9 Outdoor Bars In Miami To Drink Outside - Miami - The Infatuation

"Wetlab is an unremarkable bar in a remarkable place: it’s slightly hidden inside UM’s Marine and Atmospheric Science campus with a view of Biscayne Bay that makes even the priciest hotels in town jealous. Even though it’s on UM property, it’s completely open to the public Wednesday-Friday. Finding this place feels like you’re on a scavenger hunt and you will get lost at least once, walk past classrooms, smile as you remember your own college days, then cringe as you remember more of them, then sprint before the memory of that time you went streaking for free Jimmy John’s comes flooding back. You’ll find this place eventually, though, and be glad you did—especially if you come for a sunset beer on their outdoor patio." - ryan pfeffer

Where To Go Out When You're In Your 30s - Miami - The Infatuation

"When you were 26, you had conversations with strangers about ostensibly nothing until 4am. But now you crave substance, or at least a discussion about the podcast you’re listening to. Try your luck at WetLab. It’s slightly hidden inside UM’s Marine and Atmospheric Science campus, and often frequented by scientists and people who are down to talk about the disastrous state of our coral reefs (a topic you recently learned about in a podcast). There’s also a waterfront view, which is convenient because appreciating nature is now part of your personality. And the bar usually closes by 10pm, not that you’ll stay long enough to know that." - ryan pfeffer

Amazing Place, Nice Prices, Delicious Food and Good Views facing the sea

Brett Ury

Google
This hidden gem belongs to the University of Miami. However, it’s open to the public Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Amazing waterfront, location and a huge selection of beers both on tap and in cans and bottles. Friendly staff and just a great vibe. Go when they have live music and it’s even better.

Oliver Licul

Google
Such a nice place to go for a beer on Friday, see the sunset and enjoy some live music. Did I mentioned that the prices are really good?

Ronald Ricardo

Google
Love this place. Great sunset views an great beer selection. The bar and the kitchen are separate so you'll have to make separate orders (kind of a hassle). But this is simply a University of Miami bar serving the Marine Science school so they dance to the tune of UM regulations. They are closing for late Jan/Feb as COVID is once again forcing the school back to remote.

Great views, great beer selection on tap and college atmosphere

Yelp
Love this spot for a casual weeknight sunset session! Service is quick and friendly. Their food and drinks are a great price and the ocean view is unbeatable.

Yelp
We live this place. One of the best dive bars in miami. Mostly run by grad students, it's a chill waterfront vibe with a great beer selection, reasonably priced bar foods, and nice people. Always a great time. Hope this place continues to stay wavy.

Yelp
I have been here a number of times and love it more each visit. You can expect fantastic views, chill vibes, and great beer. If you're looking to escape the chaoticness of Miami but still want a nice view, Wetlab is a must

Yelp
Great place to have a drink but eat somewhere else. Honestly I loved being next to the water and it also makes for a cool environment on a hot day. It's hard to find an outside area where you won't sweat in Miami. However, we came after work and we were hungry and I just didn't enjoy any of the food. The green goddess was inedible to me and the nachos were just a giant blob and we really couldn't split them apart. The people there were super chill and it was easy to get a glass poured. I would definitely recommend this spot to chill and drink and enjoy the views - just don't come hungry.

Yelp
New favorite bar in Miami! Run by UM grad students but open to all, the brews are cheap and the views are stellar. Indoor outdoor space with lots of seating located on the Rickenbacker, facing southwest over the bay. We sipped beer on the water and watched stingrays go by. Good menu with lots of local beers at reasonable prices. Also saw some wines. Only complaint is the food, our nachos were pretty bad. There's a full menu though so I would just order differently next time. Free parking, though you have to pay the toll to get to KB. No definitive closing hours, they just kinda close up whenever people stop coming.

Yelp
Sunset Sips and Crafty Bites: The Wetlab at the University of Miami's Marine Campus Nestled on the University of Miami's marine campus, adjacent to the Miami Seaquarium on Virginia Key, The Wetlab inside the Salt Waterfront restaurant is a hidden gem that combines the laid-back charm of a craft beer bar with the stunning backdrop of Miami's scenic beauty. Operated primarily by graduate students, The Wetlab opens its doors Wednesday through Friday around 5 pm, offering a perfect midweek escape. The main allure of this unique watering hole lies in its unrivaled view of Key Biscayne and Biscayne Bay, making it a contender for the title of having the best sunset views in all of Miami. As you enter, the maritime-themed decor sets the tone for a relaxed and inviting atmosphere. The staff, predominantly composed of knowledgeable graduate students, adds a friendly and approachable touch to the experience. Whether you're a craft beer enthusiast or a casual drinker, The Wetlab caters to all, providing a diverse selection of local craft breweries on tap and in cans. The beer menu, a highlight in itself, showcases the rich variety of Miami's craft beer scene. From hoppy IPAs to smooth stouts, there's a brew to suit every palate. And if you find yourself with an appetite, fear not--they offer some of the typical bar food fashion. Or you cold walk over to the Salt Waterfront Restaurant side and enjoy a meal from a menu offering a tempting array of bites that pair perfectly with your chosen libation. The true magic of The Wetlab, however, unfolds on the outdoor patio. As the sun begins its descent over the bay, patrons are treated to a mesmerizing display of colors, transforming the sky into a canvas of warm hues. The combination of good company, great beer, and the breathtaking view makes The Wetlab an ideal spot to unwind and connect with friends. In essence, The Wetlab is more than just a craft beer bar; it's an experience that captures the essence of Miami's beauty. Whether you're a student, a local resident, or a visitor, this hidden gem offers a unique and unforgettable setting to savor a cold brew while witnessing one of the city's most spectacular sunsets. Cheers to The Wetlab--a must-visit for those in search of a perfect blend of nature's beauty and craft beer culture in Miami.

