The Best Restaurants in Spokane, Washingston | Eater Seattle

"It’s a feat in and of itself to stay in business for over 47 years. It’s completely different to do so while evolving from a neighborhood hole-the-wall beer bar to what many believe is one of the city’s best bang-for-your-buck restaurants. Spokane has no lack of eateries offering burgers, wings, and nachos but you can count on one had the places that do it well. The Viking offers fresh ground ribeye patties, all house-made wing sauces and nachos that come in styles like Buffalo chicken or Philly cheesesteak." - Kris Kilduff

My son made a great choice with this place while we were in town. Wife had the fish tacos which she loved and my son and I both had sandwiches. All the choices sounded delicious. They have vegan choices, kids menu and even a Sunday brunch. Beer options and plentiful and if you desire something stronger they have that too. Pool and shuffle board is available if you’re interested in staying a while.

Loved the fish tacos. My friends has 2 different sandwiches that they both loved. The bar has shuffle board and pool tables.

I had The Mighty Thor Brisket sandwich. It was phenomenal! A ton of meat, melted cheese, bacon and slaw on a bun. I always opt for the bbq sauce on the side and the meat was cooked so good the sauce was not needed. I opted for a salad instead of fries or tots and it was a real salad, not just a little thing. Huge selection of local beers and I wish I had taken a cab so I could have tried more. I just wish it wasn’t 2836 miles from my house! I wanted a shirt but they didn’t have any. If I lived here this would be my local hangout spot for sure.

This place is now a weekly stop for me! The Chicago Philly cheesesteak is unbelievable. Very high quality ingredients, soft bread and lots of flavor. The staff is amazing as well, very friendly and attentive. The drink selection is also very large. Highly recommend this place!

Our waitress recommended the blue cheese fries and the pretzel. We couldn't finish them both because there was too much food but we would be back cuz that was a great pretzel and great blue cheese fries and the waitress was very knowledgeable and very friendly

Came here for an early lunch. Minors allowed during the day, but quite dark inside. Great for adults. Food was good. Service was great. The female server/bartender was a 10. Wish the nachos had more cheese and toppings for all of the chips. Chicken strips were a bit over cooked. Portion sizes are great as are the drinks. Service alone, with decent prices and food make this a good place to drop in. Definitely better suited for adults.

The sandwiches were fantastic. If it was closer to home, this place would be a weekly setting. Taps are plentiful and seem to rotate often. Atmosphere is solid, semi Irish pub feel to American sportsbar. Will be visiting again.

Today, I tried something off my list, Viking, known for burgers and beers, and I had planned to order one of those bad boys, but then something else caught my eye - the French dip sandwich. Let me tell you, it was out of this world! The horseradish added a unique twist that I loved. And the fries? Crispy and delicious, thanks to the beer batter. But that's not all - I also tried the pasta salad on the side. Spicy and full of Mexican flavors, it perfectly complements my sandwich. And the best part? Our server was super friendly and attentive, making sure we had everything we needed. Now, here's the kicker - we happened to visit on game day, which meant the menu was even more exciting than usual. I've heard amazing things about the shrimp tacos they serve, and I can't wait to go back and try them for myself. This sports bar has it all, and I can't recommend it enough! Yelp
Get ready for some March madness, folks! I recently discovered an amazing sports bar that's perfect for the occasion. Not only do they have an incredible selection of beers, but they're also famous for their mouth-watering burgers. Today, I had planned to order one of those bad boys, but then something else caught my eye - the French dip sandwich. Let me tell you, it was out of this world! The horseradish added a unique twist that I absolutely loved. And the fries? Crispy and delicious, thanks to the beer batter. But that's not all - I also tried the pasta salad on the side. Spicy and full of Mexican flavors, it was the perfect complement to my sandwich. This sports bar truly has it all, and I can't recommend it enough!

