Yelp
We were seeking nothing but clean, away from creepy alleys, and comfort. This was THE right hotel and I felt like a baller for choosing a good hotel this time! It's frightening when you visit a new city and don't know what type of hotel you will be ending up in. The internet can be deceiving!
So as we arrived by taxi from MSY for a flat rate of $36.00 (cheaper than Uber or Lyft, $56), we got confused on where to find the Lobby to check-in. It's on the 11th floor btw! Some may think it's an inconvenience but, look on the brighter side, unfortunately there are crazies on drugs in Nola and this is true because we have seen it. They won't make it pass the lobby because they have private elevators for only within the hotel. That's a wonderful safety measure!
The check in was a breeze and they will charge your card for a security deposit which wasn't announced to us prior but that's okay. We aren't going to through a rage in our room, this time. (Just kidding!)
Our room, 1919, was right by the elevators and had the perfect view with half river/city!!! Also, you will never wait for long to get into the elevator. We were very pleased with it all and it made our overall trip feel much more enjoyable.
Imagine waking up to a sunset by the river where you can view it from your room. It's breathtaking!
The room was clean, they put a plastic bag over the remote, the bathroom was very clean and equipped with extra toilet paper and tissues, the bed was very comfortable, and the couch was so cute!
I also have to thank the gentleman who noticed a crazy take the elevator to the lobby, as we entered the elevator the crazy guy walked back into the elevator, and the tall gentleman who works at the desk joined us to make sure we were safe. That was just AMAZING! Afterwards, on that rainy day I asked if they had umbrellas and he brought two down for us!
Parking: $33 plus tax to self park. Check with the prices for Canal Place which I think is a bit cheaper and has an elevator connecting to the hotel lobby. But, all parking is so expensive in the area. I passed a hotel that asked for $48. Wow! We flew and didn't rent a vehicle this time. You're better off walking, using the streetcars, or Lyft.
To improve my stay in the future, I'd hope to see our mini fridge not freeze our food or drinks(my soda cans exploded, sadly), and a solution to their slamming doors (you will hear yours and everyone else's doors slam).
Not that the other hotels weren't great options as well but, we were extremely happy with our choice with The Westin. You are between the strip of Canal St. and the direction towards French market, quarter, and more within .5 miles. This is perfectly walkable and not too far to go back and take a mid-day nap.
