The Wharf Restaurant and Tavern

Our 1st time visiting today and let me say we've found our new favorite restaurant in town!! Steaks were absolutely perfect,catfish was amazing and dessert was the best we've had in years. From the moment we entered to the second we left the experience was awesome. Owners are so welcoming and friendly also.....it was a pleasure meeting them. If you want the best steak in town and some delicious catfish this is the place!!! We'll definitely be regulars from now on!!!!

I regretfully have to say that the food isn't "delicious" but it is very, very expensive. It's really not that good for what it costs, but I must admit that the service is very good! The girls are very kind, attentive, and always there for whatever I needed.

Food and service were excellent! I was worried I would be under dressed but the environment was super casual and laid back. Although the steak and lobster lacked seasoning they were both cooked so perfectly.

I had the steak and grilled shrimp plate, both were on point! Wife had the clam chowder and she was pleased. The bottle caps are always a Great appetizer with a cold one. Great service and drinks for the price! I recommend. Will return.

I don’t know how long The Wharf has actually been around, but I moved here in 1990, and this is the first time I’ve ever tried it. We’ve thought about going there a few times over the years, but never got around to it. So glad we finally did! The food was really good. I didn’t get a pic until after we dug in, but you get the idea. We ordered the fried mushroom appetizer, which was cooked really well. A lot of times fried mushrooms can be soggy, and I almost always have to add salt, but not here. The chipotle ranch was also nice to dip them in. As for our entrees, my husband got the fried catfish, which he kept commenting that it was “really good” all night, even after we left. I tried the shrimp scampi and was pretty pleased. We will definitely be dining here again, and it won’t be another 34 years before we go!

The food and service were great! It was our first time, and we decided to celebrate our 24th anniversary with something different. Low light and a little romantic. The dress was casual. Not loud at all. My husband had the ribeye, and i had the Hawaiian chicken with rice. Also, I tried out the fried cheese....so good! Our server was awesome. Will definitely go again.

Best seafood in San Angelo. Tried an assortment of drinks, appetizers and entrees! Had no complaints whatsoever. Even the service was great, thank you Nickie. I recommend fried mushrooms or the calamari to start. Their cocktails are excellent as well, coconut mango tango for the win on that one. The steak and shrimp was a great proportion considering how much we ate that night. I absolutely loved the coconut shrimp with the cocktail sauce.

The staff (Tia) was just as awesome as the food. The service provided, the lighting in the establishment, and the professionalism of the staff added to the overall great experience. We will be back very soon! Thank you all!