Yelp
Buckle up, because we just discovered this hidden gem! Think dark, dive-bar vibes with TVs lining the walls and a pool table just begging for a challenge. But it gets better! This place is overflowing with old-school charm - vintage pictures and statues everywhere, seriously cool. They even have an outdoor patio calling our names for when the weather cooperates. Now, the real drama: VEGAN MENU ALERT! I dove straight for the vegan nachos, but hold on, the cheese situation was a little...artificial telenovela, you know? Cascadia still holds the crown for best vegan nachos in Spokane (sorry, not sorry!). But fear not, fellow plant-powered peeps! This place has tons of other vegan options begging to be explored. My sis got fries that were seriously out-of-this-world good, and rumor has it they have sweet potato fries - a mythical beast in Spokane! Sandwich + sweet potato fries date night, anyone? Speaking of amazing, let's talk about our server. Not only was she super friendly, but guess what? SHE'S VEGAN TOO! We bonded instantly, and she even steered me towards the plant-based chicken (which is definitely on my next visit list). Let's just say, I'm used to waiters giving me the side-eye for ordering vegan, so this was a breath of fresh air. Extra tip for this superstar, hands down! This place is a winner just based on the service alone, but the food and atmosphere are pretty darn epic too. We'll definitely be back for round two!

Yelp
Came to The Viking after our adult volleyball league for food and drinks. I usually order the mozzarella sticks tossed in Buffalo sauce (you get like five but they're HUGE), however, I was feeling very drained physically and wanted some protein. Ended up going with the chicken strips tossed in their Buffalo sauce with sweet potato fries! Best choice this week. It was delicious and hit the spot. 10/10 love this place.

Yelp
This is such a cool place. The staff and food were on point, and we had a great time. We fully enjoyed our food and dug the vibe of the place.

Yelp
The Viking is a great place for a burger or appetizers and drinks! The food is delicious and they have great specials! The bar is spacious and clean! The staff are friendly and quick to bring food and drinks. Great beer on top list and good cocktails! If you're in the mood for a fun and laid back dining experience I highly recommend the Viking!
google avatar

Kaitlin D.

Yelp
I've been here a few times, mainly for the mozzarella sticks which are huge and worth the price since they are homemade! The inside is clean and rustic, pretty dark during the day but I like it. Their beef dip sandwich is one of the best I've ever had and has no fat! Their prices seem high at first but almost anything is these days but the quality in ingredients and preparation can't be beat. Tonight I dined in and got their Wednesday burger and beer special for $13, I didn't upgrade to a side for $2 because we also got the mozzarella sticks. The burger special comes with garlic aioli, house made pickles, American cheese, and a brisket burger patty. This burger was hands down the best burger I've ever had, especially for a simple one. The bun was also excellent. The meat didn't have a weird texture like a lot of pubs do, this was seriously great quality! My boyfriend got the buffalo blue burger and said it was amazing. We will definitely continue to support this place because of the quality and taste in their food. If their quality was like most other places I wouldn't come back because they are pricier by a couple bucks so as long as they keep the quality I'm totally cool with the price! Thank you guys for outstanding service and quality you can taste!

Yelp
Our server was friendly and anticipated our every need. Our food came quickly and was very tasty. The drinks were super tasty. But the buffalo chicken nachos were 10/10!

Yelp
Man, what a survivor this place is. In the late 80s and early 90s, this was a place to be--and be seen. Hotties and Heros, all adorned in cheap a** White Shoulders/Aspen colognes, with everyone trying to get....well, you know. It has been several renditions of a dive bar over the decades, but regardless of ownership, it has had the staying power to be a good pre-game cocktail(s) before a sporting event at the arena, or just a nice local for friends to meet. Current crew are doing great; food is hearty for carnivores; and, the patrons are a diverse blend of well-dressed/mannered middle agers. What a nice, nostalgic little trip to my past this lunch was...
google avatar

Yelp
This was our first time to this bar It was a Seahawks Sunday game so we went for their "brunch" food and to watch the game. The food was mediocre and they were out of chicken fried steaks. The gravy was dark and did not taste fresh. The customer service was excellent and the drinks were above average. The ambiance was great, a nice "local bar" in an area that only locals would find. We recommend you try the Viking!!
google avatar

Bri K.

Yelp
Looking for your new favorite dive bar? Look no further! The Viking has everything you need for a fun evening watching your favorite sports team. It's my favorite spot to play pool in Spokane and the beer selection is always top notch, just like their staff. Not to mention they have vegan/vegetarian options!

Yelp
Ive got to say this place has become one of my goto spot for lunch ,every day they have a special ......monday wings .......tuesday tacos 2 tacos 6$ and there tasty and decent size , which has been my tuesday hang ,good beer selection, and great service , even if they're busy the guys always confirm your there and will be with you shortly..........

David B.

