The Unusual Times

My family stopped here waiting for our flight to London. The establishment really lived up to its name “unusual times” the food was highly unusual indeed! A journey to hell for the tastebuds . The only unusual times was the waiting times and my food looked like it had been alive not 5 mins before it was served to me .the workers seem depressed to be there every day, times like these call for Google to add a 0 star option

TLDR: If you can spare the time, eat at one of the eateries BEFORE you go through security at this airport because otherwise, you'll end up like me and have to choose between two of the lowest rated restaurants to ever be considered 📝 The paper menu lists way more dishes than what they actually have to offer. Scan the QR code on the table to at least not be disappointed by the options they actually have -[BRISKET SANDWICH] Can't remember the exact price for this but it states on the online menu that it comes with a choice of fries or salad. They're fooling you as it only comes with extremely crunchy (stale?) chips. The brisket amount is a sizeable portion but tastes like the kind you get at Walmart where you just toss the plastic bag it comes in into a pot of hot water before serving... The bun also tastes like it came from Walmart as well -[WINGS] Can't recall the exact price but I mean....look at the size of those wings??? They look like they took the wings off of underdeveloped chickens :( Also, the wing sauce isn't actually even tossed onto the wings at all. Service was good though as the man tending bar was also the one who served us - he was friendly despite the fact that I'm sure he wishes he could work anywhere else but there 😅

This place should be called Worst Times. I have eaten at many airports in this world and this one by far is the worst food and service I’ve ever had. I know you may hate your job but at least give it a golden try to be polite and courteous. When the app didn’t have the selection it stated it would have I went to ask the server and I was rudely greeted with “WHAT??” As she was enjoying her chicken wings, which I might add the sauce of the said chicken wings ended up on my napkin and fork when she brought them to the table. Now let’s see if I can describe the food without vomiting in my mouth. The fries were old and hard and I thought I was going to lose multiple teeth trying to chew them. And the burger was not worth twenty bucks, it was slapped together and was barely eatable. And we ordered sprite and were brought coke. Each interaction we were polite and said thank you and were met with barely a smile. I think because they know it’s really the only option to eat food they really don’t care because who’s their competition? I think this place needs new management and staff, because it’s clearly not being run correctly. No I correct that. It’s not being run at all. I’d give negative stars if I could. DON’T EAT HERE!!! If you are flying out of B terminal then I’d give yourself extra time and eat prior to arriving. Trust me you’ll thank me for it.

They are a pack of thieves. My mom and I went here for a quick brunch awaiting a flight from Newark Airport to Ottawa. The service was lousy and the tip reflected that. After looking at my credit card bill, they doubled the tip I had originally authorized. The woman who worked with us was Carmen. I always round my tipping so the final amount is a rounded number. She was given a tip of $5.72 and she bumped it up to $10. My bill came to $52.68 and she gave herself a $10 tip. I have a copy of the receipt (always keep your receipts). This kind of scam happens all the time. I will be calling in as this is theft and fraud. Do not eat here. You get mediocre food for a huge price point.

As one of the previous reviewers pointed out, one does not go to an airport restaurant expecting a high quality food, but this place will disappoint you regardless of how low your bar is. A $22 burger that is listed with an option of fries or salad on the menu does not actually have that choice and only comes with chips. The burger itself contains a slim strip of pork not even covering the whole bun. The meat is also cold. Avoid the place and bring your own stuff or get snacks from the kiosks. At least you’ll know what to expect.

No ambience. Ordered throughout the table top app. Had to ask for table to be opened. Also at end. Bar staff returned bill as tip insufficient. It's a marked up bill in a terminal bar. The price is not fair but I'm not going to tip to reflect this. Assume staff not paid enough for them to do this.

Waited 30 mins for a chicken caesar salad, even though I had been the only person in the restaurant. Once it came out, guy said I couldn’t sit in to eat because I had ordered from the go-to QR code menu. Bruh, who cares, the restaurant is basically empty, and I didn’t know that was the go to menu, which is literally the same as the sit in menu!! Salad was sad. As others recommend, eat before you come through security.

