Detroit’s Best New Bars, Winter 2025 | Eater Detroit

"Paradise Valley. The name evokes Old Detroit glamor and a long legacy of style. The Vinyl Society, a stunner of a nightclub and lounge, is unabashedly chic and asks that its guests dress to impress. The opulent plush velvet, gold, and glitter decor is matched by a deep cocktail menu that blends classics like the Negroni and a dozen or more new creations from Vinyl Society staff, like the Passionate Affair, with blanco tequila, Campari, and passion fruit, or the American Requiem, with bourbon, Drambuie chai, and walnut smoke. From prosecco starters all the way through to the decadent Affogato After Dark (Bailey’s or Kahlua with espresso poured over vanilla gelato), the Vinyl Society offers dozens of drinks for any mood." - Mickey Lyons

The Hottest New Restaurants in Detroit, November 2024

"Audiophiles will appreciate this intimate cocktail bar, situated in Paradise Valley in downtown Detroit, that, according to a media release, is influenced by the venues of the early to mid-20th century that hosted jazz greats like Billie Holiday, Ellla Fitzgerald, Duke Ellington and others. The drink offerings include a vast wine list, a handful of espresso martinis, and cocktails designed by beverage director Desmond Oliver (who was the head bartender at the Shelby when it opened in 2021). To eat, expect a variety of small bites like caviar and shrimp cocktails, charcuterie boards, and dessert, such as a single strawberry coated with chocolate and dusted with gold. The center of the experience here is music and features both live performances representing diverse genres and DJ sets from emerging and and established local and nationally recognized artists. Note that reservations are recommended and a strict dress code is enforced." - Serena Maria Daniels

Yesterday my family and I went into Vinyl Society for a early birthday celebration for my mother. I'll be the first that the service, the food, and the atmosphere in this place was nothing short of amazing. Bam took good care of us when we came in. We did not have a reservation and Bam (the hostess) went out of her way to accommodate our party. Our waitress Mena was very great, she was kind to my mother and was very prompt about getting our party everything that we requested. I will certainly be back for future birthday celebrations and for food and fellowship in general! I deeply appreciate the team showing my mother, aunts, siblings, and myself such a great time by curating a welcoming ambiance.

took myself on a solo date and walked in to be seated right at the bar, didn’t catch my bartenders name but she was very sweet. this place has amazing potential, i just think they need alittle better marketing! the spicy tuna cones were amazing, but for then price maybe adding 2 more would make them worth it! the sliders were amazing, i definitely would recommend this place to friends. my only real con was it was LOUD! and not many people were inside, i heard my bartender have to ask someone to speak alittle louder and she could barely hear me as well and maybe adding some more chairs to the bar! seriously enjoyed my meal, and the space is beautiful. will be back

The food was below average. We tried the lamb chops, flat bread, and tuna cones (these were good). Drinks were costly but were good. Service was excellent! Rio was our server. She was helpful and attentive. The atmosphere was a vibe. Great music and wonderful ambience. I would recommend the chief revisit the menu options. I’m a big foodie and was disappointed.

The management is full of crap as they don’t inform their wait staff that drinks and food are not on happy hour from 5-8pm but only drinks. I went here for an event and the waitress told me everything is on happy hour from 5-8pm in terms of food except lamb chops and all drinks on the first page as well as beer and wine is on happy hour but when I got my bill that wasn’t the case. They charged me full price for everything. It was only until I contested things that they gave me a discount on my 2 drinks but not on my wines and the sliders I ordered. This is the problem with businesses and the communication given. I definitely don’t encourage anyone to come to happy hour if they charging full price for food and drinks as neither are worth the price of $18 plus from 5-8pm. Management didn’t come over to explain things and lift it to the waitress who is simply trying to do the best she can to get a tip.

Nice atmosphere for some drinks with smaller groups. The drinks were quite strong, but still tasty. Our server was very friendly and helpful with recommendations, but it took quite awhile to get our drinks. We weren't in a rush, but just thought it's worth noting in case you are. My only real negative in our experience was an unexpected 20% service fee on our bill. It wasn't labeled as gratuity, which I'd have understood if it were. We'd have tipped beyond 20% anyhow, but I'm not sure what the service fee was for, and then to add tip on top of that...your bill could add up quickly. Just something to be aware of. Otherwise, it was an enjoyable experience, and I'd visit again.

At Vinyl Society now @6:34pm. Hostess lady with white shirt and scarf. Our first time here very rude and unprofessional we didn't know every booth was reserved. Customer service is everything .Being nice and kind dont cost a thing. My last time here with me and my friends. Hospitality was terrible. Drinks very high!!! $28 for DonJulio really!!!

Stopped in for a night cap following the Usher concert. Such a beautiful atmosphere. (I love what they turned the old SFM & PV into. I love to see old spaces get revamped into new spaces) Nice service. Not too loud. I would return again for a late night cocktail 🍸 food options not too broad, but something to choose from to fill the crack.

