Cherokee Street’s whiskey haunt balances rare pours, classic cocktails, and one of the neighborhood’s best patios. Monthly events and local collaborations keep it plugged into the scene—proof that a true neighborhood bar can still surprise.

Lots of great, local options if you like to venture out, but also the standards of you just want to stick with what's comfortable. No food, but near lots of options, so this is great for before or after. Plenty of seating options and an enjoyable atmosphere, I love the art accented by UV!

Came in and the bartender was finishing playlist of A Tribe Called Quest, after that it was a veried and discerning who's-who of old 'new school' hip-hop jams. So, yeah. 👏🏽 Good pours from the knowledgeable and gracious Sunday night bartender... Chill atmosphere, good vibes from the regulars... One hundred will go again. *Hello from Minneapolis 👋🏾

Came in unsure of what to order. A Kona was recommended, and it was Amazing! Love the vibe as well. 5-Stars for sure.

This place has such a chill and dope vibe, no matter if you go in the evening or late night.. the drinks are so good.. my favorite is the Blood & Sand, though I've had a few others over the years. Would highly recommend here for after dinner drinks!

Yelp
The Whiskey Ring is still going strong! It's an inclusive, welcoming space with great cocktails, a fine selection of craft (and other) beer, and super friendly service. Of course they live up to their name, with dozens of bottles of whiskey and scotch. The vibe is cozy and cool, with plenty of barstools and booths. Step out on the huge patio when the weather's right for yet another party, with ample picnic tables and a second bar. Stop by on Western Wear Nights to see all the best--and most creative--takes on cow-person styles! The Whiskey Ring has a solid social media game so it's easy to track who's playing (I've bands and DJs) and what drinks are extra-special. Notes: street parking only. No food. I don't know whether they're officially "adults only" but I've never seen kids here.

Yelp
cool velvet art on the walls. awesome bartenders. large patio out back. not the cleanest of places, cushions worn down/ exposed.

Yelp
I went to Whiskey Ring Last night completely sober and was refused service. I am incredibly disappointed in what has always been one of my favorite bars. The staff also has an obsession with making fun of trans people apparently and is constantly making jokes at their expense. I am deeply offended.

Yelp
As far as dive bars go - this place is amazing. The crowd was so eclectic and welcoming - felt both super comfortable and entertained at the same time. The space is really cozy inside and fun outside. Would recommend this place to anyone just looking for a relaxing place to land at night.

Yelp
If whiskey ring opens at four today. I'm def stopping in for a drink... .... Why would I go get a drink at Whiskey Ring today??? ???? Simple answer... .... If you are selling whiskey today... .... I'm buying. Period. If you bottled up and came to work today. Then I am very grateful for your service. I grew up in the cold ass Minnieapp... this weather ain't shit to me. The pandemic also don't scare me. You know what scares me??? ???? Not leaving my house to get a good meal and a good drink... .... If that scares you? Then do Whatever goofy shit makes you happy... .... Sure beats the alternative.

Yelp
My friends and I walked into this bar and received a very cold welcome by Lawrence, the bartender. He was rude, sarcastic and condescending our entire visit. I was with 10 people- we can drink and spend money. We tip well. But he didn't want to have us there from the moment we walked in. We decided to only have one drink and get outta there. As we were walking out, Lawrence sarcastically blew us kisses. Worst service in STL so far. 0/10 stars.

Yelp
I love the Whiskey Ring. Quaint, divey, and charming. There are plenty of intimate tables for a date night spot, my favorite being the single table by the front door in the window. They do have a number of cocktails on the chalk board menu, but I'll be honest... I've been doing a lot of Tito's and soda recently, so that's what I got on my recent visit. Boring, I know... but refreshing and simple has been my go to as of late. This bar adds a lot to Cherokee St., which is already one of my favorite neighborhoods in Saint Louis for nightlife. On the weekends it's more lively, but it's open late, even on weeknights- making it a staple, since it's so close to my place. The bartenders are awesome and neighborly and their prices are as good as they get!