Yelp
On March 1st, 2019 Jenn W. hosted her first happy hour UYE gathering! my first time meeting her with it being a sublime gathering of friends including Isis N., Edwin P. AshleyMarie O, Jen W, Paco, Frank E. And Veronica J. Overview: Friday happy hour had great views of the bay, great place to watch sunsets filling the panoramic views, relaxed vibe with the live band, great local brews available, even ice buckets available with your favorite beers. Can I say more? Jenn picked out a nice spot outside in the back next to the wall overlooking the bay. Wow what a view! The paradise vacation ambience was incredible at this U of M campus (albiet hard to find as a first timer). Live Band was really good pumping out 70's country rock. Tall Boys Band, since 1994, know how to entertain the crowd! Beer: Lots of local craft breweries on tap and in cans! From Wynwood Brewing to J. Wakefield, Concrete Beach, Biscayne Bay, Tarpon River, Tank, and much more! AsI stated above, Ice bucket beers are available, just let them know how to fill it! A great sharing time with friends and meeting Jenn's ederly dog. What a zen person taking care of her dog. Parking: Don't park in the garage, just park outside the gates and walk in but it will be a little disorienting walking through between building to fine this tucked away spot. Overall a good getaway unwidning feel which would love to come back to! Thank you Jenn for highlighting this spot!

Yelp
Wetlab and Salt are the perfect partnership. The vegan crab cake...yum! As a DC local, does it taste like lump blue crab cake? Heck to the no! It's made out of artichoke for crying out loud!? Is it tasty as an artichoke sandwich with fries? Heck yeah! Do yourself a favor a share a few pitchers with friends and newly made friends from Salt while you enjoy the tasty tots and titillating conversation at Univ of Miami. I love how passionate conservationists can be and in the Uni environment, it feels like we are having vegan "shwarma" with the submariner Avengers. Just go for your dive trips @Divers Paradise in Key Biscayne and then plan to hang with the crew at Wetlabs and Salt.

Yelp
I came here last Friday for Jenn W's UYE. I used to come here years ago for drinks with fellow UM Alina so when I saw a UYE pop up I was in for a return engagement. Located inside the Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science (RSMAS) this dive bar has a gorgeous location, cheap drinks and good music (70s country rock band was playing this night). As I walked in I was amazed at how this place had grown in size compared to the times I used to go. The bar is run by UM students so you get the college bar vibe although this night there was a good mix of college students, business people and just regular folk having a good time. The view from the outside area is breathtaking with the sea breeze, boats passing by and the sunset..just a perfect beach bar What really seals the deal is the cheap drinks sold here..for $20.00 you get a bucket and your choice of 5 beers, and it's not your typical bucket of Coronas, Miller Lite and Bud Light; here you get your choice of craft beers which I loved completely. Also the individual beers are cheap as well and in some cases you can keep the glasses or cups as a souvenir. Can't beat that anywhere This is such a hidden gem but once you locate it you will fall in love with it. I will definitely come back

Yelp
My goal at the "wettie" was to meet famed professor, Dr. George Milianaire http://www.yelp.com/user_details?userid=VatZipEmv3Wx5iQK0QL-pA. We were both PhD (playa hater degree) candidates at the University of Yelp Miami and now have the unique opportunity to work together on a National Institute of Dionysian Technology grant. In the fashion befitting a summa cum laude graduate, the co-principal investigator was already 'working' when I arrived. He was field sampling what I hypothesized was a full glass of iced tea, turned out to be a "triple" of Dr. Jack Daniels' inebriating fluid. The experiment of the evening was to record the amount of alcoholic solutions two almost non-human primates could imbibe, without succumbing to severe liver trauma. Needless to say we collected a considerable amount of data. The alcoholic chemical engineers prepare solutions so damn cheap that even post doctoral pepper students can afford them (it is on the first floor of a research building after all). Being scientists, we are much too busy to eat balanced diets. The metabolic kitchen satisfies with a menu that share two taxonomic properties in the food hierarchy...everything is fried and cost-effective (and sometimes free). The function of the Wetlab is to provide research teams with the necessary lab supplies to conduct on-site fermented sugar studies. You can feel comfortable buying a round, without having to call to increase your credit limit first. No matter how tight your fiscal budget is, you can certainly afford $15 of funding to get completely mashed up. Thank you for reading our research summary and expect that all of you will read our paper -- "The role of molecular gastronomy paired with fermented alcohol solutions in the human primate behavioral system". Best Regards, Dr. Rony Moral-Less, PHD, PharmD, Chair of the Department of Zymurgy, Yelp Center for Dipsophilia, Pharmaceutical and Culinary Sciences.