Worst airport experience. Tiny duty-free and barely any food options. The so-called restaurant — if you can even call it that — lives up to its name, “Unusual Time”: the food took an hour to arrive, right as boarding started. The “Classic American Burger” had nothing to do with an actual burger — dry, stiff bun, and completely off. I refused it and ended up buying a sad wrap at the overpriced kiosk. Save yourself the trouble: eat before you get here!

First, let's check expectations. This place is a small hidden hard to get to book in EWR that is behind a bus transfer and security isolating B51-57 from other gates in B. Anyone here is a CAPTIVE eating audience. This restaurant was definitely overpriced but it's an airport. The QR code ordering at the table was not working but staff was friendly and accommodating. Our server was Tymil and he was nice. I had the hummus and the chicken pesto tartine. The chicken pesto tartine was actually pretty yummy but nothing special. Lots of hummus for the price considering that there are three food options in this B51-57 terminal. The staff tried keeping the area clean. I really wanted French fries but they only had chips. Super reduced menu. We were served on real, reusable, plastic dishes and with compostable plastics. I wouldn't bring a first date here but I don't regret ordering dinner here given the circumstances and captive audience of terminal, costs aside.

Not even for no cost should you come to this restaurant ( which is why I came a voucher from la Compagnie) they need to find other restaurants this one is not up to par with your business. Class ) it is over priced. The food is the worst. The presentation is the worst the server was not good. I am not a happy customer and they could care less.

Don't be like me and read the reviews AFTER sitting down. My flight was delayed like many others, so this was the only option. I saw quite a few people already seated so I thought this won't be too bad, but it was real bad. My partner and I both got the chicken tenders and at the whacked up price of 16 bucks, we got 4 small tenders and a side of overcooked chips on a paper plate. The chicken was super dry and the chips were salty. The only decent thing on that plate was the mustard and it wasn't even from them. Anyways I snuck a peak at what other people got and it was mainly beer. One lady got a Cobb salad and it looked pretty sad so don't get that either. However, the service was great.

Rude staff. Stay clear. Food was mediocre. Expensive. The server and cook is rude. Just stay clear

I wish I'd read the reviews before I sat down here. Stay away! Once you come through security you have very limited choices in terminal B. Bring food with you. If you must buy food in the airport the grab and go has far better selections than the actual sit down dining. After attempting to eat in this place I went to the grab and go and bought 2 plain hard boiled eggs for $2.49 the biggest protein boost and a bargain compared to what is available sitting down in this place. Seriously. My husband who never ever ever returns food and is always extremely respectful of restaurant wait staff, having grown up in a restaurant owned by his parents, for the first time ever, and we've been married for 38 years, told the waiter that his sandwich was completely inedible. To the waiters credit, he remade the sandwich on some fresh bread, leading you to question why he served him a sandwich on old bread. In the end the waiter was kind and the sandwich was edible, but truly that's the only good thing he could say about it. I had the cobb salad without the bacon and basically what I got was some chopped up romaine lettuce on a paper plate with a few tiny cubes of cucumber and red onion, and what amounted to approximately half a hard boiled egg, and a pouch of ranch dressing. Now here's the really really shocking part, it cost $23. Just don't.

Overcharged. There was an extra charge on my bill that they said they took off, but now it's showing up in my transactions so I'll have to go through the bank to dispute.

Seems understaffed, disheveled appearance, some tables not cleared, trash bag on floor w trash in it... one person doing it all in the front with a guy standing behind the open kitchen doorway doing nothing. I was planning on getting a cocktail but after waiting in line and looking around and noticing they serve all beverages cups in plastic I decided to save myself what would probably have cost $20 and opted out of the que.