We invited Cliff & Debra to join us for Dinner at "The WHARF", one of our favorite places in San Angelo. But first we met up at their house for drinks, chatted for a while, then off to Dinner. The Wharf is always busy, but last night we didn't have to wait for a booth. The Hostess showed us to our table, and our Server, Jade, came over to take our drink orders. I'm having a Jack-N-Coke, my Wife is going with just water. Deb ordered Wine and Cliff had his choice (unknown). The Wharf does a nice pour of Wine in your glass. While we waited for our drinks, we looked over the menu, trying to decide what to order from all the deliciousness they offer. Our drinks arrived, and we toasted to my Birthday. They make a mighty fine drink, no matter what you order. It's time to order our food. My Wife, Deb, ordered from the 'Reduced Portions Menu', their "Catfish" (blackened), with one side. My Wife went with Sweet Potato Fries, Deb with Baked Potato, and an extra House Salad. Cliff also ordered their Blackened Catfish, but from the regular menu. Comes with Two Catfish Filets, and two sides. Went with the New England Clam Chowder Soup and Cajun Rice. I usually get the Blackened Catfish from their regular menu, but this time I'm ordering from the Combination Menu, the "Steak & Chicken"; Top Sirloin & Teriyaki Chicken, Med-Rare on the Sirloin Steak, and a Caesar Salad. The Chicken comes with a Teriyaki Sauce. Orders are in, and we are enjoying their basket of Rolls with soft butter. Soon, the Salads and Soup arrived, and they all looked delicious. I am very impressed with the presentation of my Caesar Salad. It is a Beautiful work of art. I don't order a Caesar Salad that much when we go out because most places don't do Caesar justice. Caesar may have been killed by self-proclaimed "Liberators", but he left behind a great-tasting salad - and The Wharf serves that salad. It's actually one of the best I have ever had. I think Caesar was a Foodie and those others were just jealous. Anyway, Cliff loved his New England Clam Chowder, and Deb enjoyed hers as well. First round of food is gone and out comes our Main Entrees. All the Blackened Catfish looks Catfishlicious and they all confirmed that it is. It's Flaky with a Spicy kick-back. My "Steak & Chicken" combo also looks delicious with the Sirloin Steak glistening and ready to be cut into and the Chicken sitting atop the rice. I sliced into the Sirloin, and it's prepared perfectly medium-rare. It's also very Juicy and Tastylicious. The nice-sized Teriyaki Chicken also has a glistening to it, even without the Teriyaki sauce poured over it. The Chicken is also Tender and Tasty, and pouring more Teriyaki sauce makes it even more so. While we enjoyed our food, we told stories and chatted for some time. Jade checked on us often to see if we needed anything. She was also informed that it is my Birthday and we are looking forward to their "Turtle Pie" for dessert, which is a sinful creation made with an Oreo crust, Carmel, Pecans, Chocolate Ice Cream, and Cookies & Cream Ice Cream, topped with dotted Whipped Cream, drizzled with Caramel & Chocolate Syrup. I guarantee that no Turtles were harmed in making this pie. This Pie is enough for four people to share, and that's what we are doing. Since it's my Birthday, I requested a candle on the Turtle Pie. Jade went for the Turtle Pie and returned shortly with the Pie, four plates, and spoons. As I said, we are sharing this dessert because if it were a 'free-for-all', I'm sure my Lovely Wife would win. She loves this dessert and considers it one of the Best Ever - that's how good it is. This Turtle Pie is HUGE and stands tall on the plate. Jade said that they didn't have any candles, but instead she brought out a long lighter, as you use for a fireplace. She lit the lighter, held it over the Turtle Pie as everyone sang Happy Birthday to me. That was pretty cool. Now it's time to slice this pie. I cut off four pieces for us, leaving a piece left for seconds if anyone should want more. Each of the four pieces is still a good size due to this enormous slice of pie. We all dove into our slice and enjoyed one of the most creamy-est pies you will ever have. The Oreo crust had a nice sweet crunch to it, and the ice creams, along with the drizzled chocolate & caramel syrup, add that creamy sweetness to every bite. The pecans add that extra crunch when you're not drooling over the Oreo crust. We ate all that was on our plate, and I noticed several eyes eyeing the remaining Turtle Pie slice - and Cliff won out. He was the first, and last, to grab that remaining slice. After we all finished our meal and dessert, we chatted for some time. Jade is one Awesome Server and earned the "Dollar-Bow-Tie" Award for going 'above-n-beyond' the norm. She is funny, knows all about the foods at The Wharf, and is a pleasure to chat with. She is also very cute.

Our dinner experience was very nice! I honestly have to say the best part was the service. Our server Tiiara really worked hard to make sure we were happy with our visit. We were celebrating our anniversary. We let her know we didn't want to feel rushed. She was attentive but not overwhelming and allowed us to set the pace for our meal. Our calamari app was so good and fresh. The clam chowder was delicious! We both ordered lobster tails. They were perfectly prepared. Asparagus, baked potato (his) and rice pilaf (hers) were good as well. Pro tip: get there early enough to get the bananas foster pie. Only one made per day, yielding eight slices. When it's gone, it's gone. The decor is casual and rustic and clean and tidy. Well priced meal, considering what we had, was about 100 before tip.

