The Top Restaurants the Northern Catskills Near Hunter Mountain | Eater NY

"Sommelier Cordelia Schreiber opened Ze in 2015. Her much-loved spot has been named one of America’s best wine bars by Travel & Leisure, and the selection — close to 40 vintages — lives up to the acclaim. There’s a small food menu of organic small plates and weekly wine school sessions that provide insight into the growing, pressing, and even storing of the beloved beverage. Closed on Sundays." - Robert Rubsam

Google
My group had such a lovely time at the The Vineyard at Windham. The staff was incredibly friendly, helpful, and accommodating. I had requested a gluten free wine tasting, and they created a beautiful cheese and charcuterie board completely gluten free, as well as providing a delicious gluten free dessert for the group! None of us really loved the taste of the wines, but we had such a great time because of the atmosphere, food, and staff!

Google
This is a very nice little winery. Pretty scenic views. Prices were $45 for a 5 pour tasting. Did the red flight and was hoping it was good. For the most part I could not find one that I liked. Cool place and worth a visit.

My partner and I went here for some wine tasting and it was very nice. The view was very nice and calm, we loved to music choice and customer service was a 11/10. Will be returning.

Google
Shout out to the incredible server, she went above and beyond to make my moms winery experience special. I love the outdoor seating. The tasting was delicious.

Google
Awesome place, so comfortable on a snowy April Saturday. Great and friendly service, and great drinks. Could have stayed here all day!

Google
Came here with a large group and enjoyed the experience because of the nice weather and space to relax and play games. However, I wouldn’t come back because it is definitely overpriced for mediocre food/drink/service. For large group pricing, it was $75pp for a flight sample with snacks. The samples were quite small and the wines were just okay. 3 of us were designated drivers, so our minimum package was $25 for just the charcuterie plates. We had 14 guests and the server brought out 7 plates of snacks for us to share. I would have expected a better selection/variety of snacks at that price point. There was also only 1 server for the whole vineyard and so she was clearly stressed out and not very friendly.

Google
It's a very nice place. Super small but great views good wine. Make a reservation before you get there; usually it's very busy during the weekend

Google
Is a cute winery with good wines. Many from the Finger Lakes area of NY. Wine prices significantly increased from the finger lakes region. We had 22 adult people close by who wanted me to make a few reservations for wine tasting for them. I found out it was $40.00 for a red wine tasting and that would be too expensive. The women behind the bar had no comment. That is fine but kind of think working with us on that would have brought in some nice business. No response so we bought a bottle and left. Oh well.

Yelp
Came on a rainy cold day so everyone was sitting inside. It was just two of us but they had much larger parties, like a bachelorette party. My first time visiting a winery and I loved it! My friend and I each got a flight to try a few different wines. Then I had to try my favorite type of wine, Sav Blanc, theirs is delicious! Barely any parking so try to car pool.

Yelp
Stopped by on Saturday 7/26 for a quick tasting. it was reservations only but was kind enough and let us in with out reservations. The hubs got sloop juice bomb IPA which WAS light and delish. I had the white flight. It was a nice variety in the flight. I am a Chardonnay girly but the Millbrook was too light, I'm more buttery gal. Surprisingly I loved the Pinot Gris. My second best was the dry Riesling. The charcuterie board was good, the meat selection was good, there was a spicy selection which was my fav.Over all the winery was top notch, good selection of whites, good beer for non winos. The ambience was industrial yet modern which I loved. It was light, airy . 10/10 too bad it's so far from home.

Yelp
The charcuterie platter is as decent. I expected more of a variety of cheeses. As a group we had 4 different wine flights. Some of the flavors did not suit my taste buds. The service was decent although I was taken back when you had to go to the bar pay the bill when a 20% gratuity was already added. With that said it's a great place for photos but inside and outside.

