18 Places to Eat and Drink in Old Town Fort Collins | Eater Denver

"Diners can watch the chef at work from any of the cozy leather seats in this old-world bistro. A la carte cheeses (sourced from the neighboring family-run shop) and a wine flight are easy starters. Otherwise, the menu of small bites has been known to feature bison tongue and crickets." - Josie Sexton

In town for a wedding, visited Old Town. While shopping, came across this gem of a wine and cheese shop. Great wine selection, great cheese selection, and great service from Marybeth. We sat outside as the weather was perfect. We chose a variety of cheeses, and a glass of rose. Luckily we don't live local, as we would visit weekly. Maybe they ship... Lol

Google
What a nice snack we just had at the Welsh Rabbit! De-li-cious cheeses, meats, and fresh bread, and excellent service. We will absolutely be back. Thank you!!

Google
Had a wonderful evening! We ordered a beautiful assortment. There wasn’t one thing on the board that we didn’t like. Server was an absolute delight. If you get the Caprese Salad have them give you more dressing. It’s was exceptional.

Google
Had never been in, but met a few friends on a slow week day and this place was incredibly charming! The wine selection was approachable and our server was very knowledgeable. I'll be back to wine and dine!

Google
I LOVE THE WELSH RABBIT. This is one of the best businesses in Fort Collins. The food is great, but the staff are what make it so amazing. They are so kind and always go above and beyond. Special shoutouts to Dean and Janelle!

Google
Absolutely loved this place. It’s so cute inside! The staff helped us pick two amazing red wines. I thought the charcuterie spread was great. I felt there could have been a bit more cheese, but overall really enjoyed everything!

Google
I recently ordered from The Welsh Rabbit over the phone since I’m out of state, and I was beyond impressed with the experience. Their customer service was outstanding—friendly, knowledgeable, and incredibly helpful in guiding me through their excellent selection. Communication was seamless throughout the process. The owner, Dean, personally delivered my package, and when no one was home, he called me and arranged a more convenient time for delivery. That level of service is rare and truly appreciated! If you're looking for top-notch service and a fantastic wine and cheese selection, I highly recommend them!

Yelp
Delighted the little foodie cockles of m'heart! We actually had dinner before I saw this place so we literally had second dinner just so I could charcuterie. The prices are excellent compared to other places I've had the same. It is probably my most favorite way to eat. Their selection isn't super extensive but it's well thought out and definitely varied enough to keep it interesting. The staff is knowledgeable and enthusiastic about both service and the food itself and they were very accommodating for gluten free me. I love the extra fancy goods you can buy along the wall and the option to pick a bottle of wine from a wide selection is fun. They were also great for the non alcoholic cohort and family friendly as the little kid attached to his adults helped us see while we ate at our cozy little table next to them. It's in a great location of an adorable town with a fun nightlife. I highly recommend it for both newbies and those with big food knowledge, you won't be disappointed.

Yelp
You need to find a way to visit this place. Amazing service., fine quality of meat and cheeses, Soft & toasty-fresh bread, and great wine selection by Finn!

Yelp
I love this place for wine and cheese in the heart of Old Town. We've been twice and have been able to get a table easily. The service is friendly and knowledgeable. The space is very welcoming. On a warm day this is the ideal place to sit out and people watch. I can't wait to go back!

Yelp
What a lovely little spot! I've overlooked it many times but I'm so glad we finally visited. They have a large selection of a la carte meats, cheeses, pickled/brined veggies and more. I had their white wine flight which was lovely to pair with what we ordered. We came hungry and after clearing the board, were comfortably full. We sat next to the front window and it's a great seat to people watch and relax in the afternoon sun. We will definitely be returning!

Paula S.

Yelp
The food is awesome. I had a grilled cheese sandwich and it had grilled mushrooms and caramelized onions with 3 different cheeses. It was amazing. The only sad thing is that's it's in Fort Collins Colorado and I'm back home in Oregon. But I plan on going back there again on my next trip.

Yelp
What a cute gem of a place! A perfect afternoon spent here enjoying wines, charcuterie, and sandwiches. It was a beautiful 50ish degree day to sit in the sun on their patio and enjoy the great service. We tried a couple flights and made our own cheese and meat platter and I had to try the turkey sandwich! All was so delicious! After dining, we checked out the little market inside and bought a few items to take home. Will definitely be back!

Kelly C.

Yelp
Overall solid experience with thoughtful selections and hard working staff. I am going to refer to time spent sipping and nibbling here as "sheer bliss".
google avatar

Nicole P.

Yelp
Not only great service and assistance with selections, but many wonderful items to take home to make a meal.

