Madeira, Portugal, Dining Guide to the Food & Drink Scene | Eater

"A tall, contemporary hotel tower that rises over Funchal with sleek rooms and balconies offering the island’s signature glimpses; its convenient location near the historic center and on-site dining make it a practical base, with rooms positioned at a mid-range price point during high season." - Austin Bush

The hotel is superb and slept a 5 star. Our stay was very comfortable and enjoyable. The service was excellent and staff always similing and helpful although they worked long and hard. The quality of the hotel was impeccable. We chose in-house dining as the location is just over 1km away from the town centre and it was very good. The pillow menu was greatly appreciated. The minor points were the free shuttle service could run more frequently instead of hourly, no iron in rooms so we had to a laundry room where there was only one iron and ironing board, and the Amazon firestick was blocked so we couldn’t watch our programmes. Otherwise, no issues and our stay was great!

Great hotel, great value for money Uphill so not very easy to get to the center by foot and parking in Funchal is quite challenging, but there’s a shuttle service, uber and buses. The hotel has parking. The spa is free to enter and very nice as well as the outdoor pool area. Breakfast was very good. Every evening there’s live music in the cocktail bar, and the service is great. Our room was the studio which was very spacious. The only things that I would suggest to enhance: - There’s only one cooler in the spa area. - The shower was a bit disappointing since the shower head had one function and was kinda old and too strong of a stream. Our room had many ants the morning we woke up and after asking to clean it we still had occasionally, I don’t know if other areas in the hotel were like that or not. Overall great hotel and great experience!

We had a great experience staying at The Views Baia: amazing view from the room, excellent service, very attentive staff (I had my bday during the stay and the hotel staff provided special breakfast and got bottle of sparking for us, was a very nice touch). Breakfast has a good variety of food, coctails are well made. Spa is a nice place to relax after a day of hiking. The hotel is 15 min walk from town center, it wasn’t a problem for us (taxi from town center is 6-8 euros and easy to find if needed) Note: we rented the car and followed Google maps on the way from airport. If you use it - be careful as Google maps shows the turn to the hotel across 2 lines of traffic and it’s actually dangerous and illegal.

We had a lovely stay at The Views Baia hotel in Funchal. The hotel is set into the cliffs overlooking Funchal. The facilities at the hotel are excellent especially the spa area where there is a lovely swimming pool, jacuzzi, sauna, steam room and ice bucket. It is very well maintained and the staff are very friendly including Elizabet and Martin. The outdoor swimming pool is lovely and there is lots of space there including a pool bar which is open throughout the day. There is also an excellent gym which has good equipment and well maintained. The rooms at the hotel are lovely and spacious with an option to choose cleaning days if you wish. We felt the cleaning of the rooms was not always to an excellent standard with a lot of dust in the room and sometimes not replacing essentials for the room. The entertainment in the evening is excellent including traditional Portuguese dancing and live musicians. The cocktail bar is lovely but does get busy in the evening. The breakfast gave a great selection of different foods and the staff were always so kind and friendly. The hotel is a 20 minute walk from the town centre and it is accessed on busy roads - we found it was better to use Uber and the hotel bus to get us to and from the centre as we didn't feel the roads were always safe. I would really recommend this hotel.

Booked through Jet2 & Stayed at the Views Baia for 7 nights in a deluxe junior suite. The room was clean & the kitchen area well equipped. Good choice at breakfast & this was enhanced with being able to order off the deluxe menu, lovely blueberry pancakes & eggs Benedict. Because we were in a deluxe room had a seating area for breakfast with spectacular views. We only had dinner in the hotel once & this was a carvery buffet with a good choice. Drinks in the bar were reasonable & the entertainment was good. Even though on a hill we found we still managed to walk back to the hotel after a day’s sightseeing. Good facilities & helpful friendly staff. We enjoyed our stay & first visit to Madeira so much, we have already booked again for our 26th wedding anniversary next September.

It's in the name. The View. Architecture of hotel is questionable as guest are lost in maze of lifts on way to the spa. You get one of the best views in town, not the greatest hotel or service. Good generous breakfast, I must say that omelette cook could use 2 skillets at same time. I didn't specifically enjoyed toom beside a view, as again have to question design choice and fact I had to run AC in January as room was too hot and too noisy from street traffic. Overall good but won't be back. Complimentary parking is available and easy walk to town about 15 min.

I visited Madeira for the second time with my partner and this time chose The Views Baía for our stay. It turned out to be a great choice. The staff were warm, attentive, and really helped make the stay feel special from the moment we arrived.||The location worked well for us. It’s a short walk into town, and although the walk back has a bit of an incline, that’s part of Madeira’s charm. I was also glad to find plenty of free parking for our rental car.||We enjoyed the facilities, especially the gym and spa, which we used often.||I want to give a special thank you to Patricia and Ana V. They consistently went above and beyond at both breakfast and dinner, and were always there to greet us with such warm hearts and big smiles. Learning that they’ve been with the hotel for 25 and 31 years made perfect sense, they’re a real asset to the hotel!

Extremely Disappointing Service and Zero Empathy..Not Recommended!!! Due to a death in the family, I had to cancel my booking. I submitted a cancellation request, which was rejected without any explanation. I then called the hotel twice and was told both times to call back the next day. It took two full days before I was finally able to reach the person in charge, only to be informed that “nothing could be done.” I was told that if they mark the booking as a no-show, the payment goes to Booking.com, and the hotel wouldn’t help any further. Instead, they issued me a one-year voucher, which I cannot use or even give to someone else because it is tied to my name. I explained several times that it’s simply unrealistic to return to that location within a year after experiencing such a personal tragedy. Every other hotel I had booked with showed understanding and flexibility, except this one. There was no sympathy, no apology, and absolutely no compassion shown during any of my calls. The responses were cold and unhelpful. I cannot recommend this hotel. A complete lack of empathy, no willingness to make exceptions in genuine emergency situations, and very poor customer service. I did not feel cared for as a guest at any point.

Yelp
really nice place to stay. indoor pool is amazing. staff is nice (except wait staff). i see that buffet has pros and cons...like a cruise but they could warm food better. lots of entertainment and places to rest in the sun. dinner isn't served till7:30... so no one eats lunch on this island, just expresso and pastries. uber eats comes here in minutes....so don't worry.

Yelp
Staying In beautiful Funchal for a month to learn a new software package. I chose the Four Views Hotel for its looks and magnificent views of the Harbour. My room is large by many hotel standards being on the eighth floor with a sea view (supplement extra) its the perfect place to work and relax. The hotel has I very high standard being clean and well maintained. I'm room and breakfast, the breakfast buffet is excellent. I've also enjoyed to pool area restaurant where they serve delicious sizzling platters they have a veggi option too. Great Hotel highly recommended, friendly staff too.