Yelp
The wings here are horrible. They were not crispy , they were way to wet for my liking . The buffalo sauce tasted like franks . If you have hot wings on the menu please step your game up . If you like wings , go elsewhere.

Yelp
Friday special fish, chips & chowder. Served in-house only. Get over here on a Friday!

Yelp
We haven't been here for quite awhile. It's still dark inside and they still have a lot of beers. There were 3 women behind the bar having a conversation while we waited to be acknowledged. Eventually we were. I had the house Margarita ($6 for Happy Hour) and my husband had a an Ayinger draft. The Margarita was super good - better than most at other places where they're $10. Since it was Tuesday they had a list of specials. We chose the 2 Street Tacos for $5 with ground beef. They were sooo good! They have a lot of interesting food on their regular menu so we'll try something else next time. Meeting my friends here next Tuesday, though!

Yelp
Stellar service. Super duper hot wings if ya like that. Great beer selection. No complaints.

Yelp
My bowling team and I decided to make The Viking our regular spot to grab a drink and some dinner before league on Thursdays this season. I feel like I have had a very good portion of the menu, and every time I try something new I am blown away. The food is not your typical bar food, most everything is made in house. There is a real pride and quality you can taste. The atmosphere is you classic fun sorts bar. The staff is amazing our bar tender/ server is a guy named Jesse who seems to interact with all his customers like he has know them for years. The drinks are great I love the old fashioned. They also have 24 beers on tap. I will make sure after bowling season is over, I come get my fix of the pork belly crackins and some amazing dinner menu. Bring your friends and enjoy this hidden little gem of great food and people!

Yelp
The Viking qualifies as a sports bar, lots of TVs with ESPN and games on. They have two pool tables and lots of tables and some bar space for patrons . . . the interior is a bit on the dark side but comfortable for me. Tap beers are listed on a chalk board and they have a lot of 'em (see pics) . . . I had the River City Red the first time in, but I went for the Golden Handle Blonde this time (was torn between the Blonde and the Hop Valley Pale Ale and the waitress got me samples); the Pale Ale was good but that Blonde was excellent! The Fish and Chips is my order . . . pretty much everywhere (note: some of the old menu pics show Mahi Mahi F&C, that's old info. Cod F&Cs now). The Fish was wonderful, nearly best in town, so close to my other favorite that it's hard to decide. The fries were very good and I had a few tots and they were good.

Yelp
Fun place to meet up with a bunch of people! The staff was prompt and very friendly! Plenty of seating and the music was very good. I ordered the grilled chicken Caesar Salad and it was very tasty! Fun side patio seating for a quiet place to chat with friends.

Yelp
The Viking Bar (https://spokaneviking.org/) not a place for Service animals. today 2 of us veterans went to enjoy beverages and food at the Viking. We both have service dogs. The bartender/manager asked me for paperwork which is againt the law as I read it WAC 247-215-06570states: (c) service animals that are controlled by an employee or individual with a disability in areas not used for food preparation and usually open for customers, such as dining and sales areas, if a health or safety hazard will not result from the presence or activities of the service animal; Our Service animals are not pets. the provide a service due to our disability. An offical complaint will be filed. and I will not support such an establishment physically or by word of mouth. They offered for the vets to sit outside in the heat with there service dogs.

Yelp
Surprised I have never been here before. Stopped by with a friend to check it out. - Great service. - Taco Tuesday! Loved the tacos. Shrimp and fish were grilled and not fried! A big plus for me. While they were not overly cheap, they were well worth the price. - Very good beer selection. I could easily find something good. - Liked the atmosphere. It was not loud while we were there and there is outdoor seating. I will be back.

Yelp
Wow! What a great pub! As soon as I sat at the bar, the friendly bartender was there to take my order and explain the beers. I ordered wings, chose the extra hot sauce, he advised against it, I persevered, he suggested getting the sauce on the side, I did, I'm glad I did! The wings are huge here! I got a pound of them and it was about 9 wings. Very filling, oh so hot! I needed a Caesar salad to cool off with, so I ordered the wedge salad with Caesar dressing - equally huge and great flavour! The food here is relish! And while I didn't realize it at the time, the wings are half price on Mondays, making them $9. There is also trivia on Mondays (and Thursdays?) run by an engaging and well-spoken young man, with interesting and challenging questions and prizes! It was a great evening entertainment that cost me nothing! Hats off to this pub for excellent food, a huge beer selections, free entertainment and engaging, customer service focused staff! Fantastic! I wish I lived in Spokane!