This was a very good steak and seafood joint. The service was kind enough and didn't take too long. Local friends showed us this "hole in the wall" gem. I got the charbroiled shrimp, with loaded baked potato and side salad. It was a half decent serving size. They have a lot of nice wines and drinks to pick from. It's funny to see a place like this in the middle of Texas. It reminds me of an old school beach bungalow bar! Pretty chill inside, nothing too fancy. Definitely worth a shot!

Nothing to write home about. I'd rather cook the salmon myself. Also tried the ribeye once. Would rather just cook my own ribeye and eat it at home.

Great food and service!! Service was quick and food was excellent. Location was easy to get to. Mahi mahi was great!

The food was very average, our prime rib had zero flavor . The creamy jalapeño soup was watered down with no flavor . The rolls were cold . Our shrimp cocktail was nothing to talk about at all ! Very plain presentation . I was shocked out how dusty & dirty the restaurant was! We sat by the windows with the large balls with ropes they were disgusting. Dirt, dust definitely ruined the ambience !! The server was great, he did a wonderful job.

How it took me 8 months to finally get my butt into this place I do not know!? My gf and I made plans to come in on a Wednesday night at 530pm and debut this well-known long-standing steak and seafood spot with killer desserts and a long wine list. True on all counts! Terry the owner of this place is amazing. He has been amazing wines for this place to total over ~1000 bottles from all over the world. The wine list by the glass or bottle is pages long so your going to find something you like, just ask. The happy hour cannot be missed! M-Sa 5-7pm you can sit in the bar area or the main dining room spaces and partake. Discounted beer, cocktails and wine and food items make this one of the best HH deals I know of in town. Our food picks were solid all around. My blackened barramundi fish was flaky tender and melt in your mouth good. Tender broccoli as my side item and paired with a KJ Chard made for a great meal. My gf went with shrimp and sausage gumbo over rice in an amazing rich gumbo gravy. Our app choices of a shrimp cocktail is always a safe bet and then the Cajun bites were a delicious start of sirloin steak bites with a Zaraeians creole mustard dipping sauce. Terry is an amazing owner and passionate business owner. He loves his work and it shows in his service to his guests. Our server Kennedy was most friendly and very professional. Ask for her if you can and you will be well taken care of. We were too full for dessert but will be back for one of the many famous desserts they have here for sure! Mark my words, we will be back!

Sticky tables, mid-grade food. Very outdated and grimy atmosphere. Service was excellent though. Lemonade was very tasty.

Exterior is not much to see but inside is warm and cozy. Service was great and food excellent. Everything came out in a timely manner and was very hot! Recommend the shrimp scampi.

The service was wonderful. The food was amazing. The atmosphere was great. Went for my 61st birthday and I was NOT disappointed.

First and last time, terrible service chewy steak over priced meal. Not at all what we expected, right out of the gate it took 45 minutes for 6 of us to get a table. I must have counted 12 people walk in after us and all, got sat immediately. I asked for the manager at 30 minutes let him know we had been waiting for 30 minutes and he basically said sorry, we only have 2, 5 tops and were both being used so we were going to have to wait. We arrived at 5:30 and didn't get a seat until 6:15. The waitress brought us bread, we ordered appetizers and no silverware until after I had to ask for some so we could eat our appetizers. Seriously? WTF! All I have to say lower your expectations if it's your first time. Don't show up with six people or more because they're gonna make you wait. you may need to ask for silverware cause they're not gonna bring you any..Don't complain to the manager that you've been waiting because you will not like his response and become even more agitated, he don't care. They were asking for $42 for a 12oz ribeye so I ordered the sirloin and shrimp combo for $29. which btw, the menu says "market value" so they can charge you whatever they want, and it was chewy, which in my opinion makes it a cheap cut of meat and therefore overpriced. I do not recommend this place.

Best restaurant in town! Food and service are both are exceptional! Reid always has a nice pairing of wine in mind!

When serving seafood, it would be best to serve a good brand of butter. Especially, with crab legs. When we to the manager/ owner. She was quite indignant about it. She insisted that what we were eating was butter. However, it was tasteless and oily. No flavor, so it was difficult to tell what it was.

