Where To Go For A Third Date In London

"We don’t have the scientific knowledge to tell you why being underground is so sexy. But it is. Enter The Vault. Hidden behind a bookcase at the back of Milroy’s whisky shop in Soho, this sophisticated speakeasy feels a lot more ooh-la-la than your average cocktail bar. Their bistro-esque, circular tables for two are perfect for swapping stories by candlelight but at the risk of ‘we couldn’t get in’ being the headline of the night, book ahead. " - heidi lauth beasley

17 London Bars You Can Book For Your Birthday

"The idea of being trapped in a vault with a bunch of different friends that haven’t met before and your sister’s Hinge date might sound like a bit of a birthday nightmare. But trust us, The Vault is a great little cocktail bar on Greek Street that’s hidden behind a bookcase at Milroy’s whisky shop. Expect lots of oak panelling, coves to sit in, and an old-school piano that’s a great distraction for when your school mate and work friend start squabbling. It’s a small space so the biggest booking available is for eight people. " - heidi lauth beasley, jake missing, sinead cranna

The Best Bars In Soho - London - The Infatuation

"A basement bar hidden behind a bookcase inside an old-school whisky shop? Soho really has thought of everything. A cosy little downstairs space with coves, big leather sofas, and guys with beards having intense conversations about single malts, The Vault is a good bar. And it's definitely worth dragging the one dissenter in your group here, even if they complain loudly that they ‘just wanted a vodka red bull’. As well as a good selection of whisky, from bourbons to Japanese varieties, there’s also a coconut butter old fashioned that will set the mood for a PDA-fuelled date night. " - David Paw, Heidi Lauth Beasley

The First Timer’s Guide To Drinking In London - London - The Infatuation

"To get to this bar in Soho you have to go through a bookcase hidden at the back of a quaint whisky shop called Milroy’s. So yeah, you could say it’s pretty much a C.S. Lewis novel, except if you see any lions it’ll be because you’ve had one too many of their coconut butter old fashioneds. This spot is a proper little charmer with plenty of classic, and creative, cocktails to try, and lots of dark wooden seating and cosy corners to chat in." - Heidi Lauth Beasley, Jake Oliver

I didn’t even know this place existed. The Vault is in the basement of Millroy’s of Soho. It is behind the bookcase once you go down the stairs. It’s a whole new world. It’s atmospherically lit and the bartender was excellent. My date didn’t know what he wanted to drink so he was asked what he types of drinks he liked and they made him up something which he really liked. I had a coconut butter old fashioned and it was delicious. We went on a Monday night and it wasn’t very busy and that’s the way I like places.

Google
Super cool spot with killer cocktails. Also under a bottle shop. Great service and although they have lots of options on menu they easily go off book.

Google
Great little hide away for a cocktail! Nice selection of cocktails and service was great. Nice place for a late night drink

Google
A hidden speakeasy bar behind a bookshelf, super creatively designed and worth a visit. Prices are not cheep, but they also have beers if you are not into cocktails. I actually took a Swiss lager which was actually one of the best lagers I have ever had so I am certain they had great cocktails too. The barman was super chill and direct taken good care of all the guests. If you always wanted to try something mysterious, this is a good start.

The experience was undoubtedly cool. The hidden bookcase, the staff were friendly and the ambiance was good, if a bit loud. However the main show, the drinks, were bad. For £16 (includes a default 15% tip) a drink you'd expect at least some garnish or an incredible flavour. Both of our drinks was completely mediocre. It's a shame, all pomp and no substance.

Unlike a lot of novelty London bars, The Vault can walk and chew gum. Both the experience and the drinks are top-class without compromising one for the other. The service is unimpeachable and the staff are very knowledgable and friendly. I was very excited for this place to reopen after being closed for so long. I give it four stars because I think the renovation was sadly a minor downgrade. The decor is less cohesive than it was and I don’t understand why they would swap black paint for an odd shade of purple - it subtracts from the room’s apparent depth. It is also more brightly lit than I remember, which further worsens the effect. The drinks, while absolutely delicious, are expensive for the quantities. Still, these are minor nitpicks. It remains a great place for a great cocktail and I highly recommend going at least once for the experience alone.