Yelp
Holy crap this bar is amazing. We had an hour (or so) to kill before catching a train back to Little Rock, so we figured, what the hell? Let's grab a drink! We had so much fun here, we actually considered delaying our return trip. I mean, no really, but we *did* almost miss our train because we were having too much fun ;) Word around town is that the best night is Friday, but we came in Sunday afternoon and had the place to ourselves, which was pretty awesome, and a big part of the experience. There was a group of ten of us all rowdy and excited, and the bartender (who was very open that he'd had a super rough Saturday night himself) was such wonderful company. They had a small selection of brews, from cheaper to fancy, imported to local, and they have impressive cocktails (obviously). My personal favorite was the house Hot Toddy, but the Blood and Sand is also top-notch! The Kentucky Mule is a personal take on the Moscow Mule, while the Sazerac is an instant classic, and the Stockton Pride is a delicious, smooth, flavorful surprise. One house "Special" that apparently a lot of regulars order (why?!) is something called a Ferrari shot, which is Campari and Frenet in a shot. It's worth trying once just for the experience, but definitely not my bag :P

Yelp
I moved to St. Louis during quarantine 2020 and while I had made a few food deliveries to workers at this location, I actually went for the first time as a customer a couple weeks ago and again tonight. A couple weeks ago I arrived at midnight, after work. I ordered a hot toddy, which was delicious, and tipped the bartender $4 on the $10 drink, because I appreciate the service. She herself was less appreciative... When last call came not long after, she completely ignored me. I wasn't going to ask for a specialty drink at last call, I was going to ask for a can, but she clearly had a misconception about me, because she ignored me and took other peoples orders and I had to have someone else order my can in order to get another drink for last call. I guess tipping well doesn't do anything to improve service these days. Or she just doesn't like women with short hair. Now tonight, at 10 PM on December 30, they are completely closed. And also when I came here in prior months to deliver food to the workers here, they were snotty and rude to me as well. When all I did was ask them questions about their operating hours because I live in the neighborhood and wanted to spend money at their business. I liked the people (customers) I met here, but the people who work here seem to have nothing but contempt for the customers, or at least for me. I like the drink selections, but I don't understand why the staff has to be such jerks. It's called the hospitality industry... If you don't like people maybe you should work in another field. I am nothing but polite and there's no reason why I was made to feel unwelcome there.

Yelp
This is a perfect Dive Bar! Cheep brews, "Think Stag" Friendly folks! Lots of regulars Seats outside and in. Good Music playing. Place seems to fill up the later the night goes on! Good Layout out! Cherokee street this is the bar I would call home if I lived here!

Yelp
Wow. Great example of what a bar should be. Friendly at tenders and great choice of beers and spirits. The bourbon selection is pretty good. Many staples but many unique brands. Their prices are very reasonable. Actually the best prices for their whiskies. Highly recommend his bar.

Ashley T.

Yelp
I was asked to leave immediately because back in Feb, a patron decided to pick a fight with me and tell me to go die 2 days before my first brain surgery in Feb. Tonight, I went to The Whiskey Ring and was on a date, minding my own business and enjoying a beer. Your bartender with glasses told me I had to leave because the chick who told me to go die asked him to make me leave. Is this how you run a business? By assuming people should be tossed without properly identifying who they are? Way to value people who are garbage? I did not even get to finish my beer that I paid for. I and my date well never return to this place and will warn others as well.

