Jennifer Carroll Heads Back to Top Chef for the Fourth Time With a New Attitude | Eater Philly

"Tucked into the Warwick Hotel on 17th Street in Rittenhouse, I describe Spice Finch as a Mediterranean restaurant Jen Carroll opened last year after returning to Philly with her fiancé, Billy Riddle; it's her Rittenhouse outpost where you might spot her between Top Chef stints, and I'm hoping they'll find time to host a watch party there." - Rachel Vigoda

It was fine, nothing special. Outdated and needs renovations badly, hopefully Marriott will bring this up to modern day standards. Yeah the Lobby is nice, but the room was dirty and falling apart. We only stayed a night. The service was excellent though, very friendly staff.

Upon arrival, it was immediately apparent that the room was in unacceptable condition. The furnishings were extremely dated, with some pieces visibly falling apart and appearing to have been poorly repaired. The bed sheets did not properly fit the mattress, and the ceiling showed significant water damage. The overall condition of the room did not meet the standards expected from your brand. Additionally, at approximately 9:00 a.m., the fire alarm sounded throughout the building, requiring all guests to evacuate. The fire exits were not clearly marked, leading to confusion during the evacuation. More concerning, the lobby staff provided no communication or guidance. There was no confirmation on whether there was an actual emergency, no direction on where guests should gather, and no indication of when or whether it was safe to return to our rooms—even as the alarms continued to sound. The lack of professionalism and situational management was extremely troubling. Also your websites states parking is $50 and I was charged $75 after rushing to evacuate a not burning building with no guidance or help from a single staff member. Given these issues, I request a prompt review of this matter and an appropriate resolution. Thank you for your attention.

Don't stay here, you can find a better four star hotel in the area with much better service. - Upon arrival, we paid a $150 accidental fee. A day after checking out, we noticed a $261 charge. I called the hotel to inquire and the lady just said "It is probably the nightly audit". I asked her what that meant and she replied and said "I'm not sure, but that's what it probably is. It should fall off in a few days". It did eventually fall off but I am a frequent traveler and have never had a hotel randomly charge my card, especially without informing me first. I have also never heard of a "nightly audit" at a hotel where credit cards are randomly charged (and based on the other reviews, this is something that happens often). - They initially gave us (four adults) a room with just one king bed. We had booked two queen beds. We went back downstairs and they did not have a room with two queen beds available, so gave us a room with one king bed and a sofa bed (which was not comfortable). - We were told they would let us know if a two room queen bed would be available for our following night. We never heard from them. We had to repeatedly follow up and were usually brushed off. Eventually, they switched us to another room at around 7pm the next day. - A room to accommodate four people only had two bath towels. We called for towels and they never sent them. We happened to see the cleaning lady in the hallway so got the towels from them. - The shower floor ledge is so low, that half of the bathroom floor ends up wet after a shower.

I stay at a lot of Marriott properties as someone that bounces between gold and platinum status each year. I seek out Bonvoy properties because so far, I haven't had a lot of bad experiences world wide. I wouldn't call this a bad experience because the staff was absolutely pleasant, but it certainly didn't meet my expectations for a Bonvoy property. First, I checked into my double "suite" and found it completely confusing. There was a huge empty space in the room, not even enough chairs or a sofa for the 3 adults in the room. The room was very aged, the heating system didn't work properly, among other features that didn't work - light bulbs burned out, window shades stuck, the bathroom floor felt dirty. Thinking there would be a place we could sit together and eat breakfast, we brought bagels back to the hotel only to get told that despite many tables and chairs in the lobby, a health department regulation said we were not allowed to eat there? If there aren't enough chairs in the room, and no common areas, the experience is not convenient at all. Again, the staff was pleasant, I just wouldn't stay here again because the fit and finish did not meet my expectations.

Google
Our room was nice but it had a lower toilet than I’ve ever seen. Also no place to hold on to, to get in and out of the tub/shower safely with no counter space. However, it was clean, has nice restaurants, pretty, and every single member of their staff from the front desk to maintenance to housekeeping, (everyone) was helpful, nice and pleasant.😀It’s also in a great location. I especially want to praise the front desk staff that were always helpful, professional and looking for ways to accommodate your requests, like Yaz and Jamie and a few that I didn’t get their names.

Google
A very well placed hotel in Rittenhouse Square....formal casual....service was great... Very friendly staff...the room is nice however there are nice large units that are even nicer.....I like how the lobby connects to three very nice restaurants two were formal or semi formal...the other is a very nice place for brunch...the food is great as well.... As mentioned prior, the staff are super friendly from the entrance to front desk and adjacent garage....

Google
This hotel was recently added to the Marriott portfolio. We checked in without knowing it was being renovated. It was indeed in need of renovation. The lobby area is terrific but the rooms themselves are dated and cramped. Would not recommend this place until completion of work. The best thing about it is the proximity to Rittenhouse Square, shops, restaurants, etc. James at the front desk was helpful taking care of a problem with cold water in our shower. And Steve the bellman was a gentleman and helpful as well.

Google
It was a decent hotel. Quiet, clean for the most part. Our bathroom had issues with the mirror and the towel hook. The valet in the garage tried to take our car before we got anything out and then said they'd have to charge us to get it out. Overall, a good hotel for the price and location.

Yelp
We attended a wedding here and oh wow, it was the kind of night that makes your heart feel full. The florals, the chandeliers, the fancy wallpaper, it was like walking into a dream. Everything was elegant but still full of warmth and personality. And yes, very Instagrammable. Major heart eyes.