Love the wharf! One of the only seafood restaurants in town, and though it's pricey, the food is great quality and service has always been good. Great cocktails too!

I'm very disappointed in this restaurant. I looked online to see who served oysters. It showed this establishment. When we got there they didn't. Surely somewhere on their website they could make notes they've stopped serving. I realize the item has gone up in price but I picked this one for that purpose. I ended up ordering scallops Rockefeller. Omg. They were so dry. The toppings were like hay and bacon bits. Oyster Rockefeller is always so nice and juicy. They don't offer bread anymore you have to request it. I did get a decent Caesar salad and my husband ordered the catfish. It looked good and I must say it was hot. The restaurant might be a decent place for happy hour but the beer wasn't as cold as I like it but it was beer. We had been on the road for hours in a horrible sand storm so I wanted a beer. Will I go back? Probably won't.

be advised..the place is a health hazard..ceiling registers are caked with dust and black mold ..respiratory tract infections, legionella and other issues related to black mold..this place needs to be shut down and the whole place sterilized and the ac/heating system needs the be completely cleaned and disinfected...shame on the owner..this is a hazaed to your customers and staff

While visiting we decided to try The Wharf. I could start by commenting about our server, Evan, but I won't bother. I ordered the steak and shrimp (fried). The shrimp was awful, not thawed properly, or something. I couldn't get enough seasoning on my steak, and it was way too red. Our server never came to ask about our steaks. I was highly disappointed. I would not recommend!

The service was good, the atmosphere was ok, but food did not live up to the standards we were expecting when we heard about this place. It wasn't bad, but for the price, i definitely would have went somewhere else had I known.

We love the wharf! Home away from home! Jason and Kristin treat us like kin folk in the bar! Sunny takes care of us in the dining room! The drinks are right on. The food is consistently good. We are here at least once a week if not more. The seafood and oysters are the best in town! Try it!

All the locals I know love this place. Im an outsider, so I have a different perspective. It's starts with how dark and dingy it is the second you open the door. This place is in serious need of a remodel. It just feels dirty. The staff is friendly and quick, but the food is mediocre. I got coconut fried shrimp, which was pretty good. But everything else was basic, not plated to look appetizing. This is the best SA can do for seafood?! And dark. Did I mention how dark the restaurant was?

it's a hidden gem! I'm from Dallas and wished we had restaurant like this up there. Food was hot flavorful and delicious!!! Steak was seasoned just right fish was grilled to perfection. San Angelo is lucky to have this seafood restaurant it is last of its kind. Will continue to return as long as it's around. Owner came to chat with us he was pleasant and friendly. Cozy atmosphere with a personal touch every item in there has a story.

Had the peel and eat shrimp dinner for $1 more to get soup and side. Couldn't taste the Cajun flavor from boil. Really liked the jalapeño soup. Etouffee was nothing to write home about. Would try something else before ordering again. Would go back to restaurant again.

The only seafood that I trust in town. Always great steaks too. Really good cocktails. I like the smaller plates dishes when you aren't starving. My hubby always gets the jalapeno soup! The wait staff is superb! It doesn't take reservations on weekends tho.

So me and me my wife went there about a week ago for our daughter's birthday and that was the first and last time I'll ever go there honestly.....The food to start off is bland and over cooked and both the bosses like to drink on the job the two cooks in the front really need to be trained how to cook properly the waitress aren't bad at all but over priced food due to the fact that there not making any business and the fact that you can see them drinking and eating while making your food is outrageous to me please note they do have a very bad rat problem and sewage problem. I can imagine what the back of the house looks like. Please shut this place down before they make someone sick . Hawaiian Chicken Breast.Rainbow Trout. Sirloin Steak.King Crab Legs

This is probably one of my favorite places to eat. The Restaurant is located downtown in a West Texas area called San Angelo ! The place is neat! It's interesting with lots of eye candy! I like going there during the night when the lighting makes things look even more interesting. The food is really good too!!! It's good for casual and intimate dining !