Google
This is a bar that’s actually at the back of a street side proper bar located behind a floor to ceiling bookcase you walk through and then go downstairs to get to a secret bar. Our party of two were the first to arrive that evening, we had been looking for a pre-dinner drinks. They had some very interesting drinks on the menu and their olives as an appetizer were so good. Drinks were a little on the expensive side, but they were good and the bartenders very attentive. 4 drinks and olives £63 or $83 American. Fun place.

Google
What a great place to enjoy some delicious whiskey. They will take the time to find you the perfect drink and if you're not familiar with the world of whiskey, you'll get some educated conversations out of the bartenders. Prices are fine and the atmosphere is excellent! Don't forget to check out the speak easy in the basement.

Yelp
Snuck in without a reservation and thoroughly enjoyed sitting at the bar! The bartenders provided fun banter and recommendations. Ambiance is loud and chaotic, but still good for a date. Cocktails are excellent. Of course, the most fun part of all is walking in through the "secret" bookshelf. Overall, one of the best cocktail experiences in London.

Yelp
Best fish & chips ever. Laidback atmosphere and excellent ambiance sitting on Tower Bridge and seeing the Tower of London. I would definitely return and recommend this place.

Yelp
Cam sneak in without a reservation but it does have limited seating! Fun to find :) Love the cocktails. Service was excellent. Clean and friendly. I did bring my mom quite late at night & I don't think I'd do that again. Young ppl scene fosho

Yelp
We had a little trouble getting into the vault only because we were embarrassed to walk through the bar to get to the bookcase. Also the bookcase is super heavy so we thought maybe it was closed but it turns out we just weren't putting enough strength into opening it. Once we got in and downstairs we sat at the bar and tried a number of the drinks on the menu and they were all super delicious. It was a little intimidating because a lot of the ingredients were unfamiliar to me but I chatted with the bartender and asked his opinion and just trusted him to make some thing delicious and he did. I really liked the buttered old-fashioned it was super comforting and as someone who's not a big brown liquor fan it was actually delightful

Yelp
This is a speakeasy bar located inside Milroy's - London's oldest whiskey shop - offers whiskey and whiskey only. They have bookshelves full of old books at the back, and one of those bookshelves is actually a secret door, to a whole new world below. There is a tiny little sign by the bookshelf that says "The Vault." The candles and barrels, antique-looking furnishings, and cave or bunker-feel space...romantic, attractive, and welcoming ambiance. It seemed like a really popular bar, we saw people coming downstairs, only to be turned around with sad faces. If you want to make sure you get a seat, then reservation is highly recommended. As for cocktails, since they are in the basement of whiskey shop, whiskey takes the main stage. They also offer all sorts of cocktails that are non-whiskey. We asked our server for some recommendation, and he gave us really good ones! We each ordered different kind of cocktails. They were tasty, strong, and high quality. We enjoyed our drinks for sure! We had a really nice time there, the staffs were amazing with loads of knowledge when it came to drinks. I understand the reason why they are so popular... If you are interested in visiting this spot, make sure to get a reservation beforehand!

Yelp
We had the best Old Fashioned ever (infused with coconut) and enjoyed this fun speakeasy. You go through Millroy's bar to the back and open the bookcase to descend dark stairs to find this intimate little bar in the basement. Made for a fun date night.

