Yelp
I found Lost Creek to be a hard one to rate. I'm qualifying my rating as 4 stars to those who appreciate French style wines, with a focus on Merlot & Cab Sav heavy red blends & dry whites. Apparently the owners vacationed in France and decided to bring that style of wine to Virginia. I really, really wish they had more reds on the menu, which is my main complaint.
Even if this style of wine isn't your forte, there is a lot to love here; the use of nice Reidel glasses in the servings, the beautiful outdoor space, the service. You can even pre-order meals, which they get from The Wine Kitchen (a local restaurant). While some wineries have a very laid back, almost party like atmosphere, Lost Creek seems to target more of a wine-lovers crowd. 16 acres under vine, with their whites being 100% estate but their reds getting help from some local vineyards.
What I tried:
2015 Vidal: Made in a dry style in steel, citrus notes.
2012 Chardonnay: Older vintage whites are rare in NOVA, so I appreciated this one. Very mellow, not much nose but I detected lychee on my palate.
2014 Reserve Chardonnay: French Oak, which definitely came thru on the nose.
2014 Serenity: Made with Vidal, an off-dry white with .7 sugar content. Still too sweet for me though.
2014 Genesis: Right Bank-style red blend that was heavy on Merlot. I got some dark fruit, especially plumb.
2014 Provenance: Left Bank-style red blend that was Cab Sav heavy. I liked it, but not quite as much as the Genesis.
Sorry for only one picture; it was already dark by the time I remembered to snap some pictures!