Yelp
What a find! We were just strolling around the historic downtown district and found this place. Classy, relaxed decor, a very broad assortment of wines, cheeses, dry goods of all sorts at reasonable prices. Friendly staff. Good sized menu with fresh sandwiches and organic, farm to table ingredients. We were very glad to stock up on salads and sandwiches a cut above the norm before a road trip.
google avatar

Yelp
Tried this place out for the first time last night and absolutely loved it! What a gem. I enjoyed being able to customize your own charcuterie board. Our lovely server made great recommendations. Amazing service and a great selection of wines. Will definitely be back!
google avatar

Leanna K.

Yelp
Concept: build your own charcuterie platter, or choose from their already made ones. Ambiance: 5/5 super cute, quaint, and welcoming Service: 5/5 super friendly and knowledgeable Food: 5/5 we built our own platter with midnight moon, queso de oveja, and stompetoren. They were all equally delicious! We also had the almonds, wine jelly, bread, and apples. The wine jelly was my least favorite, unfortunately. It had a VERY strong alcohol flavor that really overpowered it. Overall, would definitely come back! It's also right in the heart of a great lovely shopping area so we plan to explore that next!

Yelp
Welsh Rabbit is a great spot for date night - it's our go-to for pre-dinner wine and cheese!
google avatar

Yelp
For his 83rd birthday, we ordered the medium cheesemonger charcuterie board for our grandpa. Nobody was disappointed!! The staff clearly puts in thought and love as they curate these boards. The cheese and meat were all fresh and offered a fun variety of flavors. The jam was absolutely delicious and worked well with the cheeses. Between the four of us, we still had some leftovers from this beautiful board. If you're looking to purchase a charcuterie, we highly recommend Welsh Rabbit.

Caleb C.

Yelp
My wonderful girlfriend and I both LOVE this place. Both the bistro and cheese shop are great. The bistro has a super nice atmosphere and is perfect for date nights or a nicer lunch. We usually just order cheeses and bread / crackers to snack on but their other dishes are GREAT. The grilled cheese they have is absolutely loaded with a ton of different cheeses and idk if they still serve it but their pastas and escargot were super yummy too. Such a great place!
google avatar

Yelp
Excellent place for dinner! Charcuterie boards, soups , and salads. Delicious house made bread. Great wine selection. Lovely service and charming atmosphere.

Brian W.

Yelp
Great opportunity to try some interesting cheeses with a nicely curated wine menu. It's an intimate space, so service is fast and attentive. Fun for tasting groups!
google avatar

Yelp
They've got the cheese! They've got the wine! For a fun and adventurous dining experience, check them out. After all, who doesn't love cheese and wine!?

Joseph C.

Yelp
If you want a unique restaurant that prides itself on giving you the best food and experience they have to offer to all customers, The Welsh Rabbit is for you. Amazing rotating cheese options. The best cured meats found in Fort Collins. Amazing house made bread that caters to all budgets (yes you can get just the right amount without spending tons of money). This is the best unique restaurant in Fort Collins. They also offer custom cheese platters filled with amazing additions.

Colin H.

Yelp
Fantastic cheeses and items in stock. The staff let me try far too many cheeses but were really great about it! The one thing I've heard is that some people who experienced the old layout prefer that to the more casual setup here. I enjoyed it a ton though!
google avatar

Stephanie V.

Yelp
Let me start out by saying that if you want (need) a romantic date night, this is the spot. The Welsh Rabbit was a super classy place for us to kick off a bachelorette weekend. The staff were warm and friendly and the cheese and wine were off the charts delicious. Thank you to Jacob and Emily for being so amazing.

Yelp
Stopped in for brunch, yesterday, on a pretty run of the mill perfect, sunny, Sunday Fall afternoon in Fort Collins. It's worth mentioning that I'm a tourist at this point, former local, but any time I'm lucky enough to be in Northern Colorado, this place is on my short list of food fantasies that never. Ever. Lets me down. Had a DEEE-VINE smoked duck crepe, cooked in front of me by a gloriously charming culinary artist who fed me kindly and offered great dialogue. Also had meats and cheeses; the selection and quality of which rivals charcuterie served to the gods. My server was an angel, whose warmth came second only to her knowledge. She served me wine with very little helpful guidance from me that was exactly what I wanted. If a wine empath were a thing, it would be her. I would give 10,000 stars if possible. Please do yourself a favor and let this place amaze you.

Yelp
This place is absolutely amazing! I come here practically every week, and the staff are always so nice and helpful in finding great cheeses. I'm not a regular at many places but this cheese shop is one of those places for sure. The selection is top notch, and I can always try new cheeses. Highly, highly recommend

Yelp
Amazing quaint and quiet vibe, with a decadent selection of fine cheeses and meats. Portions were bigger than expected and delicious.

