Yelp
Let me start by saying that if you read any of my other Yelp reviews, you'll see that I'm not a complainer. I look for the best in every restaurant, hotel, etc., but for this one, it was a fairly major disappointment.
- The reservation process:
I reserved through Booking.com at the "best" price I could find. It was a good price given the expected level of resort, and I couldn't find a better price anywhere, including on the resort website. Fast-forward to one of my interactions with the manager on-site during my stay, she told me, "the hotel website is ALWAYS the best price. No gimmicks." ...and yet, the hotel website was a few hundred dollars more expensive than Booking.com. I'm not sure how the manager figures it's cheaper on the resort website when it's not cheaper, but just something to factor in.
- Pre-Arrival
Before we arrived, we received an email explaining COVID procedures. They mentioned that they didn't clean the rooms once we arrived, that linens, towels, trash, etc., must be placed outside for a contact-less exchange, etc. We were good with the expectations, but noted that they claim to do deeper cleans in between stays to ensure guests are in a "clean" room. This is where the disappointment really started.
- Our room
No bells and whistles. It was a tidy room. However, we noticed that there were 4 towels despite a reservation for 7 guests (it was a 2 bedroom suite). One miniature bottle of wash, shampoo, and conditioner in each bathroom. If you travel, you know that one bottle is basically 1 person, single use...maybe 2. So 7 people expected to share 2 mini bottles of wash, shampoo, and conditioner. Obviously, it means we will be calling for more, which obviously means "contact" increases. Irritating, but oh well. Then, we open the door to the balcony. I'm not kidding you when I say it was literally the dirtiest balcony I've ever seen in any hotel I've ever stayed in. Dirt everywhere and cobwebs everywhere. I wish I had taken pictures it was so bad. When I called housekeeping to clean it, they sounded irritated, but when the guy showed up to clean it, he was grossed out and started taking pictures himself so he could show the manager. It took him 30 minutes to clean the balcony, so keep in mind that a quick broom sweep takes 30 seconds, so 30 minutes should give you an indication of how dirty it was. After he left, the manager called to apologize and said that as a courtesy apology, she wasn't going to charge the resort fee. I told her that Booking.com already charged the resort fee so her not charging it wouldn't do anything, she argued that the resort fee is charged at the property and not through Booking.com. This is a slight digression because Booking.com claims that the final booking price includes the resort fee, and the resort claims the resort fee is never charged until you arrive. In theory, you are paying a "resort fee" to Booking.com AND ALSO to the resort because neither is clear on the fee until you've already been charged. Anyway, we argued for a minute and I accepted her apology and the fact that I wouldn't see a resort fee on my bill (that I didn't expect to see in the first place), so I was good to go. By then, it was dinner time. Our room had a small kitchen so I got out some stuff to make a sandwich. The knife in the block had food stuck to it. Gross. I ended up hand washing everything I intended to use. Spiders in the room, webs everywhere- clearly no "deep" or any other cleaning. I'm convinced hotels aren't even cleaning during Covid despite claims to clean ever deeper than before.
- Breakfast
The reservation included "full breakfast" for all guests. The resort tried to claim it was limited to 2 people per room (2 rooms so total of only 4 free breakfasts). Since 3 of the people in our group had to cancel at the last minute, it worked out, but the resort tried to argue that breakfast wasn't included for everyone even though our printed registration for the room said it was. We were given vouchers and told it was carry out only - not a problem. Instead of "full" breakfast, however, we were allowed to pick 3 items off of a menu of 8 items...juice, coffee, milk, mini pastry, fruit, yogurt, egg burrito, and/or egg sandwich. Not quite full breakfast, but whatever. And, it didn't change the entire stay. And the egg burrito was filled with a pepper mixture (like fajitas) and the egg sandwich was like a baked egg with some weird seasoning...but again, whatever. Kids who don't eat except pancakes, waffles, bacon, toast, scrambled eggs, cereal, etc., won't be enjoying breakfast.
- Service
Staff acted irritated by every single request. Towels? A trashbag of 5 at the door. Body wash or shampoo? 7 body washes and 1 shampoo in a bag at the door. I asked if they had floss and they said no but did have a sewing kit...then they charged us for it. lol. I would not recommend this place. It's a great location, but service sucks. It's dirty.
Apparently I'm out of room on the review :(
