On the Grid : White House

"Serving Atlanta since 1948, and stuck in a timeworn retail strip that also includes a Pizza Hut delivery place, the White House is a classic diner, from the black and white tiles to the pink tables and booths, to the blue hair on the senior waitresses. The menu serves a generous assortment of old-school breakfast favorites, including hot cakes and French toast, omelettes, bagels with lox, biscuits, grits, and spectacularly average coffee." - Office of Brothers

This is certainly a hole-in-wall OLD SCHOOL diner, but make it Greek themed. I’m telling you, so old school everything is that purple-ish mauve color with the classic bar and kitchen right behind it and all. But I’m also telling you, these are some of the best pancakes I have. ever. had. I’m one of those people who could eat breakfast food for every meal of the day, so it’s extremely hard for pancakes to impress to stand out. But these were straight up scrumptious. I forced most of my party to try them and saw the reactions each time as they all agreed, they were some “damn good pancakes”. And you can add m&m’s into them, which was a fun addition versus chocolate chips because the m&ms had a little crunch and just wow, my mouth is watering even thinking about it again. We really enjoyed our visit here overall though- our waitress Ella was no spring chicken so she knew was she was doing, and gave us great southern hospitality. Even my gyro omelette was unique and delicious. I do think the restaurant was a bit squished. It’s small, and even not being busy there wasn’t a lot of room to move around once you stood up. We also ended with banana pudding, and that’s never a dessert I’d choose myself but this is about as good as it comes- we saw them bring up a fresh pan of cake from the back to use for the dessert. So yummy.

Google
It’s always about food and service. And they killed it. It’s a small diner with literally the nicest waitress. I asked for coffee with milk. 9 times out of 10, the waitress brings a small container of cream. This young woman brought a half glass of milk. The coffee was hot and moderately strong. Perfect. She recommended the pork sausage over the turkey and I substituted tomatoes for grits. 4 cups of coffee later I finished a 10/10 breakfast under $20. Really, could not have been any better. Thanks! Unexpectedly in Atlanta again. So back for another breakfast. Turns out if you open the menu they have even better breakfast that includes French toast. Again service and food 10/10.

Was very impressed with this ATL gem! A classic breakfast spot with a nostalgic atmosphere. We started with a gravy and biscuit with sausage. I got the White House breakfast which a perfect sampler of everything. I also added cinnamon and powdered sugar to the French toast and it was perfect. Would add this to my ATL itinerary every time!

This was my first visit to this local landmark. Plenty of delicious menu options for breakfast and lunch. I opted for some standard picks but I'll be back for the others. The menu stands out among other diners by offering some things not normally tried by the average small noshery. The friendly and attentive staff are a tremendous incentive to return. Kudos to Judy for her excellent service. A final plus is there early start time of 6:30am. A great way to start your morning!

Google
A fantastic experience as we love checking out diners in the US. We had a warm southern welcome that you hear about. The pancakes and omelettes were great and our server was great.

Saturday was my first time visiting the White House. The atmosphere was very warm and inviting. Our waitress Stacy was phenomenal.

Recently started frequenting this diner, and it is now my new favorite spot! The food is consistent, the service is excellent, the establishment is clean, & the prices are very fair. I love a classic diner! This is an Atlanta/Buckhead gem!

Yelp
Second visit here and this homestyle diner, with fresh traditional dishes hasn't dissapointed! The bacon, Egg, and Cheese croissant with hashbrowns was delicious. ($14.00) My order came out in a timely manner, and the customer service was great! Vibes are casual. This location has free parking right out front.

Yelp
First let me say that Kimberly, our server, was great. Though we took up her table for the better part of 2 hours, she never tried to rush us on. She just kept coming with more coffee. This is a cute little breakfast & lunch diner (it's actually pretty big but you'd never guess from the storefront). When I say cute, I mean homey. It's not the prettiest but it's welcoming. The food is good. Better than good. I had the oatmeal & brown sugar. The sugar comes on the side and the oatmeal is just the right consistency. No lumps. So I asked my friend about his dish, hotcakes & hash browns, and he raved about them. It's the little things but the food is made with care and that works so much better than a great look and feel but flavourless & less than well made. Greatly recommend. Enjoy!