Yelp
This was a pretty unique shop... obviously, specialty to cheeses and things that go along with cheese; salami + baguettes + olives + cracker + chorizo + fruit spreads + nuts + wine... The gentleman behind the counter was soft spoken and offered some samples of the different cheeses and meats which was nice, as I was curious to learn more about their options before purchasing. The prices were considerable for being a specialty shop. I think my favorite part was watching him cute and wrap the cheeses--it really made the experience. Satisfied with my visit and would maybe use this place for special occasions.

Yelp
First time visiting the Welsh Rabbit. We were very pleased! The two employees were incredibly accommodating and knowledgeable, and were excited to share tastes of their favorite cheeses. We left with delicious cheese and bread and a smile on our faces :)

Margo G.

Yelp
Excellent food and service. We were celebrating a birthday and did not feel rushed to leave.

Yelp
What a great place! The Ambiance, Service and food were amazing! Chef Joe did an excellent job! Everything was delicious! We will definitely be back!

Yelp
Beautiful little wine bar that has fantastic prices! An absolute must! Good wine, great charcuterie and cheese, great prices, and best of all wonderful service. This place is small and was fairly empty when we first showed up around 2 on a Saturday, it did get a little busier by the time we left but still not crowded. There were only two gentlemen working that day, and even though we sometimes didn't see our waiter for a little while the service we received from him was superb. We started with two flights of wine and I think it was called their "popular platter" consisting of cheeses, meat, bread, apples, and almonds. We then ordered 3 bottles of wine (there were 6 of us in total), and a much larger cheese and charcuterie board as well as bread and olive oil. All of it was phenomenal. The most astonishing part was the price. Our total bill ended up being around $120 for 6 of us. I'm from California and can tell you first hand that this is one of the best wine bars I've been to.

Yelp
Amazing find! Absolute gem. Found this place accidentally while In town. Beautifully crafted dishes using local ingredients. Worth going out of your way.

Yelp
Great place to eat and relax after shopping! The gouda platter was amazing. The midnight moon is to die for. Very cute inside as well. I will be back to try some more items!

Yelp
Amazing wines, boards and staff. Had the greatest afternoon indulging myself and look forward to going back.

Yelp
For goodness sakes do yourself a favor and treat yourself to The Welsh Rabbit. I mean it. You've earned it. Cozy up to the chefs counter with someone you enjoy snuggling with, call up the girls, or take yourself out for a 'treat yourself' night (that's what I did). Window seat, glass of Cab, cheese plate, and the best damn Sage Quail entree you'll find. Highly recommend if you're looking to unwind. Perfect place for that.

Yelp
Went there a few days ago. I loved it. Excellent service. We picked 3-4 cheeses and a couple of meats for our board. We made good selections, shooting in the dark some -all of it was good. We got the chorizo which was wonderful. A real surprise. Order the bread which was very nice. Got a small plate of a smoked egg yoke and mushrooms. It was sophisticated and excellent. We had a great time thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere which I would call casually elegant. Probably the best wine and cheese place I've every gone to and I have been to about 6. Moderately priced. I got the house white wine. Think it was as $11-12.

Yelp
This is the cutest little place. And the cheese is out of this world. I just bought a sweet cheese with papaya and it was out of this world. I had to make myself stop eating it. The service is always friendly here and it is very clean. It's a place I always take friends when they are in town.
google avatar

Yelp
I have not the words to describe how sad I am that my parking situation allowed only a brief snack here and not an entire meal. Even with the food and wine on the run, I wish to extend my thanks to my lovely server, who put a little extra speed into my order without losing the flair of the place. I will return on my next visit, for a more leisurely time and a chance to sample the namesake dish.

Yelp
Great venue! If you love cheese then you will love The Welsh Rabbit. Beautifully crafted cheeses with a variety of wine pairings. Hostess was a bit standoffish upon arrival but she ended-up as our server, and the service was good. We ordered the sampler platter, enough for two. This included creamy Brie, Lavender & Honey Chervil and a sharp cheddar cheese accompanied with grainy mustard, olives, sweet pair slices, french baguette and handmaid crackers. Really Nice!!! Another "Must Visit" in Fort Collins!!
google avatar

Yelp
My new favorite store in Fort Collins. Gorgeous decor, friendly and helpful staff, and of course...an amazing selection of cheeses and accoutrements! They've also just started selling bouquets of beautiful, local wildflowers! Personal favorites: Primadonna, Honey Goat, Oussau Iraty.
google avatar

Margaret P.

Yelp
I love the Welsh Rabbit! Great selection of imported and domestic cheese with folks knowledgeable about their products and willing to share their knowledge with you.