No greeting, no warm reception no service. I am not a doctor waiter. Who continue to stand there and do nothing. Then I walked up to the bar and the bartender was bothered that I interrupted him and he told me the waiter would be over, and then the waiter came over eventually and said what do you want $14 for a dogfish head IPA

The bar name says it all. They won't have any of the beers you want on tap or in cans. It will be a challenge to get beer quickly from this sorely understaffed place. It will cost you in the neighborhood of $30 USD for 2 pints, all in. But this is your only choice in that wing of Newark, so embrace the unusual if you want a beverage before your flight.

Food- overpriced. Skimpy meat in the most expensive beef dip, served on paper plates. Cobb salad was a side salad with Caesar dressing (we had to ask for the ranch) Service- QR code did not work. Had to stand in line to order & pick up food Ambiance- old terminal, dirty tables, bussed our tables. There aren't many choices in the B terminal. Try to bring food in because it isn't worth your time or money.

I HAVE NO IDEA HOW THIS PLACE ONLY HAS 1 1/2 starts!!! they must not have had Terilynn as a waitress!!! first off i asked if the food would come out quick cause we were boating in an hour! she was friendly attentive and was HUSTLING HER ASS OFF!!! i will get back to her shortly the coffee was tasty and the sandwiches even though they are $15 each where AMAZING!!!! sausage egg and cheese on a croissant ( PORK SAUSAGE PF COURSE I AM ITALIAN) hahahahahah the give you a side of potatoe chips HOME MADE!! they taste better then CapeCod dark Rousett brand the food was great service was great and if you are in the newark Terminal B international airport YOU HAVE TO STOP

This PB&J, Diet Coke and Hershey's bar cost $33.74. No prices on anything and the guy mumbled the amount and did not give a receipt. WTAF.

Terrible food at an expensive price. Literally the only restaurant in the terminal so be sure to bring food from somewhere else prior to entering TSA. Lastly, one of the chefs who I saw in the back was also in the bathroom the same time as me. Dude didn't even wash his hands and just walked out after using the urinal. Disgusting and made me think about how unsanitary it must be in the kitchen.

They spent ten minutes arguing with each other before asking me what I wanted. I ordered a Turkey sandwich only to be told that they were only doing tenders. Grabbed a parfait from the connected grab and go. They were very quick to tell me I couldn't sit there unless I ordered from them even though the menu wasn't available. Strange strange strange customer service

Worst experience EVER!!!! Stopped here for a drink an quick bite to eat waited over 25 mins at the bar. Gentleman eventually served the people sitting next to me keep in mind they came well after I did not their fault but ok. Still remained patient he continued to walk past me eventually took my order by this time it was nearing for me to board I just ordered a drink an paid I didn't even want the food I was so turned off. It was the fact he kept Helping everyone around me just very weird to me server's name was Juber. Will never return here poor service

Unless you are famine-level hungry, just don't. The QR code order system glued to each table doesn't work, because you're not sat, you sit where you sit, so no tab is opened for you as a prerequisite, as the app eventually tells you, so you actually order with the dude at the bar. Hubs got the Turkey Avocado sandwich, which turned out to be a hamburger bun with a slice of processed Turkey, and a meh schmear of avocado. He said the tomato slice was the best part of it. I got the fried chicken wings that were drier than the Sahara on the first day of Summer, and the two pathetic celery slices they provided looked like they were cut and dried a few days ago. I've never liked to give an establishment one star, but in this case, it's well deserved. I should have just gotten a can of pringles at the grab and go next door, because I'd have actually been more satiated, and I wouldn't have spent $15 for 6 pieces of wings.

Worst food ever. Paid almost $20 for a grilled chicken sandwich. The chicken was dry and the size of a chicken nugget. Came with some stale chips. There's not much else in this airport terminal. Was better off getting some chips from the grab and go. I wish I could leave no stars.