Yelp
I loved the wood decor everywhere that provided such relaxing and fancy vibes. My friends and I ordered the cheese plates and a bunch of flights. I wish there was more to the plates, especially since we ordered two. Service was great, and I loved my rose cider. My other favorite drink was the sparking diamond. I actually don't usually like wines because they're dry, but I loved how sweet the rose cider and sparkling diamond were.

Yelp
Loved this vineyard! The place is decorated beautifully and it's so cozy inside. The wine flights were also great. They give a great pour and there's many different wines to choose from. Also, the little charcuteries were delicious and enjoyable. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable and made us feel welcomed. Definitely recommend and can't wait to be back!

Yelp
Me and my husband didn't have reservations but happy they had a spot for us nonetheless! The hostess/server who greeted us seemed overwhelmed and said they were real full but sat us somewhere and said we got lucky b/c someone was 39 mins late to their reservation but that we would have to leave if they came! It was raining so we took our chance! We had their signature flights w/c had 5 tastings, 2 white, 2 red and 1 rose! I'm not a fan of Riesling so I didn't even try it and their white tasted like cotton candy. Too sweet if you ask me! I did like the 2 reds A LOT! And my husband's fave was the rose! Inside was cute and outside was even cuter but since it was raining we couldn't sit outside and enjoy the view. Luckily we sat on couches near the window and enjoyed the view in the rain! They also have a private room for events! Cute vineyard recommend their reds if you don't like sweet wine like me!

Yelp
Amazing experience, the view and the ambiance were on point. Will definitely go back next fall.

Yelp
Drove more than an hour with my wife, and two sisters based on random recommendation. Very nice venue, but that was about where it unfortunately ended. Olivia was nice but definitely aloof about everything winery. No vines were present in the winery. The "charcuterie board" was NOT a charcuterie board at all. We ordered 2 and received 2 small square containers with several items less charcuterie. Soggy crackers, small toasts, few grapes, stale nuts and minimal cheese and barely any dressed meats. Very poor presentation and quality. Olivia did not give any details on the "Signature Wine" flights that we ordered. We did purchase 3. Olivia did give us many reasons why no grapes, vines and the "acidic soil" being the reason most grapes were brought in from Long Island and the Finger Lakes. She did express she was a resident of Windham for about 25 years and she was working on her undergraduate while working. Hence her laptop, open on the bar top. Please note that only another couple arrived 20 minutes after ourselves. Olivia was never rude and she was courteous, but she definitely should not be representing a winery. Wine was fair. We expressed that the Cab/Merlot was filled with debris in all three glasses. She just expressed that's the was those bottles were. NOT. Great looking venue, Olivia was very nice but should not be at a winery and very bad "charcuterie board". Cannot recommend at this time.

Yelp
Excellent atmosphere and friendly service. Delicious wine tasting flights and recommendations. Indoor and outdoor seating available. Parking on site.

Yelp
Walked in here on a Saturday at 1:15pm and was turned away since I didn't have a reservation. When I looked it up online, it didn't say that reservations were needed in order to get a table. When we got there, there were only 3 tables that were occupied, no one was waiting to be seated and the whole patio/deck and indoor spaces were open. Would've loved to try the food and wine here but was unable to.

Yelp
We were warmly greeted by Justice as soon as we entered. I love when you go into someplace new and feel well taken of from start to finish. It's interesting that the vineyard at Windham creates using grapes from various local wineries. The bootlegger and dry Riesling took us all by surprise at how delicious they were considering we aren't big white wine drinkers to begin with. Absolutely loved these two and the red blend on the signature tasting. Great cheese plate offering to sustain us through the wine tasting. A wonderful spot to visit if you happen to be in this area.

Yelp
We had an amazing experience thanks to Rick! His wine knowledge is unmatched and gave us a full Rundown of the flights with skill. Rick really helped educate us about local Wine and food. He even had good restaurant recs for after the tasting. 5/5 for me and we'll be back!