Yelp
I hate to rate places so poorly but this hotel is not up to the Marriott standard yet. It was recently purchased and needs to go through MAJOR renovations before I would return. They DID NOT disclose they were under renovation in the app or website. The front desk staff and management were understanding, but I left upon check in. Lights didn't work, shower had evidence of grime, desk was nasty, bed was well worn, and paint was peeling. I don't think I would have slept.

Yelp
Um *Marriott* no ma'am. What is this hotel?? I was in town for like 36 hours and arrived at 1 am after a red eye flight. So you can imagine I was tired and ready for a good night's rest. To start the hotel will decieve you because the renovations in the lobby are decent. But as soon as you step on the floor where the rooms are you can see the age and wear and tear of the building. Now let's get into the room. Babyyyyyy a reno hasn't happened since 2008 atleast. The room is dated. Water stains on the ceiling, filth, dust a tattered chair that I wouldn't dare sit in. Moldy shower, a dark yellow ring around the tile around the toilet. I mean the room gave American horror story it was awful. I felt like it was one of those rooms that when you turn on the lights the touches scatter. The bed was wooden and my back hurt when I got up. Alsoo what exactly is going on with the door lock. Marriott what was the reason for that foolishness. This hotel is allegedly *4* stars but it's actually a wolf in sheep's clothing and it's actually a motel. Like Marriott...be so foreal. I for one would never stay here again. Had my trip not been so short I'd have left as soon as I saw the room. Absolutely not don't recommend.

Yelp
This hotel should not be accepting reservations. It is in atrocious shape. To make matters worse, the staff is completely unprofessional, unhelpful, and some are downright rude. The woman who works the front desk, I believe her name is Francesca, but I do not know for certain since none of them wear name tags, perhaps to avoid the complaints, should be removed. I was supposed to stay more nights but moved to another hotel. Warick is ruining Marriott's name. Look at the condition of the room, the heater which did not work properly.

Yelp
The Warwick is located in a beautiful historic building in downtown Philadelphia. The lobby area is spacious and clean, and the front desk staff are very friendly and helpful. However, our actual room left much to be desired. Our room had some questionable stains on the carpeting near the bed, and a dirty hand towel was left on our bed. The bathroom did not have a fan, and as a result, the wallpaper was quite literally peeling off the walls. The floors had clearly not been vacuumed, as there were plastic hair ties on the floor. We had overheard from the front desk that the hotel was completely booked that night, so we knew there was no chance of getting a different review. Plan to pay for valet parking if staying at The Warwick, as the public garage was seemingly intentionally blocked off to force one to use the valet. Overall, the staff were all lovely, but the rooms were not. We likely would not stay here again unless the hotel underwent a major renovation.

Ona K.

Yelp
Condition of our room was substandard. Our white sheer curtains were filthy grey. The white window shades were black with soot. The toilet was kiddie height. The tub was grouted and regrouted within half an inch of its life. Burned out ceiling light. Corporate Marriott has disgraced itself with this hotel acquisition. We may not be staying at any Marriott property in the future. Horrible.

Yelp
I stayed at this hotel about 6-7 years ago and had a great experience with no issues. This past weekend, I visited Philly and was excited to stay here again, but I was incredibly disappointed. My first room had used towels folded up, a dirty bathroom, and a heavily stained mattress. I requested fresh towels, but instead, the receptionist offered me a different room. In the new room, two towels seemed clean, but one was stiff and appeared recently used. The furniture was outdated with visible wear and tear, the bed was stained on the side, and the carpet hadn't been vacuumed--I even found nail clippings near the chair, which was disgusting. The bed was extremely uncomfortable. Woke up with back pain. Had my stay been longer, I would've relocated to a different hotel. The lobby looks modern but once you get to your floor/room, everything is outdated. Honestly, this felt more like a motel than a hotel. Also, be cautious if using valet or garage parking--staff will rummage through your vehicle. Manager of garage was also racist and if you have cash, they pocket it

Yelp
#WarwickHotelRittenhousePhiladelphia Great location for Hotel, restaurants, bars, coffee shops, specialty stores nearby, as well as a park with a weekly Farmers market. Loved the location. The hotel is clean and modern and the staff was friendly, professional and helpful. The lobby is spacious and beautiful, great place to meet up with friends or rest for a moment, so many things to see in the City, so don't waste time lounging around, unless you need to rest. I highly recommend this hotel. Price was average.

Yelp
Absolutely breathtaking, from the views of the city, area of the city (Rotterdam house), and the lobby decor. The room itself was VERY spacious and comfortable. Very clean room, cool and neatly arranged & organized. The bathroom is very large, with both shower and tub. Rittenhouse Grill was closed by the time I checked in but their menu looks phenomenal. The hotel is in walking distance of quite a few restaurants, bars and cafes. My only letdown was the option in television/streaming services. It was only local cable, which was fine at the late hour. I checked in with a gentleman named Robert who was truly impeccable! His service, recommendations and overall care and concern for the guests was truly appreciative. For check out the next morning, the individual who checked me out was truly kind and the other staff I came in contact with.