It feels a little unfair to review this place but when airports are really making an effort to step up their food offering Unusual Times is indeed unusual - I would not recommend any of the food here. Pictured is the $10 lentil soup, in paper plate with teaspoon. It's small, which is a blessing. Lentils are near raw - almost crunchy. The toast was toasted on one side only - I suspect the toaster has been broken for a while, initially in spirit and then mechanically. I had breakfast here a couple of weeks back - egg and cheese on a toasted bagel with home fries. The bagel was not toasted, for there was no bagel - they were out. The saga of the home fries was near Tolkien in scope. I've eaten many a questionable fried potato product in my time, but these were a fork too far. I searched in vain for an edible chunk, but was meet with hard gravel like morsels, all cold as Gollum's clammy hands. Looking around at my fellow travelers I saw that not one was rising to the home fry challenge, as plate after plate was abandoned for collection. The staff were unperturbed by this universal rejection and continued to serve this gravel - I suspect they were pushing out yesterday's detritus before opening a new frozen batch. My egg and cheese patty resembled neither egg nor cheese. Glum was my breakfast that morn. I know we are a captive crowd at Gates B51 to 57 but there really is no excuse for food this bad.

I got the sausage egg and cheese sandwich with the side of potatoes and it was wonderful!! It was about 5 am when I sat down and the foos was really delicious. They had hot sauce available at the table so I was set. I mean yeah the price was a lot, that's just the way of the air. It filled up pretty quickly, man I really would come back again for another. Also the fact that they use paper plates is pretty amazing!! Thank you I won't fly hungry.

This nastiness could not be any further from the description. They literally took a bowl of frozen spinach dip, microwaved it, and charged me $13 for it. I'm going to need to wash the taste out of my mouth after this. My stomach is in for an unusual time. I also ordered the basil flatbread. That didn't even deserve a picture. The basil was absent, and they literally microwaved cheap marinara sauce sloppily topped on naan bread. Avoid this place at all costs!

The only reason I came here to eat is because my flight was delayed 3 hrs and the only other option is to eat refrigerated sandwiches. The place was packed and it took forever for a server to seat me (at a dirty table.) my server was very nice but very busy so he was unable to check in to see if I needed anything. I ordered just a cheese pizza and it was nasty. It was burnt and tasted like it was frozen pizza because the crust was soggy. I would not come back to this restaurant. Food and service sucked. The only reason I'm giving a 2 is because there's a good drinking menu and my server was nice.

This might be the worst possible restaurant I've even been to. Waiter calls everyone "bro." It took over an hour to get my food which was just a Caesar salad and chicken fingers. Waiter comes out calling out the room because he has no idea who ordered what. He blatantly forgot about multiple peoples food.

Basically what you would expect for airport food. Edible, but not good food. Reasonably quick for slapping two pieces of bread on sandwich meat. The one good thing is that it's right next to the Porter Airlines gate so you can keep an eye on your boarding progress.

No. Just no. Before you pass through security, there's a food court on your right. Go there instead. You can thank me later. We unfortunately ate here when we had a flight leaving from one of the nearby gates and there were only 2 places past security and this one looked faster. The food was subpar and the service was atrocious. My BLT was practically smashed and one of the worst I've ever had. We sat down and we're ignored for a while before getting help. The waitress had trouble communicating with us; she started off telling us about half their stuff they were out of, then when we picked something else, they were out of that too. She encouraged us to order one thing, then when we did they were out of that too. At one point she even asked my wife if she had read the menu. Yes, she did. She had more than enough time to read it, given the bad service. So yeah. There's nothing good to say about this place. If you are stuck past security, do yourself a favor and go to the Belgian place just after the checkpoint instead.

For a restaurant bar in an airport, this place is OK. Had a grilled chicken sandwich with mozzarella, roasted red peppers and balsamic dressing. Darn tasty. Potato chips were a teeny bit stale-ish but still good Prices are a little high but for an airport it's expected

Eat pre-security. Limited menu and the staff was not attentive at all. Not surprisingly they were looking for someone that decided to leave without paying. They were horrible at helping customers and following up with them. Everything served in plastic!

