"Its endearing name gives a clue as to the likeable, friendly vibe at this restaurant in the shadow of the majestic Forth Rail Bridge. Its grey brick walls are enlivened by boldly coloured artwork and, as expected, it’s a small and cosy place. Fresh Scottish ingredients are served in neatly presented, classic combinations; if you get the chance, make sure you try the plump Shetland mussels, which are naturally delicious yet further enhanced by bacon, basil and parmesan." - Michelin Inspector

"Across the Firth of Forth from Edinburgh, in the town of North Queensferry, the Wee Restaurant has remained a Fife standout for more than a decade. As its name implies, it’s a small spot with just 40 seats, but the close quarters create a relaxed, intimate atmosphere. Here, husband-and-wife team Craig and Vikki Wood offer simple food like char-grilled sirloin steak and smoked haddock with potatoes alongside a carefully considered selection of wines. In addition to à la carte dishes, the restaurant serves a seasonal “Menu du Jour” at lunchtime Tuesday through Saturday and in the evening from Tuesday through Thursday. It’s perfect for lighter appetites and offers great value, with two courses for £16 (around $21) or three for just £20 ($26)."

Another fabulous meal. Food seems to get better over time. Service spot on. We had perfectly cooked halibut and succulent venison, portions were pretty big. Yes, it’s quite expensive but it’s excellent!

Absolutely delightful. Location is a quick train ride from the city itself, enjoyed what we ordered, too bad we had to leave early just to catch the train, enjoyed the view while we stroll on the way to the restaurant. Had the Iberico, mussels and the sourdough.

Relaxing dining experience with fantastic food. Fresh seafood and dishes were seasoned perfectly. Great mocktails and coffee too. Will definitely be back.

Been there last month, tasty fresh seafood. Didn’t try the steak but I believe the food quality must be really good as well. For dish details, please see every captions of the photo. A wee point I appreciated a lot was even the hand wash provided in the toilet is made in Scotland with high quality. I do appreciate a restaurant would like help promoting and supporting Scottish products in every small aspects.

We've been here several times and the food is always fantastic; perfectly cooked fish, flavours are well balanced and everything is delicious. The tarte tatin is huge and absolutely worth the wait!

Came here for our 31 wedding anniversary, the wife found it online. Parking is not the easiest outside, we managed to get a place outside a shut down pub. You may have to go round the corner, to find a place. On entering, to the left are tables on ground floor level and to the right, you go up a number of steps to the tables. So if you are in a wheelchair or have difficulty walking, you can use the seating on the left. Wife went for a steak and I went for the pork. And without doubt, they were both very good. Full of flavour and portion size was just right. Sides we went for jersey potatoes and asparagus & nuts. Again both were plenty full and tasted really nice. There is enough in both bowls, to share between us. Had a nice chat with one of the owners and she told us she had been there a number of years (I won’t say how many 😉). Would I go again? Definitely would go again

That was superb! As good a meal as I've had in a long time. The crab arancini was outstanding!

Yelp
We stumbled onto the restaurant while photographing this lovely neighborhood. It's a Michelin rated restaurant and the best we've had in Scotland. We had a three course meal and everything - including the service - was exquisite. It was a highlight of our stay.

Yelp
The mussels prepared with cream and bacon are life altering. You must get them. Period.

Yelp
What a cracking meal we had here. Went mid week and we had not booked and I guess we were very lucky to get in. As the name suggests it isn't the biggest place in the world. We had the menu du jour which is £20 for three courses. The emphasis is very much on quality not quantity and l must say the quality was tremendous. Probably the best meal I've had in a while. Service was excellent and the fabric and mood of the place is very smart without being uptight. I'd recommend booking no matter what day you go on. Can't recommend this place enough.

Yelp
We found ourselves in North Queensferry around lunch time and had the choice between a hotel bar and the wee restaurant. Without knowing anything about it, we chose the wee restaurant. When we walked in it was obvious we were slightly underdressed (it's a tablecloth kinda place...) but the waitress had a spot for us. We were sat down in the side room, a small room with only two tables. I wouldn't recommend it, because it felt a little bit awkward being able to overhear the other group so well. The tables in the main restaurant were all booked unfortunately. We looked at the lunch menu and we astounded by how expensive it was (£17,50 for two courses, the evening menu would have been 2 courses for £28,50). That wasn't really our idea of a quick lunch! As we already sat down, we felt we just had to suck it up and enjoy it as much as possible. We decided to order a two course lunch, with a starter and a dessert (we weren't that hungry). I spotted the word truffle on the menu and had to choose the mushroom truffle soup. It was delicious but a very large portion compared to my boyfriend's starter. He had a goat cheese parcel, which was nice, but nothing amazing. I had a cheese board as a dessert, which was really nice. My boyfriend had a pannecota was nice as well. The service was fine, but for a place with these prices i would expect a little more from them! All in all, I would love to score this place four stars if only it wasn't so bloody expensive!