Yelp
Such a fun a pretty place to enjoy a drink, bite and the sunset. The place is pretty hard to find and the bar is pretty small but it is beautiful. The food is good however it is kinda like a cafeteria vibe, not sit down order etc. perfect for a day after the beach or a walk across the bridge. Drinks are surprisingly priced well (for Miami) but only wine beer and bottled cans. I got the burger and it was really good. The live music was also awesome
google avatar

Cassie P.

Yelp
Got great weather and just need a place to relax? Head on over to Wetlab. I always knew this place existed but probably would have never been able to find it without following three unpretentious looking people from the parking lot into the area who I could tell were the pool-playing type. When we entered the cafeteria-looking room, I still wasn't quite sure if I arrived. Then I looked on the dock where I saw a couple familiar faces and the gorgeous backdrop that was Key Biscayne. Add in the music from another patron jamming on his guitar, pitchers of beer, and a few snacks, and you have the perfect afternoon. I'm definitely planning on coming back here again. With good company, this place makes for a great time away from the bright lights and glitz that runs rampant in Miami.
google avatar

Marqus R.

Yelp
It would appear that I may really be out of step with my fellow Yelpers on this one, but there are only two good things I can say about it. Cheap drinks and a nice view, other than that it's nothing but a bland school (almost high school looking) cafeteria with an after thought looking six seat bar. As for food, basically nonexistent except for what you might find in a bag from what would come out of the likes of a vending machine. The outdoor patio presents a nice view, but is really in need of some awnings, a thorough cleaning, some sprucing up and a little colorful décor. Like the cafeteria itself, the patio is bland with an institutional presents about it. The place is totally void of having any panache or pizzazz to it. So, have I seen better? Yes, a lot better.

Yelp
If you're clever enough to find it, then you're cool enough to have a beer here. Unequivocally, the best bar in Key Biscayne proudly located on Cane territory in a perfectly situated waterfront location that proves Miami can still keep it boho chic. They're open Tue/Wed/Thur/Fri from 5 till about 10:30. Its ran by PhD Hospitality Students at UM so walking through a school campus to get to a bar is definitely quirky in its own right. I do suggest parking inside the gate as it closes earlier than the bar does. Plus, the garage spots are free after 4pm which isn't really advertised. It's definitely a chill low-key vibe and the perfect laidback spot to enjoy a sunset and a cold brew. No liquor here but the beer list is pretty varied so I'm sure you'll find something suitable for your style. Totally makes the perfect spot to start your night out. Luna was the bartender that served us and she was extremely kind and friendly. I can't wait to come back.
google avatar

Alyssa V.

Yelp
This place is very cute and the view is incredible from the very large patio facing the water. All the bartenders are super helpful and nice and it has a really chill vibe (which is generally pretty hard to find in Miami). The hours are pretty wonky (closes at 8 on Wednesday and Thursday) and there have been a few times where I have wanted to go on a Wednesday or Thursday but figured by the time I made it through the traffic from the Gables it'll be closed, so that's my only real gripe. Beer selections are solid and SO CHEAP and they even have some hardwater. If you can make it for the sunset on a Friday night, you're in for a real treat.
google avatar

Maria A.

Yelp
Sometimes you find a place that is so cool, beautiful, so unruined by the pretentiousness that encircles it and most of Miami. Ouch, yeah I said it. It's almost with a heavy keyboard that I write this review and then I remember that much like beauty favorite bars are in the eye of the beholder. Maybe others won't like the old Miami, low maintenance feel, maybe people want to pay 3 or 4 times more for the same drink, maybe people want to pay for parking, maybe not everyone likes water views... and then I ask myself who I'm kidding and decide that even at the risk of spoiling my newly found favorite bar I must yelp it. I crossed the causeway last Friday, to check out the Wet Lab never suspecting I'd find my new love. Parking was simple and free. I walked through academic buildings glancing at the familiar bulletin boards that dot campuses everywhere advertising rooms for rent and part-time jobs. However, I noticed signs for boats for sales along with cars. Boats for sale on a school bulletin board? Toto, we aren't in Kansas anymore. I entered a cafeteria reminiscent of any school cafeteria with the odd almost fluorescent white/yellow lighting and mandatory colorful mural. And then as I got closer to the glass doors I realized there was a pool table... next to a foosball table... next to a half busy bar with attentive bartenders. WHAT?! Where was I? What is this place? I walked outside and there before me was Key Biscayne and the blue waters of Biscayne Bay. At this point I heard the angels' sweet song, a chorus of cherubims singing Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Later I walked over to discover the prices, I did a double take, and even took a picture. Prices started at $2.50 for the vodka special. That's right 2.50. YES $2.50 and went as high as $3 for beer, $4.25 for premium drinks, maybe $25 for a bottle of champagne. Oh dear South Beach how I suddenly loathed you and your bottle gouging ways. So... there you go. You now know where you can find me on Fridays sipping a drink, taking in the view, enjoying the breeze, wishing I hadn't shared my little piece of paradise and hoping just hoping you won't like it even half as much as I do. Anthony Bourdain, how do you do this... Sometimes bars are just refuges, for drinks, for thoughts, for moments, of silent meditation and conversations that have no to be continued at the end...