Boy oh boy where do I start... I was about to go to Jamaica when I saw "the unusual times" catching my eye. There was nothing else so I thought "might as well try it!" I sat down and waited 10 minutes to be served. After I got served I got the 17.99 continental breakfast, it looked worse than hospital food. I wouldn't even feed that to my dog. After about 10 minutes after takeoff, I started to feel a bubbling compulsion in my stomach. It was the 17.99 continental breakfast. Let me just say, after the plane ride, the whole plane smelled like the 17.99 continental breakfast. Z za

The food was complete shit.. I ordered the grilled salmon and it had absolutely no flavor... Literally looked and tasted like it just sat on the grill for a few seconds before being put on the cardboard plate....Which is expected of airport food but for 22$ I expected at least some thing I would not call an autrosity. Fortunately for them I refuse to waste food so I did not send it back... Lots of salt and lemon and that did not save it...

$16 "The unusual cobb", a very sad salad with a kraft dressing packet on the side. It's unfortunately one of the only restraunts in terminal B EWR.

Unusual times: for being open that is. Picture it: it's 11:30 pm, everyone's waiting for their late night flight, you roll up to your gate hopeful for a preflight bev. Sorry, bar closed. Umm, what? You've got five gates in a semicircle around you all ready to board late night flights 12-1 am and you are closed? You don't have to serve food but serve a drink at least! I read an article once about airport deliveries and how all these restaurants in terminals had to schedule deliveries and get workers in and out, but I am sorry, all of you airports can do better. What is the point of an in terminal bar/restaurant if you can't be open til last flight? Figure it out and be open whenever flights are departing. If we can be here for a flight I am 100% sure you can figure out a way to take our money.

Quick in and out before your flight. Service was fast on my visit here before a flight. I see other reviews took issue with service, though, this wasn't a problem for me. In and out within 20 minutes. Sandwiches run $11-15 or so. Some come with kettle chips. There are plenty of other heartier options as well. Some veggie options as well. Veggie Burger sounded tasty. No complaints. Staff was friendly.

Not sure if service is horrible or if they're just very understaffed... Either way, the food is just okay but it'll take you over 30 minutes to order and get food. If you're able to sit at a table or the bar, you're very lucky. I got the turkey avocado sandwich. It was cold and nothing really special, but I wanted something to eat before my flight.

The folks who work here are great. The food is mostly inedible. Yet super expensive, as if you were out for fine dining. I got the grilled chicken salad. The chicken was okay - although cold and dry. The salad tasted a few days old. Not sure if it would have stayed down or not. I didn't risk it. Bottom line, don't eat here. Ever.

This place was so bad it makes me either want to laugh or cry. I ordered the smoked salmon app - smoked salmon, rye bread, cream cheese, tomatoes, onions and capers. Served on a paper plate, it was not in the least appetizing; and it was like $18. I was in actual disbelief when they served it to me. The service was terrible too. I was in a meeting on my computer so I wasn't very chatty myself, but I watched the server, and he would literally just plop plates down and walk away immediately. I don't think he ever smiled. Never again. It is too bad that this is basically the only sit down place in this corridor.

I gave this place two stars because my drink was ok. My breakfast sandwich tasted like a microwaveable Jimmy Dean sandwich. It was overpriced and not worth $15.

Ultimate garbage experience. Food is horrible - you get paper eggs, can beans that are cold / luke warm at best. Coffee comes in a glass cup that is obviously for cocktails. Food aside, the server working here is horrid. Looks like a goon and acts like one too. I came here with 2 young ones (2 & 5) - asked for some croissant because I saw it on another breakfast item. He goes - we don't sell croissant individually. Obviously, I gave him the most puzzling and pissed off look, and since then - he starts literally throwing our orders on the table. Forget about the crap food and horrible service. Oh and btw, breakfast is $15. See photos.

