The Weekend Guide: Public Art, Fried Chicken, and White Water Rafting in Charlotte

"If you’re not a beer drinker, sample the sophisticated ginger ale—which has more bite than sweetness—on the rooftop at the Unknown Brewing Company, overlooking Bank of America Stadium."

Best Places to Eat and Drink Around the Carolina Panthers’ Stadium - Eater Carolinas

"Known as a place that tries to keep Charlotte weird, this brewery has a recently renovated rooftop element that is just the place to catch a look at the skyline and the Panther blue-lit Duke Energy Center on game day. Try the Feather Light craft beer (yes, Charlotte has concocted light craft beer) or the Pre-Game Pilsner with a bit of hoppiness. Need to hydrate? Sip on the craft-made ginger ale, with a kick of spice. Don’t miss: The Carolina Sendoffs hosted by the brewery, to wave the team bus by as it drives down South Mint Street. The first one of the season is Oct. 13." - Remy Thurston

It’s changed n as men’s to HopFly. The beer isn’t that good. Just not my kind of place, but it might be yours.

Yelp
I have grown a bit weary of IPAs and HopFly has a fabulous selection of all types of beers, changing frequently. I'm a big fan of the Blenders and Pastry Sours here. The ambiance is great and Jeb is a delightful bartender. We tried to play trivia at HopFly but the place was packed! We will get there earlier, next time. It's dog friendly and has comfortable seating.

Yelp
Rarely do I get a flight when going to a brewery but with so many hazy IPAs it was difficult not too. Delicious beer. I also am a sucker for a good logo and this place has it covered. The star of the show was inside the brewery. Super chill spot with couches and chairs. We camped out and watched college football to get away from the cold.

Yelp
Went here for a few beers and some snacks before a Panthers game. Good beer selection, and the flavored popcorn you can buy in a bag was very good. Great outdoor seating area that's right by the street. Yet it's fenced in, so you feel safe and have a little bit of privacy. Great place to relax for a few hours.

Yelp
Great stop on our mini brewery crawl! I really liked the outdoor seating area. The bartenders were friendly and there were two food trucks to choose from. I enjoyed both the Crunchtime lager and the cranberry sour they had on tap!

Yelp
I love a micro brewery! I obviously came here for the IPAs. This brewery is nice and the beers are hazy and full of flavor. Something that really stood out to me as a mom was that they had a changing table in the bathroom. Being from New York, most breweries don't take into account that a lot of us beer drinkers and parents to babies and small toddlers so that was truly appreciated. The place was bright and open and you could tell it was on the newer side. They also had an outdoor area that you can enjoy when it's not too hot outside. We opted to sit inside

Yelp
HopFly is by far my favorite brewery in Charlotte. It's severely underrated and doesn't get near the credit it deserves. Their beers are incredible and always have a huge selection. Katsu Kart (the food truck there) is my favorite food truck I've ever ate at anywhere on this planet. The people there are always in a good mood and super personable. And they always have great music to match their vibe (even DJs sometimes). The aesthetics are detailed and flow well with their brand. You can hang out in the main area room downstairs, but I personally always end up upstairs in what feels like a loft room (complete with a bar) and their patio is my favorite in the entire city. Go after sunset and have an awesome time.

Yelp
Fun spot to hang out and grab a drink with friends. I came here to watch the superbowl a couple months ago; they were hosting a taylor-themed watch party, and my friend is a huge Swiftie so naturally we ended up here. It's a nice light, vibrant spot with enough large tv's to watch any game. We had a fun time! They of course have beer and a few other wine, cocktail options. Also nice we were able to order food delivered during the game.

Yelp
One of the best breweries in Charlotte! They are known for their fun and innovated sour smoothies and IPAs. Their beers have a lot of flavor to them, and they liked to do a lot with different fruits. Additionally, their service is fantastic with always friendly, helpful, and patient beertenders.

Yelp
Stopped in for brews before the soccer game. Good beer and food truck. Plenty of tables and an outdoor deck looks at the BOA stadium. All in all a very nice brewery

Yelp
Hopfly Brewing Company hosts the Katsu Cart food truck and that's what brought me here. The brewery wasn't very busy but there wasn't anything going on downtown. Normally this place is packed. I ordered the draft cocktail they had but I forgot the name. It was tasty. I sampled a couple things on tap but couldn't find anything I liked (I'm not a beer type of person). The atmosphere was nice. I love the hanging flower baskets. They had live music and there were was plenty of seats inside when we got there. The place started to fill up later in the night. Overall good experience. I enjoyed the cocktail and was able to order soft drinks for my underage amigos. Hopfly Brewing Company 1327 S Mint St Charlotte, NC 28203 (Review 762 overall and 21 in 2023)

Yelp
Great chill place with plenty of seating, hanging plants and COCKTAILS for those who don't love beer.
google avatar

Eric B.

Yelp
The beer selections were solid, good ambience, and great service. They had live music, inside games on the TV's and a nice upstairs outside patio with a view.
google avatar

Josh C.

Yelp
Great place, great views, great beer. Good place to go to watch Charlotte fc games. However there was no food while we were there and parking was limited even though it wasn't packed
google avatar

Stephanie J.

Yelp
I was so happy to see that Charlotte now has a HopFly location! I've purchased several of their cans from local bottle shops and have liked them all. The taproom is located in the space previously occupied by Unknown Brewing. On this visit I tried a pint of triumph (an IPA) and the blueberry cheesecake blender. If you are in the area or passing by, this place is a must visit.