Yelp
+ AWESOME prices. Pours start at $5. Very affordable bar + Diverse selection of whiskey, scotch, bourbon, etc. + Sample before you choose a full pour + Full bar (other than whiskey) + Schlafly & other beers for non-whiskey drinkers The Whiskey Ring opened on Cherokee street just last month in December 2013. It's a few doors down from the Fortune Teller Bar and across the street from open-late waffler, Melt. The ambience is dark without many frills, but thoughtfully decorated. Tufted dark green/blue leather-esque booth seating, ample bar space, and plenty of room to stand around to mingle. It's a small and intimate bar, with 2-3 bartenders on staff at a time. We were taken care of by Miles and (Jason?) on the Friday night we came. You can get tastes of everything in shot glasses before you commit to a full pour, which starts at just $5. Their whiskey selection is displayed on paper menus 3 or 4 pages long and there is a short whiskey-based cocktail list. Think Old Fashioned, Sazerac, Manhattan, Kentucky Mule, etc. My bf complained of the Old Fashioned containing too much ice, but otherwise was a solid choice. I liked the Kentucky Mule, made with ginger beer and bourbon. This is a super affordable bar that doesn't skimp on quality or quantity - the bartenders take really good care of you, are knowledgeable about their whiskeys, and creative to boot. My girlfriend ordered a White Russian and since they didn't have milk, they made her a "Cafe Au Lait Russian" with Bailey's. I purchased 7 drinks (a mix of cocktails, beers, and whiskey pours) on my tab and my total came out to be only $46. I don't remember the last time I bought that many drinks and spent less than $50. Also eco-friendly here - they use the Square to swipe credit cards through their iPad. Makes tipping a cinch too. Receipts are emailed to you and not printed. Adding this bar to my repertoire of affordable, non-Library Annex drinking holes to frequent.

Yelp
I first ventured here as a result of a "pay it forward" challenge where bars would pass along a signature drink / favorite shot to take to the staff of another nearby bar and see how long we could keep it going. Several hops later, I found myself at the Whiskey Ring! Tons of booze selection! It's somewhat hipster yet divey, but it's charming. They also have a good beer selection. The bartenders are very knowledgeable about the huge whiskey selection and can help you narrow down a selection based on what you're in the mood to try. It would be so cool if they were a 3:00 bar, but as far as I know, nowhere on Cherokee has a 3AM license.

Yelp
I don't know how any one could be disappointed by this new spot! The selection of Whiskey can't be beat, and I think that most of the time at least one of the owners is present, which gives the place a very casual fee. I was really thinking this might be a hipster kind of bar but have really never got that vibe. Decor is shaping up nicely with booth seating, black velvet pictures and a retro Pee Wee/Chairy combo over the bar, which BTW, I believe was reclaimed from the old Off Broadway, if I remember the story correctly. Oh, and there's no TV, which is refreshing. While the focus is whiskey, they also have the staples and a nice selection of local brews on tap. My favorites so far: Pow Wow Rye, which is a rye made in the style of a gin & the White Manhattan, made with the locally distilled, Big Jake White Dog whiskey, from Still 630 - both are amazing. You can also order food from the neighborhood & bring it in, so this is nice too. Check them out!

Yelp
While on a road trip, we stopped overnight in STL and were tourist-ing around a bit when we stumbled upon The Whiskey Ring. We got there at a weird time so the inside was a ghost town, but there was a great little courtyard area buzzing with activity. This is a very casual "Bar"-type bar. Like if you close your eyes and think about a bar that you would see in a movie, this is that bar. The bartender was extremely friendly - suggesting, pouring, and discussing local beers off their curated list. I ended up sitting between the Fernet-Branca on tap (unfortunately out of order) and the breathtaking Game of Thrones pinball machine. We had a great night and I can confidently recommend this as an excellent spot for anyone's future beer-grabbing needs.

Yelp
Great drink menu and skilled bartenders. I enjoyed the Blood & Sand followed by a Kentucky Mule. My guy enjoyed his Sazerac and friends tasted a variety of their whiskeys. Music is old school country so it's a bit on the hokey side but it was fun.

Kapris C.

Yelp
This was a very chill and relaxed spot. This bar has been open for 6 years. I tried the Noah's Mill and it was amazing. Jack was an excellent bartender. Today was a rough day and ended on a wonderful night. I will definitely come back! I also tried both the Stockton Pride and my friend had the Blood and Sand! Both amazing classics!
google avatar

Rachel K.

