We had an extremely pleasant brunch experience at The Warren City Club. This place has been a bit of a mystery to us for a while- it is steps away from our apartment and tucked away on top of the infamous Dark Horse Lounge. We had seen the sign many times but had never heard anyone talking about. Regardless, we decided to give it a try on a balmy, winter Sunday afternoon. During the week, this spot is a private club and event space, but on Sunday, they are open to the public for brunch- we had the impression that Sunday brunch serves a quasi-open house to give clientele a taste of what to expect with a membership. And we were far from disappointed. The atmosphere was pleasant, with plenty of sunlight, and we opted for the rooftop patio, which was very comfortable and provided nice views of VA Highlands. We were seated and served by the friendly host right away, and opted for the very reasonably priced bottomless mimosas, with rotating flavor choices between orange, cranberry, grapefruit and pineapple. We sampled each throughout the meal, with pineapple being the stand-out. Although the menu wasn't terribly vegetarian-friendly, we were able to customize it to our liking. She had the classic two-egg breakfast, sans bacon, served with an outstanding flaky biscuit with refreshing strawberry jam. I ordered the classic eggs Benedict, and substituted the ham for roasted asparagus. It was delicious- classic, hearty but light enough to make me feel comfortable. We were also treated to complimentary small cinnamon rolls at the start of our meal, a perfect sweet way to start our brunch. Besides the quality of the food, the service was impeccable. Our waitress, Raina, was beyond courteous and attentive, and her and other servers kept our champagne flutes full throughout the meal. To top it off, the wait staff even treated us to a show, performing an impromptu conga line to "Proud Mary" on the patio mid-meal. I am not usually one for such silliness, but the homey atmosphere and genuine hospitality of the staff, made this a convivial and light-hearted touch. The Warren City Club is a hidden gem in the neighborhood for a boozy brunch with classic and quality food. Enjoy!
