The 38 Best Pittsburgh Restaurants | Eater DC

"The Warren is always there to fill our cravings after concerts, performances, and sporting events with a kitchen that stays open until midnight (a rare find in a town where it’s hard to get a good bite after 10 p.m.) and a bar open nightly till 2 a.m. You’ll find a selection of well-made, globally influenced pub grub as well as fresh fish and sushi dishes from business partners Penn Ave. Fish Co. The terrific bartenders seamlessly straddle high-volume and more elaborate cocktail styles and offer terrific beer and wine lists. The new sidebar, E.T.A. is a Japanese-style standing bar with an ace highball and cocktail list; the vinyl record playlist offers a significantly more chill atmosphere than its raucous neighbor." - Melissa McCart

The 38 Best Pittsburgh Restaurants - Eater

"The Warren offers a casual environment with handcrafted cocktails alongside shared plates, bowls, and sandwiches that lean pan-Asian. Cocktail enthusiast Spencer Warren, who previously opened Embury in the Strip District’s Firehouse Lounge, landed this gem in the heart of the cultural district in 2018. Patrons have flocked to the bar ever since for speakeasy vibes, made-to-order sushi, and Penn Cove Bottle Shop, the restaurant’s outlet for wine and beer next door." - Briana L White

Google
The warren is a shining star in Pittsburgh. We went after a recommendation, and immediately went the next day again. First off, it is 100% true they have the best old fashioned in the nation, as stated by the WSJ. Cocktails, sliders, sushi, and flatbreads. That's what they got at the Warren, and they it all so deliciously well! We are so thankful we went, and everyone we referred to go there, also had an awesome experience as well! If you are at an event at the Heinz Hall, it is an easy walk to the Warren!

Justin Melt

Google
Couldn't believe the menu in that place. Had so much variety to choose from. I settled for some sushi that night. The sushi was satisfying. Had a few drinks but have forgotten the names because I was enjoying myself so much.

Google
Heard about The Warren when looking up places with good cocktails and whiskey. The barrel aged Last Word was fantastic and the whiskey list was incredible with very reasonable prices compared to what I normally see. If I wasn't just visiting from out of town, I could see myself getting a pour or 2 pretty regularly from here.

Google
The atmosphere of this restaurant is very confusing. It doesn’t seem as if they really know what direction they going for. However, the food was really good, and the service was fantastic. I appreciated the hospitality despite how busy the restaurant was. We never went without anything during our meal, and were treated kindly throughout. It really made up for the setting

Google
Really awesome whiskey selection. Food is also great, especially sushi and apps. Bartenders are cool dudes. Ambiance is nice but does get pretty loud. One thing I would not recommend is the chicken katsu sandwich, it's pretty under seasoned. Also the service/experience at the bar is better than the tables, especially the outdoor ones.

Google
Came to this gem of a bar after reading about their Old Fashioned in the Wall Street Journal, and it did not disappoint! The drinks were phenomenal and reasonably priced—definitely worth the hype. Mike, the bartender, was fantastic, making sure everything was on point. I also had the sushi, and it was unexpectedly delicious for a spot like this. The crowd was lively, with new faces showing up as the night went on, giving the place a fun and welcoming vibe. Highly recommend this place if you're in the area!

Google
A very casual vibe, sort of a mash up bar and diner, with an excellent, wide variety drink and food menu with lots of sushi options in addition to American classics. An unexpectedly cozy and comfortable place downtown. We enjoyed the sushi and the flatbread. And gotta love a bar with very fizzy soda for cocktails, they have a special Japanese soda machine. Recommend for a laid back meal.

Google
Great cocktail list. So many food choices, and all delish. The best music playlist ever! 😁

Yelp
We've been to The Warren a handful of times now and never been disappointed. For a bar, they have great sushi. The other food and cocktails have also always been great. They do not take reservations and seating can be limited. They have some covered seating outside, weather permitting. Go early to grab a seat at the bar. Perfect place to grab drinks and a bite to eat before a show downtown. The servers have always been great and the service is fast and friendly. Highly recommend!