Jenny S.

Yelp
Initially, the service was fantastic that server got off shift. We obtained a different server, who is also fantastic. Two hours later that server clocked out and we were left with no server and no service at 8 PM. I would not recommend going here if you expect to get service after 8 PM
google avatar

Brianna H.

Yelp
Went here for lunch, good food, drinks & excellent service. I will say, i didn't love their beer selection, but they had plenty to chose from, just nothing I loved. We got the pretzel, mozzarella sticks, wedge salad and pork belly bites, all were delicious. Would highly recommend the mozzarella sticks. We will be back!

Yelp
I like a number of places here in Spokane but wanted a sandwich at somewhere I haven't been to before. Nice find with inside and outside dining available. Tried blue cheese fries and the Philadelphia Cheese sandwich. Both were very good very friendly and fast service.

Yelp
This place is amazing - my friend and I were in Spokane visiting from Austin and had the best time. They had excellent NA beer for me and my friend enjoyed all the awesome brews they had on tap. We loved playing shuffle board - had originally planned to just have a quick beer but instead stayed for a few hours and played 4 games of shuffleboard! The place was super clean and had good atmosphere. The staff were very friendly and it was nice to be in a place the locals clearly frequent. We had so much fun - I had to get a T-Shirt! :-) Highly recommend for a happy spot to get a beer.
google avatar

Andrea F.

Yelp
I haven't eaten here yet but the PB&J Old Fashioned was much more refined than one would expect! Just get it , delicious and very friendly staff.
google avatar

Eric L.

Yelp
My wife and I both love this place. The food we have tried is delicious, especially the wings. Rotating tap selection includes cider, pale ale, water (bud & coors light), and some Imperials. The story I heard is they recently (past year or two) were rebooted by a former employee husband/wife team along with a little support at the time. We're looking forward to many more visits.
google avatar

Yelp
Weird location but the inside has a great atmosphere! Good selection of beer, although the glasses were warm and I probably got the bottom of the keg because mine was pretty flat. Nachos were delicious though! Enough for a meal for two people and left overs. Servers were very nice

Sherrie B.

Yelp
The service sucked bad and rude. I've been there a few times and things were good but yesterday was not. I picked up my elderly mother who uses a walker and was meeting my sister and her husband. When we arrived we found them at a patio that was to the east. My sister stated it was too cold for them in the bar. We noticed there was no servers coming out. A couple told us they don't serve out there. They told us the other patio did. Ok so we walked my elderly mother with her walker and my sister who was being aided by her husband because of a stroke she had suffered to the north patio through the bar. Sat down and waited and waited for a server. I finally went to the bar, a little frustrated at this point, one person stated they will have someone out there then a guy told me that we were suppose to let them know we were out there and that they had no way of knowing that we were. I told him that we paraded through the place from one patio to the other. He stated that they were busy and didn't notice us. He then proceeded to tell me that there was a sign on the door as you walk out on to the patio. I wasn't happy with the rudeness by this time and as I walked back out to the patio I had noticed that the door was propped wide open and the sign was facing outside so there is no way we would have seen it. I relayed that to our server as I told him about the rude treatment I had just received. He took our drink order and that took a long time to get. I ordered the philly nachos that I had before and he asked if I wanted wanted half order or large. Me not knowing the difference ordered the large. When it arrived it was huge. On a very large pizza pan. I checked the menu and it stated it fed 3 to 4. He even brought plates and forks for it. I know it's my fault for not looking closer at the menu but he could have informed me that it fed 3 to 4 people. Everyone else at my table were getting their own food. It was good though. I just needed a very large pizza box to take it home. The others ordered the fish and chip special. That was a good deal and they enjoyed it. When it came time for the check I asked our server if they give a senior or military discount because I qualify for both. He said "we do give a military discount but it's only 10 percent ". That was kind of dumb. Ten percent off of $100 is $10. That's a lot for some. Probably won't be back. Not like they care.

Yelp
Came in for Thursday night weekly special burger. $7 served with a side of fries or tater tot's. The worst burger I've ever tried, McDonald's is more satisfying. I am not a picky eater, as long as there is flavor I am usually satisfied. The patty seemed like it was a flavorless, old breakfast sausage, Over-dried. Very disappointing. Just because it's a daily special it should not taste like shit. Two star rating is being nice. Beer was good. I will stick to the drinks and the pool table
google avatar

Lanette K.

