Arts District Coffee and Bicycle Hangout The Wheelhouse Closes Shop | Eater LA

"A cycling-focused Arts District coffee spot that opened in late 2015, this funky hideaway was tucked down an alley beyond The Factory Kitchen and occupied a tall, open warehouse with roll-up doors. The coffee program was modest—centered around a long communal table and lounge—while the majority of the space was dedicated to bicycle repair and merchandise, allowing it to build a loyal following among neighbors and riders of all stripes. Embracing the common bike-and-coffee pairing seen at similar hybrid shops, the owners Tami and Chase Spenst announced the “hard decision” to close via a lengthy social-media statement, with the final day of service occurring just before the new year." - Farley Elliott

Quick service and friendly staff, with pricing on par with other local base dining options. Unfortunately, the burger quality was disappointing. The slice of cheese was actually thicker than the beef patty, which is a bumer when you roll in hungry! A mildly underwhelming experience overall but definitely better than leaving base to brave Macdonalds or similar.

Nothing like a Wheelhouse burger and fries! The staff here are top notch, and there's plenty of options. Cheesesteak is great; so is the BLT, panninis, and southwest salad.

What is consistently? Where I have had decent meals from here in the past it seems like a mixed bag every time I go now. the fact that you have to wait far too long sometimes to get all your parties food or the food quality is vastly different in size and quality almost every time. I don't know how the place is managed but it is not held to any kind of standard and its getting old. The fact that I have had some good meals in the past is the only reason for two stars. If it was based off the last 3 months I would give it one star. Really sad as it is the only food option on base for most of us especially in the morning.

So I'm looking at some of the previous reviews, and I'm thinking that people are setting their expectations pretty high for this place. It's better than most people say, but it's by no means a five star restaurant. They day I went, I had the Kaluha Pork and it was fantastic. Service was adequate and everything was clean. The reason I'm giving them five stars is because that pork was truly good, and I feel like the rest of their food would probably be pretty decent. It's reasonably priced and not too crowded at lunchtime. Hope this helps.

Decent enough prices and food to warrant not driving off base most days. Daily specials renewed weekly. Friendly, courteous staff. Rewards and online ordering available through the clover app.

One of the worst places I’ve eaten at my entire life. As soon as I walked in I noticed that no one was wearing any hair nets or hats, and to make things even better when I got my food after taking a bite I had to pry multiple hairs out of my meal. Deserves zero stars and I will never be eating here again.

You need to set aside 2 hrs to grab lunch here. This place has steadily gone downhill over the last year or so. Menu has been cut down and place is definitely understaffed. Food is good, if you get what you ordered or they aren't out of it. I imagine this place will soon to be shutdown.

Yelp
They have great food, terrible hours in turn making it a substandard establishment for military members seeking a safe haven in the portsmouth area

Yelp
On travel for business, and I could find any restaurants around C3CEN area. Wheelhouse is actually not bad. Skip the "Fish & Chips" if you are a picky seafood eater. This place is busy, as there are not many choices around Portsmouth

Yelp
Came in for their 50 cent wing night on Wednesday night and was not disappointed. Great wings and pizza. Also drinks were a good value. Those of you military types in the Churchland area should check this place out! The bartender said they also have NFL Sunday ticket so I guess I know where I will be this weekend.
