This has the feel of your go-to neighborhood bar with tasty food and fun, friendly service. I love that they have the option for ample outdoor seating, although I sat inside because I also love the spacious wooden booths. All in all, I enjoyed my visit and the service was great. I look forward to frequenting this place in the future.

Google
Stopped in the first time for lunch. Typical neighborhood bar. So... Perfect. Good food. Kayla was fantastic. Prices were what you expect. Will return next time I'm in that part of town.

Google
Fantastic pub! Great food and friendly staff. Spectacular spot for a beer, game of pool or even lunch with the family.

Google
We were floating through town on business and tried this restaurant randomly and soley based on the reviews - our favorite way to eat. We had the Spinach Salad and the Bourbon BBQ Burger with fries and I am pleased to say that they were both fantastic and super high quality. Would definitely recommend this place if you were looking for a new place to try. Plenty of seating and really good service!

Google
Fast service-always available. Never let me down. Pool tables are great, seats hurt my butt, lol. Decent food for a bar. I keep coming back here because it’s a safe place to get a drink and maybe a bite. I’m updating this because recently the food has been lacking seasoning: maybe it always has and I’ve been lit. Lemon pepper wings were drenched in lemon pepper I couldn’t eat one. My chicken sandwich had no seasoning, no sauce just dry and regular. I wasn’t pleased with it. Good size and quantity, onion rings great but I think they should taste their own food and do a revamp on some things to tighten up!

Google
Really good wings! We got the peri peri and the buffalo and they were both a great flavor. Peri peri are spicy watch out! This var has events and specials almost every day, karaoke on Saturdays which is pretty rare for atlanta. Great chill environment and lots of seating. We get to go a lot too.

Google
I really like the Whelan, and I really want to give it a five star review. But they charge an automatic gratuity on their bill for any drink and they don't make that clear. I just learned that I've been double tipping them on beer since I started going! With tax and tip, a burger and a beer costs like $30+. If the receipt makes this more clear (doesn't include a tip line or has a reminder that gratuity is automatic), then I'm happy to change my review because it's a really nice bar and close to my work. Cheers folks, I don't mean to be stingy, but I've given your employees plenty in my time here and I'm ultimately glad to have patroned the Whelan so, but I hope you fix this or splain me why I'm wrong about what I've written.

Google
Anywhere my friend Ali goes, I go. Actually sitting here having a Guinness while typing this review 3/30/25. Second visit here. Of course the service is stellar. That's a given with Ali, but also, this place is a great pub. Great brunch menu and daily menu as well. The atmosphere inside is very relaxing. Lighting is perfect. They have pool tables, always a pleasant diversion. It's a great place to visit. My new go to pub. Slainte.

Yelp
I came here to grab their malva pudding for my student culture meeting. My students and I are going to South Africa this summer and one of their holiday traditions is eating malva pudding. My students loved this dessert and so did I! The reviews on yelp did not disappoint! Taylor was very helpful in working with me to figure out how many servings I should get and how to prepare for my meeting the next day. She said the cook even added an extra piece ! Hopefully I can organize something here for my parents before our departure!

Yelp
Came here for a late night dinner and a couple drinks. The service was amazing and the food was right there to match! I had the lemon pepper wings with fries - both were very flavorful and crispy. While you wait or after you eat - there's also a space for you to play Billard's or play some music on the jukebox. Perfect ambiance to catch up with some friends in a very chill setting! Will definitely come back.

Yelp
For the location (being down the street from my friends' apartment), this spot was perfect. Totally walking distance. Good drinks, including their own locally brewed drinks, fresh fries and good wings. When I'm back in the area, and want some food (for happy hour or off the late-night) The Whelan would be a great spot to hit.

Yelp
Quaint bar with local vibes. Service started a little shaky. Not sure if it was because I arrived late to join a party of 8 but once someone from the party advised the bar tender I was with them I was served as though they already knew me. I only ate the calamari but it was definitely worth mentioning for bar food as I would give it a 4 out if 5.
google avatar

Nisha T.