Yelp
We stopped in on a Thursday night before a show at the Benedum and it's super convenient that it's right next door. We found two spots at the bar and were able to order two drinks each and an order of mini corn dogs in about an hour or so. The inside was full of people going to the show. The drinks were reasonably priced and pretty good. The corn dogs were good but a bit on the cold side on the inside which wasn't a big deal since they were clearly previously cooked through.

Yelp
If you live in Pittsburgh this place isn't a secret but it feels like it when you first walk in. Drinks are always amazing, the food is great. And the people here are even better than that. The vibe is perfect. Very clean and well maintained inside. I usually get sushi of some kind. Have had the pizza here before. Very good. Their whisky selection is excellent. All the bartenders are good. Very partial to Bartender Mike's Sazerac.

Yelp
Stopped in for an early dinner on a Sunday afternoon. Corner bar, seemed fairly busy, as the Pirates had finished up shortly before we arrived and Duquesne students just finished graduating, but we were able to find a seat immediately. Waitress brought us water right away, and gave us time to scan the QR codes to look at the menus. Bar was playing 80s and 90s and early 2000s rock the whole time and the crowd was digging it, myself included. We ordered a burger and chicken sandwich, and a simple Modelo. I was a bit surprised that the beer came in a can, but it worked just fine-it is a bar, after all. Food came out after a short wait and everything was good-seems like a solid spot and would surely return in the future.

Yelp
Literally my favorite bar in Pittsburgh. I've lived in Pitt for 18 months and coming from NYC, the bar scene has been extremely disappointing here. The Warren is the only place that satisfies my late night bar needs. There's always a decent amount of people at the bar no matter what day of the week. And unlike other bars in Pittsburgh, they play more than just the Steelers games. One of my favorite things about this place is their cocktail and food menu. Pretty difficult to find a place that serves food as late as them on a Tuesday night. And the menu is so eccentric. Everything from the sushi to the burgers are delicious. The cocktail menu is constantly changing and is well priced. Haven't had a bad cocktail here. Service here is always fantastic. All the bartenders are super nice and attentive. I like going to bars by myself and the environment they create makes this very welcoming. If you're looking for a place to have a drink after a hockey game or a concert, there's no other choice

Yelp
We walked here from our hotel. Pretty crowded. Michael was a fantastic bartender. Background music was great. We weren't too hungry but the sushi and wings our neighbors got looked great. We will definitely go back. We met some nice people and it had a great vibe. Only negative was bathroom closest to the exit. (There are two). It was super nasty. Like someone from The Boyz had just used it. The other bathroom was much better. Not flooded and had a urinal and toilet.

Yelp
Perfection. We love a good dive bar with something other than just burgers and The Warren absolutely delivered. Awesome food served late, great cocktails and perfect casual vibes.

Yelp
Such an amazing fun vibe at this bar. The bartender was super friendly, and the music was awesome!! I don't recommend ordering a martini, but the old fashioned was good. We had the crab dip which looked good but had imitation crab. The beef and cheddar was not bad and came with yummy sweet potato tots. Next time, I would order some greasy bar food. Don't recommend seafood there, but everything else about the bar was great!!
google avatar

Yelp
Great place! One of the few open late (2am) major plus! Excellent drinks and cocktails. The food looked great too, but we only had drinks.. Service is flawless. If anything inside booths are a bit uncomfortable or restrained ( bumping knees, lol). But outside seating or inside standing is great. This is a small, cozy, welcoming bar with great music and a guaranteed good time.

