The Vermont Country Deli

Had the Lemon Cake, Eclair, Carrot Cake and Keylime Tart. The Lemon Cake and Eclair were a big disappointment and unfortunately, this is my experience every time I go in the VCD. The chefs do a great job at presenting each item, though the cakes/desserts always lack flavor, depth and balance. The lemon cake was dense and had very little lemon flavor, and what flavors it did have didn't go well together... It needed much more acidity and flavor. The eclair wasn't fresh and the pate a choux was very, very soft and again, it lacked flavor. The carrot cake and Keylime pie were 3 out of 5 stars at best, and I'm being very generous. I've been a professional baker for over 30 years now and I always leave honest reviews. I will say that if I'm paying $6-$8 for a piece of cake outside of a city, I expect to get high-quality products. I think the VCD should take a closer look into their recipes and make adjustments where needed. I see that with much kindness and respect. Service has always been great and the atmosphere is nice, though pretty busy area with very limited parking. Very often, I choose not to go to the VCD because of the parking situation and quality of products. Thank you

Having seen a popular TikTok video about their renowned Mac and Cheese, we felt compelled to give it a try. While it may not have been freshly made, the cheese unfortunately lacked the expected creaminess or stringiness. However, the slightly burnt edges were quite enjoyable. Their baked goods, on the other hand, were cooked to absolute perfection; the chocolate bomb and tiramisu were simply divine, melting in the mouth with every bite.

Wonder find on my New England Road Trip. My goal was to hit 4 states I have never been while on a trip to Boston. Rented a car and drove up and over. I was finding a hard time finding something that was truly interesting but I knew I wanted to eat and 5th in the list I found on line of things to see was this shop and deli! It’s two spots and both are simple and quaint and embodied the parts of Vermont that are purely good old fashioned quality and service! The ladies at the market were welcoming and helpful. The folks in the deli making and serving the to-go only food (they have some seating indoor and out to enjoy it but it will all come ready to go) were pleasant and friendly. Not the fastest but it was clear that was because of the care they took to make great sandwiches and ensure quality so I wasn’t mad at the wait at all. The sandwich I got was huge and the ingredients tasted very fresh and local, which, if I am correct it all is! I am very happy I stopped and would highly recommend a lunch here if you are near!

If you want a calm countryside lunch experience in Vermont this ain’t it. The lines were long and hectic, there was two lines one for hot foods like Mac and cheese and pulled pork and another line for cold cut sandwiches. We got in the sandwich line and had regret when we got closer to see the Mac and cheese and BBQ meats. The actual sandwiches were pretty good, just not great enough to justify a two hour pit stop for food. I got a sandwich called the Traffic Jam and that was just what this experience is, a complete traffic jam.

Everything we ordered was delicious and fresh. Mac and cheese exceptional, sandwiches were fresh, baked goods were yummy. Service was great, too.

Came from New Mexico solely to try to baked mac and cheese, and holy moley was it worth the flights. The Thai pork shank was also delicious. Beautiful shop, the amount of maple syrups to choose from were fantastic. The coffee shop/gift store next door was cute too. Parking was easy before lunchtime.

So many delicious looking food choices. It was a little overwhelming! Service was super friendly and helpful. We tried a little bit of everything: Maple BBQ,, famous mac and cheese, citrus beet salad, orange chicken and sesame noodles, and of course we had to get some of their sourdough and delicious cookies. They even sliced the sourdough for us. Everything we got was super tasty! Even the things we warmed up for leftovers the next day. Highly recommend stopping here if you're traveling through. They have something for everyone and even syrups, desserts, and dressings to take as gifts.

Vermont Country Deli is a must-try! I devoured the mac and cheese, chicken burrito, and kale salad - all were ridiculously delicious. My only gripe is the location; wish it were closer so I could visit more often! Parking can be a challenge, especially when it's busy, but the line moves quickly. Worth the trip, hands down!

