"A family of great art collectors—the Marquesses of Hertford and Sir Richard Wallace—accumulated art by some of the world's most renowned artists of the 14th to the 19th centuries. Work by Titian, Rembrandt, Rubens, Fragonard, and Watteau is all displayed in their former home. Major pluses: Admission is free and the cafe is stunning. "

The service is indeed poor. Dirty pot. Be prepared to wait a long time to be served, served the wrong food, wrong bill, you ask for help and be totally ignored. I am glad to be here alone, no way to come with a guest or for business. Beautifully airy on sunny days but it can get loud even before the lunch time starts. Ofc, overpriced. Plenty of good cafes in the area eg Arome.

We went with a baby about to sleep in a push chair (12:45pm 9th March 2025)The women at the entrance (wore black jacket) offered us a table with very small space around it - with a very arrogant manner. She basically said you can take this table or get out and que. The hospitality wasn’t great and food was over priced for what they were. It’s very shame because all other staffs at the Wallace Collection were very friendly and lovely.

The food was lovely, I had a chicken terrine - it had nice texture, taste was pheasant too. The service was very good. The atmosphere was excellent - a bit hot under the glass roof. Bear in mind menu in a cafe and restaurant are 1 different things and don't overlap..

Beautiful setting, average (to mediocre) afternoon tea. 🫖 went for afternoon tea for a friends birthday. Staff was kind but a bit scattered and not very attentive. The actual food was pretty bad- I found the cheese and chutney sandwich inedible, as well as a food portion of the desserts and they were overly/sickly sweet. I couldn’t eat all of it because it started making me feel sick, and I left a bit hungry. For around £50 (without bubbles), I don’t think this is a great deal. However the setting is beautiful!

Lucky me ! I know there’s many negative reviews. My experience was totally different, think it may depends on the timing. I visited on Nov 28 at around 11:00am ordered cream tea set. There’s only a few tables of customers. But after 12:00pm, it’s full and crowded. To be honest, the scone size is bit smaller but tastes good, warm, crispy outside and soft inside. Clotted cream not creamy enough. Earl grey tea is good. The most important thing : my server Inna is wonderful, very attentive, efficient and cheerful ( actually all the staff here I met on that day is very nice and helpful). For the price 8.95£ set in such beautiful place with the best service, it’s much reasonable then cafes in central London. Amazing place to gather with friends in the morning. P.S: closed at 5:30pm same time as the museum. The museum is great and free of charge.

Remember you are in London, with London prices. The service was good, table service. Only wanted a light bite, so had a cream tea. This consisted of 2 small scones, clotted cream and any hot drink on the menu. I did not feel rushed and enjoyed a relaxing break whilst visiting the museum and accompanying exhibition. The surprise was a 12.5% service charge. I'm not against a serving charge, just the way it was applied with no choice. This addition could make it clearer. Would have no hesitation to visit again.

£9 incl. service charge for an almond croissant!!!! Plus they couldn't split the bill. Breakfast tea pleasant. Coffee OK. Restaurant almost empty so service was good. Cost of croissant, which we didn't find out about until paying the bill, spoilt the occasion; cost caused embarrassment for one of our party.

Google
Disappointed. For a place so stunning the restaurant/cafe services were ridiculous. Went on a Saturday around 2:30pm so the busyness was expected however the place seems extremely understaffed. After waiting 10 minutes for a table for 4 people, we got seated and already chose what we wanted from the menu while we waited to be seated. We then waited for 20 minutes for someone to come and ask what we would like and the unpleasant gentleman said “well I guess you’re ready to order then” after my mother waved him over. The cakes are decent but too over priced even for London and the tea pots are a safety risk. Although they’re cute, the handle was too hot to touch and I am very disappointed. £4 for a teabag is ridiculous. AND the waiters kept bumping against the back of our chairs harshly without apologising. Disappointed.

