. I'm upset that I've been living in Roxborough for 2.5 years now and this was my first time there. I got the Pineapple Express wings after having them recommended to me from the bartender. They did not disappoint. They are tossed in a pineapple habanero sauce with pineapple and bacon pieces sprinkled on top. These wings were cooked to perfection and had great flavor. They have a long list of wrong flavors but it Will be hard for me to get anything else after having that. The fried pickles were really good as well. They used dill pickle spears which were very well seasoned and came with a spicy chipotle sauce. I would definitely order them again as well.

Rk H.

Yelp
I've been to the Union Tap house several times and the food and service is always good. However, this recent visit on 1/3/24 left me questioning if I will support them anymore. I had a taste for a cheesesteak and i had theirs the week before and it was pretty good and I felt it was better than the local Dalessandro's not too far. I called ahead and ordered the cheesesteak and requested it with mayo, fried onions and some extra pickles because it already is served with slice of pickle =$13. I went to pick it up and my total was $16.20. Now i expected i might have to pay for the extra pickles cause some places are currently charging extra for pickles and sweet peppers. But Union Tap House had the audacity to charge me .50cents each for fried onions and for the mayo. The pickles was an additional $1 charge. I immediately looked for my receipt on my phone from the previous week and sure nuff I was charged for the mayo and fried onions then as well. I understand prices and everything is costing us more but I be damned if I'm gonna accept paying $1 more cause i want friend onions and mayo on my cheesesteaks when they are staples and no place charges for that. Thank you Union Tap House, your food is good however you are nickel and diming-correction.. You are .50 centing us to death for things that are considered condiments for a cheesesteak and should be complimentary. This is just out right raping of your customers pockets.

Gerry T.

Yelp
Awesome wings. Good feel. Good beers, food, ambiance. Perfect neighborhood bar. All the wing flavors are great
google avatar

Michelle P.

Yelp
The Union Tap House is a completely unsuspecting little neighborhood spot off the beaten path in Manayunk that happens to specialize in wings and beers. The atmosphere is relaxed, yet not divvy. The old-school music posters hanging throughout the establishment were a great touch of "chill". If I were to make my own bar in my basement, this is kind of how I'd envision the whole thing. I was absolutely surprised by the depths of their beer list. Not being a Phillytapfinder bar, nor being right on Main Street, they could easily slip right under the radar with quality drafts like Lagunitas Waldos' Special Ale and bottles of Neshaminy Creek's Shape of Hops to Come. However, it is their wing selection that could probably put this little spot on the map. Come hungry and come with a group looking to sample a bunch of styles. First and foremost, I found of all the wings I sampled, they did not skimp on the meat. You can dowse anything in sauce, but you need to have that solid base of good breasts, thighs and drumsticks. As far as sauces, my group decided to go with the mild buffalo wings, Caribbean honey and Bourbon Molasses. Each sauce was unique and hard to compare stylistically, but enjoyable for its different merits. I look forward to going back to try more of the flavors. I can see good things for this local spot and hope it never loses its neighborhood charm.

Yelp
We ordered to go and they made sure we knew which wings were which. Excellent selection and choice of wings. They were large wings so sometimes that freaks me out but they were well fried so not too much extra weird meat. I would return for wing night. Wish they had a special wing night so you can truly try all the flavors.