Yelp
I had one of the worst experiences staying at this hotel, and I travel for work almost bi-weekly. Prior to my arrival, I checked in using the Bonvoy app, but when I got to the hotel's front desk to retrieve my keycard at 1:30am (flight getting into Philly got delayed), the front desk told me there were no rooms available as they oversold and sent me to a Residence Inn for the night. Having gone through multiple flight delays, that was the last thing I wanted to happen at 1:30am, especially when I had to be at the customer site at 10am the following morning. They did not even offer to pay for transportation to and from the hotel, as I paid for my Uber rides out of pocket. Also, the hotel's overall condition can be very deceiving. The front lobby looks great, very modern and very upscale...Until you get to your room. After the first night, they had a room available, and the room I was given...Let's just say I've stayed in a nicer room at a Best Western than this. The tile work in the bathroom looked like it was done by "I know a guy," the caulk around the tub was installed by someone who had trouble tracing a picture, and the mirror was hung by someone who has never heard of a level. The carpet? Probably also done by the tile guy. I was really looking forward to staying at a historic building and experience the old building's charm. This isn't charm, this is sloppy work done by someone who flunked out of trade school. The Warwick is supposed to be on the higher end of the Marriott spectrum, and these attributes are very unbecoming of a hotel in this price category. Take a look at the photos and see for yourself. Needless to say, I do not recommend the Warwick. The Motto by Hilton is a few blocks away, and is a far better hotel than this dump. I know, because I've stayed at the Motto the last three times I was in town, and I should've stayed there this last time.

Yelp
I recently stayed at the Warwick Hotel and overall my experience was ok. The location of this hotel cannot be beat, as it is super central and steps away from Rittenhouse Square park and walkable to a lot of great spots. I had a Deluxe room with one king bed and stayed for three nights. The room itself was spacious and clean and as others have mentioned in reviews a good spot to stay for location and just to sleep. They also had a large gym. The service at the hotel was what was lacking for me. When I checked into my room, I realized I had no towels. Calling the front desk is kind of a mission, but 15 minutes later I did receive my towels. After my first night, I left for the day and was surprised when I returned that no room service had arrived. I went to the front desk to inquire just because when you are traveling for work and have long days the sight of a clean room is the best. They let me know that you need to call ahead. I am totally fine with calling ahead, but that would have been nice to know upon check-in.The next day before leaving I called ahead to request housekeeping, and also checked in with the front desk before leaving to ensure my request was processed. I was surprised when I arrived at 3:30 pm that my room was still without service. I went to check in with the front desk who informed me that they could call to inquire but housekeeping service ended at 4 pm. I understand that things happen and the hotel was at full capacity, but the level of service and communication left a bit to be desired. In these situations a "we apologize for the inconvenience" can go a long way. I will say I did discover the Rittenhouse Grill - the lobby steakhouse - during my stay and was completely obsessed so that was an amazing part of the stay here. They also have a coffee shop and tapas restaurant in the lobby.

Yelp
My friend and I stayed at the Warwick for a night last weekend when we were in Philly for a short weekend trip. The check in process was okay. I was asked if I had pre-paid for the room or I hadn't paid yet. I didn't remember, because I booked the room months before, and I thought it was weird they were asking me! In general, the hotel could definitely use a refresh. All the furniture had seen better days. And we weirdly didn't have a TV remote and had to call downstairs for it. The location is really convenient, but there's a reason it's much cheaper than some of the other hotels off Rittenhouse Square. A great budget option if you don't mind that it's not been updated in a while! Definitely not the worse place I've ever stayed, but it's definitely a budget, mid-quality option in the Rittenhouse area.

Yelp
Booked our stay (11/15-16) thinking this Warwick was similar to the Warwick, New York. NO COMPARISON To start, we arrived at around 2pm were told we couldn't check in until 4pm. We were told that we would get a call/text when the room was ready. We went to get lunch came back, 20 mins to 4pm & room not ready yet. Took a seat in the reception area, a couple of minutes later got up to ask a question when I saw a couple who was just walking in get their room. Receptionist was mentioning the exact room we were waiting for. I asked how can that be, we were there already & this couple was just walking in? When I asked the receptionists their name, they immediately removed their name tag. I asked the bell boy their name & one if them yelled back not to provide me with their names. This was just the start: The furniture in the lobby looked lime it was obtained from the curb on trash day. Was gross! Room safe didn't work Room telephone didn't work, if we needed anything from housekeeping, we had to call the front desk, and well the front desk was not going to be accommodating to us My husband stop by the front desk to ask for coffee... 20 mins later we called again and then again 20 mins later. We finally told the front desk to leave the bag by the door because we were going to sleep. I will never stay here again and only wish that this place was more like the Warwick New York, they know how to treat guests. I do not recommend but I will give 2 stars for location; otherwise it would be 1 star.

Yelp
This hotel was incredibly clean. The hotel staff was warm and friendly. Our daughter was treated like a princess. The bellmen and valet men were welcoming, knowledgeable and kind. We will stay here again for sure!

Yelp
I love staying here when I'm visiting Philadelphia - Warwick offers comfortable rooms at reasonable rates with very friendly service and a location that just can't be beat. This is my second stay here in the last few years, and I am happy to say that everything, from parking, to the reception, to the sundry shop, and all in between is just great. My bed linens are immaculate, the bathroom was spotless and comfortable, and I could not have hoped for the more pleasant stay. I will definitely stay here again. The next time I visit this wonderful city. Thank you so much for hosting me!

Yelp
This.place.is.a.dump. First - the pros- the location. Fantastic! The lobby- nice! Coffee shop downstairs-convenient. The bad: it's just gross. The sink will not drain, the toilet is weirdly tiny and short, the toilet flusher handle is loose and jangly, things are just plain dirty including the coffee maker which is disgusting. The key card works only a third of the time. And the service is painfully bad. Yikes! Stay away.