Yelp
This was 5 stars for what it was. We immediately were greeted, the guy at the door was nice and honest (food is decent for late night when you want to sit down). The place was hoppin but we managed a booth inbetween their outside and inside portion. Our server was very attentive and super sweet. We did a local beer and a cocktail. Both good portions and ice cold. We started with the gyoza appetizer, it was good and hot but they drizzled the sauce on top instead of putting on the side which was fine but they could have used a little more. We split the cheesesteak and the pepperoni flatbread pizza for dinner. The pizza was super hot and cheesy and a huge portion. The cheesesteak was also a huge portion and admittedly quite tasty. Would this be my first choice for dinner earlier in the evening, no. However it was after 10, most places were closed and this perfectly fit what we needed. Most people were out in groups or dates drinking and the prices were good on all the drinks. A few people peered over to see what our food looked like and started ordering, so I decided that was prob a good thing.

Yelp
Real talk: I went on a date here with a funny, witty, beautiful person...we talked for hours and never got bored, it was intoxicating. I'm not tryna brag, I'm just tryna keep it real. It's pretty much impossible for me to be unbiased in reviewing this local watering hole. This place is maybe the fanciest you can go and still call yourself a "dive bar". While it does have cheap 'n crispy brews like IC Light...it also has delightfully bougie cocktails, including my favorite cocktail of all time: penicillin. Of which I drank many! The bar was rowdy and bustlin' but the drinks just kept comin'. It was light when I stepped in here, and dark when I came out. I hope you have half as good of a time as I had here, dear reader.

Yelp
This place was fun. This was close to our hotel and recommended by a friend. I loved everything I ordered. My drink was delicious and I hadn't seen it anywhere else. The crab rangoon dip was so good, also a nice spin on my favorite Asian appetizer. I also got a salad which was huge. It had French fries on it which I had never tried before. I'd definitely order it again. We had average service wait time, but our waitress was super nice.
google avatar

Morgan H.

Yelp
Came here around 7:15ish with a total party of four and we were able to get a booth for some pre dinner drinks. The drinks were solid and wish we could've stayed longer, but we had a reservation to catch! Only concern was that the service was a little slow and after our first round, it was hard grabbing the attention of a waitress to start our second.
google avatar

Yelp
This was my first time at The Warren Bar and Burrow. I've walked past them a number of times and always just thought they were a bar. I recently heard they have really good sushi so I obviously had to give them a try! They are pretty small and don't take reservations so it can be tricky to find a seat. I would recommend having a back up plan if you get there and there's no room. We ordered Dirty Martini and Vitamin Bee cocktail, Cheese Fries, and Avocado Roll. The dirty martini was delicious! They put so much olive juice in it :) The cheese fries were spectacular!! They used smoked gouda cheese and wow that was a game changer. All cheese fries should be made with gouda. The avocado roll was so yummy, the rice tasted so clean idk how to describe it hahaha. I would definitely get food here again. I would probably just do takeout though because the seating situation stressed me out. Also the inside just looks like a normal bar.

Yelp
Awesome cocktails-had the spritz sparkly citrus-cocktail main drink in Swiss when I was there in Oct 23, bar food too & sushi, hello? Had the Benny Roll and Eel Maki Roll they were ok. Friends ordered other bat foods and cocktails and a bottle of wine made our dive amazing! Staff was friendly, bar vibe ambiance with lots of young hip & cool mix! Nice dive for sure!
google avatar

Jackie B.

Yelp
This is one of my go-to spots when I'm downtown near the cultural district. I just love the variety of food and cocktails that they offer, there's really something for everyone. The vibe inside is great and I really enjoy the outdoor seating on a warm night. Service is also pretty quick even on a busy night!
google avatar

Julia B.

Yelp
Warren remains a cool spot for after dinner cocktails if you find yourself downtown for an evening! We lucked out being able to get a table right away (it's not a large space), and our waitress was quickly with us. My cocktail (cosmic love) was yummy, albeit nothing special. My only complaint is that the menu doesn't say what liquor base is actually used in nearly any of the cocktails, so you can't really make a drink choice until the waiter is at your table & you can ask questions. I think this effort to be cool actually works against the location. I wish they put a little more effort into the ambiance to fit the vibe of the menu - the bar is pretty plain. It will remain on my list of good cocktail bars, though! Food: N/A Drinks: B Service: B Ambiance: C

Yelp
We had a huge group come in for a friend's birthday and Jenna was so amazing and helped us the whole time!!! She was patient and split checks and overall awesome. Food was awesome and drinks were great too. Definitely recommend this spot for a chill drink and bite.
google avatar

Valerie C.

