I hosted a work reception for 35 people and Whisky Parlor was the perfect choice. The appetizer menu is large and varied, and the food was delicious. The bar staff were friendly and knowledgeable and they took great care of our group. The drinks were fresh and delicious and staff were incredibly attentive to our needs. The space itself is fantastic, with kind of a modern urban warehouse vibe, with exposed brick and great woodwork. It's spacious enough to hold a large group and it's set with several groupings of both hard and soft furniture that makes it easy to gather in smaller groups. A huge bonus is that it's a private space on the 2nd floor and it has it's own private entrance off the street. I highly recommend Whisky Parlor for special occasions, or just a great spot to hang out with friends.

Google
Dark, quiet upper level bar. Cozy and intimate place for getting a cocktail. Hard to notice from the street and you can easily walk right by it without noticing it. Drinks were really good and so was the service. I will definitely be coming back. I came back several more times and I have to say that I am really impressed with the quality of the bartenders and cocktail crafting that they do. For a high end result without the high end price come here.

Cynthia Marley

Google
Amazing experience and very knowledgeable bartenders who made some of the best drinks I've ever had!! I wish the signage was better as we walked past the entrance a few times before stumbling upon it. The front door is on the right of the Grand Trunk Pub patio.

Google
A cozy lounge with a friendly and attentive staff. We were looking for an intimate venue to host 15-20 clients for an evening get-together. We found this establishment to be a perfect fit for what we had in mind. The building has a fascinating history and it was lovingly restored. The lounge is tastefully and eclecticly decorated. The whisky collection is an eye-opener. The staff is thoroughly knowledgeable and they made our guests feel comfortable and very well catered to. I will visit this place again next time I am in Detroit, and I will host another function here again if given the opportunity.

Google
Hands down my favorite bar in Downtown Detroit. Live music on Saturday nights, great playlists the rest of the time. Even when it's busy it doesn't feel cramped. Intimate, cozy & mysterious at times. It almost feels like a speakeasy. The whiskey selection is massive, so your best bet is to order a flight & tell the bartender what you normally drink so they can build customized to your taste. They haven't steered me wrong yet.

Daniel Garrett

Google
One of my favorite places to grab a drink between the soft couches, atmosphere, and excellent selection of spirits and cocktails.

Ginger Hazzard

Google
Great place. Keep an eye on extra charges, such as the credit card fee and additional service fees.

Google
I really like this place. The space is super cool and comfortable, and they generally have interesting and well made cocktails. Was here most recently on a Saturday night and they had a DJ. The music was good, but too loud to hold a decent conversation. IMO, the atmosphere here lends itself better to something more chill.

Yelp
The place really is what it seems. Coming here, you won't regret it and you won't get bored either. I personally enjoyed being here. A person who is alone cannot be bored because there are many good books on the shelf. It is a quiet and peaceful environment. The service is also good. I like for example. Thanks to all.

Yelp
Cool parlor with a speakeasy vibe. I stopped by The Whiskey Parlor after a long day of "conferencing" at Cobo Center. Stepping into the bar is like going back in time (in a good way). The low lighting gives the bar a nice jazzy feel. I visited the bar right around 5 on a Thursday. There were not many people in the bar, which was great for me since I was looking for a more quiet type of place. However, I did strike up a conversation with a regular patron and the bartender, Cory (sp?). As the name implies, this bar has an EXTENSIVE list of various whiskey and a list of 10+ special cocktails. I tried The Detroit, which is pretty stiff and aromatic cocktail. Although Whiskey Parlor has a long list of whiskeys, the bar also has plenty of nice gins, which are more my flavor. All in all, I would definitely visit The Whiskey Parlor if I ever visit Detroit again.

Yelp
The Whiskey Parlor has a nice drink menu. They also have wine, beer and a food. We did not eat (all we had was cheese and crackers) so I can't give you any feedback on the menu. The parlor is upstairs. It's dark and really intimate. It definitely sets the tone for the evening. We had a huge party next to us and they were kinda rude. They pulled all the chair to their one table basically making the place their own without asking the server if they could. Other than that the music was cool and the vibe was chill. I had a drink called (I think) the Detroiter. I didn't like it but my other drinks were good. The venue is in a great location and you have the option of sitting at the bar, tables or table tops. If you like a variety of things to drink this spot I'm sure will satisfy you.