Yelp
If you're on the hunt for a classic home style diner, you've found it. Not only does the White House serves up some of the best classic diner style food, but the service is also on par. My go-to is the Tennessee eggs: buttery eggs scrambled with tons of garlic and parsley with a side of hash browns. While the food is great and the service is sweet as ever, the prices are definitely reflective of Buckhead A $50 diner breakfast between two people is an occasional treat. In the meantime, I'll be at Waffle House!

Yelp
Homestyle diner feel, right out of the 70s. The service provided by a sweet elderly woman who was clear passionate about her job, warmed my heart. While the food prices reflects Buckhead ($23 OTD for their White House breakfast) Eggs - buttery Bacon - perfectly crispy Coffee - fresh Hashbrowns - crispy 9.2/10 would recommend!

Yelp
Classic (and historic) diner in Buckhead. I sat right at the counter and had service right away. My order came promptly. You will see people who have been up all night sittting with those who have an early morning. Great to have french toast as an option. Lived up to expectations and was delicious. Eggs and country ham were also good. Would like to have had some honey to put on my grits (not available). Breakfast is pricey but matches the cost of everything in the Buckhead area.

Yelp
A good and solid diner type situation. It's nothing flashy or nothing special, but if you want some eggs and hash browns and toast, this is your place. It's a real family-owned kind of vibe, and everybody there is so nice and friendly. I would definitely keep visiting, I think it's a basic situation but it's worth it. You know you have those spots around Atlanta that do all the fancy shrimp and grits and all that kind of stuff, this isn't that. But just solid diner food, this is the way.

Yelp
Just a Killer breakfast (lunch) joint! Greek runs deep in this place-inlet w gyro meat (and taziki sauce on the side for me!). Great grits, Amazing biscuits, great Everything! My Dad is all over the fried grouper. Consistently delicious, good variety of veggies and lunch choices-this place is an Institution in ATL..and rightfully so!

Yelp
If you're looking for a quick, quality traditional diner breakfast - this is your spot. The restaurant ambiance is traditional diner style with some tables, booths along the wall and a bar top facing the open kitchen with swivel stools. I stopped in here for a pre-conference breakfast and had my food less than 10 minutes after sitting down. My waitress at the bar (didn't grab her name) was sweet, attentive and speedy. I ordered the fruit cup and an omelette. The fruit cup was 10/10. Typically I find fruit cups mostly consist of the "cheaper" fruits (cantaloupe, etc), but this one had banana, berries, apple, grapes and more. The omelette was also fantastic - egg whites, vegetables and grilled chicken. Came with two pieces of buttered wheat toast. All in all, highly recommend. Total price for the meal, including coffee, was $23. I'd typically think this was *slightly* steep for a diner price, but a grilled chicken egg white omelette is likely not their frequent order and would be similarly priced at restaurants where it is more likely.

Yelp
It's a bustling Sunday morning here, deceptively busier than it appears from outside it's single door and tiny parking lot that somehow always appears empty. Inside... it smells like breakfast and the conversations of guests 8 to 87 years old (or more) fill the small space. Singles at the counter is a classic diner rule, so that's where I am. I've been here before but it's been about a decade if I'm honest - and things are pretty unchanged, aside from the expected menu pricing increases... which are still few comparatively. This Buckhead staple has been here since 1948, and that's the best part. The server - red haired and nailed and maybe one of the original here? - is kind, efficient, of few words, and decidedly southern. Pretty much everyone here is. It's not shiny, new, trendy, or expensive. It IS delicious, quick, and a Buckhead staple. I had a fruit cup and a Turkey sausage, egg, and cheese biscuit this morning - complete with stretchy melted cheese scrambled into the egg as it should be. Fluffy biscuit with crispy little flaky edges, carbohydrates be damned. Worth it. The owner made his way down the counter refilling coffees and greeting diners - truly charming. Just come here. Really. ATL will very slowly lose these wonderful little spots as we further gentrify even the gentrified neighborhoods - don't miss your chance. Fresh menu photos, since it had been a while since someone posted them! Cheers

Yelp
The service was excellent, the food resembled any other dinner and therefore there is no comment necessary.