Rachel M.

Yelp
This went downhill FAST. I stayed here in December after having stayed here previously before ownership changed hands and I had Even recommended it to friends a few months ago. They told me how they had to help each other from getting locked out of the room because the door closes right behind you which is normal for a hotel. So what happened to me on the 11th floor? Is that somebody either rigged the door to not close fully or someone jimmied it and when I came home late at night my room was open and I had my credit cards And wallet stolen right out of the 11th floor room and you're supposed to have a key or be an employee to be able to even get on the 11th floor. Rather than rectify it offer any help or what not they blamed me and said I left the door open because the lock was functioning and that's bullshit. Cause that door should've closed and no one should've been able to even be there. Do not stay here on your life. It is a shit hole in a ritzy neighborhood. Either security is shit or staff are thieves (or both)

Yelp
Friendly and great stay for the night. Bonvoy hotel and historic with several pools on roof. Easy access to many things in the area.

Yelp
Truly the worst hotel experience I have ever had. 1) I'm disabled and booked an ADA room. The room we were assigned was not an ADA room. 2) There was literally no shower curtain. I called THREE times to ask for a shower curtain and physically went to the front desk to ask for a shower curtain, and we never received a shower curtain...in 3 days. 3) Because there was no shower curtain, the bathroom became soaked. This is especially difficult for a disabled person. I asked for extra towels since we never got room service. Never received these towels. 4) Night 1 at 3am: our room's phone rang FOUR times. We kept answering and there was no one on the other end. I called the front desk to tell them that our phone was non-stop ringing and the person was very unhelpful and didn't know what to do. 5) Night 2 at 1am: a man knocked on our door. My husband woke up from bed, asked who it was, and they replied that our "AC is broken". It was in middle of winter and we never requested maintenance to come at midnight. Dangerous and disturbing. There is no security measures taken in the lobby or key card access to use the elevator. 6) The room was weirdly dusty. Even the coffee machine a TV remote was covered in dust, as if the room was never cleaned and forgotten about? 7) Being next to the elevator that DINGS loudly every single time it opens with a paper thin door and walls was extremely disturbing. 8) Bed was uncomfortable, there was no fitted sheet over the bare mattress...only a flat sheet that very easily came undone. 9) everything in the room was just generally old and worn The lack of shower curtain and middle-of-the-night disturbances were unacceptable, on top of all the other bad things that happened. I notified hotel staff as problems arose and all of my requests/complaints were completely ignored. It was bizarre. I even emailed the hotel after our stay and my email was never responded to.

Yelp
This was so disappointing! The location is amazing and it's a beautiful, historic building. I think it USED to be a great hotel, but it's just run down now. I don't think it takes much to just call a drywall person to come fix the rooms. Lots of water damage, hopefully there's no mold! Also, there air conditioning wasn't working properly and the maintenance personnel just came up to kick it?!
google avatar

Karin W.

Yelp
Check in very slow. Only onclerk at busy check in time. Key did not work, nor did second key. No toilet paper in bathroom! Also no water glass. No wastebasket in lobby. Food in Finch restaurant was terrible. Served bacon almost raw. Sent it back and it was still very undercooked. Eggs overcooked. Bathroom in lobby was filthy.

Aundie M.

Yelp
No way this is a 4 star hotel. What exactly is the advanced technology? The lobby is ok but it ends there. The room had dated furniture, a disgusting looking desk chair with cracks in it, cracks in the walls, dirty curtains, clock radio did not work, and super hard towels. The area is lovely and the restaurants on premise were cool. Management needs to fix this place.
google avatar

Todd R.

Yelp
I am so sorry to say that the stay here did not meet what I had in my mind of a great place Historic should not mean run down. It should mean great service and a dedication to the business. They do not always clean your room and when you call to inform the front desk they say, yes we did not clean. Really!! Should be sir we are sorry we will have housekeeping clean as soon as possible. The room, no matter how much I tried, was F'ing cold or so hot I could not be in the room. When I went to check out and ask for taxes to be removed the front staff became combative. As if the taxes prevented him or he lost something. Only one staff member was always willing to assist or try to correct things. Just disappointed in the hotel

Yelp
The Beautiful Lobby totally fakes you out to the in-room experience. The hotel itself is just OK and nothing special. It's in a great location close to Rittenhouse Square with plenty of good eating within walking distance. If you plan on just using for sleeping on a visit, then it's fine. If you plan on Howard Hughes-ing it and spending time in the room, I'd look elsewhere. Granted, I was just in a King Room and not in the suites, but I've been in nicer, more spacious rooms at HI Expresses. The rooms were tiny tiny tiny tiny. Usually when you open the door to your room, there's a bit of a walk to the window, this was pretty darn small with the bed not too far from the hallway wall. The bathroom was on the exterior wall which was kinda nice for natural light. But so small! The staff was friendly and helpful and check-in and check out was a breeze. Every interaction was great and the atmosphere of the lobby was one of the main reasons. What a beautiful, modern and just plain inviting entry to the hotel. Wow! And a great place to watch people struggle with that revolving door at the entrance! :) The Conference/Meeting area was there and the quality of the food and coffee was lacking. The giant carafe of coffee that kept us all awake for days of meetings seemed to always spew coffee grounds along with the coffee. The continental breakfast wasn't anything special and they served everything with no napkins. We had to ask. If you're going to try and be a good hotel, try harder! I wouldn't stay here again, mainly due to the size of the room. The Kimpton a block or two away would be my choice if I came to Philly again.