Yelp
Well, I've finally been here (twice in one evening!). I get it. Trust me, I'd read Paul's review. I was fully prepared to not like the place - hey, Miami now has some pretty good bars. How great could a bare-bones bar in an atmospheric and oceanic sciences university campus be? Well, let's see. Start with the cheap beer, only marginally higher in price than if you bought it at the supermarket. Oh, and we're not talking about crap beer, either. These kids and profs are too smart to drink the fizzy yellow stuff. No, this is real beer...cheap real beer. For example - I started the evening with a mere $20 bill and a couple singles in my pocket, as I forgot to hit the ATM. Yes, this is a cash only bar. Almost any other place in Miami not named Zeke's, if you show up with $22, you're screwed. One Andrew Jackson doesn't go very far in this town. Or so I thought. How is it that I could have a Southern Tier Double IPA (draft), a Cigar City Jai-Alai, a Breckenridge Vanilla Porter, and a Guinness.....fork over $20, and still have a few bucks left over, net of tips? And here's the real coup....you're not just getting cheap beer, you're getting cheap beer with a view. Go to the patio, look to your right, and see the entirety of South Biscayne Bay stretched out before you. Did I mention that from that vantage point, the sun sets behind that bay? Of course, this place isn't cool. It doesn't exemplify what outsiders think Miami is. It has more of a 1963 Miami feel. Or maybe even earlier. You could have been sitting at the Wetlab's location in 1930, and aside from the Bear Cut bridge not being there, it would have looked nearly the same. This place was being talked about seemingly every day back when I first joined Yelp. I was skeptical...................but yeah, I get it.

Yelp
Please don't beat me up too badly my fellow yelpers, but I gotta disagree with most of you on this one and only give it 2 stars for "Meh, I've experienced better". I went to Wetlab with a group of 8 co-workers on a Friday night. One of them had found it on the internet and heard they had cheap drinks, and since it had good reviews on Yelp, I said "Sure, let's go for it!". First, we had a fair amount of difficulty finding this place. There's no signage for it anywhere, even on the campus where it's located. I asked one of the students in the parking lot if she'd heard of it. Luckily she said "Sure, I know where it is, are you meeting one of the students here??" and she took me back and showed me where this bar is located. I'm thankful I found her. If I hadn't, I'd probably still be looking for the place! I guess I was expecting a different experience, but on a Friday night this wasn't really what I was looking forward to...This bar is located at the rear of the campus. You reach it by walking between and around a few buildings, boats, rusted anchors, pallets and cages full of buoys and other paraphernalia they use for their studies and classes, and you then enter and walk through one of the school buildings. You'll finally come to the bar which is basically located in the corner of a large open school cafeteria. The lights were on at full intensity so it was very bright inside. The only food available were small bags of chips and popcorn, though they will order in pizza from one of the local restaurants until 9p.m. if you ask. The bar closed at about 10:00 on the Friday night we were here. The only things they did have going for them IMO were the cheap drinks - I bought a pitcher of IPA for $9. A friend wanted a mixed drink and he got a vodka and tonic for $4. Also, when you go outside on the patio area, there is a nice view of the bay - no city skyline or boats or anything, just wide open water, clouds and some docks in the far off distance. Yes, they did have a pool table and a Foosball table, but with the fluorescent lighting glaring from overhead, it was too bright and there was no real "atmosphere" to the place. The music was provided via a few computer speakers that were sitting on top of a refrigerator. Sorry if this review seems prudish. No one can say I don't like some other "out of the ordinary" bars in the area (I gave Harvey's at the American Legion 4 stars and Jimbo's 5). That being said, Wetlab was just too much of a stretch for me. Dim the lights, add some atmosphere, post some signage so people can find the place and have some access so you don't need to walk through an institutional building or sit in a cafeteria where it feels that a crowd of people should be arriving at any moment to eat lunch and maybe I'd give it another star.

Yelp
I really was avoiding this place at all costs. I had been invited by friends before and nothing really appealed, yeah it's cheap and yeah it's a tucked away hidden gem - but it's just a bar, right? No - Wetlab is more than that. It is a gorgeous view of Key Biscayne, something you can't really pay less to see anywhere else. It's a collection of interesting people, students, tourists, dogs, friends, drunks, etc. It's kind of like a VIP hidden location that someone has to guide you to in order for you to find it. And it's just so laidback and relaxing. Nothing pretentious, nothing to show off for and dress up, just here to have a good time and unwind. And the biggest perk of all, they are VERY generous with their liquor. Plastic cups come in the large size only and at the extremely reasonable price of $3 for yes, cocktails! Mojitos for $3, fruity drinks for $3, vodka cranberry for $3, there is not one other place I can think of in Miami that has such spectacular prices, and its even better cause it's right on the water. This is one of the places that definitely makes me appreciate Miami even more.

Yelp
I was crazy excited to check this place out after stumbling upon a mention of it on Yelp. I couldn't have picked a better night to go than last night. Get there around 530 and got a pitcher of Rogue Dead Guy for $9, ftw. The bartender said that they were closing early cause there was a private party. Quickly drank that pitcher and got another. Between the time that the bar closed and when we got the second pitcher, it was decided that we were staying for the private party. Win. The private party was for something. But I don't think we ever figured it out. They had free drinks. Thank you. They had a buffet. Thank you. I suppose I'll have to look at the free t-shirt I got to know what the party was for. Did I mention the view? Spectacular. The only other view that might match up is Shuckers. This has become my new favorite bar.