New year, new review. Popped in after a morning of skiing New Year's Day and place was packed for lunch! I didn't mind as I was in no rush. As I waited in line I enjoyed conversations with both the people in front and behind me whom all have never been before. The joy and excitement on their faces as they made their way to order was priceless. As for myself, a small mac to help start the new year strong for total lbs sold (81k in 2024) and a small pulled pork. Wanted to order some other things but my refrigerator is full at home, so another time. If this will be your first time, just be aware of parking could be very busy as there's not much. Both ways before pull out of parking spaces as well. Main road can be a cluster at times. I also recommend getting lots of little things rather than a little of a lot. You can always come back for more!

A local had suggested this spot as a favorite roadtrip stop, and it is now my new favorite too! Limited parking and togo lines were long, but service was quick. There are 2 lines - deli and sandwiches. Great selection of Vermont-made snacks, drinks, and souvenirs as well. I ordered: - Macaroni and cheese ($4.29 per 1/2 lb) made with Vermont's Cabot cheddar cheese - very creamy, cheesy, and had a perfect texture. - Maple BBQ Pulled Pork ($5.99 per 1/2 lb) - very juicy and moist - Turkey Sandwich - had this the next day and it was still tasty. Not dry at all. All were very flavorful and delicious! Highly recommend visiting ~ I can't wait to be back :)

Dare I say a roadside hidden gem... However, it's not so hidden anymore! This place blew up on social media and for good reason! They have the BEST mac n cheese ever, especially for a small deli! It's so creamy, cheesy, and seasoned perfectly. It is also the perfect texture. They also have a plethora of fun and beautiful desserts, pasta salads, asian/hispanic food, and soups. I recommend their BBQ pulled pork with their mac n cheese, so delicious! Their chili was a little too sweet for my liking but if you like BBQ I recommend. Beware, there is normally a line everytime we come. It's a cute market. They also have souvenirs and a bunch of local Vermont goodies. Note: they have a parking lot

Such a charming spot; the perfect place for weary travelers to refresh themselves. Just be aware that there's probably going to be a line. Actually, when we went the line wrapped around inside the store and out the front door like a ride at Disney. We waited close to 25 minutes before we made it to the Deli counter, but that mac n cheese was worth it, and that super salad made with the vegan vinaigrette was sooo good! I almost ate the whole container in one sitting. We also bought some of that Miller Farm maple milk and I've been using that as coffee creamer since its so rich and creamy. Of course we bought Vermont cheese as well, and some desserts to eat later. If you want legit coffee and not from the machine, you have to walk over to the other building and there's a barista there making coffee and they also have all kinds of souvenirs for you to take with you as well as a clean rest room. The area around this country deli is so beautiful, you'd be happy just to find a nice bench and enjoy your food. I took pictures of the surrounding area to give you an idea. They say that part of the adventure is the journey along the way and this is definitely a stop you'd want to experience.

**November 2025: Tuesday Afternoon Visit** A local Vermont woman recommended this spot and said that the mac and cheese was to die for so naturally my friend and I were curious to see if it was true. I'm here to confirm that yes the mac and cheese here is heavenly and definitely worth a visit. Parking: It sucks, but somehow a car pulled out and we were able to take one of the coveted spots. Hallelujah! Deli: When you enter you'll probably be overwhelmed by the amount of baked goods, canned goods, and misc souvenirs. There were a lot of great Vermont made items and I grabbed a basketful of cookies, maple everything, and I didn't even make it to the deli yet - lol. Eventually I made it to the deli and while a lot of mac and cheese was gone, there was enough for two medium size containers for my friend and I to enjoy. I also ordered a small chili (the soup of the day) and a small kale salad as well. As I was about to pay I decided to also get a whole double dutch apple pie. I think I spent like $100 bucks (total on souvenirs and food), but gosh dang it everything looked amazing! I don't recall if there were seats outside the building, but it was cold so my friend and I enjoyed our noms in the car. The chili was my favorite (it had a nice kick to it and was really hearty), the mac and cheese was super creamy and decadent and the kale salad was perfect to give me something nutrient dense. I'd definitely come back again!

The ultimate comfort-food spot! Packed on a Saturday night at 5:30pm, 30 min before 6pm closing. Massive skillet of mac and cheese before you, alongside their maple BBQ pulled pork and maple bisque soup, with the first two being what they're known for. Loved the mac and cheese and bisque the most. So rich and sumptuous, with the bisque being like a pie soup - thick and sweet. So charming, too. Even their maple lip balm is creamy and great. Would recommend this spot to everybody. 5 stars!!!!