Yelp
I've only gotten sushi takeout multiple times from The Warren, and loved every bite of it! Initially, I thought the menu combinations were random, but don't let that sway you from trying their food! The sushi is so fresh, delicious and a decent portion for the price! I typically call the restaurant to order and they've been speedy and have my food ready for pick up as soon as I come. Can't wait to try the restaurant in person!
google avatar

Ernesto O.

Yelp
The perfect place to celebrate a birthday! the vibes and music are good, the food and drinks are great, and our server Jenna was beyond amazing! Everything came out super fast despite it being busy. We had the best time here! They really went above and beyond for us and I can't thank them enough! Definitely stop by this place. You'll have a good time no doubt.
google avatar

Jess N.

Yelp
Can't stop and won't stop going to the Warren. Some of the BEST sushi in Pittsburgh along with everything else they have. Amazing mixologists and everyone is always smiling. How can't you? It's the Warren! Thanks for existing with one of the best vibes around!
google avatar

Liz B.

Yelp
My friends and I sat outside at this seat yourself location and I got the sunshine roll and Boston roll. They were good rolls but the rice to filling ratio was a little off as I felt like they had too much rice!
google avatar

Libby W.

Yelp
My bf and I were visiting some fam in Pittsburgh this past weekend and stopped in here before a Pirates game. It's conveniently located a short walk from the stadiums. Very chill environment - we were warmly welcomed even though I was decked out in the opposing team's gear. Great food, strong drinks, and amazing service from bartender Mike. I only got a photo of the shrimp tacos, but we also tried the Cubano egg rolls (SO GOOD!!). Looking forward to returning next time we're in town!
google avatar

Tonya J.

Yelp
Server Angela was an absolute rockstar! Thank you! We came and the food, vibe and drinks were exactly what we needed to close out our downtown late night tour! We stopped in close to kitchen closing time and they were super accommodating and allowed us to place our orders and the food was not bad. We ordered an array of a few food and drink options that satisfied the late night bite. We selected seats near the inside but near the street on a Friday night and had great conversation and enjoyed the music and night breeze. We ordered wings, crab dip, fries, tots and drinks.
google avatar

Peggy S.

Yelp
Not what I expected based on reviews; might be better at night. I loved the vibe of the place once I got there. It is something like dive bar meets 80s pre-grunge. Music selection: Sledgehammer, Eminent Front, Higher Love - essentially, I fit in great with my Jean jacket and black jeans I went here for lunch on weekday while I was walking around town. They were fairly empty. Iced Irish coffee: way bigger than I anticipated, very bitter, on the stiff side. I did not drink most of it. Pretty Girl Roll: large blob of spicy mayo in top. Lots of salmon, thinly sliced avocado. Lots of rice. Veggie Maki Roll: Lots of rice. No pickled veggies but good texture combos. They do have gluten-free soy sauce, just ask for it! Next time: I'll try coming at night for drinks.
google avatar

Shelby P.

Yelp
Super interesting menu that was well executed. Loved trying every dish as it has tons of flavor and unique flavor specifically he holiday pizza. Absolutely delicious! It really tasted like Christmas Would love to come back and try the sushi. Great service the entire time and outdoor area has heat lamps keeping it warm.
google avatar

Johann M.

Yelp
This time I had the chance to come back to this restaurant and even though my first experience was better, this time was pleasant. The drinks are different, they taste good but I think had change in flavor in the last 2 years. This time we had sushi and nigiri, they were actually pretty good, flavorful and well presented. The attention has decline for sure. But you can give it a try if you are spending a weekend in Pittsburg.

Heather O.