Yelp
A well known Detroit "Speakeasy," well recommended by numerous on-line sources. So the Whiskey and Vodka drinkers in our group paid late night respects following a baseball game. The other guys, probably wiser, express a sense skittishness about the streets and retired for the night. So off we ventured, confident in our path and only being a couple of blocks from the Hotel. The street was found, but the signage into the Parlor wasn't easily seen. On the second pass, a door way up a narrow flight of stairs lie the Whisky Parlor. Therefore, easily lending to the Speakeasy. Inside, a DJ played Club mixes to a mellow group of scattered in plush low back seating. The patrons were young(er), old(er), and ethically diverse from the Metro. The seats were being served late night snacks and liquified concoctions from the bar in the back. We swaggered straight for the bar, which quickly yielded four front row stools to the best show in town; the bar tender. This guy was non-stop action rarely pausing. And when he did, he shared his wealth of knowledge of nearly every Whiskey, Bourbon, Vodka, Gin, and so on. A pro behind the bar and very likable. Three of us sipped on some fine Scotch Whisky and the fourth a Vodka at the maestros recommendation. The conversation was insightful and enjoyed; from sports, to politics, personal philosophies, food, and grog. Then the question, "Refills Gentlemen?" Why not, a second pour to cap the night, but not to over indulge and cause a stagger in our Swagger back to the Hotel. A memorable moment while in Detroit.

Yelp
*Cracks fingers because I haven't done a review in decades* I went downtown with some friends and bounced around until we ended up at The Whisky Parlor. First of all they take mood lighting to another level as all the lights in here are dim and the atmosphere was very jazzy(like there is a DJ literally playing jazz). I enjoyed my drink and the cracker spread we ordered. Can't say I remember how much anything costs as a friend decided to treat us but I get the feeling it was a pretty penny so bring your pocket book. All in all it's a nice lowkey spot to chill with some friends if you're in the midtown area.

Yelp
Too bad they're closed, we really wanted to go there ASAP after the pandemic restrictions were lifted. The kitchen is Grand Funk's. I ordered the 1/3 lb. burger, and it didn't seem like 1/3#, more like 1/4# but it was ok. Good salad, although way too much onion! Thankfully you can move it aside without much problem. I had drams of Aberlour 12 and Ardbeg to counter the mediocre food. A tad pricey, there are few seats, but it's a great downtown location. And if you're lucky they'll have live music when you go.

Yelp
This place absolutely deserves a 5 star! Romantic check Jazz check Whiskey check Me and my boo was lucky enough to get a seat on a Saturday night! There was live jazz playing., romantically dim lit candle lights with one of the best cocktails I've had in a while! The whiskey parlor did live up to their name by bringing the A game to whiskey and bourbon based cocktails. 1. The menu was a pretty coppery cover and I was impressed with the content: it was introducing whiskeys they carried like a true whiskey bar. Starting with the regions it's from. They had a good Japanese whiskey selection as well which was impressive 2. The jazz was phenomenal and there was no cover charge. With a whole band + a cello. We truly enjoyed the whole live experience. 3. Now to start with the whiskeys. I got the orange blossom which had that orange peel scent & my boo got brayndy (you're a fine glass). Brayndy was a little sweeter and smoother but strong! They were both exquisite. They also describe the notes they'll hit in the menu pretty well and they did deliver! Overall? Next date night? We will definitely be back

Yelp
What a nice find. Came on a Saturday night with my fiance. It was jazz night. No cover!!! Space was tight and if you're lucky you might be able to come with a group as I saw several groups with six or more but most of the tables are for four or two. The space has a speak easy feel and the jazz musicians were excellent. The waiter greeted us promptly. I got the BRANDAYE (you're a fine gurl) and my fiancé got the orange blossom. I preferred my drink The brandaye has hints of sweetness, floral and nutty warmth tones. Damn this thing was delicious. I can't consider myself a whiskey connoisseur so I can't comment on the rest of the menu but I have a feeling you can't go wrong with any of their signature cocktails. And take it from me - a no nothing whiskey guy who just appreciates drinks that have a kick and taste good. The brandaye is excellent. I definitely recommend checking this place out and I will be returning to check out more of their drink menu. I have not checked out the food menu yet, so will defer from commenting on that.