Absolutely HORRIBLE !!!!! You get a better sandwich in jail. No salad dressing for salad, the guy came back with a small cup of vinegar from the back and pack of honey mustard " I hope that works " . The meat was questionable if it was even chicken. Keep in mind the salad and sandwich are 18 bucks. Just buy a bag of chips and cookies !

This place is a little racist! I said the R word. I stopped by for breakfast and sat myself down. The server didn't show up for 20 minutes to take my order then he hands me a menu. He hovers over my shoulder while I am looking at the menu then tells me that I can't eat here! I was pissed! How can he even say that to a paying customer! The waiter had no problem with white people spending 20 minutes looking at the menu (unsupervised). I will never come here again! (No amount of free stuff or coupons will help). I am still uphauled at this businesses attitude towards minorities! I wonder how they ever got their license to operate at this airport! The food is expensive and I didn't get to try any so I'll have to assume that it's as bad as the other Yelp reviewers!

Worst service ever! Soviet should tell their boss to hire more people. Just 2 people for al tables? Really! These people are trying to work as much as hard they can but this is not enough. Hey bad ass boss! Hire more people!

Mac and cheese might as well be kraft easy mac. Had to send back the Doble Rita Brevard it tasted like a cheap premixed drink. Chicken tenders were decent but the breading to chicken ratio was too high. The curry mayo was the saving grace. My husband enjoyed his turkey club and chicken wings. All sauces are served on the side FYI.

Atrocious. Most painful tip I've ever left. Potatoes are not meant to make a sound - I could have used them in a moracca. NO NO. Just get a bag of chips next door. 60 bucks for two bloody Mary's and a microwaved egg sandwich. Thanks, Jersey.

Come on airport restaurant... you have to understand by now the flux of international travels at peak times that you are well prepared. Today we hung out here for two hours, had two lovely waitresses(didn't know which was ours) and then couldn't order our last round for a long time because the two waitresses were slammed and management was busy getting pictures of the free snacks to bring more people in. The large Stella ($10) and Floradora($13) were great. And the chicken tenders were very doable. Note to management: understand your workers need help during these 45 minute rushes.

Sign says open at 5 it's 615 and the crew is sitting drinking coffee and not letting anyone inside.

This place was pretty good considered it was the only place in the waiting area that we were at. ::Ambience:: You will meet a lot of travelers here for sure, especially if you sit at the big table in the back. ::Food:: We ordered a Banger Sandwich and a beef stew. Both of them were pretty good. Love the homemade chips that came with the sandwich. The portion was pretty small though. Not enough beer selections. And they ran out of Stella. ::Service:: It was average. The staff could use some more smile. ::Fun Fact:: We sat there for about 1 hour to wait for our flight and met two groups of couples. It was very cool. If there has no other choice, I would recommand this place. You can grab a beer and some snacks to kill some time.

My credit card was used here fraudulently. The merchant entered my card numerous times and ultimately hand entered the number two weeks after I passed through the airport. Sketch people working here

Ok, so you know if you're at the airport, it's gonna be pricey, but these guys: $10 for a beer and $15 for a sliced bread sandwich. I'd call the sandwich unremarkable, except, if you order a Turkey Avocado sandwich that costs $15: DO.YOU.EXPECT.AVOCADO? I looked at the sandwich from the side: where's the avocado? I opened it up and flipped through: where's the avocado? I then peeled a slice of turkey off the bread...and see a greenish disturbance in the interior surface of the bread. Again, it's one thing to pay through the nose for a sandwich. It's another to essentially be mislead. I asked the waiter about it and he shrugged. This place is probably able to make a single avocado last all weekend.

I don't understand how a restaurant can be this bad. I feel badly for the kind staff who have to serve this awful fare. They are the only saving grace of this awful restaurant. AVOID!! Get food before you come through security!!!
