The Best Restaurants in Portland’s Charming Multnomah Village - Eater Portland

"Inside this colorful ice cream shop, Multnomah Village locals Don and Tracy Webber serve their house-made ice creams in cones, milkshakes, sundaes, or ice cream sandwiches. Here, ice cream hounds will find a rotating cast of flavors, including orange cardamom, dairy- and gluten-free pineapple ice, and Andes creme de menthe. The ice cream factory even makes blue moon, an ice cream flavor rarely seen outside of the Midwest." - Janey Wong

This place is just what we needed after a hot day running around the city! Lots of great flavors, but only two non dairy options were offered to accommodate vegan/lactose free folks. The Aztec Chocolate (non dairy) was amaaazing- hints of coconut milk and dark chocolate. Super tasty and for a great price too!

Google
Delicious ice cream; this is definitely not Dairy Queen and it’s reflected in the prices. I’ve attached a picture of the menu as of August 7th, 2022- a 2oz kids scoop is $4, a malt is $8.75, and toppings are 25¢-$1.50 each. Expect to spend $7-10 per person plus tip.

Wow! The ice cream is really good. Superior to the chains like Salt & Straw, Coldstone, etc. Found it through google maps … definitely worth a stop for sure. The bad - it’s small with no real seating. The flavor selection is limited (no 32 flavors) however, the flavors that they do have are really delicious. I’ve tried other “family owned” shops that rebadge generic ice cream. Not this place- we had the vanilla, mocha chip and cookie dough. All three were amazing.

Google
First off, their ice cream is amazing. Rotating flavors are great. Standard flavors are great. Milkshakes are great. Everything is reasonably priced. Just great all around. But what really takes this place to the next level is how nice the staff are. Always so happy and friendly. My son (hes 2) got a kids cone today, immediately dropped it and broke it/got it dirty. And without hesitation they just got him a new one. Just 5 stars all around. I will continue to support and buy from and get pints from them. The best!

Love supporting these little Handmade Shops and this one did not disappoint! Give it a visit the next time you're in the area.

Google
Delicious ice cream. Chocolate Peanut Butter Fudge and Lavender Honey are my favorite!

Google
I love coming to support local small business, even though we can’t come very often. Their homemade ice cream is so delicious, and there is always something new. I loved the Coke and Butterfinger flavors that they had awhile back!

Google
Just tried this place and wow! Great service, some really fun ice cream selections, and at a reasonable price. I got a waffle cone with Cookie dough and it was great. The chocolate chips, were awesome, and the dough was excellent. Will definitely be going back! 🍦🍦

Yelp
Friendly staff, there was only one person working at the time so the line was getting long, but nothing they couldn't handle. Our Ice Cream & Milkshake were delicious! Lots of seating area, outdoor dog friendly, washing station, and many disposable cans to throw away your waste (not sure why that's important but it's something I noticed). We can't wait to stop by again!

Yelp
Everything is fine but the ice cream is just not that good. Location great. $4 for a kid scoop

Yelp
Times like these, I wish yelp allowed for half stars. It's definitely 3.5 stars. The price point is a large part of the rating for me. A split scoop on a gluten free cake cone cost $7.00 (+$1 tip). That's more than at other places. I did really enjoy the summer peach. It was delicious and full of flavor. Perfect for a hot day. The Java chip was ok. I'm a coffee ice cream hound, and it fell flat for me. I do like the fact that everything is clearly marked gluten free. And there are so many options.

Yelp
I was really excited to have a new ice cream place in the Village because GOOD ice cream is something that's been lacking In SW. Sadly it's something that we're still missing. The Village Ice scream Factory is trying, but unfortunately their efforts aren't really getting them to great or even good ice cream. On my most recent trip, I picked up a pint of Cookie Monster. At $8, I expected it to be on par with Salt and Straw, 50 Licks or Cloud City. To my disappointment, it was like Ben and Jerry's sad cousin, Len and Hairy was left in charge. It was pretty good, like certainly chocolatey and creamy, but it lacked rich texture and creaminess only found in real ingredient ice cream. It had a fake-ness that's out find in grocery store brands. Upon inspection of the label, it's clear why - ice cream base. No thanks. True to the "factory" name, it seems their product- or at least the base - originates in a factory. Hopefully they figure out how to make real ice cream because they've got a nice spot that could do good business. For now, I'll continue to drive over the river to Cloud City.

Yelp
Premium ice cream is an excellent special treat to behold and taste. Otherwise, you'll see me at the grocery store picking out one of the specials or wondering where the nearest Baskin-Robbins (and cheaper) parlor is located. My Son and I stopped in the Village Ice Cream Factory (Multnomah Village) and really enjoyed our generous single scoops (in a dish). I can't remember what David had, but my Cookie Monster choice was excellent.

Yelp
I am so glad I finally got to try this ice cream shop!! They have simple flavors and also fun an innovative flavors. I tried the rosemary blueberry and lavender honey. They were delicious. Customer got two malts in front of me and those looked AMAZING!! They have large appearing pints and I think in the future I will go get a pint to bring home. While 8$ seems pricey for a pint, a scoop of ice cream was $5. For great quality and supporting a local business I'm on board. Can't wait for the next flavors I try! Staff is incredibly friendly, and they always have water out for the puppies.

Yelp
Came here after noticing it while walking by. Even though it was just minutes before closing the girls working were friendly and our ice cream was delicious! We'll definitely be back.

Yelp
The Orange Cardamom was excellent. Really creamy and perfectly balanced. A new favorite! I'm definitely recommending it to friends and family. I wish they could afford to charge a little less - I'd be there a lot more often! $5.25 for a single scoop on a sugar cone is a bit much, so it will have to remain a special treat for me.

