They've only been open for about a month and I'm gonna' go ahead and call it now....if they keep doing what they're doing and how they're doing it, lines are going to be out the door and around the corner.
If you're like me and always looking for that off-the-beaten-path kinda' burger joint that hasn't gone mainstream yet, this is your spot. It's the epitome of a hidden gem and the quality of food they're throwin' out is pretty damn amazing to say the least. It sits on a corner by itself, tucked away in a quiet neighborhood and if it weren't for the stop sign 10 ft from the front door, it could easily be missed. There's street parking available on the side of the building where we were instantly greeted by one of the owners working the BBQ grill. Inside is an inviting, nostalgic Route 66 diner kinda' feel, The menu on the wall is simple and not overly cluttered, where BBQ seems to be the staple like a BBQ pulled pork sandwich for $4.55 or the BBQ tri-tip sandwich for $7.95. There's a homemade hot roast beef sandwich wtih Au Jus on the menu but don't get it mistaken with the roast beef sandwich that's only served as a special once a week because they're not the same. Apparently, the weekly special roast beef is a secret recipe that was given to them by a former iconic restaurant in Stockton that was known for their roast beef sandwich's and they pride themselves with this recipe. I will definitely be trying this on my next trip for sure because it sounds amazing. Everything on the menu looked equally good but there was no way I was coming this far to stay clear of my love for burgers.
When ordering, I did what I normally do at new spots and I asked for the biggest, messiest burger they make. He accepted the invitation, gave his recommendation and ten minutes later I found myself biting into something put he'd put together from two of the burgers on the menu - a Double Bacon-Infused Ultimate BBQ American Cheeseburger that had burger porn written all over it! Two house-ground chuck and bacon patties topped with nicely melted American cheese, mounded with BBQ pulled pork between two fresh pillowy buns. The Meat was cooked perfectly, BBQ pulled pork was moist and tasteful, swimming in a candy coated BBQ sauce bursting with flavors almost as if it could be served alone as a soup du jour. Everything you'll find here is fresh, the beef chuck is ground in house for the burgers, the potatoes are all hand cut and then fried to golden brown perfection and the BBQ'ing is done on a grill five feet from the back door. For those of you that bring your big boy underwear they even have the Bacon Infused Challenge - a 1 lb bacon infused burger with 1 lb of fries and if you finish it your picture goes on the wall of victory.
Overall, I was very impressed with the whole experience. The food was great, the entire staff was polite and very engaging, offering personal recommendations and explaining everything from how the food is prepared to the history of things on the wall. The prices are low enough to be unheard of these days for the caliber of food you're getting. So, if you're ever in Stockton and wanting a great burger joint with a pleasant staff get over to this place and help spread the word!