Yelp
This is what a diner should be. It's a classic diner with amazing food and awesome service. There is just pure hard work in here. You can eat at your pace and the food comes out QUICK. Nola is an amazing waitress who works very hard. This food is awesome and I would definitely recommend you to check it out.

Yelp
This place was bad unfortunately . My scrambled eggs were sitting in a pool of grease. Biscuit was terrible. Gravy was like water and cornstarch with some pepper thrown in. Gross. Service was great and that's why they get two stars. Would never eat here again.
google avatar

Eric D.

Yelp
This is your standard diner fare. The wait staff is a little on the slow side but it was fine. Coffee sizes were too small for me and wanted more refills than what I got. My food was a little unflavored for me considering I got the chicken and biscuits and gravy and the chicken was just chicken fingers over biscuits. It left a lot to be desired if I'm being honest. I would try a breakfast sandwich on a biscuit next time I go. The scene is a typical diner. But fun to go in with an open kitchen.

Patricia G.

Yelp
Everyone here is very nice but my eggs and pancakes came out cold. When they brought them back they were luke warm. The Ansley Scrambled eggs did not have any real taste to them. Guess we came on an off day. Disappointing

Yelp
Friends, this Buckhead diner is the real deal, a place where the wait staff serve southern hospitality along with great food! When I inquired about lunch at 10:30 am in the morning, my waitress said, "of course, darlin." My little heart melted while my mouth salivated. It had been too long since ordered a cheeseburger with fries! See photo taken right before I cleaned my plate! :) My boyfriend ordered breakfast (his favorite meal!). Even when she mistakenly delivered grits instead of his hash browns, the slip was corrected earnestly and quickly. Kind people are my kind of people! Prices have gone up here over the years ($20 for an omelet), but it is such a pleasure to support this small, family business. The service and food are worth the price! Enjoy!

Yelp
It was college graduation day and our daughter needed it be be "a breakfast place", as she flitted into our lives briefly as part of her laundry list of pre-ceremony tasks. The White House served up exactly that, with her breakfast of dreams. Somebody gets stars for plentiful parking spaces here, if you know where to look. Don't be like those fools trying to squeeze your Expedition into the front slots designed for Fiestas. *Pro tip: park in back for a little extra elbow room. Walk in the back door to what looks like you've landed in the bathroom area. Don't be afraid: there's a door to the restaurant as well. Now the fun part: trying to snag a table for your party of five. Fortune smiled on us this day, in the form of our aforementioned daughter, who somehow arrived earlier than usual and grabbed a 6-spot. It must be that promise of breakfast that pulled her in. Coffee is decent-er than expected at a diner-ish establishment, but drink up those refills since you're paying coffee shop prices for "house drip". Onward to the menu, diverse enough for the picky and the shy. Shockingly my daughter didn't go for a biscuit--must be turning a page with graduation looming--but yes eggs were still involved. She's told me with flair that eggs need yellow in them and egg whites don't cut it. That's probably good here, as I imagine such a "special order" request would be met with an icy stare (example later). But she enjoyed those yellow eggs and other breakfasty stuff (bacon). Meanwhile I made the error of asking for hash browns as a side sub. "No you don't want those, they're extra", my grandmother/waitress informed. Oookay I guess I'll stick with the wheat toast to accompany my garlic/parsley eggs with a spiffy name (not called garlic/parsley eggs--who would do that). Throw in some grits though and I was hardly remembering that thing I wanted to sub extra; what was it? Oh well. One of us ordered biscuits and gravy with the gravy on the side. Believe it or not: the gravy was indeed on the side! And the biscuits were pretty mammoth, so much so she took one home for that time later when the only thing that could satisfy would be a biscuit without any gravy. Meanwhile my wife had this wild idea she'll order something exotic they're out of. Nice. But bonus points and this is one of 10,000 reasons I love her: she managed to finagle (out of the same grandmother) a side of hash browns. For me. The love is growing. Later, when informed they were out of that thing she ordered, she went with the gyro with allegedly "chicken". It was either not chicken or chicken pâté or chicken slices, but it was still good. I'll admit it wasn't your standard chicken wrap. Leave it to the ordering phenom she is to order two things that don't usually mix (how many chickens versus lambs do they have in Greece?). All was well that ends well since I was chomping on those hash browns like my life depended on it. My son got an omelette which was well-enjoyed, etc. Sorry, not meaning to give that omelette short shrift; I'm sure it was a big day for that omelette coming out in the bottom of the ninth. It delivered all the yellow egg it could muster. Most of us spent the meal looking at the baby anyway so you're lucky I remember this much. But what I do remember was good eating, so we enjoyed our time and will return when able.