Yelp
The place is so aesthetic for a teatime and pictures, but the food wasn't as standout. Good but not the best tea time I've had. It's also pretty expensive for small cakes and things. The service is good. It was a fun spot for a girls visit with all the pink and prettiness and so cool to see the art collection after. Was truly ornate and beautiful.

Yelp
If I could give them zero star, I would. I made a reservation for one at 230pm. I was there at 220pm, & I was shown to the table right away. From then it has become clear that I made a wrong choice to have High Tea here. The service is minimal & very slow. The wait staff doesn't look like they welcome you. The High Tea starts at 230pm & I was the first one to be shown to the table. However guests that arrived later than I was already got the High Tea & food & mine came almost half an hour late. The tea is not even hot, & the food very mediocre. Granted the price of High Tea here is less than £50, but the quality & service is just not there. I saw someone complain about their tea or food across from me; so I wasn't the only one who has a problem with this place. All in all, stay away from this place & spend your money somewhere else !

Yelp
If you're looking for a good place to eat with a nice atmosphere, the Wallace is perfect for you. Especially for afternoon tea! You can go to their website to make a reservation for a pleasant experience. Afternoon Tea- 19.50£ per person It comes with a selection of finger sandwiches, chicken, cucumber and cream cheese, smoked salmon and egg salad. They also have a choice of vegetarian sandwiches as well. Massive scones that fill your stomach up so well, along with the fruit jam and classic clotted cream! The desserts are an assortment of some fluffy chocolate delight, a small cake sandwiched in custard, and a cute carrot cake. The choice is loose leaf tea or coffee. They have a massive amount of teas to choose from and coffee as well! The atmosphere and ambience of this place is absolutely lovely. The restaurant is designed sort of like a courtyard but the entire place is covered so rain wouldn't be an issue. Has the feel of being outside but not worrying about weather. The Wallace has a collection of art work, painting and loads of historic items. It's a great place to come to check out and then enjoy tea or a wonderful meal.

Yelp
Such a great restaurant in a wonderful museum! I booked a table for three for afternoon tea on a Sunday afternoon. After visiting the museum( which was gorgeous) we arrived 15 minutes before our booking but it was not an issue since our table was ready. The restaurant itself is in a sort of Winter garden, with light pink walls and some trees which make the atmosphere relaxing. We ordered the afternoon tea menu (£18.75) make up of : four fingers sandwiches ( pretty classic: salmon, coronation chicken, mayo egg and cucumber), with one sultana scone served with clotted cream and strawberry jam and finally some cakes (carrot cake, lemon chocolat biscuit, and a chocolate caramel macaroon). I chose the Venetian rose tea (nice black tea) The quantity worth the price, we were not disapointed at all ( no crumbs left in our plate). The finger sandwiches were pretty classic but good, the scone was soft and not too breakable; finally the cakes' selection was delicious ! I really enjoyed the carrot cake. I totally recommend this place for two reasons: the Wallace museum itself which is great and the afternoon tea which is really affordable and good !

Yelp
Service is terrible here. I had a 2:30 reservation for afternoon tea. I had to email to get it because their website had an error that wouldn't allow me to book. After I reached out again multiple times to confirm, I never received a response. Bad communication. I arrived at 2:15 and was told to wait because it wasn't 2:30 yet. Once I was seated, no one greeted me, gave me a glass of water or anything. I sat at the table for 30 minutes before anyone even came back to ask what tea I wanted. I ordered then they came back saying they didn't have that kind. At 3:05, I finally got the tea. I asked for sugar multiple times before someone brought it to me. Several other parties who came in after me were quickly seated and served before I was. The good part came another 15 minutes after that. It was basic. Scone was cold and hard. I still never got any water, when I finished I asked 3 different people for the bill before I finally received it. Then the server waited right there with card reader until I paid - funny how this was the only thing they could seem to make haste about - receiving the payment. There are way too many options in London for afternoon tea - don't come here. Location is beautiful, but that's the ONLY good part.