Yelp
My wife and I were canceled from our flight from Philadelphia International AirPort and booked a room through app Hotel Tonight. We took an Uber from Airport in the rain. At desk the attendant was extremely nice and accommodating. We were directed to a pleasant room although the wood by door frame by the lock was in disrepair. Air conditioning worked poorly so it was warm throughout the night . But the worst part was in the morning, I slipped and fell while getting into the bathtub. There was no handle by the bed. There even was not evening a cloth bath mat by the bath tub. There tiles by the bathtub were slippery and the fall I sustained happened while I was stepping in the bathtub. I hadn't even entered the bathtub. I fell tear the curtain down to try to limit my fall. I hit the tile floor hitting my coccyx, sacrum and left hip. I hit my head on a rectangular wooden bar underneath the sink, cutting my scalp. I tried to call the front desk and the phone was not functioning. Placing ice on my head and getting dressed we went to the front desk. We informed the attendant and gave our phone numbers to another attendant. Being a physician, I called an Uber and went to Pennsylvania Hospital to get a Head Ct which did not reveal a intra-cerebral bleed. Given we had to catch a flight, I declined x-rays of my coccyx and sacrum. I did obtain them the next day in South Carolina, where I live at present. No contact was afforded me by the hotel at all. I believe the hotel is being remodeled bu Marriot and possibly the bath tub is on old model with a significant scoop in the construction, made when bath tubs were not made to be showered in. Or the cleaning crew had not completely removed soap from the tub in cleaning. There was no contact from the hotel in any way to see how I was. I was disappointed especially after the pleasant interaction with the woman at the front desk the night before.

Yelp
The $17 fee that covered our "complimentary" water bottles and a $10 credit to their store is such crap. They also wouldn't give us a luggage cart unless we used the bellman. This forced use of their services leaves a bad taste in our mouths. Really disappointed on a couple of levels.

Yelp
Really clean hotel, closed to a lot of restaurants and shops. Front desk super helpful and friendly i wish i can say the same about the housekeeping but they were rude my check out was 3:50pm and they were knocking on my door 2 hours before check out and the "supervisor" also came and knocked on my door and i told them that they need to get in contact with the front desk because I'm leaving at 3:50 and she said she was front desk when she wasn't. Other than that a wonderful hotel

Yelp
Beautiful lobby and great staff...looks to be upgraded. The room is not completely done. The bathtub is different from the rest of the room and the air conditioning is loud , old, and barely working. I have realized that places that have brutal winters are usually lacking in air conditioning ‍ Nice location near many shops and restaurants you can basically walk anywhere

Yelp
Stayed here for about 3 nights. My experience was great, the room I stayed in was very spacious, with a huge bathroom. The views of the city made me feel like I was on a real vacation. Room was kept well, everyone was super friendly. No complaints, the hotel is old but they do a good job keeping it clean and comfortable. I was on the 8th floor, thought the noise from the city would be a problem but the room was surprisingly very quiet and peaceful. Lots of things to do nearby, restaurants and bars within walking distance. Only issue is how early the restaurant/bar closed.

Yelp
Good service and a decent location, but the rooms are old and worn out. Plus we had things that just didn't work. The lobby is beautiful - I wish they would have used the same time, cost, and design to update the rooms. You can see from pics that the dresser (or whatever it is) is badly worn, and there were stains on the carpet. Worse yet, the room was not very clean. Major dust and singe under the fridge. Which did not actually work. We put food in there from lunch but later discovered it was not cold or even cool. Plugged in but not working. I also found out last minute that the coffee maker in the room was clogged or otherwise unusable. Disgusting. At least they had coffee downstairs. Very nice service, and Spice Finch next door was a pretty good restaurant choice. However, I would not return. I'd rather have a clean, updated room.

Yelp
I called today (9/5/23) to inquire about early check in...let's just say I'm not expecting a lot when I check in on 9/5. Unfriendly, very robotic, cold, and didn't say bye after the call, just hung up! A first impression is a lasting impression. But it appears this hotel is pretty, but may have some ugly ways. UPDATE: Front desk agent Shyland (sp?) is a shining example of experienced and engaging customer service. Her pleasant and personable demeanor was the welcome I needed to give the Warwick some saving grace. The hotel is decent. Not sure if they plan on doing any cosmetic changes but those small updated details will help make a guest feel comfortable.

Yelp
They seem to think they work at a Youth Hostel. When we arrived, there was a line out the door to check in. An hour later, got to the front desk. Was told there would be a 45 minute wait to get into the room. Was told they give out rooms on a first come first serve basis. What?? I'm a Bonvoy member, checked in online with our arrival time. The poor staff, of which there was only one, then eventually two...so they weren't prepared for whatever was going on...made it pretty clear they couldn't care less. Finally got into the room. There were two towels. Two. Neither was a full shower towel. No hand towels, wash clothes, etc. There were exactly three pillows. Two on the bed, and an 'extra' in the closet. But wait, there's more. The room phone didn't work. And couldn't get through to the front desk on my phone. When we checked out called from my phone to get the car. They didn't do it. Waited 30 minutes on the street for the car. Oh, and there was a picket line. Shall I go on? For a Youth Hostel, ok. For a hotel over $300 a night? No way.