Yelp
The decor and ambiance downstairs were fantastic. Jus the kind of vibe for a hidden bar and it was a delight. The live jazz on Monday night was fantastic as well... perfect soundscape for the bar and such talent. I also noticed it was perfect volume so you could still cary on a conversation if you wanted or you could focus on just listening to the music. Loved the secret entrance through the bookcase in back. Didn't think the bar tender in front needed to offer help before I asked- I think he could have given it a bit more time to add to the allure of the mystery. Still great though The drinks were creative and yummy and you could tell the bar tenders took pride in their work. To take it to 5 stars I think they could level up the cocktails even more with more nuanced and precise flavors... but I'm certainly being a harsh critic- it was great

Yelp
Was in London for a week in February around Valentine's Day with my family. My wife and I snuck out for part of an evening. We made sure to MAKE RESERVATIONS. I mean, it was packed and folks were getting turned around. Anyhoo, there's a nice whisky shop upstairs that I wish I had made more time for. Ahhh, next time. Once you push open the bookshelf and descend the dark stairs, it's a lively place! The night that we went was rather loud but the atmosphere was awesome. We could hear each other talking most of the time. The waiter came around and seemed exceptionally knowledgeable about his job (I can't imagine a guy working in a "secret" underground whisky bar would be any other way....). Your reservations are for a set amount of time (1.5 hours I think...?). Managed to fit way too many drinks in that period. The drink menu was small and cozy. I just got straight whiskies all night and was in heaven. We'll be back as soon as my headache goes away.

Yelp
My first stop on my euro vacation. This is a fine place to order a whiskey cocktail. You enter through another bar and find your entrance to The Vault through a hidden door in the back. It was most satisfying. I tried the coconut butter Old Fashion which was perfectly balanced( not overly sweet but enough coconut for a great finish) The vibe was lively there was Incense burning which paired with the moody esthetic. The waiter was friendly and recommended other places in London to visit. A must visit.

Yelp
Bar staff was incredibly rude and pushy. Drinks tasted awful. We were in town for a week for our first london trip and had this place on our list. We were super excited and really disappointed.

Yelp
Cool vibe downstairs and had no problem getting seated despite going on a Thursday night as a walk-in. I suspect Friday night would've been far tougher to get a seat. The staff were super friendly as we each had two cocktails apiece. I enjoy whiskey-based, boozy cocktails but found the menu a bit lacking in that space. The first option was a unique twist on an old fashioned as it had some coconut to it which was ok, but the coconut did not mix well with the old fashioned flavour. The second time they brought out manhattan, which I found a bit disappointing. I also found that the price was a bit steep for the drinks, but I suppose that's also a product of the neighborhood. So it goes I guess. May try again

Yelp
This was a really cool, speakeasy/bar. They have a huge barrel in the back for medium sized groups. I won't point out any drinks in particular, but every one we tried from the menu was very good and fairly unique. The staff here is excellent, very accommodating, very friendly. Even offered suggestions for other bars to try in the area. Definitely recommend visiting here.

Yelp
Super cool bar, accessible through the bookcase door and down the stairs. Cocktails were superb and the vibe is awesome and chill. Loved it!

Yelp
One of the best bars we've been to in London where the service matches the drinks. We walked into Milroy's where a crowd had assembled to do a whiskey tasting. We finally found someone to take us through a secret spot into the basement where the Vault is located. We had reservations but they also take walk-ins though it was packed by 7pm on a Thursday evening. We ordered one drink off the menu and then just asked for a bartender choice using bourbon. I highly recommend this bar for the drinks and for friendliness and efficiency of their staff.

Yelp
Expensive but different and interesting. Probably pretty good for a first date. Make sure you have a reservation.

Yelp
Visited the Vault last December when we were in London. Had some delicious cocktails. The ambiance is very cozy and intimate. Bartenders were nice and attentive. We did make reservations in advance. We also spent a great deal of time in the whisky bar above stairs. Tasted some great whisky. Would definitely visit again.

Yelp
The Vault is one of the best speakeasies I have been to. The staff are amazing!! The menu is unique and the bartenders are great. Chris is great. My favorite drink is the coconut old fashioned. The Vault is a must visit if you like speakeasies and unique drinks.