Yelp
Cute place, great pastries with afternoon tea, horrible service. After an hour of waiting at our table (which we had a reservation for) and going up to staff TWICE, we finally were served. Kid but decent price for afternoon tea

Yelp
***Warning*** This girl has only had high tea once at Patisserie Valerie and she thought it was great. On the tea trays the little nobs on the bottom were popped off of some of them. She didn't mind. Judge away. So, now I'll start my review. Aside from slow service, the afternoon tea I had with my husband and parents was wonderful. They were happy to provide us with vegetarian finger sandwiches instead of the usual ones with meat and the pastries and scones were truly lovely. The ambiance is also incredible because you're sitting in these really cozy outdoorsy couches under a massive skylight in the middle of the Wallace Museum. Very very nice. Afternoon tea is around 18.50 per person which is a much better deal than a lot of places. With that deal, you probably get slower service and a tea tray that has the bottom knob popped off. That was alright with us. The place was beautiful!

Yelp
Nice settings in the middle of an art collection, in the centre of town, perhaps the food is not outstanding but it's good. The high tea is good value IMO, worth it for the experience.

Yelp
a beautiful air conditioned courtyard located within a free museum. a hidden gem in a treasure trove. a romantic place for that secret tryst. having checked out their website and their menu, i was longing for their steak tartare. but alas it was not to be, the menu at the restaurant to my dismay was different. in the end, we settled for the set menu. 2 course for 19.50 and 3 for 23. limited choices and the lack of a meat option might be a turn off for some. the goat's cheese salad with beetroot and watercress was nicely put together. smooth creamy goat's cheese that was not overly pungent. crunchy, slightly bitter watercress added a nice bite. never knew beetroot came in yellow colour! together with the deep red ones, they added colour and sweetness to the salad. a touch of olive oil and vinegar completed the dish. only complain was that the watercress looked slightly yellow. the pumpkin soup was nicely creamy and truffled. the coarse goose pate was delish! not overly fatty yet spread well over the toasted rustic bread. the roasted sea bass was a real treat for the eye. nicely plated and tasted good too. crispy skin sea bass, crunchy savoy cabbage with savoury bacon, and a dollop of silky creamy mash with lobster jus to accompany. the vegetarian option was really healthy indeed! tender stem broccolis, jerusalem artichokes and roast spelt. tasted better than they looked. and definitely a high fibre diet! the artichokes were perfectly cooked and could easily have been passed off as yummy roast potatoes. roast spelt, which was an important staple in parts of Europe from the Bronze Age to medieval times, is part of the wheat family and tasted like al dente barley. the lemon tart to finish was nicely tart with a layer of crusty sweet caramelised top. a complete package and a winner in my books. the only complain i can think of is the not so comfy seats!

Yelp
After having walked around and taken in the galleries of the Wallace Collection, you find yourself in its beautiful, extremely airy courtyard, which is where the restaurant is situated. The space is immense, with tons of natural light penetrating through the glass ceiling of this over sized conservatory like area. The menu is very French, and has a dish which, I find, seems to be quite a rarity on French menus here nowadays, that is Steak Tartare. They do theirs with a periguort truffle vinaigrette, which is laid out in an unfussy manner, but most importantly fresh and well seasoned. The entrecote of beef, done medium rare, with frites along with a good dollop of bearnaise sauce was wholesome and wonderfully filling. Their desserts consisted of such sweet tooth inducing dishes as Tarte Tatin (caramelised apple with puff pastry), Tarte au Chocolat amer (bitter chocolate tart), and Creme Brulee a la vanille (vanilla cream with caramelised sugar). Very French, very calorific-ally inducing, but all mouthwateringly so.

Yelp
The service could've been better. It took them forever to serve two cakes that were already on display. But the coffee and desserts were still yum

Yelp
A lovely restaurant in the Wallace Collection museum! After two different restaurants in London gave me hard-boiled 'poached' eggs, the Wallace Restaurant finally got it right! Three times the charm. Check out the museum and leave time (and room) for a meal here. You won't be disappointed.

Andrea L.