Yelp
Zero stars is not an option so as I search for at least one redeeming quality, I'll sing the praises of the restaurant, Spice Finch. Great service and delicious food. What was supposed to be a fun Girls' Night Out of women coming across multiple state lines to celebrate life and sisterhood went from bad to disastrous due to this hotel. Booked months in advance, the request was for a suite with an adjoining room hosting two double beds. We were assured the reservation was notated. That did not matter. Not only did we not have adjoining rooms, we were placed on separate floors. After much back and forth, they located a room on the same floor but around the corner from the suite. The rooms were in poor condition. Black tape across a bathroom vent, no locks on bathroom doors, beyond worn and water damaged furniture, puckered and peeling wallpaper, buckled carpet, chipped and rusted tub, slow drain sink; just a few of the things we experienced. As if that wasn't enough, it has now been confirmed that at least one person in our party has bedbug bites. Management has been slow to respond, at best. There is little to no sense of urgency and the responses we did receive while on site were apathetic. Yes, the location can't be beat but this place is just that, pretty beat up!!

Yelp
Check in was supposed to be at 4pm. I arrived at 7:45pm and was told there was NO rooms available that were cleaned yet. Proceeded to wait until 8:30pm and still no room or compensation. I will definitely not be coming back and do not recommend this hotel.

Yelp
What a dump! The hotel is old and crummy. The room was not serviced for 60 percent of our stay. We had a request fresh towels, water bottles and coffee packets over and over again every day. What exactly did we pay $350 a night for? Total rip off! Would give the hotel "-1star" rating if that option existed.

Yelp
Great location, the bellhops were amazing, friendly and great. The morning front desk young man was absolutely terrible (sloppily dressed and messy appearance) We informed him that there was absolutely no hot water (10min ago) and his concern and service was atrocious and just terrible. He casually said "oh I'm sorry, I'll let them know". I'm confident to say that he won't let anyone know by his demeanor. We just didn't have the energy to get the manager.. so fyi if this happens to you go straight for the manager and speak to them.

Yelp
Although the staff is very nice and friendly, the rooms desperately need updating, at least mine did. I've honestly had better-looking rooms at Red Roof Inn. There were many chips and scratches in the furniture. The bathroom tile and tub were old and could use an upgrade. The carpet was stained in several places. Luckily, I was only here for one night for a convention so I didn't spend much time in the room.

Yelp
Hubby booked this hotel for our little getaway to Philadelphia. The plus with this hotel, is that some places are within walking distance, like Target, Starbucks, CVS, etc. Hubby stated this hotel was supposed to be a 4-star hotel. I will 4-star for the lobby alone, but overall 3 to put it mildly. The lobby is decorated beautifully, until you get to your room. This was out first overnight trip anywhere since COVID, and came prepared with my own cleaning supplies plus gloves. We checked in sometime after 3pm. The front desk clerk asked us about parking, and hubby advised that we pre-paid and parked in the garage which is located within the hotel, but apparently the parking garage and the hotel are not on one accord, since the clerk was unaware of that the parking garage has a multi address, but we appreciated her checking and confirming the mix-up. We were given our keys to Room 1035. Upon entry, I checked every inch of the room and got out the cleaning supplies before putting out bags into the room. I am so glad I did clean, because this room needed it. The window sill was stained with appears to be coffee, and I am not sure if our room was a smoking or non-smoking room, reaked of smoke and you can see the cigarette burns on the curtains. And really, when was the last time these curtains were washed?? They were badly stained and filthy. The room was somewhat cleaned but from the amount of hair and debree found, there is no way this room was thoroughly cleaned especially in the wake of a pandemic. I wiped down the walls as well, since I found drink stains all around the hotel room. The outlets were deemed unsafe, loose or missing all together. The mini fridge, and the complementary water/coffee area, was not deemed clean at all. Found disgusting particles of crumbs in the area of the dish for the cream/sugar. Dust all over the lids (which I prefer sealed in plastic) and were thrown out. In the mini fridge, found stains on the door, shelves, and leftover items in it, like a old receipt, and I was not going to try to guess the date on it. The ceiling was cracked and pieces of ceiling was coming down. The bathroom... more hair found on the door, counter area, and around the tub and toilet. Thank God most of my cleaning supplies were from the dollar store. I thoroughly cleaned each area and sprayed everything down. The tub had chipping paint in a couple of spots, and the drain was hardly connected. The hotel does offer you a iron and ironing board, which needed a new cover (which is not expensive to replace). Thank I brought my steamer. There is a gym on the 4th floor available 24/7. They provided headphones, hand sanitizer, and towels. The gym was nice, but one of the air conditioners was leaking and it left a huge puddle of water, making it unsafe for users. I liked they had a restroom in the facility. Also they had a office facility available for guests, and they are several restaurants within the hotel, be prepared to spend $$$. However there are some great places to get to on foot, Uber/Lyft, or public transportation. Overall, I like the location of the hotel, but if your lobby looks like a 5-star, so should your rooms. Before checkout, which is 11, we were still in our room at 10 am, when housekeeping started knocking, we were finishing up last minute packing and changing our clothes. The price point was reasonable. *But I will say do not use the parking garage if you can help it.