Yelp
This place has a great cool vibe. I was the first person there for happy hour on a Friday and the bartenders were friendly and fun. It's dark and kind of velvety with old school furnishings and turntables up front. Late night sounds like a good time and I'd like to return for that for sure. I had some very interesting conversation and strong drinks.

Yelp
Speak easy... PERIOD Review done!! Yea right,, I wish I was that simple. But let me tell you about my new spot to frequent. Whether you're waiting for the crew to assemble OR after hanging out with the crew and final drink to talk smack about that one friend nobody likes. This is the spot I go to. It's quiet, it's hidden and it's totally the best place to have a drink. Do whatever grown up thing you like to do, like have a conversation without the obnoxious girls wearing the "Just Turned 21" tiara or the social suicide "Bachelorette" sash. Don't get me wrong, I equally abhor the jock heads yelling "YEA!" every 5 minutes followed by high fives. Please leave me alone,, I'll be at the Whiskey Parlor with my Rodney Special or my basic Old Fashioned. I love this place and I love everything about it. Thank you very much for reading my review. Enjoy your yelptastic day!! Weeeeeeee!!!

Yelp
I love live music and wanted to go somewhere with it but so many places require reservations and show seatings. So I stumbled across this place on Yelp and decided to check it out. The music was amazing. The guy signing had a wonderful voice and he and his bandmate covered mainly r&b, putting their own spin on it. Atmosphere is cozy and intimate. Also, no cover charge. I would say if you are looking for a nice and relaxing night out, this place is definitely worth checking out!

Yelp
LOVE LOVE LOVE. Did I mention that I absolutely LOVE this place? Showed up on a Tuesday night when it wasn't busy. The vibe is very chill, as a speakeasy should be. I struck up conversation with Corrie (I hope I spelled her name correctly), and she's very fun and down to earth. At another visit, she totally remembered me, which was quite sweet considering the number of people a bartender sees daily. I learned that all the cocktails are crafted by the bartenders and I'm definitely a fan of their work. On weekends, they have live bands playing swanky jazz music. This is my secret retreat when I need alone time. But now the secret's out. Please check this place out so it stays in Detroit forever.

Yelp
Yes, yes, and yes. Amazing whiskey, bourbon, scotch list that you will die for. If you know a thing or two, ogle the bar for limited off the menu bottles. Weller, col t Williams, blantons, willet, buffalo trace, the list goes on. Live music on our visit was amazing and all the tunes on between sets were great too! I would live here if I could but who can afford it?! You May have to wait a while for a seat as this place is very much a lounge and seating can be sparse. You will want to stop for a cocktail, a dram or a sound either way and this place is Highly recommended. 5 stars.

Yelp
This is a great place to meet friends for drinks!!! It is a very warm, cozy, quaint, sexy, romantic and trendy spot to kick back. Upon arrival there was some nice jazzy/upbeat tunes that filled the room, however, later in the evening there was a live DJ that took to the stage and mixed up some great techno and jazz that really added a nice vibe. I felt like I was hanging with close friends in my own basement. The drink menu is rather upscale with some rare / high end scotch, bourbon and whiskey at reasonable prices. I'm looking forward to returning here soon!