I went to celebrate my 40th birthday with some fam and friends and from the beginning I didn’t feel welcomed. There was nobody at the front to greet you even though there was a podium. Workers kept walking past us and no acknowledgment for what seemed like at least 5mins, until one of the waitress stopped what she was doing to ask me if I had a reservation. That same person ended up being our waitress and I was happy with that. She was the most professional and helpful person we encountered. The person she sent back to the front, a lady dressed in street clothes with a white towel wrapped around her jeans (which did not follow the so called dress code they have online) She did not look professional/upscale at all. Originally we booked for 10 but only had 6 coming, I was trying to explain that to the so called hostess but she didn’t understand me or maybe couldn’t hear me but either way gave major attitude . At that point I was ready to leave the establishment but calmed down and took my seat when we were given one. Another one of my guests arrived and was given the same cold welcome by the same lady up front, and then again a lil later it happened to my sister who had actually made the reservation for me. We spent at least collectively a total of 300 plus. Not to mention the hostess came over to our table at one point and took the two menus we had without even asking if we were finished. Just snatched them up and gave them to someone else’s table. Again another thing that made us feel unwelcome in the establishment. 15 minutes away from us leaving the hostess leaned over to us and basically said we were at our 3 hour limit. The kicker was nobody seemed to be waiting for a seat and little did she know we were only a few minutes from leaving because the music choices were horrible. They played mostly slow/ old school 70’s and 80’s hits with a splash of early 2010-2024 hits. They really need to get a better set list. It was also never addressed by anyone that there was a limit on reservation seating, they need a whole customer service makeover. I will never recommend this place to anyone, high prices and bad customer service by the hostess is not worth another visit to this place. I’m really disappointed to also find out it’s black owned, I’d expect to be treated better by my own people. What a shame… do better!

Yelp
Flew in from SF to Detroit for a few days for my friend's Birthday. We had to wait an hour for table at a restaurant next door and stumbled in here for a quick drink. Upon arrival, the Vinyl Society looked extremely classy and regal. The furniture was beautiful, the art was stunning, and the vibes were top tier. Doug served us some delicious drinks as he took his time to make my friend's day special. They played a smooth hip hop list and I could've stayed there all day tbh. Doug, Jazz, and Ebony made us feel good and welcoming along with the bomb drinks . We loved it so that we returned the day after when Jazz told us about a live DJ and the nighttime atmosphere. In all, I loved this place and thanks to staff for making us feel GOOD! Take my word for it and visit this place, don't forget that Berry cream drink and lamb chop. 10/10!!! I hope that I got their names correctly. Jazz was the host, Ebony the waitress, and Doug was the bar tender. Please listen to me folks and go, I'll be back EVERY TIME that I'm back in the D!

Yelp
We had a great time at the The Vinyl Society and happened to catch them during happy hour!! We enjoyed salads, grilled lamb chops, and great cocktails, while listening to the beautiful music. I would definitely go back. Beautiful decor inside and it feels like a jazz club from the past.

Yelp
The band was nice at the The Vinyl and in my hotel room. I could heard the band from my room on Thursday night and Saturday night.

Yelp
The ambiance and decor here is super cute, and the drinks are fun and fancy. However, on a Thursday after work, it was completely empty - I wonder if it's more of a late night spot? Our server was great, the music is super vibey, and we had a nice time chatting over cocktails and dessert, but it felt a little dead. We would have had dinner, but the menu is kind of odd - snacks and desserts, really. I will say that the almond cake was amazing - perfectly light and moist, very good. My cocktail - something spicy that was set aflame - was delicious and perfect. Pricy though. I think $18 or something, and many of the cocktails were $20 or more. I'm not sure it's worth all that. This does seem like a great venue for a party and it has the cutest VIP section, but it would take a good promoter to fill the place up. I'd return for the right event.

Yelp
Solid experience at a cool new place. Love the Detroit music-inspired Detroit. Cocktails were really good and fairly priced. My favorite was the Hot Like Fire -- spicy and delicious. Service was pretty quick for a craft cocktail place. The lighting could be a bit darker/sexier (it was quite bright for a Friday night) and, if we're being honest, I kind of expected there to be a DJ and some vinyl records spinning. Both of those feel like a bit of a missed chance to make the place even cooler.

Yelp
I'm sure this will be the new go to spot for a more mature crowd. The ambiance is beautiful, it gives any type of vibe you want. The service is great I sat at the bar and Mary was the bartender who interacted with our group. She makes amazing drinks and if you're a fan of an espresso martini she's your go to. The Caesar salad is phenomenal, I wish they wouldn't put the anchovies on the side but I understand. The sliders and chips were great. I enjoyed everything about my time here from the drinks to the food.