Yelp
To be honest I'm not a whiskey/dark alcohol kinda girl but I met a friend here for drinks and was pleasantly surprised! It was casual and home-y with plenty of street parking. The bartender was sweet and we joked a bit about the silliness of having to carry around a paper license while you're waiting for a new one to be mailed to you. I had a Mule which was a whiskey based play on my beloved vodka Moscow Mules. What a great local ginger ale too--spicy! I also tried a blood and sand which was delicious as well. I for sure recommend this place for affordable, casual drinks.
google avatar

Yelp
Came here for a couple of drinks on a Wednesday night. A very relaxed vibe to the place. I'd call it a rock 'n roll dive. Order a bottle of Stag for cheap or try one of their top notch cocktails. Either way, you're in for a good time. The locals were friendly and I only ran into one sketchy dude who pretended to use my cell phone to call his girlfriend (I think he was trying to pull one over one me, oh well). I'll be back on my next visit to St. Louis.

Yelp
I am down with The Whiskey Ring! If you look at my past reviews of Cherokee Street establishments, I can be a little harsh about the area. Let me tell you, Yeeps. I was dead wrong about this street. It is quickly becoming my favorite area in St. Louis, just second behind The Grove. And The Whiskey Ring is a huge part of it. I've always had a curiosity with this establishment. There's just something cool and unique about it. Having just moved back to the city, I didn't waste time getting reacquainted with it. I went to an event that was focused on Stag beer. The bar apparently sells an obnoxious amount of the product, so they decided to have a Velvet Stag painting competition. They brought in several local artists and had the patrons vote on their favorite Velvet Stag painting. The bar had bought 20 cases of Stag, totaling 480 Stag beers. They damn near sold out of Stag. Needless to say, I had a great time supporting my artist friend and drank a little too much. Thank goodness for Uber! The shell has been cracked, but there's so much to this bar. I love the staff and management, which is rare for an area saturated with hipsters. If you're gonna put a ring on it, make it a Whiskey Ring! Great place!
google avatar

Natalie J.

Yelp
Like Gamlin, but cheaper and less pretentious. There's a well-edited cocktail menu divided between classics and seasonals. I enjoyed my Vieux Carre and Sazerac. There's also a really nice whiskey list--a bit heavy on the rye, though. Beer, too, if liquor's not your thing. I found the atmosphere pleasantly boisterous between the crowd and the blaring classic rock. I'll definitely be back.
google avatar

Yelp
I came here during the print bazaar. The drinks were pretty good, but it took a long time for us to get them. When we sat down we looked around for someone that worked at the bar but could find no one. It turns out that the bartender was outside having a smoke. Once she returned we got our drinks fairly quickly. The place does seem pretty nice. I will definitely come back to try more of what this place has to offer.
google avatar

Brandi O.

Yelp
Nice corner bar. Calm vibe, good atmosphere. Drinks are reasonably priced and the selection is wide. Hot summer days are pretty slow, but prefect time for chatting and relaxing.

Yelp
First look: Hip bar on Cherokee Street providing an alternative venue, with similar feel, to the Fortune Teller Bar just a few storefronts down. The Whiskey Ring wasn't as dark and moody as we expected to be, which was nice, really: the vibe was comfortable but fun. The bartender was knowledgable and friendly, pointing me toward some beginner choices off the extensive menu. Prices for the different pours would have been appreciated -- more tentative patrons might stick with beers because they're too uncomfortable asking! The place was loud. Looking forward to returning sometime soon.

Yelp
Headed down to Cherokee to FINALLY check out this place on a Saturday night. It's been on my list for awhile and I really love whiskey so I was looking forward to trying new brands. We sat at the bar and we were greeted right away and given menus. The place has a dark, cozy feel. It's casual but not trashy. I started off with an Old Fashioned since I've had that before and wanted to compare. I think it was about 6 bucks so good deal and they made it perfect for me. Hubby tried a 12 yr old scotch called The Balvenie (AWESOME!!!). We have this at home but haven't tried it yet. If you're new to scotch....this is a really good one to try. We had it neat and also tried it with a drop or two of water later....both ways are really good. Later, hubby got the 4 Hands Divided Sky Rye IPA on tap and I tried the The Stockton Pride....I REALLY liked that one. It's on the cocktail list. We also ordered an Irish Coffee to try it and loved that too. :) I know some people called this a "hipster" bar....but I really didn't get that vibe at all. I guess it all depends on the night but I think there were all types of patrons when we went. They are open 7 days a week now.
google avatar

David A.