Yelp
TLDR: SLOW almost nonexistent service and overpriced. Came here last night (Saturday 7/29) with a party of three. When we first walked up the stairs we were greeted by a gentleman who told us we had to wait until another table opened up. So a friend and I were playing chess while my other companion was just standing. After a couple minutes, the people that were sitting in the couch next to us were done and left. 5 minutes passed by and I had to ask for a drink menu. Another 5-10 minutes pass and no one had even asked us if we wanted anything to drink. It seemed as if two people were serving the whole place which I think is completely insufficient. Who knows, maybe someone called off. But at least have a backup. Where's the manager to pick up the slack? Seems like a nice place but after 15 minutes of not asking how we are, or welcoming us, or asking us what we wanted to drink, we had no problem leaving. Also, extremely overpriced -- they sold a shot of a 17 y/o scotch for almost $50 when you can buy the bottle for $100. LOL Cheers! Maybe I'll have better luck at Bad Luck Bar lol

Yelp
Great experience and lived up to the hype! Sad that the Tigers got rained out because it brought the wet drunks in, but nonetheless loved it! The oldest bar is their claim, I would be shamed not to stop in after calling myself a bourbon man. Long and extensive list of whiskeys from every corner of the globe. Reasonably priced and live music for free$.99! Thursday is their live jazz night so what a treat for me! A+++

Yelp
Great speakeasy vibe and where you'll find some of the best bartenders in town. The ambiance is prefect. The cut out ceiling and uplighting really sets a great mood. The decor is well thought out and the variety in tables and seating is perfect for the venue. The bartenders here are top notch, I rarely order anything off of the paper menu because creativity is what they do best. They do serve food from downstairs at Grand Truck if the kitchen is still open. It's a craft cocktail bar, drinks are priced accordingly. The Whisky Parlor has a great spot that is still *slightly* more hidden than the other craft cocktail spots now flooded with people flocking from the 'burbs looking for some "Detroit"
google avatar

Yelp
The Whiskey Parlor is a tucked away hidden gem upstairs from Grand Trunk Pub. It reminds me of the secret basement speakeasies that are ever present in Chicago. Dark, sexy, moody, candle lit speakeasy with red walls, nostalgic old world photos and book cases and a cool blue lit ceiling with a mysterious winding staircase in the ceiling corner. There are lots of square and round tables and a few big leather sofas in the middle area for lounging. I can't believe it wasn't busier here on a Saturday night! It must still be a best-kept secret. It was steady but not overwhelmingly busy and we easily found a table. On Thursday and Saturday nights from 8-10 pm and 8 pm - 12 am respectively, they have a free no cover jazz and blues band. We came on Saturday night and the band was very good, very talented, chill and relaxing music. They did a drum solo that was impressive. As for the main driving attraction, the libations are equally impressive. They have an extensive whiskey, scotch and bourbon list priced from $9 to $65 from Four Roses, Detroit City Distillery, Woodsford Reserve, Bulleit, and more. My friend ordered a $50 aged Dalmore Cigar Malt scotch, neat, no longer in production and it was excellent. They also offer vodka, gin, and rum spirits as well as wine and cocktails. Cocktails are priced $11-$16 and most glasses of wine are around $9. I had the orange blossom cocktail, which I loved, made with Four Roses bourbon, St. Germain, aperol, orange bitters and honey. The cocktail was fragrant, and the combination of flavors was complex and the bourbon, honey and orange complimented each other well. The Detroit cocktail with bourbon, compari, and black pepper was also good, a nice combination of sweet and spicy but not as good as the Orange Blossom. They also offer food including bison burgers, truffle fries, charcuterie, and desserts such as a cheesecake with house-cured bourbon cherries. Really enjoyed my night here. Great place for a date night, or relaxing evening with friends. I can't wait to return.

Yelp
Found this place on a fluke and absolutely loved it. Friendly servers and bartenders with great conversation, awesome whiskey and scotch choices with a very comfy and cozy ambiance. Would definitely go back.