Yelp
PHENOMENAL service!!! I definitely feel as if I got presidential services lol! Literally the fastest and best service I have ever had from a restaurant! This was my first time trying this place out and I came here on a Sunday, luckily I got in and was able to sit down right away because one of the servers told me that there is typically a line out the door especially on Sundays. But I just ordered the pancakes, hash browns, and bacon, literally within minutes my food was ready! Now I can say that my hash browns definitely needed to be doctored up a little bit, but that was a job that a little salt and pepper could fix! So if you are looking for cheap restaurant with fast and phenomenal service, this is the perfect place for you!

Yelp
Good food, great servers, clean environment, and fair prices! I enjoy eating here! App says I need to leave a longer review so, rub a dub dub, come here to get some grub!

Yelp
First time here. Had a breakfast business meeting here and we both ordered the Gyro omelette. We both agreed that it might be the best omelette we both have ever had. Definitely my new breakfast spot. Not a big fan of the coffee here. Only the 2nd time I've ever ate grits and. They were good too. Service was a little slow at the end but it got pretty packed.

Riley P.

Yelp
I went there today and saw a cook (he had on a grey sweater) coughing over the food and several of his teammates, multiple times. Sometimes he covered his mouth, sometimes he didn't. I also saw him, wearing the same gloves, fist bump his teammates and touch both raw and frozen food. To say it was disgusting is an understatement. I will not be patronizing this restaurant again and I will be filing a complaint with the County Health Office.

Mindyour B.

Yelp
Don't pay with cash in this place because the managers son will take it and try to pocket it. Then try and argue with guest that you didn't give it to him.
google avatar

Cliff S.

Yelp
I've been eating at this place for decades, even after ownership changed. Classic Southern style breakfast. You'll never know who you will see in the restaurant. Me and my wife were just talking about it because she didn't know about it. We'll have to go in there soon.
google avatar

Yelp
Holy southern hospitality. I walked in a complete stranger, and I left The White House Diner feeing like I had been a regular for 20 years. Without a doubt, this place is the real deal. It's been around since 1948, and has been run by a wonderful gentleman named Dimos since the 60's. He is such a nice man! He took the time to introduce himself and tell us his story. From the moment you walk in you feel like you're at home. You pick your seats and are greeted by a server fairly quickly. Everyone here is so friendly. It's an energetic upbeat, atmosphere. I had the Olympic omelette with hashbrowns and a croissant. The omelette included spinach, tomatoes, peppers, onions, mushrooms, feta, and tzaziki. Everything was fantastic! The hashbrowns were very notable. Not too oily, but a perfect crisp. The coffee here is solid, as well! I'm so excited to come back here someday. I hope you all get the chance to try The White House Diner!
google avatar

Randel H.

Yelp
The friendliest staff ever! Made the experience really amazing. Food was for sure good. The banana pudding was AWESOME and Im picky with my BP! Kimberly was our waitress and I'm a fan. We will be back!

Yelp
Good Diner food and service. Seemed overpriced, even for Buckhead.
google avatar

Christopher C.

Yelp
Food was hot and fast. Service was great too. Biscuits and gravy are great. Blueberry pancakes for my daughter.

Wisdom S.

Yelp
It was OK. Nothing to write home about. It did quench my taste buds for pancakes. One of the three hot cakes were perfect with a bit of a crusted edge like I like it. I don't do fast food, so I figure to give this place a try. I will never order eggs a la carte. I will give them another try and go back. This was my visit and is really only deserving of 2 stars, but I am giving them three because it was 6:30am on a Tuesday morning. Next time I hope to give them 5 stars.
google avatar

Sharon T.