Yelp
It a cool spot to pull up to late night. The drinks were good. We stopped by after leaving an event to play some pool. We had a great time. The service was good.
google avatar

Yelp
Ok whoever gave this place 1 star was 100% wrong. The service was fast and friendly. And this big south african glizzy was awesome!! You can't believe all these reviews. The place was hopping on a Thursday night.

Yelp
Was looking for another restaurant downtown ATL, found it and it was closed. So, since we had street parking we decided to venture the strip and found a small pub with a nice crowd (for a Sunday) Whelan's. They are serving endless mimosa from 11-3pm for $15 and the locals we're taking advantage. We order the chilli tai wings, these were really delicious tender, juicy and flavorful also a Caesar Salad and a Whalen Salad with steak. Jenny our waitress was amazing 5ft 4 in of personality. Oh, did I mention that we had mimosas also. The ambiance is much like an Irish pub, loud (endless mimosas) but welcoming and friendly. Oh one note there is a 18% gradtudity on each order... nevertheless happy we stumbled into this establishment.

Yelp
I've visited this place quite a lot when I go to visit friends in Atlanta. The bartenders are always friendly, there's decent music playing and with TVs showing news and sports. Heck I even got around to trying some of the food, the wings were decent - juicy and hot. I do feel like the drinks sometimes aren't potent but that could just be me, I definitely recommend
google avatar

D'Metrius W.

Yelp
Great Buffalo wings! Im so sad, i forgot to take a picture, they were so good it slipped my mind but they're delicious and great size. And the waitress did a great job. Mrs. Jenny helped us while we were here and gets an A+ for service and hospitality!

Yelp
Came here yesterday afternoon with some friends to get drinks and play darts. It was a chill place. We came around 3pm on a Saturday and the darts were open. We got some drinks and hung out for a while. It started to fill up as the day went on. They have pool tables and board games as well.
google avatar

Leiton C.

Yelp
Food made me Extremely sick!! Please pay attention to the wings!! Most are too large or deformed and unable to be eaten. Inquired about that and they let me know there was NOTHING they could do! Please use a different food distributor. Bartenders get an automatic 18% gratuity on every bill which makes staff very inattentive. Especially the tall young lady - always an attitude when asking her for anything. Would not recommend - please spend your $ elsewhere.

J. R.

Yelp
My husband and I come here all the time! Bartenders JB and Jenny are the best! This place has THE BEST hand cut fries! And yummy selections on the menu that do not disappoint Ambiance is awesome and location is perfect! Plenty of free parking

Yelp
This was my first time trying The Whelan. I placed an order for pick up and the employee said the food would be ready in 20 minutes. I ordered 6 hot wings, side of fries, and lamb chops. The lamb chops came with mashed sweet potatoes and wild rice. I thought that was kind of odd that it came with 2 starches. When I arrived to pick up my food was packed and ready to go. I got home to eat and the food was just ok. The fries got cold really quickly. The lamb chops were cooked medium, which I am ok with. The mashed sweet potatoes had a lot of strings in it. And the wild rice was pretty bland.

Yelp
It almost feels like I stepped back into time, especially after the hussle and bustle day I just had. It was refreshing to come into such a pleasant and friendly atmosphere. As I looked around I saw lots of evidence that good times lives here. I'm not big on burgers, but I have to say this one was a great burger. I ordered Burben BBQ Burger. Nice and juicy. The fries were cooked to perfection. MOLLIE, was a great server. I can't wait to come here again.

Yelp
We stop by this place looking for a place to grab a bite. Called them to see if they could accommodate our party of eight. They could and we had a wonderful time. The food and drinks were awesome. Of course, if we are ever back in town we will make sure to visit them again. Service was outstanding! Everyone enjoyed their meal. Wings Amazing, Chicken and Waffles are amazing, burgers are amazing! Can't miss with this place! Bottomless Mimosa was on point. That's why I forgot to take pictures.