Yelp
What a great place! The owners are awesome people and super friendly. Delicious ice cream all around. Do yourself a favor and stop by and check it out. I fully support mom and pop (local) businesses and this one is at the top of my list! Highly recommended.

Yelp
Was surprised and delighted to learn that the Village would be getting a new ice cream shop to fill the storefront vacated by Blue Star Donuts. I love good homemade ice cream, like Salt & Straw or Haagen Dazs, and our neighborhood has been sorely lacking in having a place like this. So I've been shivering in antici................pation for this new establishment to open, with a heavy dose of trepidation to see an ice cream place open in winter during a global pandemic. I was pleased to hear that they are partnering with another local establishment, Alpenrose Dairy, to supply their ingredients. Well, they opened this week and I stopped in to sample their goodies. The staff were super friendly and the store was cute. I got a variety of flavors - tried the pumpkin pie, vanilla, cookie monster, and the mint. I admit that I wasn't blown away with the taste, yet I'm hopeful that it can improve with feedback and trial/error. In general, I felt that all of the flavors lacked a creamy consistency that can be found in more homemade-like ice creams with higher milkfat - they struck me as a bit more icy than creamy, a bit like grocery store ice cream. I thought the cookie monster and the mint had potential, but the vanilla was nothing special and the pumpkin pie tasted flat. However, I have heard that they are going to have a rotating menu of flavors and may even accept neighborhood input on this, which I love. I really hope they take a seasonal approach to flavors and include some more unique ones in the future beyond what you can find in your typical grocery store. Prices seemed the same as Salt & Straw prices, so maybe a tad high for what you get unless some changes are made. I also hope they look into getting compostable utensils to contribute to a healthier environment. I look forward to seeing them continue growing the business and improving their ice cream, which I'd love to come back and try again.

Yelp
My favorite ice cream! It's so good and I always get three scoops. I usually get cookie monster, cookie dough and thin mint or creme de menthe!! So good!

Yelp
Hooray for excellent ice cream in Multnomah! Delicious flavours. I had enjoyed a flight and tried 4 flavours - each one unique and richly full bodied and creamy. I will be back soon.

Yelp
Wow! Absolutely love everything about The Village Ice Cream Factory! Had the MOST delicious peppermint bark ice cream I've ever had. If you're in the neighborhood, make sure to check it out!

Yelp
I didn't see a space to answer about gelato. I adore gelato. Seems to be extremely popular worldwide. My favorite is lemon, Love lemon and Lime. Some make a Key Lime to die for. Other traditional menu flavors like double Chocolate, Hazelnut (very Portland), or Nutella, all the Berries, Tiramisu, Sweet Cream, Pistachio or some mixes are appealing. Chocolate Chip or better Stracciatella may fill that gaps to fit in traditionally and may be popular with children and adults. The health aspects add to its popularity. Making the most delicious ice cream without even using cream but milk add to its a plus dessert even on a diet! Portland grows all the fruit and nuts locally too, beating ice cream as a healthier choice!

Yelp
The best ice cream in Portland! Look no further as we have sampled many in the city and this by far the most creamy and delicious. Sorry Salt and Straw, this our new go to.

Yelp
The chocolate malted "frosty" is hands down my favorite chocolate ice cream ever. The vanilla is also a solid crowd pleaser, and it uses a local vanilla extract from Eugene. It's great to have a homemade ice cream shop in the village! I love that they keep the website up to date with current flavors, are open to suggested flavor combinations, they have a walk up window for anyone not comfortable going inside (or if it's nice out and/or it's busy inside), and they offer gift cards! To top it off, the owners are our neighbors and are some of the nicest people around. Win, win, win!

Yelp
I have visited Portland before but never had ice cream. Thanks to The Village Ice Cream Factory, I'll never visit again without going there! Amazing ice cream and the staff is so great! Thanks, everyone! I'll see you next time I'm in town!

Yelp
The best homemade ice cream! So many fun, out of the box flavors and a variety of toppings. The people that work here are also super friendly, you can tell they enjoy doing what they do. Kudos for great treats and a great atmosphere!!

Yelp
Super friendly and delicious! I made a special trip to go here and it did not disappoint. Flavors were delicious and the store was sparkling clean and I felt very safe/comfortable there during the pandemic. Create your own ice cream sandwich, get an ice cream flight, or a milkshake! Loved the options!

Yelp
This is my favorite neighborhood ice cream shop! All of the flavors are so delicious, I especially like the honey lavender, and I have been converted to a chocolate fan because of their creamy creamy ice cream. The employees are always very nice and helpful and offered a pup cup to my dog, who enjoyed it very much! I recommend this shop to everyone looking for made in shop ice cream and unique and wonderful flavors!

Elin K.

Yelp
Heading for a scoop asap. The owners gave a discount to our PTA and made the CUTEST coupons for our OBOB participants. Thank you! Ms. Kordahl, Maplewood ES, Teacher-Librarian.

Mariam J.

Yelp
The ice cream is tasty and there are so many flavors to choose from! My favorites have to be coffee and donuts and the honey lavender. they also have super creamy delicious milkshakes. The store is very sanitary and they have contact-free option for people who don't feel comfortable coming in!

Renee L.

Yelp
I love this little ice cream shop. The people are super friendly and the ice cream flavors are unique and constantly changing. I am so happy that they are offering options for dairy-free and gluten-free folks. Highly recommend and love all the flavors we've tried so far.

Kyton C.

Yelp
amazing business! I've been there couple of times now and every time I'm blown away with their unique and delicious flavors. Every favor that I have tried has been the perfect consistency and creaminess. The staff are all delightful and their ice cream is obviously fresh and homemade. They make their own cones so the store has a nice sweet smell that only adds to the experience. I would 100% recommend The Village Ice Cream Factory to anyone that wants delicious, creamy, homemade ice cream!
