I did a lot of research before our first trip to Boston and wanted to stay in a central place, where we had access to great food, shopping history and culture, entertainment, bars... And since we were traveling with two kids who like to feel spoiled once in a while, and so prefer hotels over Airbnb's I also wanted the hotel location to be safe, kid friendly, and fun. I also really wanted the family to stay somewhere near the infamous brownstone homes on the streets, lined with beautiful magnolia trees, as a personal bonus. After reading a bunch of blogs, I chose a Westin Copley place in Back Bay, and thankfully husband and kids thanked me! We couldn't be more happier.
The first thing we noticed when we arrived was that for Boston newcomers, its location is central and prime. Subway and train access are just a block away. It is right across the street from the historical Boston Public library. It is diagonally across from Copely Square and Trinity Church. It was within a few blocks walking distance from Newberry and Marlborough brownstone building streets. Here can do some great shopping and light walking while people watching along the street park, and you can also find lots of monuments/statues along the way, or eat at the local restaurants/have a drink at the local bar. It is a short drive (you can also take a scenic route walk) to Fenway Park. A short 10 minute drive across a Charles River you'll get to MIT and Harvard. Another short 12 minute drive up north you'll find yourself in the North End, and around that area also the start of the freedom trail. 40 minute drive without traffic you can take a day trip up further north to Salem, Gloucester, Manchester by the Sea, and Rockport. We didn't make it to Seaport or South Boston but they aren't too far away either.
Now onto the actual hotel. Checking in was easy. The entire staff (from valet to door to reception area to concierge and housekeeping) were super friendly and hospitable and were throughout our stay as we went in an out of the hotel. I was able to use mobile key access via my Marriott, Bonvoy app, and all the little amenities like extra pillows, etc. were in our room as requested. There is a $25 per day destination fee, but it is treated as credit so just use $25 per day at the gift shop, restaurant or bar/ café, and/or room service and charge it to your room. Disclaimer: it is not accumulated so use this daily. Rooms are clean spacious. We were on a high (30th) floor and we had an amazing view of the river and city. Nighttime views are beautiful as well. The Hotel has the famous Brazilian Fogo de Chão and a cool hotel bar with live music, in addition to walk with that connects to Copley Place Mall, and the shops at a Prudential Center!
A very, very special, thank you to the hotel manager Irene Y. who we met during our time at the Weston club. As members we are allowed access to the hotels 5th floor, which is a designated Westin Club floor. Here there is a 24 hour hotel gym and a spacious area to relax, work/ read, watching TV. On certain days the Westin Club serves breakfasts - I'm talking bagels, fresh oatmeal, eggs, cereals, fruit, etc., and an even better early evening appetizer item, selection like hotdog, dumplings.
During one of our breakfasts Irene came to our table. She kindly introduced herself, made sure we were being taken cared of, and gave us some great touring tips. Her customer service... which included her professionalism, friendly demeanor, extensive traveling knowledge, and natural ability to help make my kids feel like VIPs is one of the main reasons why we will more than likely stay at Westin Copley again when we return to Boston!
Even though there is a hefty daily parking fee, we didn't have a problem in that department as we were able to find ample metered parking - on a holiday weekend! Obviously we will be back.