Yelp
This restaurant had great reviews but the service I've been receiving lately is absolutely terrible. I am a resident and lately the waitresses have not been the best. I bought my family in and they took their time getting us drinks, etc. I then ordered to go and the power went out (which was totally not their fault) but my food wasn't done in the time frame that was given. Then as of tonight (6/25/19) I came in and the waitress (Caitlyn) said that she couldn't give me the in house discount. And kept making it seem like it was only 10% like it wasn't a big deal. I always order to go because I have a little one and there is always folks smoking at the bar. With agaverno being close by I ordered dessert because they don't sell dessert and they forgot to add a spoon. I asked if she had any plastic silverware and she proceeded to tell me that she couldn't let me eat because of the plastic costing the owner money !?? So with me totally confused I asked what she was talking about and she started talking in circles really weird. All I asked for was a spoon set so I could have with my ice cream. Just really upset especially since the food is actually good. I won't be coming back. My husband said they even treated him and his uncle poorly when they came in last week. I think i should probably mention to my apartment complex.

Yelp
Great Irish pub to grab a beer and some food. The staff are always busy and very nice. I had their surf and turf burger and it was cooked just how I asked. The french fries are soft and crunchy steak cut. They are really good. The service is pretty quick. They've even got dart boards and pool tables. I like coming here.

Yelp
Came here for a quick lunch and was greeted by the friendly and knowledgeable Gini - had a BLT and their signature fries with an expertly poured Guinness. Watched local crowd come and go having a relaxing bite before jumping back out into life. Great part of town, not too crowded yet but it's coming with the townhomes and condos and single family homes popping up. Great to see a neighborhood bar do well. Thanks Gini and the unknown chef! I hope to be back!

Yelp
Such a fun dive bar with karaoke, darts, pool tables, and good food. Super friendly and fun staff! They're always super helpful and on-top of things, even on busy nights. Well rounded crowd of people that are all looking for a fun late-night spot to go enjoy cocktails at the bar, late night bite, or some perfect "dive bar" style fun. Come dressed up (my friends and I went after a dressy event) or dressed casual, everyone is just there to have fun. My friends and I were recently there after a charity event and left a box of sweatshirts from the charity. Someone turned them in and Justin was nice enough to hold on to them until I could pick them up.

Yelp
At this point, I've begun to consider myself somewhat of a domestic culinary archaeologist. I search out new or interesting bars and restaurants, and try some of the most popular dishes. Last Sunday at The Whelan was no different. For some reason yelp was including the descriptor "eclectic" in regards to this bustling sports bar with modern country club vibes sitting at the edge of what seemed to be a developing West Midtown meets slightly industrial and growing Grove Park. I prefer to sit at the bar so I can get a full array of what kind of bottles an establishment keeps on hand, and true to sports bar fashion, several of the old reliable brands we all know and love were in plain sight (e.g. Dickel, Jack Daniels, etc.). The bartender was very friendly and the service was pretty spot on. I definitely felt like I was checked on a healthy number of times between each drink and never really experienced that alcoholic neglect feeling when the bartender or server come back more and more infrequently and you almost have to wonder if they forgot about you or if their throwing back Vegas Bombs and making TikTok vids with their buddies in the kitchen to pass the time. If I could make a suggestion on which drink to order based on my experience - THE PB&J ! A PBR and your choice shot of Jameson or some other J beginning liquor (that I can't quite recall at the moment) for only like $7! Most places in ATL wont even sell you a beer for that price. I don't remember if that was the Sunday deal or an always running special, but totally worth it! And then I ordered some shot that was called like the Cinnamon Toast Crunch shot or something (man I am really screwing up this review not being able to remember the names ). Jesus Christ! It kind of taste like if Horchata and a cinnamon roll were to make an alcoholic child condensed into a shot glass . A-MAZE-ING! Legit, AMAZING! Do not skip out on the snot lol you lll know which one I'm talking about when you see the drinks menu! Of course, last but not least - THE FOOD . This is the easy part . I open the menu - BOOM - staring me smack dab in the face is Family Style Curry Recipe. First words I read are "back home South African red curry." I stopped reading and said "excuse me, What's South African curry? As a matter of fact! Nvm! I'll take that!" Dish comes out? F I R E !! Like, legit... I should've taken one of those like after pics with the bowl all empty but stained from the curry and my face is covered in sauce and my shirt ruined because I'm a messy eater lol but seriously, that dish was suuuper good. Would easily recommend this to place to someone else looking for some solid drinks and great food on a Sunday funday. Thanks for the food!