Yelp
Dear Heaven on a College Campus... I have gone to school, worked and played on the Key for a decade and a half... I have even (during high school days) done research on this campus and spent many hours in your library... HOW ON EARTH did I never know you existed?! This little oasis amidst textbooks, research labs, salt water, and Birkenstocks... I read the reviews and had to check you out. You are on my way to and from work, I have driven past your likes daily for 3 1/2 years. A CRIME I TELL YOU!!! So anyhow, the BF and I pulled the trigger and saved ourselves a ride in traffic to come and spend a little time acting like some college kids again. The bar is located inside of the campus Rec Center. There's a pool table and the bar. That's pretty much all that's inside. Maybe some tables. :) Then outside, more tables overlooking a gorgeous cove of Virgina Key. And the drinks... I know Maria gave you a break down, but can I just say that where else in the WORLD can you get a pitcher for $9 of PREMIUM beer?!?! They had my FAVORITE beer of all time on TAP! Rogue Hazlenut. And we got a pitcher for $9!!! And a pint was just $3 (cuz after the pitcher I had to have one more...)!! So Wetlab, you may not like it, but you've won me over and I will not go away any time soon. Get used to us!! FYI, you're getting only 4 stars because there's no food (not even a vending machine) anywhere near by. Drinking fail. You HAVE to have food if there's alcohol. That's like a cardinal rule! LOL So, ya, see you VERY soon. :) With adoration, SabrinaAnna* PS. CASH ONLY. Duh!

Yelp
A bar where I can take my baby. With a beautiful view of the water, cheap drinks, a pool table, Foosball and good friends. Where there is not only NOT a dress code, you would look stupid in heels. And, if you don't mind a little walk through a parking lot, beach access to a beach that has... wait for it... original Miami sand! Soft and yellowish. Even if you don't drink (like me) the conversation is great because these are some smart cookie college kids. It is just a place for a wonderfully good time, plain Jane style.

Yelp
So finally I make it out to the place everyone just rants about. We did have a hard time finding it like Paul W states, but finally we did and were very pleasantly surprised. First of all, I was hitting Wetlab right before a celebratory dinner with my hubby so I was WAY overdressed. Dress code here? Flip flops & shorts. This is good because you can be comfortable. You can order pizza to be delivered here which I thought kind of funny, and super cool. Cheap beer and pizza overlooking the water? Priceless. You can bring your own snacks, and the bar IS cash only. Don't think it is anything other than what it is - a place built for the college students of UM to hang out. If you want to have some good times with good friends bring them here for a super chill time. Maybe the amazing company we were in might have tainted my opinion of this place? I dunno.. but it was awesome.

Yelp
It's tough to write a review about this place, simply because one of the best attributes of the Wetlab is the fact that it is sort of a well kept secret, a hidden gem, undiscovered by the posers and wanna be's. ** Alert ** if you are one of the above, please don't read any further, keep driving and pull a u turn and head to Velvet Rope heaven, this one is only for the mere mortals. We had the incredible opportunity to share in some super cool conversation with some friends here, it was mellow, cool and some dude was in the corner rocking some pretty awesome tunes in his guitar, jamming with pals. All this awesomeness is best washed down with cool beer, beyond that, all that is left is chill. This is a huge reminder of why I live in Miami and enjoy every second of my life in paradise.

Yelp
Sorry, but I don't see the point. Maybe it's better in the day, but then who has that much time to visit it in the daytime in a weekday (unless if you're a student)? So, if you're already here, studying here, or just within 100 feets of here, then sure, I see the point of stopping by. Otherwise, picture this: After a long exhausting day, people would want to go relax and have a drink. Got it. And cheap drinks (cash only)... Cash, ah, um... as long as it's dirt cheap. And with bay views free for your eyes to gaze at... Hm... okay, it's sounding nice. Only thing is that at night, you literally can't really see anything. Uh? And when you step back into this "dive" bar from the pitch darkness, you're greeted with the eye-pain-inducing interiors that reminds you so much of a crappy cafeteria you've had back in school - which is all made apparent by the brightly-lit florescent lights... Oh Lord No... Please... no.... Well, it's not so bad... there's fake fish hanging on the wall - maybe to remind you of your school's "Seafood Surprise Fridays"? (no need to go further)

Yelp
Wonderful gem on the Virginia Key. It's really there for U of M students, but thankfully they don't discriminate. The bar itself is just really in the corner of a school cafeteria separated only by one billiard and one Foosball table. It looks like something you would find in frat house. But the drinks are very cheap and the view of the sunset outside is quite relaxing. You can sit outside on this patio that's raised over this tiny beach and enjoy your surroundings. It's a great way to unwind after a long day. Come check it out, dress down, and drink up.

Yelp
This is not a fancy bar. It's a place for $2.50 beers and waterfront views. In short, it's awesome. We headed here for a pre party before the Yelp Elite event, and despite getting a little lost trying to find the place, I was pleasantly surprised. We parked in a visitor spot out front, and asked a few people where to go as we walked through UM's marine campus. When we walked into the Commons building, it felt like I was back in college on my way to class. We headed for the cafeteria, and around the corner, we saw a bar and pool table. Jackpot. We ordered a few beers, some that I hadn't heard of before. Blue Moon and Stella are $2.50 for the bottle here. You can't beat that. We headed outside to sit and watch the sunset. Yep, that's right...cheap beer with one of the best views I've had at a bar. After the Elite event, we came back for round 2. We chatted with one of the bartenders and enjoyed the cool breeze on the patio. Seriously, why didn't I know about this place? I can't wait to come back.