Yelp
Disappointed is the only word that I can use to describe my experience here tonight. I've been here a couple of times before with members of my family. The experiences have ranged from very enjoyable to 'meh'. I've not had a consistent experience for some reason plus it's expensive for what you get (even by Edinburgh standards) and the wine is overpriced in my opinion. However I chose to go tonight as my father was visiting from England for the evening and it was the only decent place I could think of nearby that would avoid a trip into Edinburgh. As money isn't a factor with him i didn't worry about the cost. Boy, i wish we'd made the effort to come into the city!! Food-wise I feel it wasn't as good as I've experienced here before. The positives were the homemade bread and olive tapinade and the starters. The positives ended there unfortunately. My dad opted for the smoked salmon which was nice (not that's there's any cooking involved in that) and I had the pork belly bonbons which were crisp and tasty with a shredded meat filling and came with a refreshing micro salad. Good start. The mains were really the let down. My dad went for the sea bass and shrimps which was served with Caesar type leaves, an egg and croutons. I went for the roasted butternut squash risotto and fried artichoke. The waitress asked how we were enjoying the food and my dad said that being honest, and since she'd asked, the sea bass fillet was far too small for being the main event of the dish. It was a very small single fillet of fish and for what you were paying for he felt it should have been bigger or 2 small fillets. She said she would pass the comment to the chef. Now, I wasn't really enjoying my risotto either but felt I couldn't really say anything to compound it more (I always cringe in situations like this). My risotto looked like a plate of scrambled eggs and the texture was similar. I'm probably spoiled having eaten numerous risottos in Italy so i know how it should be served and stodgy and slightly overcooked is not correct. To our amusement we could hear the chef's reply to the waitress from the kitchen. He defended the dish by saying the fish wasn't the only thing on the plate, there was shrimp and an egg too! After we'd finished she came back (not mentioning that a large proportion of my risotto was left) and relayed the message from the chef. Apparently the menu is designed so you are full after 3 courses. After laughing, and explaining he owns a restaurant himself, he said "are you saying that if I only eat 2 courses I'll go away hungry then?!?" I did feel sorry for the poor girl as she clearly didn't know what to say but it was a ridiculous thing for the chef to have told her to say. His fault, not hers. We opted to cut our losses at that point and finish up. Parting on friendly terms (or so I thought) with the waitress who was friendly and did her job well and was tipped accordingly. The bill? It came to a whopping £95 for 2 courses each, a bottle of wine and some water. At 2 courses for £27, especially given the quantity and quality of what we were offered tonight, this is excessive. 3 courses would cost you £32 plus an extra £6.50 supplement if you wanted the steak. £6.50!! Why am I scoring this place a 1 star? I've never scored a place this low. Ever. If I could give half stars I would have probably rated tonight 2.5, but I was all set to score it a 3 as 2 would have been a bit mean. The 1 star came about an hour after we'd left and I received a call from the owner..... My disappointment turned to "rage" after what i mistakenly thought was a call to offer apologies, turned into a really unpleasant and rude call saying we were never welcome back and my dad should be "ashamed" of upsetting the waitress (who didn't look upset as far as I could tell). He shouted down the phone at me, not letting me speak, saying he designs the menu himself and we were never to come back the he hung up! I can honestly say I've never experienced anything like it! A restaurant owner calling a paying customer back following some asked for feedback on the quantity of a dish, and telling them they're banned?!?! Wow. So fellow yelpers, no, I would NOT recommend this place. Ever.

Yelp
Great food in a small village just across the Forth Bridge from Edinburgh. The Wee Restaurant is wee, with seating for about 30 people total, and with a wee menu of 3-5 starters, mains, and desserts. The staff is also small, so a large group may take a while to get served, especially at dinner time on a weekend. But, the wee stops there. The flavors are big, the dishes are ample and are cooked to perfection. The staff is attentive and more than willing to do what you want to make your dinner a success. With a seasonal menu that takes advantage of local ingredients dining doesn't get much better. We had muscles, scallops, and French onion soup to start, and duck breast and ribeye steaks with potatoes cooked in duck fat (ask for the duck fat, they don't always do them that way). We all had the brownie with sauces for dessert. The scallops were just good but everything else was fantastic. The duck breast was cooked to perfection and the best I have ever had. Add to that that they threw in a free bottle of wine and you have a 5-star experience. If you have the time, get there early go for a walk down the Fife Coastal Path to build your appetite and thirst and then stop for a drink down the street at the hotel bar before dinner.

Yelp
Not overly impressed with the food or the prices. A bottle of beer for £5 and a glass of wine £7.50. The chef came out to talk to one table, the occupants of which were presumably known to him, but ignored all the other diners. A complaint about the toughness of a ribeye steak was met with the comment attributed to the chef that you get that sometimes...no apologies or compensatory glass of wine/ cup of coffee. On the plus side, quite a cosy place and a good atmosphere, but I won't be going back
