Vineyard Hotel | Best places to stay in Cape Town

"Despite its size, The Vineyard offers the charm of a boutique property, with the 211 rooms spread across eight acres of indigenous gardens. The heart of the hotel is a manor house dating to 1800, but the rooms deliver contemporary comfort. The facilities are impressive, from a choice of swimming pools and a well-equipped fitness centre to the gorgeous Angsana Spa. A highlight for both guests and locals is the sweeping garden terrace, where the popular afternoon tea can be enjoyed while admiring the massif of Table Mountain. Be sure to seek out the riverside walking trail, and ask about the hotel’s tiny vineyard, hidden amid the gardens. Hidden away in the quiet leafy suburb of Newlands, it’s ideal for those wanting a quiet central location more than city sights and nightlife on the doorstep. There’s easy access to freeways for sightseeing day trips further afield. " - Richard Holmes

Really good hotel high quality rooms nice bed. Pretty spacious rooms, I did my laundry but a weird lady wanted to do it privately and started messaging me for money. Amazing view with a really nice garden area however it feels very procured and concentrated but amazing Restaurant is really nice but waiter doubted age for a chicken mayo sandwich which got on my nerves That hasn’t really happened over the course of my 12-13 years of frequency visits but was fine Nonetheless amazing hotel

We chose the Mountain Deluxe room specifically because it advertised a private patio. Unfortunately, this was misleading. The patios are far from private, neighbouring patios are directly adjacent and effectively on top of each other, making it extremely easy to see into other guests’ rooms and personal space. Privacy was a key selling point for us, and this fell very short. The room itself also had several basic maintenance and cleanliness issues. The toilet flush did not work properly, there were visible pubic hairs left on the bathroom floor indicating an incomplete clean, the bathroom bin was broken and jammed, and the shower flooded due to gaps in the shower door. For a hotel of this standard, these are unacceptable oversights. We were also required to move to another room of the same category the following day. While this was not ideal, we agreed to accommodate the request. However, the handling of this move was poorly managed. On the morning of the move, we were called at exact checkout time and asked to collect our bags. I explained I would revert shortly once I had gathered our belongings, which I did around 20 minutes later, assuming we would be moved directly into the new room. Instead, we were told our bags would be stored until the new room was ready, meaning we would only be allowed to check in again at the standard check-in time, despite having paid for continuous accommodation for five nights. This was both inconvenient and unreasonable. Breakfast was chaotic, disappointing and long for nothing. The experience felt more like mass catering at a large budget resort or a cruise ship than a boutique hotel. The hostess appeared flustered and panicked when we arrived and struggled to locate a table. Ordering simple menu items was unnecessarily difficult, and the wait times were very long, the order was incorrect multiple times. When the food finally arrived, the execution was poor. We also had dinner at the hotel the night we arrived. While the pizzas were acceptable, they took a good 45mins to arrive. The main dishes were a letdown - overcooked fish and sloppy, poorly executed pasta dishes, sloppy, overcooked and a mess on the plate. I wasn’t sure if I had a plate of pasta or a giant bowl of warm goats cheese with herbs. One good thing is the serving staff were lovely. Overall, the experience did not match the expectations set by the hotel’s branding, pricing, or reputation. There is significant room for improvement in room standards, service flow, and food quality. I think the saddest part is that nobody really cared. I’m not sure if anybody knows what’s going on.

I cannot praise the staff and their service ethic enough. Superlative experience not only because of the exquisite gardens nestled at the base of Table Mountain but because of the friendliness of staff happy to see to one’s every need. There’s a gorgeous pool, and a well appointed gym. The food was excellent here too from breakfast to room service to dinner on the terrace. We were so sad to leave.

Our visit to The Vineyard for high tea was an absolutely excellent experience from start to finish. The setting itself is serene and elegant, with beautiful surroundings that make you feel instantly relaxed and ready to indulge. The high tea selection was exquisite — a perfect balance of sweet and savory treats, each crafted with care and presented beautifully. From delicate pastries to flavorful finger sandwiches, every bite felt thoughtful and indulgent. The tea options were plentiful, and each cup was served with attention to detail, making the whole experience feel refined yet comforting. What truly sets The Vineyard apart, however, is the staff. Their warmth, professionalism, and genuine hospitality elevated the afternoon into something truly special. They anticipated needs before we even voiced them, checked in with grace, and carried themselves with a level of care that is rare to find. The staff truly “takes the cup” — their service was the highlight of the day. Highly recommended for anyone looking to enjoy a memorable high tea experience. Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or simply treating yourself, The Vineyard delivers excellence in every way.

The The Vineyard Hotel is a truly special place. Its location on the green, leafy side of Table Mountain is beautiful, with extensive gardens leading down to the river for peaceful walks and stunning views in every direction. It feels calm and restorative, yet you can easily walk to local cafés and village-style shops with great energy and atmosphere. What keeps us coming back year after year, however, is the gym. It has fantastic vibes — floor-to-ceiling glass, incredible natural light, and views either of Table Mountain or over the pool and gardens. It’s immaculately clean and extremely well organised. The real standout is Chris. He greets everyone who comes in, keeps a watchful eye on the space, and somehow makes even busy periods feel calm and well managed. He helps people find space, keeps everything flowing smoothly, and brings such positive, engaging energy to the gym. For us, the gym has become the heart of the hotel, and that is very much down to Chris and his team. The care and professionalism shown in the gym is a real credit to the hotel.

Well run, relaxing hotel. Room was comfortable and clean. The food was very good, especially the breakfast. The manicured grounds are beautiful and it is a treat to eat outside. This must be one of the last high-end hotels in Cape Town that hasn't been snapped up by a major, international chain. It was a bonus seeing the tortoises, as well as the mother duck diligently taking care of her babies. Use lots of sunscreen at their relaxing pool - the sun really sneaks up on you. Shopping and good restaurants close by. I loved the colonial elegance of the hotel, though a few areas seem to be having an identity crisis between English colonial and contemporary South African styles. Fast wifi.

Rooms amazing, the gardens magical, the staff so friendly and the breakfast and food totally to die for. This hotel leaves you wanting more, you never want to leave and can't wait to come back.

Our stay has been nothing but simply amazing. Having a toddler running around with the squirrels, ducks and tortoise was a joyful experience. My "coup de coeur" is Kelsey from Square Restaurant, she has been so helpful and made our experience even more delightful! To all the staffs as well a huge thank you, we will definetely visit again.