Yelp
My boyfriend loves this place. It's not a flashy "Buckhead" restaurant but the neighborhood people love it. You may also see various local politicians patronizing also. Mask are not required for employees or customers and it's super diverse. The owners are present and welcoming to all. I'm not much of a breakfast person, but when go here, bacon is a must! They will put together whatever you request. Sometimes has a wait but all good is coked to order here. I prefer here over Corner Cafe any day.

Steven G.

Yelp
Not awesome. Bagel tasted like it came out of a bag - not good. Neither the grits I ordered or the English muffin my son ordered. Won't be back

Gene R.

Yelp
This is not a chain restaurant. I seek out local spots. It met my first criteria. Now: food, atmosphere and price. Good basic food, no standout items. "Buttery Taste Spread" instead of butter? Eggs-good, pancakes-dry. Sausage Pattie's-forgettable. Service was Georgia friendly-outstanding. Price - high. Maybe I'll bring food next trip ...
google avatar

Rachel W.

Yelp
Friendly staff & delicious food - definitely recommend if you love breakfast and brunch! This is a mom and pop shop that makes yummy comfort food.

Yelp
Well, you'll never be able to say that The White House restaurant wont feed you. Many of their dishes are so huge that you just wont finish. I smile at some reviews that mention that the White House was known as a diner where business deals were done, because of all people, we saw friggin' Clark Howard in the back of the restaurant who was sitting with a couple of delegates (they all shook everyone's hands when they were outed)! No way!! Feeling good about our breakfast choice already, we put in a few orders, including: Egg and cheese biscuit ($4.95) The Presidential breakfast ($18.50) The presidential, if and when you order it, comes with enough plates to fill up half your table. It's that serious. So what did I get with mine? French toast (you can get two pancakes) 8 oz ribeye steak cooked to order two eggs cooked your way Hash browns (subbed over grits) The french toast came with three slices of thick cut bread. The vanilla was serious and it's all you could smell. Definitely a great toast here. The 8 oz ribeye was a surprise! I asked for medium, and it surprisingly came medium. Very tender, thin slice of meat but well seasoned and a joy to eat. The eggs came scrambled, and these were nothing special. Finally the hash browns were shredded and nicely crispy. I loved these things and definitely I am a sucker for good hash browns! Staff was awesome, the interior was quaint, there is exterior seating if you prefer to be outside. Parking here is shared in this small strip, and while parking wasn't a problem for us up front, it looks like you might find yourself parking at the rear for more spaces more often than not. My first visit to White House was a hit. I'd happily come back and bang out another breakfast. Check these guys out if you're in the area!

Yelp
I would give this place 10000 stars! It's definitely one of my FAVORITE places to go to for breakfast wow! I normally get the chicken and dumplings (wow amazing) but they weren't ready yet as it was only 10 am by the time we arrived. Got the omelette and hashbrowns and they were just as good, but will be back for the dumplings ASAP

Yelp
I've seen the White House for years while driving up and down Peachtree Rd/St. it was always made known to me as the diner power plays are made and business deals are done. I was pretty excited when I finally got the chance to try the lunch here. And thank the lord it was a Tuesday because I got to enjoy their fried chicken special! The lady helping us was a little abrasive at first but ended up being super sweet - offered us complimentary banana pudding for dessert at the end (it wasn't clear whether it would be complimentary until we got the check). We each ordered the fried chicken. And let me say, that dark meat was pretty tasty. It also came with two sides, so I got the rice and gravy and the mashed potatoes. It came with quite a bit of gravy. But it was perfect for the pieces of chicken that were slightly drier. It was enough food thanks to all the starches I got with my meal, but I'm sure just one piece of chicken is usually not enough for most people. Not the best fried chicken or banana pudding I'd ever had but it's a classic place to grab a bite to eat and make that business proposition come to fruition!

Yelp
Great food and great service. The owners are Greek and they're hospitable and take time to greet us and getting to know us

Daryl E.

Yelp
A neighborhood icon, tradition, meeting place and flat out wonderful part of our community. A diner in all the classic ways. A see-and-be-seen business/networking place at weekday breakfasts and place for families on the weekends (many people that came as children now bring their children). I've been going there for 30 years. Many of the owner's staff/family have been there the whole time. Check it out and get to know your neighbors.