Yelp
Nice spot with good ambience, whiskey, bourbon and scotch selection and good bartenders. My uncle recommended I stop by here when I was in town for a quick visit and I was not disappointed. I wanted to try some Michigan whiskey and the bartenders had great recommendations. I'll be back next time I come to town

Yelp
OMG!!! This place has such a beautiful, intimate, sexy environment. If you are looking to get out of the house for a date night, I recommend trying out The Whisky Parlor. It has dim lighting, candles on each table, and a jazz artist to spice up your night. The cocktail menu is exactly how I like it: descriptive, concise, and imaginative. From the details, I can tell how each drink will taste. The Whiskey menu is pretty extensive, however, which is expected since it is named The Whisky Parlor. They offer a variety of bourbons, rye, Tennessee, American, Canadian, Asian, and Irish whiskeys so you should be able to find something that more than soothes, but excites your pallet. These selections can range anywhere from $6 a drink to $74. If you are similar to me, and are looking to drink something more lifestyle friendly, then they also offer a spirits portion as well. The food menu is also concise, but they offer some solid choices so I would recommend trying. I had the Whisky Parlor Sandwich which contains grilled chicken breast, bacon marmalade, ham, whisky cheddar and lettuce. It was juicy and delicious. The fries were great as well. Overall, I love the ambience and relaxed nature, so I'd definitely come again.

Yelp
Extensive whiskey list, dark and cozy without being over the top and pretentious. Bartenders who care and listen. Get here.

Yelp
I am here currently and I absolutely adore this place! It has a great atmosphere. Shawn our bartender is so well spoken and knows everything about this place and what it has to offer! They have a live musician who also fits in perfectly and isn't to loud. They have tables, also couches and lounge chairs. Great place to enjoy whisky and relax!

Yelp
Cute place with incredible drinks. Their Whiskey Sour is the BEST. Prices aren't too bad either.

Yelp
Shout out to Joe, who made me a delicious drink, when I asked him if I could be obnoxious and request a drink with St. Germain. Well, also cuz he's just awesome. We came up here on a Friday night, I believe. There was a DJ spinnin but the place wasn't crowded at all. Y'all sleepin on this joint! I enjoyed my fruity elderflowery drink and C had a smoky green whiskey drink. Definitely my kind of place. I'll be back when I'm in the D!
google avatar

Yelp
If you are looking for a Speakeasy feel and a phenomenal selection of whiskeys, look no further. The lighting is low and there is various lounge type of seatings to go with the smooth jazz that was being played over the sound system. It's a great atmosphere to unwind and carry on conversations. The cocktails are top notch and the service is great. I enjoyed a couple Bulleit Bourbon Old Fashioneds and an order of the Rueben Poutine. The food is brought up from the Grand Turk Pub downstairs which is delicious and prompt. I will gladly come back again and plan to stop in again over the course of my trip.

Yelp
Damn, this place is sexy as hell! "Parlor" really is a great word for this place. Up the stairs, you'll find a dim, eccentric sitting room with a good variety of seating and a tiny little bar, about five stools crowded up to it. The high ceilings, the lighting, the globes... I totally love the look. Whiskey is the name of the game, but you can get a good handful of other spirits if you're dragged here by someone else. Obviously, a good selection of whiskey, bourbon, and my personal favorite: Scotch!! If I have one suggestion, it's this: try the Lossit exclusive! Talk to the bartenders. They're not just some schmucks who open domestic bottles all day, they know their stuff. And they had some great suggestions! If I were a rich man (ya da dadada... Sorry...) I'd be here MUCH more often.
google avatar

Neil K.

Yelp
Two of my friends and I spent a Friday evening at the Whisky Parlor. We enjoyed ourselves. Our server was helpful and quick, but a little dry and non-conversational. The menu of whiskys is extensive. Good for someone who is looking to get into whisky, or someone who has experience with different whiskys and bourbons. Their old-fashioned is tasty, but a bit sweet. The whisky parlor sandwich was flavorful and complemented the drinks quite well. The only recommendation I would have is that single malts and scotch blends be served in a a copita nosing glass rather than a rocks glass or a tumbler, especially if the customer orders neat. Great environment and great experience at the Whisky Parlor.

Yelp
Right above Grand Trunk Pub. Has a cool underground feel to it. Came on a Saturday night - just popped in on a whim after finishing up at Grand Trunk and hearing the fabulous music coming through the walls. It was about 1 am and there were only a few people in there which was fine because we were looking for a more intimate place. Dim lit and unique music coming from the live DJ that made for a very for a very swanky feel. the cocktails are crafted and good, I tried a few sips of my guests drinks. im not as adventerous in the drink department so i just got a bottle of craft beer. be prepared to spend some money on the drinks tho! Overall i really liked the atmophere and i will definitly come back.