Great Mac and cheese parking sucks for sure the maple pulled pork was fantastic probably the best offering to be honest. Sandwiches were skimpy on meat and nothing homemade I would have expected store cut rare roast beef not processed boar's head type cold cuts . If you can go there when it's slow and no waiting in lines due to social media hype it's an overall decent place

Welp... I was over on IG a few months ago and saw a Reel of this place and specifically for their Mac n' Cheese - so ya know... I do my thang and drive all over kingdom come to try this Mac n' Cheese. It was legit! and I make Mac n' Cheese ala soul food style a/k/a #PattiLabelle recipe. I also grabbed some of their Pulled Pork, Potstickers, a sandwich and some cheeses. Because... WHY THE HELL NOT??!!! #wheninrome right?? LOL I was actually staying in New Hampshire so I needed to hit the road before I lost the sunlight. I had called a week before to inquire about muffins and was told they would place some on hold for me, which they kindly did. All of their baked goods looked delicious and the prepared foods was as if 'comfort' was what they had in mind. I shared the Mac n' Cheese & Pulled Pork with my big Sister and she called me later to say next time I'm in town she wants to head up that way and get some for herself! Respectfully Reviewed

I really loved this stop during out Vermont road trip. It has 2 buildings, one where the deli is and one for more cafe items. They had a huge selection of food at the deli ranging rom hot foods, snacks, and sandwiches. The sandwich line was a little slow, but it was because each sandwich crafter was dedicating their time to perfect each sandwich. I got the traffic jam on sourdough. I couldn't decide which protein to try so I got a little bit of everything. It was well worth it. We also got their famous mac n cheese, very creamy and packed with enough cheese. I also wanted to try their pulled pork because they use maple syrup. Can definitely taste it. This place well worth the stop.

This place happened to pop up on my TikTok feed while we were in Vermont. We wandered over to try out this "infamous mac and cheese". Sometimes it feels like the influencer is being paid for these reviews on TikTok but this place DID NOT disappoint! First know that the place is small, parking is a pain, and there's always a line once you finally get in. However, the line moves fast and the food is fantastic. The first time we visited we got sandwiches, the pulled pork, and the mac and cheese as well as some other random items. Everything was fantastic but the Mac and Cheese was top notch! It was by far the creamiest, cheesiest, most mouth watering I've ever tried. We went back sometime later for seconds. I swear they ruined Mac and Cheese for me. I'll never be able to enjoy it anywhere else.

The Mac and cheese and bbq is sooo fire and so are the sandwiches! Heard about this place from a friend who grew up there and so when we made a trip to visit Vermont we had to check it out! Sooo yum and the service was extra speedy even though there was a long line... not much parking around but we eventually found a place to sit and park

Line was well worth it! Workers work quick to get you what you need as soon as possible. I got the traffic jam which was loaded up and delicious. Also the cider donut woopie was soft and delicious. Would highly recommend this place. Good luck parking during busy hours.

I wish I could find words to really review this place but we weren't given the chance. No greeting or acknowledgement while we walked through or while we waited by the food case/register. Disappointed!!

this place is a mac and cheese heaven!!! I saw a tiktok about this deli and it had raving reviews so my bf and I stopped by on the way back from a ski day, and fell in love. We got the large mac and cheese, and went into the car to eat. As soon as we both took our first bite, we immediately went back inside to buy another tub. They also have a bunch of other food, like burritos and pasta, and a large selection of sandwiches on the menu. For our first visit, our only agenda was the mac, but next time we will try all the other things! The line was long, but it moves fairly quickly and the food is definitely worth waiting for.

Great stop for lunch. We love their traveling turkey sandwich . Bread excellent! All ingredients very fresh. Others swear by their Mac and cheese. Outside seating. Service good.

Food was amazing, the cranberry turkey sandwich was perfect, as well as the carrot cake Whoopie pie. Was hoping for a better coffee selection though but can't complain about anything else

A quaint country deli and one of my favorite places to stop at for a quick bite when passing through the area! There seems to always be a line, but they move it along quickly. There are so many dishes to choose from but my favorite is always the pulled pork and Mac n cheese. Definitely the best I have ever had. Highly recommended.