New owner, basic same menu. However sizes are smaller for same price. Food still good servers are nice,but miss all the servers who knew us so well. Will go back.

Best Traditional American Style Seafood In Town! Great oysters ! Amazing Red Fish! Great Appetizers and Strong Drinks. An old favorite here in West Texas.

My school friend came to town over spring break to visit. It's always her request to eat at the Wharf because the martinis are so amazing. There are usually little ice crystals in the drink that make it super cold and yummy. We were so disappointed. One of her martinis had actual ice cubes in it! What?! And they weren't mixed well. It was a Tuesday night and maybe the best bartender wasn't on staff but we were very disappointed. The food was great as usual, however the server had to be asked what the specials were. (Which is the only thing to order when bringing a guest) I hope their staffing challenges resolve soon!

The food was great! However I ordered the steak and lobster and would have been more than happy with just the Lobster, one of the best lobsters I have ever had!

The service and atmosphere is good. Never had a long wait for a table. However there quantity of food for the price is terrible.

My family are regulars at The Wharf and treated me to happy hour and dinner while I was home for a recent visit. My Tito's vodka martinis were perfect. Coconut Shrimp appetizer, Clam chowder and Cream of Jalapeño Soup delish. Fresh Rainbow Trout was on the menu and I had mine prepared almandine style. It was the best. Jason took good care of our party in the bar and our server, Sunny was A+. I'll be back!

We were in town for the day and looking for a dinner spot. This came up and the menu looked good. The parking lot was full, so we thought that was a good sign since we have never been to this town before. We had the steak and shrimp. The food was really good and we had the mud pie for dessert. Next time we are in town we will definitely go back.

I really enjoyed this place! The decor was dated, but it gave the place character. I remember the wait staff being really nice and accommodating and the food was really good too. Fresh and hot! This place is definitely worth a try.

Upon entering one first notices the atmosphere. Its very private and secluded feeling. Dimly lit with a dark woody interior. I first ordered a moscow mule. It wasnt the best. The ginger beer used is a bit too strong and overpowers the rest of it. It took a while to get my steak and shrimp but it was worth the wait. The steak was cooked and seasoned perfectly. The shrimp was fried and breaded well. I didnt ask, but i think its beer battered. It produces somewhat of an odd smell in the back of ones nose when chewing but the tatse and texture was excellent. The fried okra was a little undercooked but was also breaded and fried very well. Overall a great place to eat and converse but perhaps a bit expensive. Too be fair i did order one of the more expensive dishes and i had my server put a double shot in my cocktail. Speaking of server the bar tender was excellent. Quiet, quick, professional, and constantly attending customers.

The service and food was fantastic!! Cajun Bite appetizer, caesar salad and jalapeño soup were perfect. And the came the main course: King Crab Legs were perfect!! Beer battered fried shrimp was perfectly cooked and crispy!! Absolutely amazing!! Drinks were good. And the owner was real and down to earth and as busy as anyone in the place!! I highly recommend!!

Passing through and stopped here. Everything....seriously everything was delicious!! Their fried mushrooms and ribeye was amazing! The hostess and waitress were on point!! If I had any complaint at at it would to please remodel the restroom. I was dining with my mom who is in a wheelchair and it was VERY difficult getting her through 2 doors and it was not in any way ADA accessible. Thank you.

This is one of my favorite places to eat and drink in San Angelo (along with Peasant Village). We usually like to start off at Happy Hour in the bar area and then end up eating in there. Kristen and Jason always do a fabulous job of making sure we are taken care of. Some of the best servers in town... Now for the food! Let me say that this is one of the most consistent places around. Everything from the blackened salmon/redfish to the steaks are always cooked perfectly. I've never had anything here that wasn't beyond delicious. The owners are almost always here and do an excellent job of making sure your meal comes out great.

My grandson and I wanted a steak dinner... the first one we went to was packed. So we ended up at the Wharf. We are not disappointed!!! Everything tasted great!!! Had calamari, ribeye steak dinner, and moon pie!!