Yelp
I feel like I'm back traveling around Croatia or Slovenia. No amenities here. When you look at the website like 4/10 of the amenities listed are FEDERALLY MANDATED ADA laws like an entrance that can fit a wheelchair. Some would say they must do this because the government ***requires*** it, Warwick calls it a bonus feature. Warwick should continue this outrageous list with more amenities/laws like "we rent rooms to people of any skin color", "our water is drinkable". Our door doesn't close and we need to slam our bodies against it for it to click shut. No bar soap in the bathroom and just given 2 tiny soaps for the shower. 1 roll of tp. You can't call housekeeping because although there is a Housekeeping button on the room phone, it redirects you to an automated voiceover call wake up line. We called the front desk at 930am for extra towels and 1 blanket. 1pm we called again with the same request. At 130 we asked the housekeeper in our hallway. It's 2pm and still waiting LOL! Also can't call room service because there is none although there is a button for it on the phone. Kinda embarrassing that the Warwick like.... bought a bunch of hotel phones at a discount and then put them into rooms without scratching out all the options they don't offer??? Needed to print a 6 page document for a conference. The "business center" LOLOLOLOL. No computers hooked up. Printers both unplugged. Plugged them in myself. No ink cartridges. Front desk don't have them either. Really should take my advice and keep listing laws as fake amenities instead of including a non-functioning business center. I would mind none of this if the price point matched the no amenities.

Yelp
During our family's stay at the Marriott at Rittenhouse Square, someone knocked on our door... AT 2 A.M., announcing themselves as "housekeeping." Within a second of saying that, the individual used a key to UNLOCK AND OPEN THE DOOR TO THE ROOM WHERE MY WIFE AND I AND OUR THREE CHILDREN WERE SLEEPING. My wife and I immediately shouted, and they quickly closed the door and left. We had not requested any service, and our family had been asleep since about 9 p.m. I also doubt housekeeping is making up rooms at two in the morning. The following morning, I reported the incident to the front desk, and I was told that security would review the key logs and follow up with me. When I checked out they asked me to email the head of security. When they didn't answer my emails I emailed the GM, when he didn't answer my emails I emailed the VP. Hell I even submitted a complaint via the website. I have not received a clear explanation or resolution or even a single return email saying anything. Was it a confused worker? Was it someone hoping to steal from sleeping guests? Was it someone hoping to do something terrible? Marriot doesn't know, and more importantly, Marriot doesn't care. That's their one all consuming guiding principle at this location, from front desk all the way up to the tippy top, literally no one cares to find out if there's a criminal or incompetent employee stalking the halls in the middle of the night. Or maybe they did find out and what they found out was to terrible to share. Who knows? Below is a timeline of my attempts to contact the hotel: Date of Incident - 2am on December 29th 12/29 - Reported to front desk and told someone would get back to me with an explanation 12/30 - Checked out and given Aubrie Schatz's email as "head of security" and told to email them for an explanation. 12/31 - Wrote to Aubrie Schatz outlining the issue and asking for a resolution 01/06 - Followed up with them again with another email 01/07 - Emailed Scott Fisher the current GM of the hotel letting him know about the issue and that his security person has not gotten back to me 01/15 - Submitted my issue via the website contact form and was assigned case number 648491759 01/16 - Received a form email from Utkarsh R. Thanking me for my email and telling me he's opened a case for the management of that hotel to review directly (this has been my only contact from the company) 01/27 - Emailed Aubrie Schatz AND Scott Fisher together to let them know I was hoping to hear back from at least one of them before now 01/27 - Emailed Customer Care back asking for an update on my case 02/04 - Emailed Peggy Roe EVP + Chief Customer Officer, Marriott International 04/01 - Literally no one cares

Yelp
We were so impressed with the service from the staff on duty during a very hectic MLK weekend preceding an Eagles game. The lobby was a bit understaffed leading to significant delays, but all of the employees we encountered went above and beyond to provide helpful, friendly service. The front desk, valets, luggage attendants, Spice Finch crew, concierge, and housekeeping were all fantastic! Really great staff did a wonderful job coping with what I can only assume was corporate incompetence. Hoping management listens to their staff to make some improvements.

Yelp
I had an issue with the services listed between this hotel and Priceline.com. The woman that checked us in was very rude and seemed as if she didn't care about anything I was saying. All she repeated was, "please insert your card." Everyone was just pointing fingers at each other. Priceline stated that they post details from the hotels website and the hotel said I'd have to take that up with Priceline. So I don't know who's the blame for the misinformation, but that lady was pretty rude. Other than that it was an ok stay. We love a few minutes away and just wanted to getaway for the night. The room was as advertised, minus the robes and slippers listed in the details. We had a fridge, non working safe and a king size bed. They don't offer breakfast so be careful when looking for these options when staying or booking through a third party. We didn't really need to contact the staff for anything as we were only there for a night. In at 11pm out at 9pm. It's a nice place overall but the rooms look nothing like you'd expect when you see the lobby and other areas of the hotel.

Yelp
This is the nastiest hotel room I've ever stayed in!! Traveled 14 hours from California, to stay in a room that the toilet is constantly running. The room smells like throw upI I wondered why they had two refrigerators so I opened the one and it smelt like rotten garbage. I went downstairs to the desk and ask for another room Dave said no and he would send someone to fix the problem. 30 minutes passed and no one can. Here are pictures of what this hotel room real looks like.