Yelp
Ok so this is our go to spot for drinks and pot stickers The pot stickers were served cold tonite - so disappointing- 2nd order out and the pork is cold as ice- really need to get it together Coke is flat out of a can and was sitting annd flat Not what is expected of this establishment- hoping this is a fluke and itnis just bad timing Out of 3 bourbons we picked and counting- hoping this all gets worked out as the girls are frustrated with all the items they are 86'ing Ordered the tater tots 35 mins and still none and the place is slow- come on you gotta do better Got the check and the tots were not even ordered - REAlLY So much for our go-to date night spot and after games/concerts so disappointed

Marlene D.

Yelp
Favorite place for dinner before the Show, ALWAYS excellent food, service and they are mindful of our timing! Everything we have had here is excellent. All of the service has been PHENOMENAL! We had the cutest waitress tonight. Love the seating, its great whether sit outside or the back room. Highly recommend the sushi.
google avatar

Cianah H.

Yelp
Such a great place to come for some drinks and entertainment! Our server Greg was extremely kind and very helpful. We also got to talk to Spencer and Cortney, who I believe are the co owners. They were just as awesome! They made sure we felt safe and welcomed here! I seriously can't wait to be back in Pittsburgh to come here again!
google avatar

Abigail g.

Yelp
So much that could be said but to wrap it up - all the perks of a high end bar with the comfort of a dive bar All the food they service is good! Sushi was worth ordering. Pao buns, a yes. You won't have any regrets eating here. Shoutout Scotty for being a great bartender and having a solid staff with you. Full selection of whiskey for those that enjoy it! All juice was pressed by them. Loved it in my tomato juice & vodka

Christopher B.

Yelp
I loved the vibe. The sushi was great and the cocktails were fantastic. Mike is an awesome bartender. Definitely made third best Negoni I ever had, and the absolute best Fred's Old fashioned.
google avatar

Mariela B.

Yelp
Time to do another tipsy yelp review. It's the first time and I'm just getting started. I still know my name and I'm not trying to show people how great my balance is. Bartender Scott recommended Rubus Mint to be, and I'm glad he did. It's refreshing and fruity. So I'm enjoying it without it seeing up my mouth. It has citrus, eucalyptus, mint, caramel, raspberry, and mint. It's mint to get you started for the night. Jenna was also kind enough to keep me well hydrated with h20. But in case you were wondering, while I am a light weight, this drink was strong enough for me and I already feel buzzed. On to the next stop!
google avatar

Carrie T.

Yelp
I'm not really sure how this place received 4 stars. I ordered shrimp tacos and they were cold, tasteless and unappealing to the eye. My tortilla wasn't heated up at all and tore as soon as I took a bite. The flavors were off. The shrimp was cold, not lukewarm but cold. No cilantro or dressing on the slaw. My table mates had sandwiches that were lackluster as well. The meals took forever to come to the table too. Don't waste your money.
google avatar

Raquel Lynn H.

Yelp
Came for late night dinner and average but overpriced. Never saw the bill except for the total and felt like it was more than was spent.
google avatar

Matthew U.

Yelp
After a night out with coworkers this is where we decided to end our night. I honestly had no idea that this place existed because I haven't been downtown in a long time. I need to get out and explore more of the city, but I need to make time for that as well. Right in the Cultural District, and right next to Heinz Hall. I bet this is a great place to get a drink after a show. With the expansion of dining on the streets this spot probably even packs a punch for bites to eat. Seating is somewhat abundant, and there are bunch of seating options to choose from. Drink menu is definitely a nice mix of drink specials. Some unique to this spot and some that are kind of old reliables for any bar. The service here was top notch and they were able to supply us with everything we needed throughout the night. They were able to make suggestions on drinks based on our likes and they weren't wrong on their suggestions.

Brad J.

Yelp
Wow this place rules. Jenna our server was amazing. Truly great. We had sushi and it was excellent. Would certainly come back.
google avatar

Bob L.

Yelp
Always excellent fresh sushi and fish items from their menu. I've always enjoyed all of their food including sandwiches, and salads, such as the salad with blackened salmon, which I enjoyed the other evening.
google avatar

Kara B.