Yelp
The vineyard is small, but cute both inside and outside. The decor is very modern and the outside deck overlooks the mountains. There are lots of different wines to taste from whites to reds to sparkling. The owner and server are very friendly and attentive. The only downside which could be a deal breaker for some people is the pricing. The prices for everything are steep. The cheapest bottle of wine goes for $30. The cheese and charcuterie boards were also overpriced at $18 a piece for a small box and were the only options for snacks. I went here for my birthday, but would not make this a regular place because of pricing so keep that in mind.

Yelp
Had an amazing time here. Awesome cheese: NY Gouda!! Go figure. Make sure you find Rick. He's very hospitable and showed my friends and I a great time! I highly recommend this vineyard. Oh, btw try the Martha Clara Malbec. It tastes amazing.

Yelp
Spending Father's Day in the Catskills, my wife and I wanted to find something fun to do in the area. Naturally we were looking to gravitate towards some alcohol and this vineyard popped up on our radar. We came on a Sunday and was a little worried since we did not know you had to have reservations prior. Luckily there were a tables opened and we were able to be seated. The interior is beautiful with some retro decor. There are plenty of outside seating with shade as well. We did the 8 tap tour and cheese plate. The cheese plate was really tasty, I personally thought it was great value. The wine selection and beers were delicious. Our favorite was the wolffer rose cider. We liked it so much we even got a growler to go. Our server Ian was awesome. Not only was he extremely friendly, but definitely knew his info about wines and beers. We had a great time here and really look forward to a future visit.

Yelp
Classy and cozy - Great wine, meat & cheese board and ambiance. For the quality, this place was well priced. Friendly staff but definitely attracts the "influencer" type clientele. Our reservation was at 2 pm on the weekend, which turned out to be the perfect timing, it seemed to get busy at 4 pm. Side note: Please tell me where you got those coffee tables... no seriously.

Yelp
My girlfriends and I were in town celebrating a bachelorette party and couldn't pass up on a wine tasting thanks to some Yelp research. And what a great experience it was. From start to finish Rick answered all of my questions professionally and promptly. He even provided third party car service recommendations. Rick also offered a couple celebratory options to help kick our day off right. Please make a reservation ahead of time. Otherwise, good luck. This new space is screaming 'good time'. Even the entrance is inviting. We were seated outside in their lower patio area with separate tables to practice social distancing. The fire pit was a great touch. To start us off I reserved a champagne toast with Rick while making our reservation. As for the tastings, they offer multiple flight options; Red, white, sparkling, rose, and even one with all of the above. They offer a spin on a charcuterie board enough to share between three people (pictured) with a meat and cheese assortment or one or the other. Although the complimentary desert was left behind, it was a thoughtful gesture nonetheless. Come wine with Windham. And don't forget your reservation and mask!

Yelp
This vineyard is amazing. Rick met us at the door with such a great spirit and he is amazing. Rick constantly came to our table to check in on us and he is the reason we would come back. After Covid it is very hard to be comfortable at places but Rick made us so comfortable during our experience. Please ask for Rick when you go. The ground at beautiful and the socially distant tables and chairs and understanding everyone is timid at these times allows me to give this vineyard a 5 start rating. AMAZING EXPERIENCE .

Yelp
Such a hidden gem. Perfect for a day get away! Tasting was great and they have few local wines, we got few bottles for home. Outside patio area was so quiet and relaxing. Definatly will be back!!! 8min drive from Widham mountain, just perfect.

Yelp
Drove for 3 hours and wanted to get a glass of wine to relax. The entrance sign states they open till 7, but as we walked in at 6:35 they informed us that their bar is already closed and there is no way whatsoever they can pour us glass of wine.

Yelp
I've been coming to Windham for over 30 years. The Vineyard is one of the best additions to the mountain area. Everyone is extremely nice, accommodating and respectful. They take care of the people they serve and have a beautiful set up, inside, outside, all over. I couldn't recommend enough.