Yelp
Nothing fancy but worth a look. Went there once with the usual yelp crowd and found it interesting. Great view of Key Biscayne and cheap beers. That's about it. Didn't like the tons of mosquitoes biting me. It's more of a hidden classrom/bar on campus... which would be considered weird or illegal in some countries.

Yelp
This hidden bar on miami's campus is awesome. It's likely gained some popularity from posts like this one or other links online but what a great spot! We weren't sure where to park and ended up parking across the street on the grass which gave us no issues, We had a tough time finding the bar and walking through random school buildings to get there but finally with some assistance found it - it's actually part of a functioning restaurant on campus. The bar itself appears to be run by grad students and most people sitting on the outside deck also seemed to be in the program too. But we didn't feel weird or out of place. Now the two best parts: 1. Awesome view of the water from the outside deck. Fun to watch the sunset and get the breeze. 2. 5 drinks cost $20!! We had beer/cider and each one was an amazing $4. That's pretty fantastic. Did I say awesome too? Cause those are awesome prices. The bartenders were friendly, the music was a quirky indie mix that later changed to what I dub "middle school hip hop" a la music I liked when I was in 6th grade (and not ashamed to admit I still like!) I'd recommend this place to anyone who wants a cool, casual indoor/outdoor bar with nice views and cheap drinks.

Yelp
Whoa! This has been on the wish list for some time now. Life just hasn't cooperated in timing and location till now. 1st) This is a special (brilliant) location intended for the student of this school and must be respected for its intended purpose. 2nd) A special niche location that brings an invigorating beer and liquor menu to a special "porch" overlooking Bear's Cut. 3rd) OMG they are so young....yikes!!! Yet, I completely enjoyed the company I shared and felt the awesome vibe of people coming together with a unique common denominator. Science and beer --- can it get any better? Oh yeah, Marine science and beer. Yay!!! Long Live RSMAS Wetlab!

Yelp
$3 Pina Coladas and free pool! That alone deserves 5 stars in my book. RSMAS regulars, thank you for letting UM's medical school invade your sanctuary every once in a while. You'd be welcome to come party with us on our side of the city, but sadly, Jackson has yet to open its own bar.

Yelp
I've only been here once before and this was a long time ago. This dive bar is right on the water where you can see boats coming to and from different locations. The view is one of the kind and that is what I like most about this dive bar in comparison to others that I've gone to. From what I seen, the reoccurring theme of most dive bars here in South Florida are always centered around the ocean but no dive bar does it best like this one. The casual ambience and cheap drinks will always have me coming back when I'm in the area. I'll definitely be visiting soon! Living in Florida and not getting a chance to drink by the water always seems like to a missed opportunity to me. They have several drink specials depending on the day of the week so if you live near here and are a college student, definitely come by!

Yelp
Wetlab is a great place for a reasonably priced beer and an amazing waterfront view! Located inside the Rosensteil School of Marine and Atmospheric Science, the bar is a bit hard to find but it's worth the search. It's very different from most bars in Miami and is definitely divey (it's in a school, so that shouldn't be surprising), but it's worth it for the view and the low key atmosphere. I was here most recently on a Friday night and they had a band playing live music. Beers were $4-$8 depending on the type when I was there, and they have a nice selection for such a small space. They have wine as well but I didn't have any so I can't speak to their selection or quality.

Yelp
It was a beautiful Thursday evening so decided to head to Lionesse Wetlab to have a drink. There did seem to be a limited selection of food items, but I only ordered a few craft beers. Quality Lionesse Wetlab has a small, but excellent collection of beers on tap. There is a blackboard listing the beers and on it is something regardless of your taste. The bar also has a few different wine options as well, but it definitely is a beer locale. Quantity Definitely solid pours of beers and from looking at the glass of wine another woman was enjoying, those pours are as generous as they come. Value Definitely some of the cheapest beer you are going to find in Miami. When you first see the blackboard you probably will assume it is all on special, but it stays that way all hours. Ambiance The Wetlab bar is a fantastic dive bar with beautiful views hidden away in the University of Miami Marine School. First thing you have to understand is you have to work for this bar, theres no clear place to park, no signs, and the campus is pretty deserted so you have to navigate it on your own. Just know that the bar is located in the back corner away from the Seaquarium right on the water. The bar itself is in a small corner of a bigger cafeteria space. It is underwhelming, but all that is necessary because you grab your beer and head to the deck. The deck overlooks the remainder of Key Biscayne as well as a small channel that runs through it. When the weather is beautiful you can sit out and watch as boats calmly pass by as well as enjoy birds hunt for their dinner. The music tends to be quiet and very relaxing and most of the chatter just comes from the regular graduate students that frequent the bar. Crowd On a Thursday evening the crowd was small but a bit rowdy. Almost everyone there was clearly a Marine student from the University of Miami, many of whom looked like they spent the day on a boat or at the beach. Definitely don't get dressed up as you will look out of place as everyone there is wearing flip flops and shorts. However, don't confuse the crowd for a college bar, it is much more laid back drawing its crowd from the Graduate population, not the new to drinking undergraduates. Service The bartender was extremely friendly and quick with pouring beers. The staff clearly knew most of the crowd and made their rounds. Seemed like everyone working was having as good of a time as those hanging out. Parking Parking can be confusing, but if you head out later in the evening there are plenty of spaces on the campus you can park in. However, the earlier you go you need to be cautious as they do monitor whether you have parking passes. However, the bar doesn't really open until 5 so you are probably safe. Also, expect the gate to be closed if you stick around later, but it opens automatically when you pull up from inside the school. Extra Lionesse Wetlab is definitely on the list of essential dives and hidden gems for Miami. It has beautiful views, cheap drinks, and a very relaxed atmosphere. Just keep in mind you have to work for it the first time and the hours are limited so always check to see if they are open before heading out.

