Yelp
First, this is a genuinely wonderful new restaurant in the Tuscaloosa area. If you're looking for a new place to try, whether or not you're Vegan, this is a great choice.
We came in on their soft opening last week. First big positive is that all table numbers have a QR code you can scan and order directly from your phone. Then they'll bring everything out to your table. Really neat and tidy as an ordering system, and wonderfully fast and convenient.
Food was really on point, and very generous portion sizes. My partner and I shared the "Beyond Beef" sliders and street corn dip. The sliders were nearly the size of a regular burger, in my humble opinion, and deliciously prepared. From the QR menu function you can order any number of toppings, including a homemade aioli (which I highly recommend) and pickled red onions. It was so much food we had to bring some of the corn dip home (and it became a wonderful side dish to dinner).
The owner came out and checked on us, told us a bit about the story of the shop and their own path to vegan(ish) food. It was a meaningful and poignant conversation, and we felt appreciated and welcomed as if we were part of the family. We also enjoyed each item, and made that fundamental point emphatically.
David Chang once said that if you want to support local restaurants, you should have 3-5 you get to know, explore the menu on, and patron regularly. And whichever the last is on that list, you should switch it out in favor of trying at least one new place now and then.
If you're looking to add your new place this week, might I recommend the Veganish Market? Good food made by even better people. Perhaps it will even become one of your 3-5 go-to places in Tuscaloosa?
Wouldn't that be something?