Yelp
We had an awesome experience! Didn't know what to expect but Rick was AWESOME and accommodated my boyfriend's allergies so effortlessly (nuts and gluten). The wine was awesome (I prefer the reds and whites over the beer and rosés) but soooo good! 100% recommend this place! We'll be back in the spring to sit on the deck and listen to the live music!

Yelp
Small winery, nice staff with really nice indoor and outdoor seating. Got the speciality flight with the wines made there, which was kinda hit or miss (mostly miss, unfortunately). Their charcuterie boards were okay. Kinda expected them to come out on at least something non-disposable, but they came out in what looked like cardboard takeout boxes, which is sort of unfortunate.

Yelp
Wow what a amazing winery. The staff is very attentive, you can make reservations, the wine tasting was fun and good, the decor was very modern. I met the owner, he definitely puts a lot hard work into this place. The staff went out of there way to take photos of us and to recork a bottle we didn't finish. Definitely try the meat and cheese platters. I would definitely would repeat.

Yelp
Had an relaxing enjoyable time tasting all of the amazing wines they have! My family experience such polite and friendly service. I highly recommend tasting some great wines while you socially distance.

Yelp
We stopped by for a great quick tasting -- really enjoyed the flights, great variety and really showcased that NY wine has some interesting + tasty things to offer. Staff had a great attitude and the charcuterie hit the spot for a light bite. We even got a sneak taste of a couple wines they had in big stainless vats getting ready to be bottled which was fun.

Yelp
We had an incredible time here. I can't thank the staff enough for being so welcoming and fun. It was super easy to make a reservation online for my group, and when I needed to call last minute to add another person, it was no problem at all. When we got there, we were greeted warmly, like we were old friends, and sat outside on the patio. I also appreciated that they are taking precautions with mask wearing, distanced tables, and temperature checks-- I definitely felt comfortable and safe. They brought us out some waters and explained the tasting menu. They even brought us out some soft cozy blankets to cuddle up in as it was a bit chilly. I'm not a wine connoisseur but I ordered the rosé tasting and enjoyed it a lot. We also split a few charcuterie plates. I loved that a lot (if not all) of what we ordered was local. I know there's a ton of other wineries in the area, but I'd be coming back here for the top notch service in a heartbeat.

Carls K.

Yelp
Went to the Vineyard for the first time since the new owners took over (around 2018). The experience was great! They have remodeled the inside and it's much more modern. The vineyard produces its own riesling as well as serving a variety of wines exclusively from New York wine producing regions. Our favorite produced by the winery was the reserve riesling. Definitely recommend making a stop if you are in the Windham area.

Natasha A.

Yelp
My family and I had an incredible time celebrating my cousin's birthday at this gem of a vineyard back in September. The venue was adorable, and was extremely COVID-safe. Service was great and the wine flight selection was pretty good. Only thing is I wish there were more food options outside of the crackers and cheese.

Yelp
Came here for a birthday weekend with my boyfriend and it's such a cute spot! There was only one other party when we arrived, so it was fairly quiet. We wanted to sit outside, but it had just snowed so the furniture was wet, such a bummer! We each got a tasting with a cheese plate. The older woman serving us was so polite and knowledgeable about the wines.Apparently they had just switched owners, so we were a little upset that we did not get to try any of their own wines, but we still enjoyed all of the selections!

Shauna R.

Yelp
Great little vineyard, the views are nice with large windows with seating. Plenty of wine to choose from and the overall atmosphere is very appealing. Everything is updated and modern! Also the staff was very attentive and nice.

Trey K.

Yelp
Not sure if these other people went to the same winery as I did... fairly nice upon arrival but was given dirty glasses and the climate was fairly odd. Outdoors was pretty noisy as trucks constantly pass by on the main road right next to the property and the staff did not give a very welcoming feel. Will not be returning back

Maureen M.

Yelp
Just stopped in to the newly renovated windham winery. Fabulous. Ronnie and Jeanne are so warm and inviting! Can't wait to come back with friends.