Silas O.

Yelp
I really enjoyed having breakfast here! Although a little pricey for it was, this old school diner offers terrific no frills breakfast favorites. Located near the heart of the city, there's something for everyone. The decor will take you back in time and so will the down to earth service. Parking is limited but available on site.
google avatar

Yelp
This place is pretty awesome. Just good quality "home cooked" breakfast. We ordered Biscuits & Gravy, Two Egg & Links Breakfast Meal, and French Toast. All were good - recommend to anyone to try.

Yelp
Yum! Classic diner. My son had more than enough to fill his bottomless pit of a stomach..

Yelp
The White House was a very good diner-style restaurant. The food was good and filling and the the service was great. My Mom had a doctor's appointment nearby and we were both starving, so the roast beef and mashed potatoes hit the spot.

Yelp
This place is an old dive restaurant that serves a good breakfast. Nothing fancy, but overall a decent place.

Yelp
The White House is an establishment that has been in Atlanta for a very long time! And although I've lived here for almost 30 years, I've never been there! I think it's only right living here that you go at least one time, out of respect! I've read that people go here weekly, if not daily, I'll never be one of those people, but I do appreciate the nostalgia of the restaurant! Eating there was like eating at my great grandmother's house. The parking isn't great at all! The restaurant is in a very small strip mall on Peachtree street. I lucked up on spot right in front of the restaurant, but that's because it was a week day and after 10. There are plenty of shops with parking around though, you just have to find your spot and walk over if their parking lot is full. I ordered the White House breakfast. It came with a choice of meat, eggs, grits and French toast or pancakes. I choose the French toast. The grits are definitely not buttery, creamy, white cheddar grits like I like, but are almost exactly how my great grandmother used to fix them. Plain and straight to the point! LOL The bacon was salty but cooked perfectly. The French toast was thinking, with a large portion, but no cinnamon and vanilla, like I like, but it wasn't bad either. They cooked my eggs nice and soft just like I like them! The price pretty much fits all of the food that you. My meal was 17 bucks and I had way too much food! My server Kimberly was excellent! She made sure my order was exactly right, checked on me just enough and always came around at the right time. She was very personable and had a great attitude! Although I don't have to return to the White House because it's really not my thing, if my Grandfather was still alive, I'd take him, he'd enjoy it! So if you live in or near the city, I say you have to go at least once, just for the experience!

Hunter A.

Yelp
Atlanta staple. Power breakfast business spot. Gyro omelette is my fav. A lot of personality from the staff which makes it fun
google avatar

Jake H.

Yelp
Great service and nostalgia. Went during lunch and had a very attentive waitress named Maria serve us. The owners, Damos and his wife, Ava came and spoke to us asking our names and sharing little anecdotes about their life. A great time all around! Get the meat loaf!!

Anonymous R.

Yelp
I am addicted. First time here and I don't have the vocabulary to describe the pure excellence of this establishment. Great service, great ambiance, GREAT food. I often wonder about how my early years would've gone if I had found this place sooner. This spot is the embodiment of enjoyment. They couldn't have named it any better - the White House... this place is absolutely presidential. Can't wait to come back!
google avatar

Antonio L.

Yelp
There was great food here & to my surprise there was more room then expected. Looks can be deceiving from the outside. The service was awesome, & I really enjoyed how the older generation of servers where working hand & hand with today's generation . . . awesome. If you are in the area remember to hit the white house.

Yelp
Good food. An Atlanta must try! Rolled Cabbage and Chicken Pot Pie are taste. Locals eat hear and the place has been there 30+ years

Yelp
Pretty good spot for breakfast. The portions were large and the service was good. I ordered the pancake breakfast and my husband ordered the French toast they were both really good. My only complaint was my bacon being cold.

Yelp
This little buckhead jewel has been sitting here since 1948. And I know why it gives you that home town diner feel.. most of the wait staff are owners or have been around since the place opened which adds to to that elements touch. The biscuits are homemade and the food is delicious! Omelets age my favorite and the bone in ham give you that southern flare!