Yelp
This is a restaurant owned by a restaurant CRITIC who should know better. Poor selection of foods and tea that was a disgrace at £19.50. You would do better in a local caff. Scone like a brick and sandwiches that had nothing in them just a little taste of what was supposed to be there. I suppose they just think that the tourists that visit will only be there once and they don't know any better. The museum is wonderful and is our local so I think they should look around for a better deal than this restaurant is giving them

Yelp
I have mixed thoughts on this restaurant which was highly rated as one of the more beautiful places to have lunch in Paris. The courtyard space is large and airy. Unfortunately, there was a large business event in the cafe area when we had lunch which made it very loud and difficult to hear. My Mother had the avocado on toast and a fresh juice and loved it! I had the salad with endive, apples, blue cheese and a mustard dressing. The salad was drenched in dressing and almost inedible. I'd recommend checking to see if any large groups are scheduled before booking a table and perhaps only going for afternoon tea.

Yelp
If you're looking for that perfect afternoon tea experience, then don't come here. If you're looking for an average food experience, with not expensive prices, in a beautiful setting, and you're not after the very best of service, then this place might be for you. If you're new to the afternoon tea experience, this this might be a good start. The museum is free, so I suppose that's a bit of a saving grace, should you be making a day of it. The food offerings were just about OK. The service was less than par. The crockery/utensils were far from the best. But if you're after a nice place to relax after visiting the Wallace Collection, then this might work for you. But don't expect perfection.

Yelp
My wife wanted to go somewhere for high tea. We received a recommendation for this place. The only reason there are two stars is because the food and tea were very good! The service is terrible... we were seated and waited about 15 minutes for our server to arrive. He told us they were busy, so we figured no problem. We ordered and then sat there for 25 minutes to receive the finger foods that came with the tea. I felt like we were an inconvenience to our server as he almost seemed to avoid even looking at our table. This seems to be a trend here as I looked at other reviews.

Yelp
YES! this place has the BEST SCONES in all of london that i've tried in my one week stay there. Very affordable and nice place for afternoon tea. Plus the wallace house is free admission so we got to walk around and look at the museum afterwards

Yelp
HORRIBLE SERVICE AND COMMUNICATION. If I could give 0 stars I would. We made a reservation for afternoon tea the day before and as we arrived we waited 20 minutes for service but no one came to serve us. I proceeded to get up and ask the desk for service only for them to tell us there was no more afternoon tea even though yesterday over the phone they mentioned we took their last afternoon tea spot. We were very disappointed since it was out last day visiting London and wanted to get the afternoon tea experience. I would not recommend this place what so ever.

Yelp
While visiting London with my family we wanted to see some of the sights in the area. One of those having been The Wallace Collection having no idea it had a restaurant inside. I wish I'd left sooner. To start off it seemed nice and the server cam quickly. He took our order and seemed to be on top of things, but soon it went down hill. He started off bringing me the wrong tea I ordered and then completely forgot my apple pie. Later on the person who was supposed to bring out our food brought another pot of tea. It was still incorrect, in fact it was the same incorrect tea the other waiter had brought me, at least the offered to correct it though. After about 10 more minutes my apple pie had still not arrived and neither had my mothers drink (the only thing she ordered). A little while after my pie arrived (my moms drink still missing), it was cold and the crust was almost impossible to break through. My father soon arrived and they quickly took his order and brought him his drink while my mom had still not received hers. She eventually did after about 20 more minutes. Finally after finishing all of our food no one came to give us the check, we only got the check once my father got up and hunted down any waiter because ours was nowhere to be found. So pretty much the service was awful, the food was not good, and their tea was unpredictable. This was one of the worst restaurant experiences I've ever had. And it is my belief that this "dressy" (and in my opinion, very snooty) restaurant judged us based off of our appearance in clothing. Everyone else seemed to have fast service, good food, and was having an all around good time. They were all also wearing very nice clothing. My mother and I however prefer to wear comfortable clothes that are considered cheap and low class. The service only got slightly better when my father arrived wearing a very 'art connoisseur' type of outfit, but even then it wasn't very pleasant.