Thursday, December 5th: Just ate at the wharf tonight. Spent $59 on Lobster and Steak. The lobster was overcooked and this made it like rubber. The steak was supposed to be a rib eye. We specifically asked for a rib eye. It was not a rib eye and was dry and not cooked to order. Poor quality beef and not marbled like a rib eye should be with good flavor. It was not seasoned. We had to add salt and pepper just to get some flavor. I asked my waitress about the steak and she acted like there was nothing that she could do about it. Spent just over $82 on the ticket. Gosh, I could have had a fair to decent rib eye at Texas Roadhouse for much less. Wife was curious about this place so we went for our 10th wedding anniversary. The outside is in need of repair in appearance and the inside is outdated, trendy, only if you remember the 1980s. They want to be known as a steak house but they serve substandard beef that is akin to an old, dried out sponge. Very, very, very disappointing...

We love bringing our family or friends from out of town to dine at the Wharf. Special occasions, birthdays or just because I'm craving the cream of jalapeño soup. We love the coconut shrimp, salmon, barramundi, bottle caps, Cajun bites, and the best wine list in town. A San Angelo staple!

4.5 Heres why.... I come here on special occasions, Dates,etc. This restaurant has been consistent and its clean. From my seat I had a clear view into not only kitchen but could see the dishwasher. The restaurant is clean and staff is attentive and friendly. The food is good the steaks may be small but they are cooked great and seasoned well. Like any other restaurants they have their ups and downs. But for me The Warf still remains a nice place to eat seafood and enjoy a good meal. Is it cheap? NO. Is it good? YES. Its rare to find a restaurant that is clean and serves good food. If you had a bad experience try again. This is one if the few places in San Angelo that TRIES and comes through with a good experience.

*UPDATE* Apparently instead of PUBLICLY reply to patrons who aren't satisfied the owner "Terry" will send you a rude message! He tried to say THIS place had the best wine selection in San Angelo and then told me he took my review personally. HA! We have several wine bars in this town that blow this place out of the water. I'd even venture to say I could find something better at HEB.

I would not recommend. We watched the cook eating food as he was preparing food. The mixed drinks had no alcohol and for the extreme price, I would expect better quality food.

Not sure what I was expecting from a seafood place that isn't anywhere close to the water. Was hungry and needed to find a place for dinner while in San Angelo for a work trip. Nothing really stood out that sounded appetizing on the menu. When the waitress returned to the table, we asked what they were famous for and she didn't even really have an answer. Luckily it prompted her to tell us about their fresh fish specials which are not listed on the menu. The fish tasted good but nothing special.

Went here last night, SO excited to find a good place to eat in San Angelo when we are in town. Food was great, service was fantastic! We will definitely be back!!

I'm from SC so I'm not easily impressed with seafood- especially when you're in a land locked city... The Shrimp -meh But the Cajun bites under apps menu were DELICIOSO!!!

So we get there with our 4 month old to find out there are no changing tables so they have me change my daughter on a box. We ordered our food and my filet was completely bland so as I waited for the server Kassidy to come back I grazed on my baked potato. Eventually we had to grab a different server to go find ours (which we had to do a total of 5 times because she'd never come back and our drinks were completely empty). We had to ask for a high chair 2x. I told our server I'd like something else they took off the steak but charge me FIVE dollars for the baked potato it was awful service, the server very clearly didn't want to be there. The place was dead with only one table besides us there.

The wharf is Angelo's "higher end" restaurant. It was good. Not incredible. We had Calamari, peel and eat shrimp, Cajun bites. For entree we had ahi tuna and rice pilaf. Again, good but not incredible. They were busy so maybe it was just an off night. Waitress was frazzled and forgot many things over course of night. Found this place to be a little discombobulated and maybe understaffed. Again, maybe an off night. Would try again but would like to see them up their game a bit for what they are offering as premier dining. Bartender was on point though! So at very least, visit the bar first and see how it goes.