Yelp
This is a really cute spot for a girls night out ! I would suggest getting a table instead of a booth. We had a booth but the table was lower than the seating so it was a little awkward when eating. The drinks were GOOD and strong !! We did a charcuterie board and lamb chops. The food was good. We also had a GREAT waiter. Shout out to Danny ! He made our experience even greater. They also take your your coat and check it from your table. Very nice atmosphere. It wasn't busy at all for a 7:30 on a Saturday night. For parking you can park directly across the street for $20

Yelp
Cool place. Went the day after Christmas so it was a little empty. But the drinks were really good and the slider burgers were delicious!! Cool place. I can see that with a crowd it would be a good hang out! Definitely wanna check it out again

Yelp
It would be nice if they told you that you would have a massive table fee if you had more than six people. We arrived with five people, unexpectedly had one more person show up, and the next thing you it was a $180 bill for four drinks. I'm just alerting others that they could get hosed.

Yelp
What a cool place! We were greeted once we walked in. Bartender got our drink order as soon as we sat down & the cocktails tasted & looked good. Love the ambiance in this place!

Yelp
The place has potential but has a way to go to realize it. The cocktails were pretty good, but relatively small and not worth the very high price. Service was polite but a bit slow. The ambiance is a bit odd; it seems unsure whether it wants to go for exaggerated glamor or refinement and ends up being a bit of both. Might go back if things improve

Yelp
Ohhh what a night! A friend of mine invited me out for an evening in the city. He wanted to go dancing and made reservations at Detroit Vinyl Society. I'd been here during the day before when they first opened up. Let me tell you the night scene takes on.an entirely different experience. They offer small plates so we ordered a few things. He got the sliders, flatbread pizza and I ordered the lamb chops. OMG...the lamb chops were fantastic! I didn't want to share! lol The cocktails were pretty good. I ended up having UP All Night, their version of the expresso martini and quite a few glasses of bubbly. The Dj started around 9pm. What a great DJ! He was spinning some old school hip hop, which was such a vibe! Let me just say that if you truly want to see the scene in the city, The Vinyl Society is the place to be late at night. We danced for hours, closed the place.....and I'm going to pay for it today but what a time we had! Detroit showed up!!!! I'm considering having a little birthday get together here! Check it out for sure. Arrive a little early for a seat because this place gets packed and they'll lock the doors.

Yelp
Newer cocktail bar in downtown Detroit walkable distance from Comerica Park or Greektown. The menu is split between wine and cocktails. The bar seems to have a nice collection of house made syrups and I enjoyed a gin cocktail. I was expecting vinyl records being played due to the name of the business. However, that is not the case.

Yelp
Love this place. Mary, the bartender was very pleasant and made the best drinks!!! I heard the lamb chops are awesome.

Yelp
Came here with a group of friends. The host was delightful and very friendly. The waitress unfortunately was not. She seemed to be on some kind of substance. After taking a friend's drink she kept refusing to bring it to him . The sassy and rude bartender came over pretending to not understand if what drink he wanted ( he ordered a Manhattan). He then continued to be rude and combative. The Manager i believe Oliver saw this and stood in the corner never coming over. I had to get up and find him. The absolute worse experience. It almost ruined our night. Thank God we went to Standby and enjoyed the rest of the night. Besides the bizarre staff the drinks were terrible. The flatbread and the host were the best thing. I would never step food in the place again.

Yelp
Wonderful venue, my guest and I both complemented the staff on hosting such a beautiful event. The seating and ambience was stellar, and enough to take your breath away. Very professional environment and great for networking and indulging with like minded individuals. The drinks were crafted well at excellent happy hour prices, we were shocked at the bill! I will be sure to return on my birthday and happy hour again after work. The host told me it was Wednesday thru Friday 5-7!

Yelp
Me and my boyfriend were invited to come to this bar this past weekend by a friend who frequents there. We had a great time it was such a vibe. The only thing I have to complain about is the manager and his weird behavior. After sitting at the bar for a couple minutes and getting a drink, we went to go sit down after sitting down for maybe 20 minutes mind you he was walking back-and-forth kept bumping our table He then proceeds to tell us that we cannot sit there, because the seats are reserved for a pastor, so we proceed to get back up and stand at the bar Mind you now he is frantically walking back-and-forth behind us on multiple occasions after being there for another hour and 30 minutes mind you we left and got food and came Nobody was ever sitting in that section also confirmed by a friend who invited us there nobody was ever sat in that section. come to find out you don't need reservations or you can't reserve seats there so I just want to know what the managers problem was or if he was just racist because his behavior says so because why did you target us and nobody else? Just a Weirdo

Yelp
We had a party of four celebrating my birthday last weekend 1/11 and had an amazing time. Our waitress (Mary) was attentive, personable, and offered great recommendations. They are extremely lucky to have such a great service person. Smiled the whole time. The bartender made great drinks and if it didn't meet your taste buds they offered to pivot on something different. HIGHLY RECOMMEND giving this place a shot! Cheers!
