Best Boston Marathon Restaurants and Bars | Eater Boston

"You’ll have to cross Beacon Street to get to Washington Square Tavern from the Publick House (good luck with that), but once you’re there, try a spiced pear martini with a tableful of fried clams, calamari, and ice-cold oysters." - Erika Adams

Where to Drink in Washington Square - Eater Boston

"The Washington Square Tavern is a dictionary definition neighborhood joint. Its dimly lit ambiance makes diners and drinkers feel as though they’re in some quiet south coastal English pub. Get a classic cocktail here — which is to say, get a Sazerac — because the bartenders know what they’re doing." - Terrence Doyle

I'm done eating here. I've been two times prior, and I keep having the same experience of rude waitstaff and hosts. For our most recent visit, it wasn't busy, and the whole ordeal took over 3 hours for our party of 2 to eat. Our server was really disinterested and we were watching her socialize in the service station area as we had our menus closed and waited to order. The host, an older lady, seemed really annoyed when we showed up for our reservation as we appeared to interupt her chatting with another worker. While we waited to be seated, the host socialized with another table, looked around, and then waved us over to sit. The whole vibe of the restaurant is basically that if you aren't buddies with the server or host, they don't care about you. There are better food options in the area with much more hospitable staff. Edited review to a 1 star due to the restaurants response. The restaurant says they fired their staff (what a joke) and there is a difference in training and socializing. What I witnessed was not training so thanks for trying to gaslight about that. This establishment would rather place blame on the patron rather than look internally at the low standards they have for their staff. As I said originally- there are much better places in the area that are worth your time and money. On another note- other reviews also mention the poor service so perhaps this is worth looking into. But, I appreciate the reminder to post about positive experiences in the area at establishments that care about patrons! Thanks!

The best outdoor dining set up I’ve seen in the Boston area! The food was delicious and the portions were great. The duck breast and octopus were particularly tender and scrumptious. Each table is provided with three heaters, so both my girlfriend and I were warm and comfortable (despite it being 15 degrees out). All Covid precautions were taken seriously and we will be back!

Always a good experience here, a very cosy pub atmosphere with a great beer selection. Their food is awesome and is definitely not pub grub! They usually have specials as well, the tuna was fantastic. They have heated outdoor seating as well through the winter with plenty of heaters, we will be back to sit outside!

We recently moved to the area and a local told us to come. Came for the first time last night and it did not disappoint! Love the ambience, feels like an old world library. The red blend wine I had was fantastic. We did the tavern arincini as an appetizer and it was great and perfect portion so we did not ruin our dinner-- which were even more amazing. The steak in the steak frites was massive and my butternut squash or ravioli was phenomenal. Will definitely be coming back!