Yelp
Already looking forward to returning to this intimate and cozy spot. Like many places in the past, we chose this one simply based on the yelp reviews. No regrets! Great live music. Tasty and good quality cocktails (a bit on the small size though). Friendly service.

Yelp
Downtown? Like whiskey and old time cocktails? Enjoy good food? Then this place is now on your to-do list, and you're welcome. With drinks comprised every every major spirit group to an extensive and exhaustive list of whiskeys that its going to take me (hopefully) a long, long time to get through, this place is definitely on my list of faves. Located right above Grand Trunk, you have big comfy leather couches and chairs to hang out in, an attentive and helpful waitstaff, and a great vibe to the place that too many others try...and fail...to achieve.

Yelp
I've gone there many times over the last 5 years It's such a gem. And must for ANYONE knowledgeable about whiskey, scotch or bourbon. Wonderfully original selection, soothing atmosphere.

Yelp
Where do 3 girls with affinities for whiskey go on a Saturday night downtown? To the Whisky Parlor of course! This bar is right next door to Grand Trunk. You just have to walk up a flight of stairs to get to the bar. They have a small bar, couches closer to the window, and several tables which some were reserved. The host said it would be a wait time of 15-20 mins for a table so we decided to run next door to Trunk for a few shots before our table was ready. We spent a bit longer at Trunk than anticipated, but when we went back up to Whisky Parlor we were able to get seated right away. They had 3 specialty drinks that night and we got all three to try: Spicy watermelon, whiskey sour, and a red fruity one that I can't remember (that's what a flight of scotch will do to you). All the drinks were delicious! The atmosphere reminded me of Sugarhouse, but with more red lights. The music was way too loud. The place got crowded really quickly, so we were glad that we got in at the right time (10:45pm-ish on a Saturday). I definitely will be back to try their other cocktails!

Yelp
Would give less than one star if able.. brought some out of town guests here a few weeks ago. We were looking for a cool spot for an after dinner drink. We have never been here before so thought we would check it out. We went to the upstairs bar, which was almost empty. One of my guests went up to the bar to ask for a recommendation. He is an avid whiskey fan and was looking to try something new and unique. The bartender was extremely rude and simply said "there are menus on the tables." Obviously these people do not have passion for whiskey, which is surprising, given the name. My guest was so put off by the treatment that we left. Great impression on Detroit.
google avatar

Amanda S.

Yelp
This place is definitely a nice spot to relax and drink whiskey. It's very cozy and comfortable. We came just to drink some bourbon while we waited for a concert to start but we enjoyed our time here. There weren't many bourbons on their menu that were necessarily hard to find. We'd tried most of them but there were a few new to us bourbons and ryes and our server made some good recommendations based on what we knew we liked. I would definitely return the next time I'm in town looking for a chill spot to relax and get a drink.

Yelp
Yassss favorite place to drink. Expensive but worth it. The bartenders can make you whatever you want and are super knowledgeable. My favorite is Nolan he kills it. One drink everyone knows the rules 5.0

Nikki D.

Yelp
I would give this place 0 stars if I could. I guess the ambiance/decoration gets the 1 star... The selection is not good. The whiskys here are #basic, but they seem to think they're amazing. I was not impressed at all. Prices are steep. $19 for Blanton's? Buy a bottle for $70 somewhere else. Service was SLOW. Like, almost non-existent. Our waiter came to us with menus after sitting for about 10-15 minutes. He then didn't come back for about the same amount of time. When we were ready to order, everything we wanted was out. It'd be nice if they noted that on the menu - just cross it off! The menus are paper anyway. After trying 3 different orders, an old fashioned was suggested to me. But I'll get to that in a minute. It then took a LONG time (I stopped counting) to get our orders. How long does it take to pour liquid over ice anyway? We moved to a bigger table when our friends arrived, the ordering/receiving service process took just as long as before. We got the check and he then didn't come get it for like 20 min, then intercepted me on my way to the bar and said I needed to cash out with him. "Oh I didn't know you were waiting" WHAT? When customers make an order and request the check with it, that usually notes they want to be able to go quickly. Pro tip. So the Old Fashioned was suggested to me after trying to order 2 different cherry bourbons. That's not how that works. If you're going to run a whisky bar, at least know that. I settled on it, and when it came to me there were no cherries in it! Did the bartender not know how to make it properly? I was so confused. Then, all the sugar was just sitting at the bottom of the glass. I feel like I'm echo'ing, but if you're going to run a whisky bar know how to make the most simple cocktails! Anyway, I don't know why people like this place. I wouldn't waste your time or energy.