Excellent sandwiches at a little spot we discovered in Brattleboro,Vermont while driving to New Hampshire. The deli is MIGHTY extensive chalked FULL of baked goods including pastries, cookies & breads. Had to wait in line but well worth the wait! They also have a country store across the street from the deli. Bought a loaf of the sourdough bread ( which was great toasted) & ordered 2 delicious sandwiches, 1 Turkey & 1 salami & ham. Very good fresh marbled rye bread. All sorts of cold & hot salads. (Known for their macaroni & cheese) Prices were decent not extremely high. Street parking is limited when busy time of day.. A few tables outside the store. Wish we had this deli near us!!!!

The perfect choice if you're stopping in Brattleboro, Vermont. When you walk in the deli, to your right, you see a prepared, food counter, a sandwich, counter, and a dessert counter. You kind of work your way around the U-shaped set up and then pay at the cash register. I highly recommend the thing from the deli case. we had their outstanding macaroni and cheese, which was a real highlight. We also had their maple pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw and then we picked up a selection of salads, including the beet salad and a sweet potato salad. Everything was excellent. Oh, and the Whoopie pie we got for dessert was the best I ever had. Not too sweet at all, which is usually my complaint about Whoopie pies. Something here for the whole family.

Got the traveling turkey sandwich, the baked mac and cheese, and a drip coffee. Everything was just okay. The baked mac and cheese is good, but it's nothing ground breaking. The social media buzz about this place has made it too saturated. We got there at 9am and it was BUSY. People were pretty rude; staff was nice and to the point.

I loved this place! I was doing a travel job in VT and thought I'd check out some of the famous Vermont Country shops (the store and deli). Well, I can easily say, this deli did not disappoint. Everything I read on the deli said the Mac n cheese was the best. So of course I bought the largest size. It was beyond divine with chucks of melted cheese throughout and a pleasantly seasoned flavor. I tried a few pastries too and everything was good. The butter tart and truffle were especially good. I was slightly disappointed with the chocolate ganache cake because the cake itself was dry. All in all, the deli is a cute little shop, packed with fun goods and excellent food. As I was checking out, the young lady who was helping me offered me either a bag or a cardboard box to take everything home in. I chose the cardboard box because I had purchased so much. She was very helpful and friendly. If you're in Vermont, it would be a shame not to go to a place this cute and get some goods or souvenirs!

Vermont country deli is our go to stop on the way up to Burlington or anywhere else in VT. The mac & cheese is a must have. I also always get a 1/2 (yes they serve 1/2 sandwiches) traveling Turkey sandwich so good on their homemade wheat bread. The chips are my fav Deep River brand. The dessert case is amazing and my husband loves the big peanut butter cookies, whoopie pies are a good choice too. Lots of VT candies near the register too. Parking can get a bit rough due to how many people stop here.

THIS MAC AND CHEESE IS LIFE CHANGING! If you find yourself nearby, you absolutely must stop for a taste of their prepared foods. We regularly visit for the Mac and cheese, sesame chicken, pot stickers, and Cesar pasta salad. I've never had anything just average here - it's all amazingly delicious! Their giant cookies (individually wrapped, and at the entrance to the store) cannot be missed! Service is fast, despite the never ending line out the door. There is no seating at this location, but you can walk across the street to grab a spot at one of the "Vermont Country Market" picnic tables outside. It is their sister store, which sells home items and prepackaged food.

Stopped here for lunch while driving to Canada. It was a cute little place. I would not advise coming here if you have a lot of people with you or if you're looking to sit down and eat but if you want to grab things and go, this is a great option. It took a few minutes to find a place to park as parking in front is very limited and the small lot across the street was full. We were finally able to snag a spot and went in to order sandwiches and some pastries. The line at lunch time was long but it moved pretty quickly. I had roast beef on sourdough. The sandwich filling was good, although the horseradish sauce could have been much stronger...as it was, I could barely taste it. The sourdough bread was very thick and chewy. It was great for holding the sandwich together but it was so dry and thick , it was hard to chew. A little thinner bread and it would have been much easier to eat. I sampled some of the mac and cheese, which was fine. Their desserts and pastries look great. I shared a cannoli cake and it was fine. We were able to find a spot at one of the picnic tables across the street so we didn't have to eat in the car. Overall, this is a solid spot. Sandwiches are pretty large so I would recommend sharing...that way you have more room for dessert!