Yelp
I was walking around south end just strolling waiting for a table at Lincoln Street nearby and happened to find HopFly. It looked huge and nice from the outside so my group and I decided to stop inside to see what it's all about! Turns out it was another great brewery with a variety of selections. Opened up about a month ago. We will be back again. Drinks: 4.7/5 - i had the florida seltzer which i could taste the guava which was delishh!! All the beers and drinks were made in house. I'm also OBSESSED with their beer cans... the art on the cans is sooo pretty and cool!!! Service: 4.8/5 - attentive, nice staff that was social. They recommended that we check out the upstairs. Nothing over the top though. Vibes: 4.7/5 - the inside was open and large and bright. It was open right to the outside front which sits on Mint St. There is also a nice upstairs area that is smaller with a small rooftop with a decent view of the uptown skyline. Great for large groups! Closeby to other poppin areas in southend. Def a nice place to stop by if you're waiting for a table at a restaurant nearby. Other: I think this used to be the same building as Unknown brewery? Which is now gone. It looks like there is some surface parking to the right of the entrance. If not, there is street parking nearby but you may have to walk a block or two.

Yelp
I really like how HopFly doesn't feel dark during the day like many breweries. It's light and bright, and usually not overcrowded. That said I don't particularly love their beer, but they have some other options which is nice. Bartenders are usually quick and friendly as well.
google avatar

David B.

Yelp
Great beer selection. Happening with great TVs to watch sporting events. Would definitely hit it!

Scott V.

Yelp
Vanilla. In a city like Charlotte with so many good breweries and brewpubs what stood out the most here was the fairly uninteresting selection of beer but even more so the sterile environment seemingly full of 20-somethings all trying to be heard over the other. If you are in the area I believe Alongside Brewing and/or Frothy Beard to be the far better experience. Side note: the Japanese food (Katsu Kart) is fantastic.

Yelp
HopFly was so beautiful. What an incredibly location. We walked in just as they were opening although they didn't have anything on tap, they had a wide selection of cans for us to choose from. It got busy very quickly so this place is popular. Beers are very reasonably priced as ours were 6-7 dollars. Highly recommend stopping in if you live or are visiting Charlotte

Yelp
It was a beautiful space, good customer service, good location and the two sours I had got two thumbs up from me! The Orange Creamsicle really lived up to its name! There was a decent crowd last night before the Garth Brooks concert but the line moved smoothly. The major draw back was how loud the music was playing. It was really hard to maintain a conversation with my friend right next to me or across the table.

Yelp
Light, refreshing drink, for a hot day in Charolette. Dog friendly is always a plus!
google avatar

Iwona A.

Yelp
I love the seating variety. The decor comprises of plants and white walls, which makes the whole atmosphere feel light. There are good beer flavours and some options for those who aren't fans of beer. There is also a rooftop area with a great view of the uptown skyline. There is a ping-pong table for people to play.

Yelp
We had a wonderful time enjoying beers and the atmosphere. Loved the sour beers and the bartender was very friendly and helpful.

Yelp
Very good place to have a beer, their Charlotte fc watch parties are fun. Beer is good

Yelp
HopFly changes their beer pretty regularly so I love stopping by to see what's on draft. Excited for their fall flavors in the next few weeks!

Yelp
Great, lowkey ambiance. Always nice when a bar has a ton of seating options - upstairs, outside, etc. Decent selection of brews. They always have a good rotating cast of IPAs but I would like to see some other more under-served beers on the menu from time to time. Katsu food truck is always posted up too for an easy bite.
google avatar

Mikayla R.

Yelp
Great vibes here and the sours are awesome! Definitely my favorite place to drink in Charlotte! It's great that they let you sample everything as well!
google avatar

Hannah K.

Yelp
Came here on a gorgeous Saturday afternoon, it was busy and outdoor tables were Basically full but we got lucky and one opened up right as we were walking in. We ordered two IPAs and had the best time on the upstairs patio catching up and enjoying the beer!
google avatar

Michelle S.

Yelp
Great outdoor space. Good variety of beers. Great place to tailgate for anything at B of A stadium as it's just a short walk.
google avatar

Jon G.

Yelp
Great place just outside of downtown Charlotte and walking distance to the stadium. Plentiful seating and spacious. Service was quick. No food here but you can bring outside food in.
google avatar

Jackie L.

Yelp
I LOVE HopFly. It's now one of my favorite breweries in South End. Their sours are amazing. They also have great rooftop seating with an amazing view of uptown.
google avatar

Shannon P.

Yelp
The staff here is so nice, every time, on both levels! Definitely go and sit on the rooftop which looks directly at the Panthers stadium. Their rosé is also decently inexpensive and pretty good!
google avatar

Amy D.

Yelp
Good beer, awful customer service. It's a very nice venue. Good selection but the man at the counter was a smart ass and acted like it was killing him to pour beer. If you're not happy with your job maybe you need to look elsewhere. Very arrogant. Our group left with a bad taste in our mouth.
google avatar

Bruce A.

Yelp
Hopfly is an amazing Brewery that is pumping out 2-3 beers per week! They took a stale location and transformed it into a hot spot with great beer!
google avatar

Victoria B.

Yelp
If you come before any major CLT event (soccer/football games, concerts,w/e) expect this place to be packed! They're always pumping out great music and the place is filled with beautiful plants. The beertenders are amazing and Tasha is my absolute fave!
google avatar

Melissa D.

Yelp
Very cool and laid back spot. I enjoyed my time here. The atmosphere is really chill and the bartenders were great. They made great recommendations and the service was fast. I was here during the early evening so it wasn't crowded. I'd definitely come back.
google avatar

Yelp
Great selection of beers on tap and to go in cans! Good vibe. Love the rooftop bar. Dog friendly.

H T.

Yelp
Decent beer. Cool place. The guy behind the bar was kind of a jerk when we asked for top/favorites beers (was our first time there). Then he proceeded to vape the whole time while tending bar.