Yelp
Everything you want out of a Bar/Lounge. Relaxed but fun with a passionate & knowledgeable staff. The parlor caters to everyone whether you're a local or passing through, alone or in a group, novice whiskey drinker or want to adventure into craft cocktails. Offering events all through the week (: Live music on weekends, movie Monday's Tuesdays game night & service industry Sundays. I love this bar

Yelp
Came by here for an evening drink after reading the great reviews on Yelp. They have some unique and distinctive cocktails with local whiskeys as well. I would get the Detroit for sure, it was the best out of the several I tested from within our group. The decor is pretty cool, the service was great. It wasn't jammed but it was somewhat busy.

Yelp
If you're a whiskey fan, I would highly recommend checking this place out. I'm not, but I went with some friends who are huge whiskey fans. They LOVED the wide selection of whiskey. The prices on the menu are for a 2 oz. pour - you can ask for a 1 oz. pour for half the price. This place is right above Grand Trunk Pub, and it's almost like a speakeasy - I've walked by the door many times without noticing it. The bartender was knowledgeable and helpful. My favorite part? You can order food off Grand Trunk Pub's menu, and they will bring it right upstairs to you. I had a Finnigan (sandwich with chicken breast, mozzarella, and arugula) with my glass of red wine while my friends sipped on whiskey, and it was an enjoyable night for all.

Yelp
Stopped by the whiskey parlor tonight for a little Saturday night date night and here are my take aways: Decor: love it !!!! Omg I don't know if they do this every weekend but they have a live jazz musician and he's giving out on the electric guitar and keyboard. The place has a gorgeous second level opening that allows you to view it but is unfortunately only accessible for employees. This place has the style and class I would expect of a laid back downtown establishment. It's provided ample time for me and my girlfriend to talk to one another but still be social with those around us. Love it A+ on the design and decor . Food: I ordered the whiskey parlor sandwich. It comes with grilled chicken and bacon ( how can you go wrong with bacon right ???) on a poppyseed bun and with chips or fries. I opted for the fries and the sandwich was delicious. I definitely recommend it. The chicken was so succulent and the overall sandwich was definitely better than many I have experienced in the detroit area .When you go there and you try it tell them pierre sent you . Mentioning my name won't get you a discount or kudos but it will make me feel warm inside. Customer service : service was great at this establishment . Heads up the kitchen closes at midnight ( similar to basically all other bars / restaurants ) so make sure you stop by a little before midnight if you're late heading out like I am. Drinks: The boom boom Washington was ( those are flame emojis for those of on non apple devices ). It's one of the house cocktails that comes with gran gala , green chile, simple syrup , pineapple , and fresh lemon . It was delicious. Spoiler alert : I'm not a big whiskey man so I opted for the vodka cocktail but it was worth it. This drink will have you moonwalking on cloud 9 while you are high giving penguins and talking to ewoks. Overall : definitely recommend checking out this place . It gets 5 well earned stars from me . Loved my experience and plan to come back very soon .

Yelp
Had a great experience at Whisky Parlor before a concert recently. My wife and I are both whiskey drinkers, and we had eaten downstairs at Grand Trunk and decided to head up the steps for some additional cocktails. The bartender was outstanding! I feel bad I'm blanking on his name, but he was very knowledgable and seemed genuinely excited to chat with us about the different spirits they offer. I tried a craft cocktail called Sweet (But Not Too Sweet) that had gin, raspberry and ginger beer. My wife tried some whiskey on the rocks that our bartender recommended. Both were stellar! The bar was comfortable, with moody lighting, comfy couches and jazzy house music. The bartender told us you can order food from Grand Trunk's kitchen and eat it up there, which I wish we would have known previously (now YOU know!). They spin vinyl on Friday nights and Saturday nights there is live jazz. I'll definitely be back for a cocktail!