Yelp
We were out for a walk and stopped mainly to have drinks. I liked that we didn't have to go inside to get seated outside. They were busy, but the service was great - fast and friendly. We ordered wings - some with buffalo sauce and some with sweet chili. They were good. We had a side of fries. The side was like a meal. We were glad because they were yummy fresh cut fries. We also had the black bean hummus which was a huge serving with pita bread, celery, carrots. Generous portions of good food at a good price. I want to go back to try the curry chicken salad which I heard was fantastic.

Yelp
nice lowkey pub with great food and great drinks . they have drink specials daily which drew me in . Highly recommend if you want a nice dive bar experience in the heart of the city but not city prices . They do add 18% gratuity to every check but you get a good bang for your buck so who cares !
google avatar

Yelp
Ok, hear me out. This is not a destination for a wild food experience. Food is overall subpar. This is truly a bar bar. Pool tables, amazing beer selection, rad people working here, but the eat before coming here unless you just want onion rings and fries. Ambiance is pure Irish pub.
google avatar

Liz O.

Yelp
I've been a recent local for this bar. Service is awesome, it's a dive bar people the employees will favor people who are at the bar to drink... so cheers Fav menu item: Caesar wrap! Honorable mention: black bean burger, the South African spices really come to play and is phenomenal from someone who isn't a vegetarian. Check out the daily specials that rotate everyday on the chalkboard
google avatar

Solomon C.

Yelp
This place is great! The staff here is super friendly! They all make an effort to learn your name and greet you personally. It's a lot like that really old show Cheers. Lol! Decent beer selection, daily specials, occasionally you'll encounter reps in the liquor and beer industry that'll come and buy everyone a round of whatever they're selling. I've encountered reps from Jameson, fireball, a few beer companies. There's a couple pool tables and dart boards, Saturday Night is karaoke night which is a lot of fun to watch. Food here is great! I really like the Peri-Peri Chicken sandwich! If you're from the UK or DC, heck even Canada then you'll know this as Nando's Chicken! Their veggie burger is real tasty too! If Angie is working, get on Tinder, find her profile and send her a super like!

Yelp
If a 1/2 star option existed I would have selected that! We ordered 2 fish and chips and an order of Mac & cheese from Uber eats. The only real positive is that the food arrived very quickly and very hot. The fish was heavily incased in way over cooked hard as rock flavorless batter. Once we actually got inside to the fish itself it was dry and there was hardly any. Basically it was 2 over cooked slabs of rock hard batter with a tiny bit of bland dry fish inside. The fries were soaked with grease to the point of dripping. The Mac and cheese wasn't too bad though also dry. We will not be ordering from them again. :( Pity since they are 0.5 miles from my house. Oh well.

Yelp
Great food! Strong drinks! Fun karaoke and DJ on Friday and Saturday nights. I absolutely love this place. It's perfect for late night and a fun time.