Yelp
We stopped here Easter weekend to try it out after seeing something on Facebook about it. We were very impressed with the cheese and wine selections. We ended up ordering 2nd and 3rd rounds of cheese. We actually found the Welsh Rarebit plate to be a bit over powering with mustard flavor and not melty enough with the cheese. Different than what we're used to. We probably should have only ordered a few of those to try it out. However, some of us liked it and don't let it stop you from trying it too - just know it will be powerful!
google avatar

Yelp
What a beautiful venue. The charm of this restaurant is unbelievable, with a fantastic vibe. We stopped by for lunch on my birthday and had the most wonderful cheese plate. We tried 6 cheese and 2 salamis, with bread and olive oil on the side. The cheeses we ordered were all $2-3 each, so our bill wasn't that big. Everything we ordered was delicious! I was completely satisfied and cannot wait to return. I absolutely loved the decor and ambience of this place. The server was super friendly and helpful as well. Because we went mid-day, I didn't order a wine flight. However, I have heard they are a great pairing for this kind of meal and I can't wait to return to try it!
google avatar

Yelp
Check this place out! It's quiet and relaxed but edgy and cool at the same time! All of the food is delicious and the wine is out of this world! I only wish I lived in Fort Collins so I could frequent here often!
google avatar

Maranda T.

Yelp
Loved this little shop definitely have to stop in and try/buy some cheeses. They have a lot of options. Service was great. The lady helping was so sweet and knowledgeable.

Yelp
Such a cool shop, featuring a variety of cheeses, super friendly staff, and free samples. Perfect for putting together a picnic. I wish I lived closer.

Yelp
This was the perfect place for our mid afternoon stop while shopping. The place is adorable and in a great location. The selection of cheeses is amazing! The portions and prices where good and the bread was out of this world. We chose a salami from CA that was to die for and a prosciutto that paired perfectly with the manchego. I didn't get to put wine with our snack, which was my oun fault, as that would have completed this. All presented wonderfully with thinly sliced green apples on a piece of slate. The final add was a baked buffalo mozzerella, which came sizzling hot in a mini skillet. Atmosphere, presentation, and menu all perfect!
google avatar

Nathan R.

Yelp
If you love wine and cheese then this is the place for you! Some of the most interesting and delicious cheeses I've ever tasted have come from this place and the staff's wine pairing recommendations have never steered me wrong once. Non-cheese small plates are always lovingly prepared and delicious. Literally one of the friendliest staffs I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. Love everyone who works here. Never had a bad experience. If you don't love wine and cheese, then...what are you doing on Yelp?
google avatar

Dean S.

Yelp
I have found my favorite place to have my gift baskets made! The folks here really know what they are doing and pair up cheeses and content to go with the different types of wine and drink (Vodka) I bring in. Thank you for the great customer service and taking such good care of me!
google avatar

SoCal R.

Yelp
I was by myself and only one there last week. Normally i hate yelp but now...omg take your time people to enjoy a bite! This place brings that slow bites and enjoying simplicity with extravagance but at a worthy price! I sat there talking to the lovely server as she polished the wine glasses and the owner(which i didnt know until after my experience) created my dishes with ease...my staycation was amazing and the welsh rabbit is a place to go!!!
google avatar

Victoria F.

Yelp
Wow. We had an amazing experience here! By far the most professional and polite waiter I have ever had. The food was phenomenal. The wine that we ordered (house red) paired perfectly with the delicious cheese and cold cuts that we ordered. I love the atmosphere here, too! I like that the interior has a historical charm while being incredibly classy. The waiter was so kind to us and very welcoming. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and will be back.

Yelp
I've had a long-term relationship with dining in Fort Collins, and honestly, I feel like we've lost a little bit of that spark. Like two partners who are just co-existing, my heart longs for something more. My lustful eyes and taste buds wander to other exciting dining cultures, wishing my loyal Fort Collins industry would change. Just as I feel like I'm settling for "good enough," something magical happens and the spark is back. Flavor and atmosphere wrap around my heart and tongue like the sweet embrace of a soul mate and I'm reminded of how much I really do love my relationship with the Fort Collins dining community. After a streak of mediocre food and bland reviews, The Welsh Rabbit Cheese Shop has pulled me back into my love affair with dining out in Fort Collins. The Welsh Rabbit Cheese Shop is one of the most charming spaces in Old Town. Located on Pine Street just around the corner from Rasta Pasta, the Hines Family (husband and wife Dean and Nancy, and Dean's brother, Nate) opened this culinary delight early this spring. Nate has an extensive background including a culinary degree and years as an Executive Chef. While they offer a constantly changing selection of cheeses, The Welsh Rabbit Cheese Shop is more than just a place to purchase artisan craft-cheese to take home. They are also a Bistro with wine flights, olives, freshly baked baguettes, and chareuteries to add to your cheese flight tasting. This makes it a perfect place for an intimate culinary experience, and even more so, a wonderfully romantic location for a date.