Yelp
An "Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's" place. Care not about thy food (or price) if you love, love, love the light infused atrium-courtyard of this fabulous gem of a museum in Marylebone. I would pay for the privilege of sitting leisurely on a Sunday with a champagne cocktail, croissant, and lousy ham & Gruyère omelette. This place is absolutely beautiful in the midmorning light, even on a cloudy London day. Food is secondary when the surrounding is so lovely. There, I said it. It's not always about the food. Sometimes, it's all about the beauty of a museum restaurant with a fantastic covered courtyard. Meet your lover here. Meet your girlfriends here. Or come here alone and basked in the joy of simply being "present."

Yelp
Although officially this is simply the catering aspect of the Wallace, believe me this wonderful cafe is a destination in its own right. The food is excellent. However, in rating and reviewing this venue I cannot ignore its raison d'être: the wonderful the Wallace Collection and Hertford House its shrine. In this place, all factors combine in perfect synergy make this venue the "must see" attraction that it is!! To put this place into context, I once had lunch here followed by Tea at the RItz, and the Wallace's tea and sandwiches were indisputably superior. Needless to say, the Ritz can't compete with the other attractions of the Wallace, and of course at the Ritz you need to increase your budget by a value greater than 2.
google avatar

Yelp
One of my favorite treats is to enjoy a day looking at beautiful art and have a great lunch when I need a break in the action. The Wallace provides top-tier experiences in both categories! Entrance to the Wallace Collection is free. Simply walk around either side of the grand staircase, through the beautiful room of French paintings to the interior glass-covered courtyard, where you can enjoy the natural light all year and dine in either the cafe or the restaurant. Reservations are a good idea, since both fill quickly and diners tend to linger. The food in both venues is delectable. On my last visit to the cafe, I had a wonderful cold roasted cauliflower and charred broccoli, crisp Parma ham, cumin yoghurt dressing. My good manners kept me from licking the plate! The Peyton and Byrne-run venues are perfect for tea or a special event. I attended a wedding shower there that was attentively served.

Yelp
Not even considering the fact that the restaurant and cafe are attached to a free museum should you bother going here. The food is over priced and mediocre at best and the service is abysmal. The prices on the menu are wrong and after you order the waiter might come back and tell you that everything you ordered was double what it said on the menu...if you are lucky. The portions are very small, even my very slim vegetarian girlfriend was not served enough (and that's hard to do). Expect to pay a minimum of £45 to not even get close to satisfied. You can almost get used to the "optional" service/tip that is included basically in every restaurant in London (regardless of the size of your party) but at a place like this when they tack on an additional 12.5% just because you had the misfortune of sitting down in their establishment it really stings. Coming from California and eating out a lot, I'm used to tipping, even over tipping because people in the service industry there bust their ass to earn a good tip. Wow do I miss that after this experience.

Liza Jane J.

Yelp
As a complete surprise, my man treated me to a lovely afternoon tea. So, this will be a bit biased. I think the lovely, open venue is five star. For about 19 quid each, I didn't find the afternoon tea good value at all. The selection of desserts such as the beautifully baked scone and clotted cream were delicious, but the sandwiches, sloppily put together with crust still remaining did not impress me. As another yelper said, the service is non-existent. We were served from a broken tea caddy and one of our ramekins (bowl) was broken and chipped! This would be a definite hazard and major oversight. We weren't offered water and weren't given complete information about what was available. I would gladly pay more for a better quality high tea in such a beautiful space that made me feel like a woman of distinction in the ethereal, bright space. For the best value, I wouldn't suggest the afternoon tea option but instead just ordering a pot of tea and a scone or slice of take for under a tenner earlier in the afternoon, just to make use of your time there. I'm in need of afternoon tea recommendations now, after being so disappointed. Claridges, here I come!
google avatar

Yelp
The restaurant is situated in the picturesque inner courtyard of the Wallace collection, and is exactly the place to go for tea. The covered courtyard makes for a pleasant airy feel rain or shine, and the fare doesn't disappoint. The tea as you might expect is really just an excuse for the decadence of the food. The finger sandwiches are nice, the scones take it up a level, and the desserts will knock your socks off! The chocolate cake is literally a show stopper, we all had trouble finishing it.