Yelp
Food was great... like really great! Service was bad... like really bad! I get it, places are understaffed, I am aware! And our server, Lars, was only one of two servers in this teeny tiny place... but he was avoiding my table like we had the plague! The tables on both sides of us however, had way better service! I don't get it! Did someone wrote IGNORE on my forehead without me knowing?!?! I had to WAVE my credit card in the air to try to get my check! IT DIDN'T WORK! After the 5th time he walked by the table without stopping, I was able to flag him down for the check. Geez, talk about a hassle. I'm not writing the Warren off, because the food was very very good... just won't be going back any time soon.
google avatar

Olivia O.

Yelp
Stopped her for some drinks and sushi. The drinks came out fast, the bartender was quick and friendly. Our waitress was friendly and fast. The food was delicious and came out quicker than we could have thought. The sushi was so fresh!! Wish we would have tried this place sooner. We plan on coming back often!!

Lee Z.

Yelp
Fast service Unique menu and delicious. A little loud for me but it was a game day. Will definitely go again when in town.
google avatar

George M.

Yelp
Excellent little neighborhood bar next to the Benedum center. Inexpensive drinks and a welcoming environment for post Bendeum show lurkers and random city dweller lurkers as well! They used to live play awesome indie rock most nights .. they are still above average with their musical selections but a small step back... (at least do me - I can be a bit snobbish -lol)
google avatar

Kaylee L.

Yelp
I can't say enough about this place. Every time I go I feel like I'm both on my couch with friends and at a fancy cocktail bar. The staff is always so friendly, welcoming, honest, and truly make the experience. Tonight I went out with an old friend who was visiting Pittsburgh and loves a good cocktail. We sat out on the screened in patio because it was warm enough at happy hour time. We ordered the Chokin mule and an old fashion for drinks. The mule was a spicy twist on the classic with a bitter finish. My friend downed her old fashion quickly to get another. I'm always impressed with the sushi but went for a salmon sandwich tonight. Such great ambiance, drinks and food. Will be back soon!
google avatar

Cara B.

Yelp
Busy place on a Saturday night and rightfully so! Our waitress was phenomenal and made sure to always check up on us throughout the night. Drinks were great and the sushi was good for bar food. This place is seat yourself though, which can make it difficult to find open tables amongst the crowd.
google avatar

Vicky F.

Yelp
Always busy! Really nice bartenders! Sushi is very confusing as well. Chicken wing the other day were good. It's a bourbon spot I would say. Very loud very busy if you are looking for a late night spot that's the right spot !
google avatar

J E.

Yelp
I stopped in mid-week, right after they opened for the evening... Service was mediocre, somewhat dismissive. The venue is ok, the back bar area was loaded with lots of junk that had nothing to do with food/bar service. The cocktail menu wasn't very impressive either, as I thought (based on reviews) that this was a true craft cocktail bar, but it seemed to be more of an elevated drink list. My drink was decent. I had one, paid and was done.
google avatar

Grace K.

Yelp
Super interesting Asian fusion American bar vibe. I was into it. Many diff types of foods. Fits your whole party's food requests! Tasty drinks too.
google avatar

Natalie B.

Yelp
My best friend is obsessed with this bar and finally talked me into stopping by after dinner. I'm glad I did! It is a tight space and very loud so if you're looking for romance, this ain't the place! But for a fun night out with friends and reasonably priced fancy drinks, this is a great spot! I ordered the Howl at the Moon specifically because it said in parentheses (shit tastes like banana bread) and I didn't believe it possible. I was happy to be proven wrong when it in fact DID taste like banana bread. I'm an official addict and can't wait to go back!
google avatar

Ed L.

Yelp
Spencer Warren knows what he's doing when it comes to running a bar! Fun atmosphere, amazing cocktails and great food! Oh, by the way, they are open 7 days a week until 2am. The perfect recipe for a cocktail joint in the heart of the cultural district downtown. Don't sleep on their amazing selection of bourbon. You'll probably find a pour or two that you cannot get anywhere else. And at a good price!