Yelp
Very good whiskey collection, asked for an Old Fashioned ruined with maraschino cherry.
google avatar

Yelp
Went here this past weekend and will defin visit again. Super friendly bartender who gave lots of suggestions of where to visit and made amazing drinks
google avatar

Yelp
Great, just great. I'm surprised to see there aren't more review for this place. If it's a well kept secret, then I'm glad I stumbled upon it. The Kentucky Mule was extremely delicious and made just right. The bartender definitely has dedication to his job. It's nice to see someone that doesn't just pour and serve. This is certainly a neighborhood bar. You come here to chat, gossip, and drink one more than you should. If you want to chat it up, sit at the bar. If you want privacy, sit along the wall. If you want to enjoy the evening, they have some outside seating. This isn't the place you go get "turnt up" or whatever ridiculous saying the kids are using these days. You'd probably start or end your night here. If I lived in STL, then I would undoubtedly frequent this bar and this area.
google avatar

Abby S.

Yelp
This place is great if you're into whiskey, duh! We came here straight from arriving into town. The beer selection is also good and the outdoor patio is a pretty good size. Oh and the last call is 5 mins before they kick everyone out, so chug your beers!
google avatar

Kelly B.

Yelp
The Whiskey Ring is the newest addition to the Cherokee Street expansion and the whiskey bar circuit. Located near the popular new Fortune Teller Bar, they feature a host of whiskey offerings, local and budget beers, as well as, other spirits. The place is small, but rustic. Filled with hipsters and locals. They take plastic, but they don't serve food. They do allow outside food. They just opened so they're still working out the kinks.
google avatar

Lisa C.

Yelp
Pretty much a hipster kind of bar, but as long as they're pouring decent bourbons and scotches, I can stand a scraggly beard or two. They have a pretty good selection of bourbons to choose from. I'd like to see a few more scotches on the menu. Had a Japanese scotch that was very interesting. Pours are fairly cheap, and the bartenders are friendly and knowledgeable. Looking forward to going again.
google avatar

Kayetta C.

Yelp
I visited this place very late one night with a friend. I like the set up. The bathroom was clean. The staff is friendly. This is a non smoking facility. I tried a Kentucky mule, it was great and really strong. I enjoyed it and would definitely go back.
google avatar

Cori S.

Yelp
What can I say, I pretty much fell in love. But seriously, it is on Cherokee, so hipster goes without saying. However on several occasions that I have gone there, the crowd is diverse. Very comfortable atmosphere and the staff is very friendly and knows their stuff. Great selection of whiskey, as well as vodka and rum. Last time I was in they were working on getting their taps up, so I think the beer selection will be good by then (though they have a few good choices of bottles). Prices are great for the pour and the whole experience. They do not have food but allow you to bring it in. Definitely worth a trip just to check it out.
google avatar

MaryPat M.

Yelp
We went on a Friday night with friends, got there around 8pm, the staff was very helpful in explaining the different cocktails. I really enjoyed the Stockton. From other reviews I think the prices went up, mine was $8.00. I also had a Civil Life Brown... SO good. We also tried Angels Envy whiskey, which was super smooth. By 9:30 this place turned into a 25 year old hipster joint.. and they got LOUD.. So for me I think this will always be an early bar. Bathrooms are clean, music at the right volume. I'm looking forward to going back.
google avatar

Susan W.

Yelp
I appreciate whiskey. And I will say that this place delivered great service and a fine drink. The bartender was approachable and helpful. The velvet paintings are awesome, I strongly suggest one takes a few minutes to just roam the place. I will say in the early evenings the sun can be a bit much, a little blinding, but there are plenty of good seats at the bar.
google avatar

Sara D.

