"The Uptown Garrison is like that friend who’s an eagle scout - life’s just easier when he’s around. In the case of your friend, that’s because he knows how to open wine bottles with a shoe, and in the case of this all-day bar a block from the A-train in Washington Heights, it’s because it works for just about every dining situation imaginable. It opens at 7am everyday and is a good option for breakfast and lunch meetings, and at night, it turns into a dark, constantly packed cocktail bar. From the perfectly crispy fried chicken coated in chili honey to the burger with raclette that’s served on a milk bun, the food here is more interesting than whatever bar you went to that time you broke your corkscrew at home. Granted, that wouldn’t have been an issue if your eagle scout friend was around. Food Rundown Buttermilk Fried Chicken In case you’re the type of person who asks why sunsets are lovely or Shakira is an icon, then we’ll explain why you should order this perfectly cooked buttermilk fried chicken. The crispy skin doesn’t crumble or peel away when you cut into the juicy meat, and it’s coated in slightly sweet chili honey and black pepper. photo credit: Noah Devereaux The Garrison Burger With raclette, confit onions, and sauce, this burger sounds like a more effective sleep aid than chamomile tea and a Mr. Rogers marathon. But the toppings are well portioned, the lightly charred patty isn’t huge, and the housemade milk bun is so light that you’ll barely notice it. Pizzas The brick-oven pizzas here have thin, charred crusts with more air pockets than your phone when you put on the screen protector yourself. The toppings, like pepperoni and pickled peppers or porcini cream and wood roasted mushrooms, are very good, but they’re also very heavy, so get one for the table and share it." - Matt Tervooren
"The Uptown Garrison in Washington Heights works just as well for cocktails on a Friday night as it does for an 8am coffee date when you don’t feel like committing the good hours of the day to someone you don’t know. This spot, a block from the A-train at 181st Street, serves coffee and sandwiches during the day, and then turns into a dark, constantly-packed cocktail bar with very good pizzas and bar food at night." - team infatuation

"You could feasibly order breakfast, lunch, and dinner from The Uptown Garrison in Washington Heights. (We were thinking maybe chicken and waffles for breakfast, a chopped salad for lunch, and a meatball melt for dinner.) Once you decide what you want, call 917-261-4680, or find them online." - team infatuation
"The Uptown Garrison works for pretty much every dining situation. We say “pretty much” so you don’t complain to us after showing up to this all-day spot in Washington Heights looking for a white tablecloth restaurant to celebrate an anniversary or a divorce. But from breakfast on your way to work or fried chicken with a group to cocktails and pizza with a date, this restaurant and bar a block from the 181st Street A train is one of the most useful places to know about uptown." - hannah albertine, matt tervooren