Yelp
Love this neighborhood spot! food is always good and the staff is awesome!!!!! Great hangout spot to play pool, darts or just hanging with locals for a drink.
google avatar

Yelp
Terrible service. Bartenders do not seem to care about guests at all. No good drink cocktails and staff seems to have an attitude for paying guests. Would rather go next door for food and drinks
google avatar

Yelp
My favorite bar in west midtown! The Whelan has a neighborhood feel and amazing service as well. We order the calamari to split, along with the steak and frites! Great prices for what you receive. The patio is dog friendly and the server brings water to your puppers. When we don't have the pup, we go inside to eat and then play darts. There is plenty more on the menu and I highly recommend you check this bar out!
google avatar

Candace H.

Yelp
I was very skeptical of this restaurant after reading the reviews when my date suggested it but I must say I was surprisingly pleased! The customer service was amazing! Different waiters as well as the owner came by to check on us multiple times throughout the evening to ensure that we were good. The food was great! There are more items on the menu than there are on the online menu which I was happy about! I ordered the surf and turf burger and fries which was really good and my date had the chicken curry which I liked as well. I want to try the lamb when I I come back. I will definitely be returning! I would just like for the menu to include more South African inspired dishes!

Yelp
I went to the pub after the Newport Jazz Festival this year. I was on my way back to Boston airport the next day after camping locally. I looked on Yelp to find a local cool bar. I have to say it's hard to get to this place because it's in a crazy intersection that is one way but I finally made it. I walked up to the doors and to my dismay a large sign said cash only. I turned around and finally found a cash machine. Went back in and found a truly charming local bar with so much character. Then I saw the atm in the corner. lol. The bartender/cook/manager took my order at the bar. You could tell it was all locals. I'm from Atlanta. He was a little standoffish at first but then we watched the little league world series together and laughed at some drunk couple's arguments and I had a great time. Single older women just camping in her van. I had a steak sandwich and it was great. Prices great. 100% recommend!

Yelp
There's something about finding a quaint place and feeling like you've made a brand new discovery. This restaurant/pub is off the beaten path but is well worth a visit. The moment I walked in the joint, I was attracted to its old-fashioned vibe and modern charm all at the same time. The Whelan feels like the old neighborhood hangout spot where everybody probably does know your name. It's larger than it appears from the street and there's also a patio area for drinking and eating. It's not overly decorated and have the feel of a dive bar but it's not a dive bar. It has a large full service bar, booths, draft beers, wines and sodas. The lunch menu wasn't overly populated with items, so you don't have to spend much time trying to decided what to eat. I had the South African red curry and vegetables with jasmine rice and fried plantains, for $15. The portion size was enough to share between two people and the overall the flavor and was pretty good. However, it was spicy, as in hot. I had sweat beads dropping off my head, looking like I was sitting in the shower. I guess the hotness thing will depend on your own level of tolerance for spicy food. Overall, this place seems a little pricey for its location but don't let that stop you from checking it out. I'll probably stop in again later and try something different from the menu and check out the evening vibe. Until you hear from me again, celebrate and try everything!

Yelp
I was having a casual beer at a hole in the wall bar and started craving a burger. Since the bar I was at didn't serve food I felt obliged to ask the bartender where I could find such a thing. He rambled off a few different places and then someone with a roaring voice said, "You must go to the whelan, it tops all the suggestions he made" and the bartender paused for a second and agreed. With it being only about 5min away I was ecstatic to try it and sooth my burger wants. I was greeted by the bartender, ordered my food and tried a few beers they had on tap. The burger was pretty darn good, even though I asked for it medium and it came out well done, it was still juicy and taste. The wings I ordered were just ok, I got peri peri, lemon pepper and Thai chili, the lemon peppers were the best but still not worthy of a trip to satisfy your wing cravings. Overall I thought it was pretty good. If I'm in the area I would definitely go again.

Yelp
After waiting nearly two hours for a spinach salad with salmon, the waiter returns saying there is no spinach. Why would it take that long for a salad #1. Secondly, why would it take that long to determine that you don't have spinach. Absolutely crazy. We live in the neighborhood and hoped this would be a better experience. Cool that they have pool tables.