Yelp
I've been to the Wallace Collection a number of different times when I used to live in the heart of the city. It's a beautiful building with a great history and an amazing set of artefacts. I've never been to the restaurant prior until a friend of mine who was visiting London suggested we go there. What a mistake. The service was literally abysmal (as one Yelper had already put it). We ordered two Cornish Cream Teas (which were the ones with sandwiches) but the waiter who took our order said that "the system" said it was only cream teas (the ones with scones). Being in IT, it's becoming increasingly popular to blame the computer, but not when you, sir, were the one who took our order. The timeline was also a little ridiculous. We ordered, and only 10 minutes later did the teas arrive. 20 minutes after the teas arrived, did we have to chase them for our food, which appeared literally 2 minutes after they went to "check" why it had been forgotten. The sandwiches looked lifeless and the scones a little, well, crunchy. Slicing open the scones, you could see (whilst I'm no Paul Hollywood) that they were well underdone with a highly crusty exterior. I was appalled, spoke to the manager, and they returned the rather souless food to the kitchen. The only thing that has redeemed them from 1* to 2* is the fact that we were deeply apologetic, gave us the teas with compliments and we left relatively unscathed. Judging by the set of reviews here, it really seems like they've let themselves go here. I hope they start to really take notice.

Eleanor K.

Yelp
Food was really really good but the service was so abysmal it's not even worth it. Much more expensive than I expected (a half bottle of wine for 25£) and the waiters acted like they forgot we existed.

Zee K.

Yelp
Tea was disappointing. scones were heavy and served cold. Sandwiches were also stale. Pastries were so so. Giving one extra star for the excellent Indian server we had.

Yelp
Fantastic location, converted courtyard at the wonderful Wallace collection, food OK. However, the management has allowed this place to take the inevitable London slide down the pole of tired lazy service and management. No Wi-Fi. Its unforgivable that expensive rest stops like this in London do not have fast free Wi-Fi. More Yelp reviewers should point out Wi-Fi failures and successes!

Yelp
Came here for lunch, before seeing the wonderful Wallace Collection. The wonderful setting on a dull winter's day was very special indeed. The orangery or atrium with the huge glass roof made you forget it was January. The food, though not cheap was very good. My fish melted in the mouth an dmy friend had a chicken dish which she said was gorgeous. Service was good with pleasant staff. A great place I imagine , to linger if one has the time, which I did not that day. Another day I hope.....

Nina D.

Yelp
Came here for afternoon tea - mistake. Pales in comparison by far to most of the teas I've had - especially for the price! The sandwiches were dry, the tea was basic. Scones were good, desserts fairly bad! The service was astonishingly bad. The atrium is kind of cool but not as cute as other places. Would not recommend!

Michael S.

Yelp
Service is absolutley terrible. Staff members not just inattentive but actively rude.

Yelp
as a california girl at my roots i love sunlight. as a san franciscan, im used to just accepting natural light as i can get it, even if its not exactly "Sunlight." here in London we get used to various shades of gray. and rain. and wind. oy the elements. so to find a nice place, with food and tea and LIGHT, (not to mention being surrounded by amazing art) is freaking amazing. you walk through the museum and then into this classically beautiful atrium. you are given the option of the simple and easy cafe, or the slightly more put together restaurant. the service is not a high point. example: the other day i went for lunch with a time constraint of 1 hour and 15 min. that should have been enough time for mains and puddings. nope. no check back from the waiter, either. there were just some stupid little things that wernt good. like the bread was just in this metal basket with no napkin or anything, while the table next to us did. it just looked a bit sad with out. (i know, i know. its a freaking napkin. but my aunt and i just looked at eachother when he plopped the basket down, eyebrows raised.) i had duck with blood orange jus and chese polenta. omg overcooked, but the sauce was lovely. my aunt had chicken stuffed with mascapone and carb with some kind of amazing sauce and chive mash. hers was amazing, although also a bit overcooked and way over seasoned. im an ex-chef - thus have a tendency to be a bit gung ho about seasoning (read: i love salt), but i finished her plate for her, and my tongue was burned from the salt. we waved around the dessert menus for a while after and finally just gave up. paid and left. this was my 3rd time. and its never spot on. but its good enough most of the time.

