"How did it strike you on arrival?A slick, fashionable Soho House-type of a hotel in Cambridge. What's not to love? Varsity oozes modern cool in an otherwise archaic city. What’s the crowd like? It's all Champagne Socialists here. No really! The gorgeous rooftop bar is full of smartly dressed types drinking fizz and G&Ts and gazing out over the spires and rooftops of Cambridge. The good stuff: Tell us about the rooms. They're modern, clean and light filled. The Graduate Room is a basic double and it's pretty decent overall. The Senior Fellow room I was in is bigger and brighter, with patterned wallpaper behind a King sized wooden bed, and fabulous tablet with free newspapers and magazines loaded up on it. There's plenty of wardrobe space and a decent mini-bar. Plus the bedside lighting is perfect for reading. We’re craving some deep, restorative sleep. They got us?No complaints about the bed—bouncy, and lots of soft pillows to throw around. How about the little things, like mini bar, or shower goodies. Any of that worth a mention?Complimentary bottled water and strong in room Wi-Fi are always winners, and the funky jars of jellybeans and cashews tell me that I am in the right hotel. I eat all of them and buzz down for replacements. The LCD TV is also in just the right position to watch from bed, and they'll give you DVDs if you need them. Please tell us the bathroom won’t let us down. One of the best hotel bathrooms I've used at this price range—there's underfloor heating, the walk-in monsoon shower is surrounded by perfect bevelled edge black tiles and the products are by Elemis, who manage the spa downstairs and to which guests get free entry. Room service: Anything worth ordering? The room service menu is unfussy, comfort food. Think cheeseburgers that will fill you up after a night at the pub. Under a tenner was worth it. Any other tips?Book a window table at the main hotel restaurant Six so you can eat with a view. Hang out on the grassy rooftop and drink. Spend some time in the Elemis spa especially in the starry jacuzzi room which looks onto the River Cam. Bottom line: worth it, and why? It's the perfect boutique Cambridge hotel and hard to fault—definitely the rooftop bar is a winner." - Ramsay Short

I booked the hotel to celebrate my nephew’s upcoming birthday with him. Excellent customer service from the point of booking onwards, they provided a small cake and card in my nephew’s room. We both got upgraded and really loved our rooms! We had cocktails on the roof terrace - just perfect. Then dinner at Six, good food and more cocktails! Helpful friendly staff. I’ve already recommended the Varsity to all my friends!

We were lucky enough to be given a complimentary upgrade and our room was just incredible. A very short but wonderful stay at this hotel that has kind and helpful staff who were always willing and available to assist. There is a roof top bar and beautiful restaurant with views over Cambridge. Wouldn’t hesitate to return or recommend

What a stunning view of Cambridge from the rooftop bar. My friend who completed the booking thought he'd booked the rooftop bar but accidentally booked a table in Six the restaurant... we were later advised when we arrived that the rooftop bar does not take bookings so don't waste time looking to make one on the website. There's lots of seating/tables although it was fairly busy when we went. Lots of cocktails to choose from. Enjoy!

My husband and I have visited Cambridge regularly over the last 10 years. This time April 2025, we decided to stay in a hotel rather than an Airbnb. |When we arrived at the Varsity Hotel, we were warmly greeted and then informed that our room would be upgraded.||The room size was good, comfortable, and the items provided were well-shocked. |From the start to the end of our stay, it was relaxing. We spent time in the restaurants in the hotel. They have a lovely roof terrace that opens during the spring and summer. You can have a drink or order a meal there, which we did.||The Spa and gym were a big plus, I went to the Yoga classes each day, and although I did not use the spa. I plan to do so on my next visit.||The hotel is in the central town of Cambridge and is near Jesus Park, local shops, and restaurants.||Overall, we had a lovely, relaxing time at the Varsity Hotel.

I've been traveling to Cambridge for work for the last 10+ years and have stayed in many of the hotels in the city. But I keep coming back to The Varsity. It is such a gem! The perfect combination of exceptional service, location, comfortable accommodations and value. And I love the restaurant! After a busy day, if I just feel like room service or relaxing on the roof top bar, I know I will have delicious and easy options. This is my go-to hotel in Cambridge!

Beautiful boutique hotel, right in the center of Cambridge. I have stayed there twice now and will be staying again. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. The food in their restaurant is exceptional. I would go so far as to say, this is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed, and can't wait to go back.

The Varsity is a medium-sized hotel located very centrally within Cambridge. Although it's basically a modern building, the constraints of the plot have led to some interesting shapes which have given it rather more character than many. It runs to 6 storeys plus a rooftop terrace, and its main restaurant, on the 6th, has glass windows and some very pleasant views over the city.|We were very lucky to be given a room on the 5th floor, one of only 3 rooms with a balcony, and a very spacious one at that, so on a pleasant Summer's day we enjoyed sitting outside on the sofa. The room itself was a decent size, modern in style and in good condition, and the bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was decently spacious, but if I'm really picky I'd say it was a little short of shelf space.|Breakfast, on the 6th floor, met the standards for a 4* hotel, though it didn't surpass them - except in that lovely view. There is also a steakhouse restaurant and a spa, but we didn't have the chance to try either.|Staff were friendly and very helpful, and it felt as though service was coming from real people, rather than from a corporate machine, however efficient.|One important final point. Cambridge is, deliberately and probably rightly, not a very car-friendly city. So we were delighted to be able to bring our car to the door of the hotel, unload, and hand it over to an efficient valet parking service. The location coupled with valet parking would put this hotel very high on our list on a return visit.

We stayed here for our wedding weekend and couldn’t recommend it enough. We had guests from out of town come on the Friday and were able to have drinks on the roof terrace which was a total wow moment. ||On the day, there were lots of people coming and going from the room, it was busy and the staff were so friendly and accommodating. They brought extra glasses, mugs, brought a water bowl for my dog, showed everyone where to go and even brought some champagne to celebrate. When we arrived back in the evening, the room was clean (it had resembled a bomb site before) and there was a thoughtful piece of cake saying congratulations. ||The pictures speak for themselves. It was a STUNNING hotel to get ready in and we are so thankful we could stay. ||Thank you so much for looking after us so well.