Yelp
Great food! Always a fun time!! Angie and Justin are the best!! the entire staff is so friendly

Yelp
I am a fan. I live close to here and will be back often. Love the interior its actually a lot bigger than it looks from the outside-- they also have a great patio! Our waiter, Andrew was awesome and easily accommodated my many requests that day. the Menu is mostly appetizers, burgers, salads. I had some of their whelan hot wings and peri peri wings-- the hot was good but a little boring but the peri peri was amazing. I dipped it in the hot sauce to make it spicier. On the side we had fries and mac and cheese-- both were very good but that mac and cheese is out of this world. It's a little pricey for me which is unfortunate because I would come here a few times a week if it was more affordable. our total was about 65$ for a few drinks, 18 wings and 2 sides. Each side is 4$ and we got 6 wings for about 7$ an order. Many talked about there being a south african flair (I LOVE south african food) but other than the peri peri I didn't see it. Cant wait to try those burgers! Definitely recommend this place.

Yelp
First of let me just say this is my first official 5 star review. Let's just start off with the atmosphere, it's definitely a place you can come for a nice date or just to hang with the guys or gals. This unique little neighborhood bar is has a full bar with plenty of crafts beer at your disposal. The food is basic eats you have your wings ,burger, chicken strips etc... I love the wings so if you get a chance please try the wings you won't be disappointed. Drinks are good the staff is super polite, this is a great place to visit each day of the week there is something for you. Poker on Tuesdays Karaoke on Saturdays, Brunch on Sundays , you can't go wrong. If you go please tell you Nick sent you

Yelp
If your black or person of color this is not the bar for you. The bar tender with the ponytail will definitely not serve you on purpose, they are racist. Definitely told me to get the f out and it's all on camera. They play like they're cool but as soon as you call them out for their bs they call security and play you as the aggressive black person . Sad part I know bartenders there so I tried to support but do not support this business I will not spend another dollar here I have receipts and recorded conversations and interactions. It suck's that in 2022 I'm leaving a racist review but then again it is Georgia . Do not support this business. Yelp will probably let them mute this and if you have any additional stories definitely add them. Stop letting them win let's play the political game as well. We spend too much as persons of colors to get treated as less than a white man.

Yelp
I first came here for karaoke. They have karaoke every Saturday at 10 pm. They serve food until about 1 am. They have street parking and a parking garage that is available to park for three hours. There wings are pretty good, Thai chili, and I ordered a basket of fries and holy basket fries... It was a huge order. The bartenders are super cool, funny, and attentive. Decent beer options, it is hard to find bars that have sour beers and they had some options. Definitely coming back.
google avatar

Sashay C.

Yelp
I've only ever order on Uber eats , there burgers are good ! Never disappointed, but the fries are ALWAYS OVER COOKED I even leave a note asking if they can be soft undercooked and they are always super dry and hard , if ordering always grab a burger but go for another side
google avatar

Yelp
I've came to this "bar" about ten times (sorry, I'm hungry! Lol jk) and every time I've been has been hell. Hell as in... hell- OH YEAH! Just kidding I'm a jokester. Anyways, I met the owner and he gave me cornhole advice. Took 3 throws off my game. A few bartenders I met were kinda cool: Angelica, Maggie, and Annie. Tip them well (over 18% he he) I can't afford to tip well bc I bought my ex neighbor breast implants on a dare. :(

Yelp
Walked into this place day 1. Just ate brunch here and holy god, incredible. Came here the next day and got there bourbon bbq burger and was even more impressed. I can confidently say I'll be back again and again.