Yelp
Great for afternoon tea, and very affordable! The service was good and the scone was fresh. After wandering the Wallace, this is a good way to cool down or kill time.

Yelp
Definitely my favorite tearoom I have been to so far, the Wallace Collection Restaurant provides a beautiful atmosphere for a afternoon tea. I have been here three times now and each time have had a delicious and pleasant experience. I usually get the Cornish tea: a pot of English breakfast tea, four finger sandwiches, and a scone with clotted cream and jam. The tea here is some of the best I have had as well, it is really strong and flavorful and the scones and clotted cream are melt in your mouth good. The Wallace Collection Restaurant is in an old mansion and is simply lovely. The Rococo style of the house is transferred into the tearoom, with its use of trees, plants, urns, statues, and exquisite wrought iron benches and chairs. Make sure to take a walk through the museum before or after your visit, it is gorgeous. The Restaurant also serves lunch foods including oysters, quiche and various salads, the perfect light fare to sustain your energy for Bond Street shopping.

Yelp
This place used to offer a very good vegetarian menu that was among the best in London. Unfortunately, they don't do so anymore. They do have some vegetarian options in the prix-fixe menu, but they are more limited. Service can be slow, but the food is usually good. Probably the best feature of this place is the setting.

Yelp
Tried to wangle a shag from some old trollope on an internet date here yesterday. In my own useless fumbling way. Thought a schmansy meal might do the trick. It didn't. I don't like culinary fakery and gourmet buffoonery. All the stage management, the pompous cliche-ridden menus, the inflated prices and meagre portions. I chose Wallace because I wanted to verify whether my suspicions were correct and I like the atrium. They weren't busy, so the maitresse d' led Prune and I to a nice four seater. Service was disturbingly immediate: did we want still or sparkling (for £5.75 a bottle)? I had carpaccio of sea bass to start. It looked suspect as soon as it arrived. Fish looked old, haggard, curled up raddiccio leaves. I expected a better taste but the salsa wasn't just misjudged, it was very sour as if one of the ingredients was off. Beef onglet to follow could have been any manner of animal meat. It was undercooked but had been left to sit on a hot plate so had a very tough consistency. It was also cold as I chewed and fought and chewed my way through it. Served with abouut 8 thick cut chips arranged into a Jenga -like shape. Prune had summer vegetables for main and looked disappointed although this could have admittedly been due to me. I didn't complain because I still hadn't written off the possibility of intercourse, and I thought getting hot under the collar might prejudice any chance I had, although god knows where it would have taken place as I had no intention of going to Wanstead and I live with my Mother, bless her. When I got home not so long after I immediately had two pieces of toast I was so hungry. What can restore my faith in moyenne-cuisine and middle-aged women?

Yelp
Not really impressed. It's a good place for a break after touring the museum and the space is lovely. Desserts were great. The quiche was heavy/greasy (although, that's fairly common for a quiche). The foie gras was funny-- they gave a lot of it but we're very stingy with the bread. Our server was nice but busy, often absent-minded and not very fast. It was fairly pricey for what it was. That being said, it's a nice room and they mean well.

Yelp
Had a wonderful lunch here today. Not cheap but very high quality food and excellent service. If I had read the other reviews I might not have come, but we had excellent starters and main courses of fish which were perfectly cooked. Oh, yes, and don't miss the collection as well.

Yelp
Lovely setting and good food. Our server really went above and beyond the call of duty. I had some sort of incredible cake for dessert.