Wherever we went, people told us to stop at the Vermont Country Deli, so of course we did. Tons of food choices, we ordered breakfast sandwiches to go.. if I lived closer to VT, I'd probably be there 3 times a week.. a must visit!

As everyone else says - definitely get some Mac & cheese! The pulled pork is also delicious. I treated myself to a couple dark chocolate caramels & some very tasty, not overly sweet carrot cake. This will now be a routine stop for us on our to & from Vermont.

Came here on a road trip. Stopped for lunch and it was very busy. Good food. Brussel sprouts were mid and the mac and cheese was the burnt parts. The chili and pulled pork sandwich were definitely the winners. Would recommend as a fun stop!

We stopped by there on our way to Montreal Canada. It was a pretty nice deli. All the food looks so tempting. I wanted to order everything. I ordered a sandwich. Just fyi sandwiches are so very big. It would be more than enough for two people. Service was so great but it was pretty crowded. They managed pretty well. Ambiance, they don't have indoor seating. Only takeout or you can sit outside by the park. If I ever drive by there it will be the palace for me to order my sandwich.

We had mac and cheese, very good, Rt9 sandwich and ham and turkey on marble rye. Both very good. Fresh veggies and bread. Will be back!

We stopped here on our way to Stowe to get some lunch. We were coming from New York, so this was almost right in the middle. We all got sandwiches, and they were amazing! They have a bunch of fun sandwiches on the menu, but you could also make your own. I created my own with a fresh roll, turkey, swiss cheese, banana peppers, lettuce, and horseradish mayo. It was made very quickly right in front of me, and tasted so fresh. They also have a lot of snacks and pastries, if you're looking for something small. We all really enjoyed it and ended up stopping there again on our way home!

I was in Brattleboro around lunch time hunting for a decent sandwich. I found the Vermont country deli. Not an overly large place but has many refrigerated display cases with delicious looking homemade items. I went with a roast beef sandwich on fresh homemade sourdough with a horseradish mayo, lettuce, fresh tomato, red onion and sharp cheddar cheese. Very good. Would definitely recommend. The deli has numerous sandwiches made to order and sides that were also homemade. They even had a wide selection of dessert and pastry to choose from. Definitely worth a stop and I'll definitely be back.

My husband and I discovered this wonderful little place when we were driving through the area. We stopped to get something for breakfast. I had a cinnamon bun which was fantastic, and my husband said his egg sandwich on an English muffin was the best egg sandwich he has ever had.

This is a really cute place to stop by for lunch. The deli offers several great options for sandwiches, hot foods, baked goods, and beer and wine. The market is quaint and has a good amount of random little gifts and groceries to shop. My husband had the Travelin' Turkey Sandwich, while I had the Chicken & Black Bean Burrito. We both liked our meals - I was unable to finish mine because it was huge, but the flavors were good. We look forward to stopping by here every year during our travel to NH!

There's very good sammiches, chili, soups, pulled pork and mac & cheese, huge cookies, beer/wine/sodas. But imo the best things here are the whoopie pies. We got a seasonal pumpkin whoopie pie & a chocolate whoopie pie. The pumpkin one had a maple cream cheese filling that was light and creamy. The chocolate one had a light whipped filling that was perfect. Both cake parts were fresh & moist & so soft - the perfect texture. Being suckers for anything blueberry, I had to get the gluten free blueberry crumble. It ended up being like a crustless blueberry streusel pie! Loads of tiny wild blueberries, & oat streusel topping. So good! The friendly service here & the great food explains the crowded parking lot. Highly recommend!

