The Restaurant at Guantánamo Bay | Bon Appétit

"At a London hotel where he worked as a kitchen porter, the routine staff meal of dry-baked chicken thighs was transformed when he improvised a dish of chicken with olives, spices, and lemon that became known as “Ahmed’s Chicken” and an immediate staff favorite. The success showcased his skill with seasoning and pulses, led the head chef to entrust him with vegetarian requests, and within weeks allowed him to move from sink duty to cooking full-time, effectively launching his culinary career." - ByTim Wild

I had the most amazing roast at the Westberry Pub — absolutely delicious and perfectly cooked. Natalia was incredible, so attentive and welcoming, which made the whole experience even better. The atmosphere was a 10/10, warm and vibrant, making it the perfect spot to relax and enjoy a great meal. Highly recommend!

Went to what should be our local as this is not far from where we live just don't get the chance to visit very often. Had a wonderful time with the family, very kid friendly. Wonderful service from the staff members who were all very attentive and looked after us through the visit. Sunday roast was lovely too, the Yorkshires are massive (1 minute overdone, but still delicious with the gravy). Will def be going back, hopefully fish supper next time, if available. Best to book table in advance if going for busy period.

The other day I went to visit a friend of mine in North London, and we decided to stop by a pub for a couple of drinks and some food. We came across The Westbury, and the atmosphere honestly blew me away. It’s a warm, cozy pub with lovely staff. Natali and the lady with bangs were incredibly friendly and made sure we had everything we needed. I’ll definitely be coming back to this pub again!

I am going to combine a few experiences at The Westbury in one review. I visited the place for the first time something like two years ago. This has been a very good experience with tasty, proper food and adequate service. That's why I visited again a few months later and I had once again a good experience. One year ago I moved into the neighborhood and I remember visiting near christmas, where the food wasn't as good and the service was kind of off (or at least very basic). Something like two months ago I decided to visit again and also invite a friend. The employee who served us acted as he was making us a favor.. Moody, not smiling for not even a split second, he would try not to interact at all with us (even if we had questions about the beers). We both decided not to have any food and we left after we finish with what we had order. I really don't think I am going back, even if I'm literally only 2-3 minutes walking from my place.

I often trundle past here, when it's not open. Finally, I get the chance to pop in. It's quite a pleasant venue. It offers good food and booze. It's not exactly out of the way, but I don't think it gets seriously over crowded. So I think you can always expect this to be a venue to enjoy a quiet drink and chat

Funky little pub - clean and light. Great selection of ales and a chill atmosphere. I was there on a Sunday when the roast was on. The Yorkshire puddings looked the part so I’ll have to come back hungrier. I would advise booking in advance as the tables were all taken. Lovely staff also.

I've been coming to the Westbury for years (before its renovation too) and it is our favorite local. Never had bad service, the staff are always friendly and helpful. The food has always been good and I think I've tried everything from the menu at least twice, Sunday roasts are spot on and they have a great selection of larger, ales and ciders on draft, which change frequently (and always a few local brews). It's child and dog friendly, with pub quizzes and live music every week... All-round a perfect local.

My mum loved the Sunday roast, though my husband found his a bit dry. I really love the mushroom and cheese wellington. Great atmosphere and nice comfy place.

Yelp
The Westbury, a pub I have known for past 40+ years, yet it has never been as good as it is now. We came for late supper on a Saturday and found the place full in a family atmosphere with great menu selection. I had the fish and chips as had been dying for a good one since I got back from across the big pond for a short period. The food is wonderful and if it keeps up this place will be on the map for great food guide. We were nicely entertained by a duo with Brazilian music and some classic rock. Great place to hang out.

Yelp
We came here for leaving drinks and snacks on a Friday night. It's pretty cool as a local pub for this area and a nice surprise given that Turnpike Lane is still up and coming. The bar had an excellent range, including organic spirits from a London distillery. Service was polite and reasonably fast, but what has tipped this into 4 stars are the bar snacks. The nachos in particular were a good portion size with homemade guacamole and a healthy dollop at that! Well done folks..

Yelp
Really good food. Had caprese salad and lamb burger with side of seasonal veg. Also a glass of the Malbec. Really nice. Good service too, fast, well prepared and presented well. However, not very accommodating on dietary restrictions. Great experience

Yelp
Amazing atmosphere, modern decor, very welcoming staff and great food, I went here for a roast dinner and not only did the food come promptly it tasted great aswell. They also serve roasts until 8 which is quite unusual and when your a bit hungover the later the better. I would definitely recommend this pub for food, or just drinks. Has a nice spacious outside area aswell for when you fancy sitting outside on the sun.

Yelp
Wow well it's certainly a new looking pub but in the most strange of locations in the middle of anything really. So I suppose it's for locals. Good choice of beers though and I quite like idea of these random nice pubs that are found in unexpected places.

Yelp
The Westbury has just been given a massive facelift after being taken over by the same company who own the Brownswood near Manor House and The Jolly Butchers in Stoke Newington. Although I have only visited it once since opening (this week) it is safe to say that it's a positive addition to the scant choice of quality drinking holes close to Turnpike Lane tube, not including the new bars and The Salisbury on Green Lanes. A good selection of ales, beer and wine on the bar and food is to come. I have to admit it seems a little out of place to me but I think I may be a little delusional as to how much the area has actually changed! I hope it remains a genuine local whilst welcoming the newer members of the community.

Yelp
Good choice of drinks, but very average food for the price. Used to do amazing Sunday roasts here, but not any more. A nice place to go if you have loadsamoney and don't want to mix with the locals.

Yelp
A recently modernised gem. Great range of ales, cool decor, excellent home cooked food - so happy it's opened up.

Yelp
A really great roast dinner (beef and chicken both fantastic), great ambience and amazing dessert! Had a great time, even with young kids. Highly recommended.

Yelp
There aren't many decent bars in the area, in fact you have to go into Crouch End or Muswell Hill for a good pub. However, The Westbury is the best in the area. The owners have recently refurbished many parts of the pub and whilst it does remain a bit tatty it's still a great LOCAL boozer. Quiz night is good and they even have a jamming night with local musicians turning up for a session.

Yelp
We have lived in the area for many years and seen The Westbury Pub go through many changes. We went there today for Sunday lunch and we are very impressed with the whole thing. We love the new interior, the food was good and the atmosphere relaxed. The staff were friendly and efficient and generally we thought it was good value. We will definitely go back.