Yelp
Excellent service, high quality beverages. The ambience is enchanting - an old library/game room/lounge with a loft space. The lighting excites the senses. The menu contains a few choice cocktails and a substantial array of spirits. The personnel are professional and personable - an excellent example of modern downtown Detroit.

Yelp
Great vibes and very chill and relaxing. The service was good and I ordered a flight (not on the menu I don't think, but they will do it if you ask) of different whiskeys. I didn't care for the ones I ordered but that wasn't their fault, however the glasses were filthy and it was a bit pricey for the portions. Shake Shake is a couple of doors down after to soak up the alcohol but this would be an awesome venue to just sip and listen to music. They do offer food from the restaurant downstairs but the menu's were dirty and that didn't give me confidence in ordering food. The lighting is dim, and it's intimate so it would make a good date spot. I may return, but they have to clean up a bit and pay attention to detail (clean menus & glasses).

Yelp
I have been coming to Detroit a few times a year for the last 3 years and this is my favorite place to chill. The staff is great and the prices are fair.

Yelp
4.5 stars. Quality spot downtown, a dark upstairs bar with a great Old Fashioned and friendly staff. I never order Old Fashioneds but the server spoke with conviction about its quality and I took him at his word. Glad that I did. The side order of mac and cheese was tasty and a good portion for a small side, as was the chili. All of this was for $15 plus tip, wow... Worth a return visit while in the D!

Yelp
I went to the Whisky Parlor with 3 of my friends. Our waiters name was Jack and he was the absolute best! The Whisky Parlour was a little difficult to locate it's tucked away upstairs over Grand Trunk, but it was well worth finding. When we arrived we absolutely fell in love with the Cozy decor. We were greeted promptly and made to feel very welcome. I had found the restaurant online because one of my cousins who is the musician has played there once or twice, it sparked my interest and I was determined to go. We asked if there would be live music that evening and Jack assured us that there would be sultry jazz singer and pianist. So we settled in at a table and started with the questions. Jack was very eager to answer all of our questions. And we had a ton of them since we are not experienced whiskey drinkers. Jack suggested that he would be able to put us together a flight this is the term that my friends and I know from going to wineries so we were very excited to see what Jack would put together for us. Flights can range widely in price so we asked Jack to keep ours in the $25 range. Since one of our friends had not arrived at that time there was only 3 of us and Jack put us together three of the most lovely flights, each costing between $24 and $28. We tried a single malt, an Irish whiskey flight and a bourbon flight. This is a lot of liquor so we asked if we could get some food. The Whisky Parlor shares a kitchen/menu with Grand Trunk so we ordered nibbles and everything was very very tasty. My only complaint is that I asked for ginger ale with a Twist of lemon and I was very specific about not caring for Vernors ( I know very unDetroit of me) but the ginger ale I was presented tasted very suspiciously like Vernors. I decided it was okay that may have had something to do with the 3 shots of whiskey. The experience was interesting, the food was good, music was cool, the decor was cozy and the service was wonderful it was an all around GREAT time we will be back. Thanks Jack! (We spent about $60 each)

Yelp
Great new spot for what was once vacant for sometime after Motor City Wine moved. I think this would be a great spot for a date. You enter through a door next to Grand Truck and head up the stairs. The lighting is very dim and they provide various seating such as along the small bar rail, a table or leather furniture set up as if you were in someone's "parlor". Obviously known for their whisky selection they have other items such as craft cocktails, beer and wine. They also have a few food items on the menu if you are looking to nibble on something over a conversation. The view is great if you sit by the window and inside decor is very classy/hip. The ambiance is very chill inside.

Yelp
Great vibes! Great cocktails. The DJ was awesome. Love the ambiance. So many choices of whisky at various price points. Date spot or come with friends