Yelp
I started this review thinking I would just vent about my horrible experience, but I've realized that this hotel company desperately needs constructive feedback so that they can make the changes necessary for their guests to have a positive lodging experience in the future, notwithstanding those few that will always be the exception, as it's impossible to please everyone all the time. My fiancé and I stayed at the Warwick Rittenhouse in Philly for our anniversary weekend. First inconvenience: Check-in was delayed, so instead of us checking in at 4pm, we had to wait to be checked in by 4:30. We then had to quickly change for dinner reservation at 5pm. Our second inconvenience was the room itself, for which I spend over $200/night: Not enough towels and no bathroom mat for us. The complimentary shampoo/conditioner bottles had nothing in them -either they were empty or the contents were in solid form and could not be forced out with any amount of pressure. Only one bar of soap, not a separate one for the shower. The shower drain was clogged, so while taking a shower, we were simultaneously running a bath, since the water could not easily drain out. The sofa in our room was old and worn, and we could feel the spring when sitting on it. Very uncomfortable and difficult to lift yourself out. The third inconvenience was the elevators not running on checkout day. When we left the room to check out with our luggage, we had to wait about 10 minutes for an elevator (there are FOUR elevators, out of which ONLY ONE was operating at 11am). When the one operating elevator finally arrived, it was too crowded for us to board. We were on the 9th floor, and rather than wait for that one elevator to come back to us, we decided to drag our luggage down NINE FLIGHTS of stairs to the lobby. When we attempted to check out, we were informed by Concierge that there was only ONE line, which had at least 10 frustrated people waiting their turn. I asked the gentleman at concierge if I could speak with the manager, and he pointed to the woman behind the counter helping the guests in the line to check out, etc. She was all by herself without help. We later learned that due to the influx of guests for the Eagles game that day, as well as polling employees for the upcoming election, etc., that the hotel was exceptionally busy. This rationale is difficult for me to process, when management can clearly note the number of rooms that have been sold, in order to allow for proper staffing coverages on any given day. To have a manager all alone tending to guests is sending a message that upper management has no consideration for their employees, nor their guests. Warwick management may not value my time, but I certainly value my time. So, to sum up the checkout experience, the lobby was packed, the one and only line was dreadfully long, and only ONE elevator was working. Valet was backed up and they were slow. When a hotel is aware of an 'exceptionally' busy day, they should have all hands on deck to accommodate the 'exceptional' number of guests, by increasing their hospitality resources. To add insult to injury, they do not provide a breakfast in the hotel, but rather, you have to go outside or the Bluestone Lane café connected to their lobby. I won't be staying here ever again, and I'll be sure to warn family and friends that Warwick Rittenhouse in Philly should be avoided at all costs. Please do not disregard this complaint if you value your comfort and to whom you give your hard-earned dollars for a reasonable standard of service.

Yelp
SUPER friendly staff, inclusive, kind, took excellent care of our group!! The coffee place attached was so convenient, and they had a great breakfast. We will ALWAYS stay here anytime in Philly. Perfect location.

Yelp
I stayed here for a night when I went to Philly for a weekend getaway. My stay here was pleasant. The staffs were friendly. When I ask for something, I received it. Mainly requesting a bottle of water, which was free. The room is very spacious. The huge flat screen tv provided great entertainment at night. There was a mini fridge in the room so I was able to store any leftover food I had. The bed was very comfortable. However there wasn't much of a view. I stayed on the 7th floor and my window faced a brick wall. The location is very convenient. Easy to walk to tourist areas. While it's pricey, I would recommend this hotel.

Yelp
If you are looking to book this hotel in hopes of a vacation or business trip to Philly, TURN BACK NOW. This hotel is not worth more than $100 per night and if you see reviewers who enjoy this hotel, I promise you they have not stayed in many hotels. It is managed by Radisson and it feels like a Radisson on the side of the New Jersey turnpike. The hotel itself is falling apart. See the photos attached but the rooms are just the worst. They aren't cleaned properly and there is much needed maintenance. Not to mention the water was out to do routine maintenance for over 4 hours while I stayed here. As someone who has been to almost every hotel in Philadelphia, I advise you not to stay here. The Kimpton, Loews, Cambria, Sofitel, Westin, & Marriott are by far better options for similar priced (if not cheaper) rooms. I am giving this two stars as it looks nice on the outside and in the lobby, but this hotel is nothing more than a renovated roadside motel.

Yelp
If I could rate this place as a ZERO, I would. We stayed at The Warwick Hotel in Rittenhouse Square in Philadelphia in March 2024. It was a one-night getaway and birthday celebration, sound fun - right? Wrong! We woke up to bug bites all over our body and found bed bugs in our room...in our bed! We know that hotel staff can be inundated with less than ideal customers so we tried to remain polite EVEN THOUGH THERE WAS BED BUGS and the situation causes for a freakout. We packed up our belongings in trashbags that the cleaning team didn't even want to hand to us because they themselves were terrified. When we left, we expressed our primary concerns, namely that (1) we be refunded completely and (2) our belongings be properly cleaned. Fast forward, it's been 11 days since we checked out and we have yet to arrive at any sort of resolution. Instead, we were told there was no ecidence of bed bugs which was a LIE. We have video evidence and pictures of not only our bites, but the bed bugs! We pushed for a copy of the report and noticed that the company completed the inspection in 1 minute. Now I am no expert but I am pretty sure that it is near impossible to thoroughly inspect a room with (2) beds and furniture in 1 minute. To add insult to injury, the hotel has been less then responsive in resolving this. It feels like they are hoping that we will just give up. So here I am, extremely disappointed and writing a review because I want to prevent others from experiencing the abysmal treatment we've endured. So DO NOT RECOMMEND STAYING HERE!