Yelp
Great bar, great food, great service! Loved coming here and it's been on my list for a while. Doesn't look like much and yes it's a bar, but man it's so much more on the inside once you give it a chance! Has definitely turned into a fave spot for me now.
google avatar

Ethan G.

Yelp
The ONLY reason they got 4 stars, is because when it came to the bill we waited about 30 minutes for the waitress to return with our card. We had a table of 6, lots of food and appetizers, lots of beer and drinks. Great bar, waitress was very cool until it was time to pay. Great personality, etc. The food was great! The BEST nachos I have ever had. Be prepared to share them... 3 of us ate off of this plate, and there wasn't even a dent in them! Great convenient location for dinner before Spokane Chiefs game or a Spokane Arena concert!
google avatar

Jennifer B.

Yelp
Stopped in here tonight to try out their food. I ordered their steak bites. They were fantastic. They give you a lot of flavorful steak bites. The horseradish-blue cheese dipping sauce is delicious! We also ordered there blue cheese fries. They're battered and loaded up with blue cheese sauce, blue cheese crumbles, bacon, and green onion. Very tasty. Their beer selection is great. We look forward to going back and trying other food selections.

Yelp
The menu Here was amazing. The food and service were excellent as well. Everything was affordable. It is not kid friendly at night. It is a bar, but their menu was unexpectedly great. Don't miss this place.
google avatar

Mary S.

Yelp
We've always enjoyed the Viking. We recently stopped by on a quieter evening. The staff was friendly and attentive. We enjoyed the mozzarella sticks as an appetizer. Cooked to perfection! Light and crispy on the outside and deliciously gooey in the inside. Served with a side of marinara (superb). Next was the fish and chips and a sonnenberg's sausage sandwich. The fish was a little greasy, tons of "chips". Sonnenberg's sausage is the best!

Alex R.

Yelp
This place will take your card and let anyone charge anything on it. The bartenders don't care and neither dose the owner.
google avatar

Eddie R.

Yelp
Quite frankly they serve the best French dip in all of Spokane and surrounding areas. I would even dare to say that it is the best I have ever had! It is worth the visit.

Todd S.

Yelp
Great service and food was fabulous!! Food came out quick. We be back for good drink and food.

Ann K.

Yelp
Burger is petrified! Better quality control on the making of this hamburger. Cheese Burger terrible. Even though it was a kids order I would ever ever give it to my child. Sad as the adult burgers are good. Someone needs to follow upon this and make sure kids burgers are eatable .

Michelle S.

Yelp
Great service! Clean place, music wasn't too loud, and fantastic food! We got the French dip and habrock with tater tots. Everything was very delicious, down the the pickle served with the sandwiches. Great spot to drop in for a lunch date
google avatar

Yelp
Play is AMAZING! Workers are really polite and nice. Trivia night is usually when I go and it gets very busy. Other then that everything is great. The place is really clean.

Alejandro A.

Yelp
I have come to The Viking several times before. Today we were met with such rudeness, even before we were seated.
google avatar

Reggie A.

Yelp
Go now! Get off the internet and drive to the Viking for awesome service, beer selection and great food! GO!
google avatar

Patti R.

Yelp
Fun place! I understand it is a Spokane icon pub! Service was great ! Close to downtown
google avatar

Yelp
Fabulous fish & chips. Mahi mahi cut into manageable pieces that easily dip into a delicious chipotle style tartar sauce. Great service great prices.
google avatar

Joe D.

Yelp
Great place. Live venue! This was an exciting night! I'm a little buzzed! Didn't have the chance to eat maybe next time. The drinks were good not to strong. Maybe they were ha ha!! Hell yeah. But they have outdoor music, in a tent hell yeah! I had a bomb ass time! Telling all my friends and going to the next show even if it's in a work night.
google avatar

Yelp
Came from Seattle and found this gem. Good food, good beer, good service. Highly recommended

Yelp
Great place to grab a bite if you like great food. Their brisket sandwich and bacon jam burger is fantastic!

Yelp
Lots of drink options and fun cocktails! They have a large menu and $2 off appetizers during happy hour. The bartender was really nice and friendly and we got great service.