Yelp
We walked into this place to kill some time before a show at 2720. I liked it the moment I stepped foot into it. You can tell it's new, it smelled like fresh wood. There's an excellent selection of whiskey plus the bartenders know their stuff. I had an awesome Suburban and a very smooth bourbon on the rocks. I don't even drink bourbon that way, but this place just made me want to. Lots of men with mountain beards. Bartenders wear suspenders. Good music in the background. This place is awesome if you like whiskey, and a good place to have conversation and listen to music. Oh, and we thought it would be pricey due to the whiskey selection, but each of our drinks were $5. Not too shabby.
google avatar

David A.

Yelp
This is a solid bar. I headed over to The Whiskey Ring, with a few friends after eating dinner at Sidney Street Cafe, for the first time and was not disappointed. It was actually busy for a Tuesday evening with a really cool vibe. I opted for the sazerac first and then tried a few of the drafts. The prices were very reasonable. I love the feel of Cherokee Street these days. Enjoy places like this now because when gentrification comes it will bring strollers and sports bars. I'll go back.
google avatar

Edward L.

Yelp
Stopped in while waiting for a table at a nearby restaurant. Whiskey in the name the bar drew me in that's my drink of choice. Good selection mostly Rye and Bourbons. Limited scotch. Friendly environment cocktails well made. I'd recommend it as a place to stop and have a drink while waiting for a table. Cherokee Street continues to have more to offer.
google avatar

Al S.

Yelp
So...this my new favorite drinking establishment in the Cherokee district. Great place to sip on a tasty, local brew and people watch during the warmer months. The staff is always friendly and ready to serve. They also have a phenomenal selection of whiskey and often have free tasting events during Cherokee Nights. The atmosphere is laid back, and there are always interesting people to meet and chat up. If in need for a pint or hand crafted cocktail - check them out!
google avatar

Kyle K.

Yelp
I went to Whiskey Ring thinking, "I'm a big whiskey fan; I love the Cherokee area; I'll love this!" I left thinking that it has potential but just isn't there yet. The bartender was knowledgeable, but awkward and pushy - a little too into the conversation my friend and I were privately having. The whiskey range is great, but somewhat overpriced and underpoured (I know EVERYONE complains about this, but I'm a serious drinker and a bartender; I almost never think I'm getting less than I should; I love a $9 cocktail; this was just generally too little for too much). The setup is fine, if nothing new. It all left me feeling pretty nonplussed - maybe good for one or two drinks, but not really somewhere I'd go with any regularity or for any length of time.
google avatar

Derrick L.

Yelp
Went on a Friday night. They have a great selection of different whiskeys, scotches, 8 beers on draught. Have booth and bar seating. A little divey but that's cool with me. Just wish they had whiskey balls.
google avatar

Miss M.

Yelp
Whiskey....I don't think I need to write any more, but I will. The cocktails are top notch, but they have beer, and maybe milk if you're a total wiener. Love all the velvet paintings. They give the place some depth, ya know? There was a dog there, I like dogs.
google avatar

Andrea J.

Yelp
Five dollar make you holler! Cherokee nights this is the place to be! Iowa buffet, great whiskey cocktails and some mighty fine tastings. I love this street! Old fashioned, get in my belly, yum yum yum!

Nia S.

Yelp
Great Drinks and Phenomenal Service!!! Jack made me and my friend a Blood and Sand and a Stockton Pride!!! DELICIOUS!! And the Noah's Hill was great! I will be a regular!
google avatar

Yelp
Great atmosphere and service. Excellent choice of whiskeys (obviously)!! Great hangout.
google avatar

Javier Quiere Comer... ..

Yelp
Great Whiskey based cocktail menu. I tried, but failed to go down their list in one sitting. Sazerac and mule were the highlights. Love the feel of the bar too. Bar keeps we're really nice and helped out with any questions... I hope to next time bump into Clownvis. Get here!
google avatar

Andre J.

Yelp
I absolutely love this place--the perfect place for the "icebreaker" date! They've so many whiskeys to offer, the prices are good, and, it's a nice and fun place to be---it's the best bar on Cherokee St.!
google avatar

Leonard V.

Yelp
A great selection of Whiskeys, a Juke Box, good beer listing and friendly service. Always a good spot to stop for a good pour of a good selection of Whiskeys at non Gamlin House pricing!