Yelp
An except from the Yelp Bible by the Yelp Reverend. THE BLESSED WETLAB And the good Lord looked upon UM's School of Marine Science and blessed it with a bar. A Baaaaar with NOT your average choice of beers....This bar gave its people the gift of life. Good beer. Can I get an Amen? (Amen). The good Lord blessed Wetlab with great service. The bartender was so HEAVENLY offering floaters for pina coladas too all. Lastly, the Lord looked upon all those happy people with their drinks and decided that libations and good service were not enough; HE decided there was more needed. With the touch of his hand, HE bestowed upon wetlab a breathtaking view. With all said and done, HE smiled at his greatest happy hour location. Amen. Miami 1: 1-14

Yelp
To the die hard RSMAS Wetlab regulars, Yes, I'm a newbie. I intruded your sanctuary of unpretentious happiness this past Friday with my Juicy Couture slip dress and jeweled sandals. I apologize profusely for not tucking the "Miami" away, but tried to make up for it with lots of smiles and friendly banter. To our group's credit, we were meeting up a friend who works for RSMAS and thank jeebus for that, because it's not the easiest place to find. Walking through the halls to find the 'lab, I was transported to my college days...like other reviewers have mentioned, you have the standard fluorescent lighting, corkboards featuring places for rent and books on sale and in the very back of the cafeteria...NIRVANA. The second we found it we were greeted with a pool table (free to play, btw), really low-key, down to earth people wearing jeans and flip flops (more on the jeans later) and smiling bartenders who actually motioned for us to come closer to the bar so they could take our order. And order we DID. They seem to have a weekly rotating IPA draft on special for...are you sitting down? $2.50. On this particular night it was Jai Alai, but to my fiancee's excitement, they had something that made his little Texas heart sing - Shiner Bock for $2. But it doesn't end there! Rogue, Ragin' Bitch, Southern Tier 422, Blue Moon...all under $3! Are you sold yet?!?!? But wait...there's more... The drink specials for the evening were Bloody Marys ($2.50) and Sangria ($3), and the bartenders are most definitely generous with the pours. Don't expect much in the way of food (pretzels, popcorn)...but on this evening they ordered pizza for the bar and were selling slices at $1.50. I was also told by one of the regulars that it's totally ok if you order in or bring your own munchies to enjoy with the booze. Bonus. Besides the stellar prices on drinks and totally cool laid back crowd, you have an unobstructed, breath taking view of Virginia Key on their covered patio. Watching the sun set peacefully over the bay with a cold brew is one of the most relaxing and therapeutic ways to wind down after a killer week at work. Dogs are welcome to the bar, parking is free and a regular usually syncs up an iPod to crank out some tunes (not audible outside, though). A note about jeans: Apparently they have a pretty bad problem with noseeums on the patio and people get wicked bit up. I will say, we had absolutely no problems with that last evening. I had bare legs all night and didn't experience a single bite and wasn't bothered by any flys or bugs whatsoever. It was a spectacular night, but it's something to take note of for future visits. My only complaint is that I've spent 10 legal drinking years completely unaware of this place. Happy Hour FAIL. But no longer...WetLab, you may have become my new BFF.

Yelp
Ahoy, you've got to love higher education. My colleague Maria wanted to start off our evening by taking advantage of the weather, so we rounded up the troops and landed at the Wetlab, a campus watering hole. With a name like that, I imagined some preposterously douchey South Beach club, but this place was barely a bar, in the best possible way. It's cash only, but you don't need a lot of the green stuff, with $9 pitchers of beer coming at you. You could really spend a whole day and night here, and if we didn't have swelligant dinner plans, that could have happened. My only regret: not trying a shot called a Jäger Ball, and I've already said too much...

Yelp
Go away. Leave us alone. If you wanna enjoy the patio's lovely view, be aware that the no-see-ums may eat you alive. And the food is meh. But really. If you are looking for a bar to dress up for, pick up some ass or set a mood, MOVE ON. People here are too damn smart to fall for your bull, guido. Grad students, PhDs, lab peoples, the sort that actually read non-fiction books, so put away your dog-eared copy of Twilight, please, and don't bother trying to discuss your favorite reality TV show or vapid talentless socialite celebrity. If you're a Brooks Brothers wannabe, Brickell is over the bridge and to the north. And if you're an Ed Hardy-bedazzled t-shirt wearing, hair-gel lovin' HCWDB sort of guy, SoBe is a ten minute drive, 'k? So now that you've read this: I worked at RSMAS. It is a family. Everyone there is amazing, and this place will always be four stars in my book.