Ok so thank you fellow yelpers for writing excellent reviews for this deli! Because of these reviews I added The Vermont Country Deli to our list of things to do on our Brattleboro trip! First of all the hype is real! My husband and I went on a weekend during lunch time and it was packed! Many locals were saying how they come here legit every day for lunch especially for their mac and cheese. The Mac and cheese lived up to the hype for sure! It was extremely rich, creamy and cheesy! Definitely will fill you up but so so good! I got their roast beef sub with Vermont cheddar and it was so good! I loved how I was able to order a half size instead of a whole too! We saw the desserts displayed so beautifully and we knew we had to get one of their pies! We went with the mixed berry pie and oh my freaking god! That was the best pie I ever had! Soooo delicious! The two of us ate that entire pie in 2 days flat! Get this pie! If you're in the area or just passing through be sure to give The Vermont Country Deli a try! I know if we come back to this area again we will make this place a go to stop!!

Dear Diary, Today Kevin actually SMILED at me! he's so cute I could DIE! but I might ACTUALLY die when mom gets my report card, I swear Miss L. has it out for me, and even worse Kara got ALL of my friends to switch lunch tables and leave me sitting with that weirdo loud lucy, I can't stand another lunch with her yelling about how grandma brought her to a real music show. anyway diary, mom said I wouldn't get to have a sleepover with Elena tomorrow night if I did get to bed, 11 year old girl name OUT!

I've driven by this place hundreds of times, and finally had the gumption to stop in. It's a nice little deli with a fun selection of stuff and the food looks great! In my experience, every time I try Mac and cheese in Vermont it's BANGIN. This was no different! I tried both the regular and French onion Mac and cheese-so good! And I got the veggie samosa too, while it wasn't too traditional-it was very good. Their sandwich selection looks awesome and I will try one next time. Same with the bakery. If there's a line-it's still worth it.

Wow. I'm still dreaming about this sandwich. The gluten free roll- such a great chew to it and not at all dry, and had a nice cheddar flavor to it. I got their "half size" turkey sandwich (with cheddar and cranberry) and it was just the right amount of everything. I'm so happy they offer gluten free options now. Even their marketplace across the side street has some gluten free snacks as well (like grain free peanut butter filled pretzels)! The apple crisp is enough for two people and is so delicious warmed up. We stop by often on our way to visit family, but we haven't been in a few years... this is the first time I can remember finding gluten free options. So exciting. Even if you're not gluten free-- try the roll and thank me later!

We received many suggestions to visit The Vermont County Deli on our day trip to Brattleboro, and it was a perfect spot to get lunch! Though it was very busy, the line moved quickly because of their efficient process. The I-91 Italian combo that my fiancé ordered was so good, he had my jealous that I didn't order it myself! I ordered a custom turkey sandwich for myself, and I loved that they offered Cabot cheddar. We had heard great things about their mac and cheese, and even though we had the last serving before their freshest batch came out, it was very good! Loved their selection of desserts and the quaint, country vibes. I would definitely stop here again!

Yup, you want to stop here. Wether you are on your way to ski and don't want to cook tonight or you left the mountain hungry this is it. Grab a quick bite to go from their delicious homemade menu. Good food made to fill your belly after a long day on the slopes. The perfect spot. Mac and cheese made with sharp Vermont cheddar is everything Mac & Cheese should be. Great soups and sandwiches and a selection of prepared foods in the case. Not to mention local goodies like cheese, maple syrup and drinks (alcoholic and non) The dessert case is a delight too, homemade pies and sweets. This stop is not to be missed with local goods for everyone in your car!

I might be wrong about this, but years ago, I used to go to a place with the name Vermont Country Deli or a similar name in Northampton, MA and I loved it. I remember ordering a turkey sandwich with apples and baked goods there. I felt a similar vibe when I walked into the Brattleboro Vermont Country Deli this weekend. I saw numerous things that would have interested me had I been there at a different time. They had a great sandwich menu, good looking desserts, tasty looking prepared foods, Vermont products and a cooler of cans of Vermont beers. It was a cute store and oozed charm. On this occasion, I just got a house blend iced coffee, various baked goods, a loaf of sourdough and maple taffy. The black iced coffee was good and balanced. My cranberry orange scone was tasty and had good texture. I bought two giant chocolate chip cookies for the family. Everybody loved the cookies, but my son pronounced his the best cookie ever and said he's willing to make the hour plus drive with me to buy more. He also liked the sprinkle-covered Rice Krispie treat. The maple taffy was soft and delicious. I haven't sliced the bread yet, but I'll update my review when I do.