Yelp
I had high hopes for this place. It's close to my brother's place, parking isn't hard to find, and the website was pretty swank looking. So let's start with the positives. The interior is sleek and inviting. The main bar area is quite impressive looking. There were several pool tables towards the end of the restaurant. And there was even a high tech jukebox/photo booth. So perhaps as JUST a bar, this place would be fine. However, I went there for the pub food, and was very disappointed with my experience. Their website claims, "your favorite American pub style foods with a South African Twist." So I look through the menu and see something that I'd like to try: The Family Recipe Chicken Curry. It is described as a "South African red curry and vegetables over Jasmine Rice. Topped with Fried Plantains." I passed up burgers and wings and my go-top bar entree (fish and chips) in hopes of experiencing something new. What I got was something underwhelming. It had a hearty feel to it, but so does canned soup, and that's more or less what it reminded me of in terms of quality. I will say that the chicken was tender, but that's about the only positive. What was the point of having a little ball of rice surrounded by the curry? It's already starting to get soggy from soaking up the juices. The spice blend of the curry seemed uninspired. However, the biggest blunder on the plate was the lack of plantains. Look at my picture, and tell me if you see the plantains that appear on their website. So really at this point, what you have is a mediocre dish that I could whip up myself with some canned goods (and I am a terrible cook)-- not a unique international dish that I was hoping for. And for the price of $15? Come on, man. Side note on my girlfriend's dish; she got lamb chops with sweet potato mash and wild rice. She said the best thing on the plate was the rice, and it was average. I tasted the sweet potato and it had too much brown sugar on top. The lamb was also too salty. So 0 for 2 on the entrees. Bad food alone isn't usually enough for me to totally write a place off, but the service was quite lacking as well. It started with something minor-- my girlfriend asking for a slice of orange to go with her Blue Moon draft. We get our drinks, no orange but our server realizes it and says she'll be right back. She comes back later to take my brother's drink order (he came late), but no orange slices. We later get our food... no orange slices until I politely requested it. Not sure if it was intentional, but I felt like I got a glare from her. Speaking of food delivery, it took a little too long to get it (maybe 20 minutes), and the restaurant wasn't even half full that night. Through the course of the meal, my Diet Coke was never refilled, nor was my girlfriend asked for another beer. At the end, after a discussion with my brother who also ordered the same curry dish, we asked about the lack of plantains. The server said she'd check and get back to us. 10 minutes later nothing. I originally wanted dessert, but was irritated at this point and just asked for the check. I hope that my experience is not the norm for others who go there, but I will never go back to this place.

Yelp
Think it's pretty lame my 12:01 order gets canceled because I'm one minute late on the kitchen closing.... ok cool... regret the absurd amount of money I've spent eating here. Thanks

Yelp
So you're hungry. Maybe you are a little bit thirsty and need your thirst quenched by a cold draft beer. Guess what, you have found one of the best spots in Atlanta to take care of both of those needs. This place has great burgers and a constant rotation of top end beer. The crew in west Midtown are top notch and the down to earth vibe is a change up pace to the more fancy spots in the area. Stop looking for a place, nut up and make a decision! The Whelan is where you need to be.

Yelp
I want to love this place because it is conveniently located and the food has been delicious every time but the service is not there. I sat in a booth all three times and it seems to be a hassle for whoever is behind the bar to serve us. Maybe if I sit at the bar next time that wouldn't be an issue but that shouldn't matter. I understand the restaurant life so I don't expect everything to be perfect but I expect decent service and interaction. The food is great every time and that's why I return. The Mac & cheese was fantastic! As mentioned in my last review the burger and fries were spot on - as always.

Yelp
My favorite local spot! This is the "Cheers" bar for the westside - your bartenders know you by name (even when you don't go all the time), and the food is pretty solid. They have pool as well, so, how can you complain? Their food is also really good - much better quality than you'd expect from the corner bar. Burgers are on point, even the salads are delicious (and I'm not a salad guy).

Yelp
Star four goes to the single bartender/waitress holding down the fort all by herself on a Saturday afternoon serving both the inside and the outside patio. This place is a good hangout bar, with a solid menu and some of the better bar amenities (pool tables). Had the flat iron steak and fries, steak was fine and done the way i liked it, fries were fries but I do l love the fact that they have Dragons Milk (yay). Otherwise, solid bar. Would come again.