Yelp
Alright, I can bump it up to the 5th star now. On Friday nights, the Wetlab is now serving hot bar food. Last week they had 10 wings for $6, 10 meatballs for $4.50, mozzarella sticks for $5. I enjoyed me some wings. They were definitely worth it. I maintain hope that I haven't ruined this bar for the students at RSMAS. I've definitely noticed some more 'outsiders', but they're still welcome to enjoy the cheap drinks and scenic views. By the way, I apologize to whoever asked me for directions to the bar a week or 2 back. When I found out you were a yelper, I said, "oooh, fuck you." Sorry.

Yelp
How great is this place? How will you ever find it? I'll never tellllllll. cheap cheap beer. Stella for 2.50. Yes, you read that correctly. Company : be it a friend or a lovah or someone you want to impress- the view alone is priceless. follow the sharks and they shall lead you to glory.

Yelp
This place is not what it appears to be at first. You got to walk through an academic building and I didn't think we were in the right place. It looks like it's an cafeteria that has a pool table in it. It resides on the waters of Key Biscayne. Nuts, but the drinks are freaking cheap. Too bad it was only a cash bar (I never carry cash....grrr) and Michelle Z. was super sweet to buy me a screwdriver. Thank you again! I enjoyed the damn breeze and the damn good time that I had last night here for the after party. The damn drive held me back from consuming more drinks than what I normally would consume. Hope the hangovers are not hurting everyone today!

Yelp
Vodka & tonic for 4 bucks. I don't really know if I need to say anything more, but there is also the kick-ass view of the water, the laid back atmosphere, and the cool people. Pool table, Foosball, lots of free tables (if you want to get a card game going) it feels more like someones Keys home than a bar.

Yelp
I can definitely see the charm. This is not a regular bar by any means. I can't compare it to anything else I've ever been to. The Wetlab reminds me most of of the Room of Requirement where the Harry Potter kids used to secretly meet at to practice their spells. It's on campus, hard to find, has a casual atmosphere and it feels like its YOUR secret place to chill. Walking through the school's hallways and underneath a giant shark hanging from the ceiling lies the bar, bright under fluorescent lighting. Kind of like walking into someone's awkward house party where the hosts have no idea how to create atmosphere. There were even children running around which made me uneasy towards the end as I fell under the cheap alcohol's spell. Luckily (and unluckily as you will read), there's a large outdoor area facing the bay, which is really pretty under the moonlight. There are plenty of large round tables that you can casually sit at, or you can lean on the ledge facing the water. Unfortunately - this area needs to be avoided at all costs during the summertime. When I left the Wetlab, I noticed about twenty or so massive mosquito bites all over the exposed part of my feet. I spent the next couple of days nursing the itch and cursing the bar. The cheap drinks were their saving grace. I don't believe I paid more than $4 for a mixed drink. The closing time is subjective - i had read that they closed before 11 PM on Friday's, but I think they stay open later so long as there is business. The guys at the pseudo-bar even joined in the drinking festivities toward the end which was nice to see. So if you go - bring mosquito repellent and don't be afraid to ask the wandering students for directions, it's not easy to find at all.

Yelp
Best kept secret in Miami. WetLab is a bar/restaurant/lounge run by graduate students at the Rosenstiel Marine Science School at the University of Miami in Key Biscayne. Live music a beautiful view (sunset included) WetLab is the perfect ending to a long stressful day.
google avatar

Yelp
This is one of the most affordable places in the area and it has a nice relaxed vibe. The food is decent and the cider on tap is great. I don't drink beer but my friends have enjoyed. It's basically in a school cafeteria so there isn't much ambiance unless you go outside on the deck which is nice because it's right on the water. Definitely a decent place to hang out after work on a week day.
google avatar

Hannah S.

Yelp
Simply the best bar in Miami, period. This waterfront haven is home to $2.75 well drinks, a dog-friendly atmosphere and the best view this side of the Keys. Frankly, I'm not sure why I drink anywhere else. The bartenders rock, the company makes me feel like a co-ed again, and the hideaway locale means it's not invaded by obnoxious tourists. In fact - if you don't know exactly how to get here - you'll never find it, which makes the term "hidden gem" quite literal. Wetlab, I love you.
google avatar

Whitney S.

Yelp
The secret of RSMAS! If you don't know someone who studies Marine Science at UM, you probably have not gone to Wet Lab. I would say that the drinks are quite cheap, and the view is nice. There is always a breeze. But honestly the crowd is weak. I went there numerous times because I was dating a masters student there, and my roommate is dating a guy getting his PHD at RSMAS. But the only people who really hang out there are graduate students and advisers from the school. Usually they are unfriendly to the non RSMAS crowd, and you have to socialize amongst yourselves. So I will give it an, "eh, it's okay."

Yelp
tucked away in an amazing location, u will find a place like no other...I cannot tell u how to get there because I wanna keep it all to myself! Great laidback atmosphere, cheap drinks and great views of the ocean. I will def visit this place again!
