White Oak – Cookham - a MICHELIN Guide Restaurant

"The warm, friendly service is part of the reason for this whitewashed village pub’s loyal local following, but so too is the modern British food, with its bold flavour combinations and neat, unfussy style. Sit in the relaxed bar or more formal restaurant – and be sure to save room for dessert." - Michelin Inspector

A lovely celebration lunch for 2 birthdays. I was looking for somewhere to bring my birthday pals for lunch and combine it with a walk. A nice circular walk on Cookham moors led us to the door of The White Oak. The interior is bright, spacious and they patio doors were open, with seating inside and out. We enjoyed a fantastic selection of starters, followed by delicious mains. I'd mentioned when booking that we were celebrating a 65th birthday and they sweetly acknowledged that with some cake and a candle. Very enjoyable lunch and will happily return 😊

Great drinks. Jess makes a wonderful old-fashioned. For a more UK experience go with a scotch version of the cocktail. A beautiful spot to relax and have a cocktail or a bite to eat.

I very rarely give five star reviews, but I am very happy to award The White Oak at Cookham five stars. First the meals were so good. The scallops were possibly the best I have ever had (and I’ve had a lot) lightly cooked to perfection and flavoured sufficiently so you don’t lose the natural delicate taste of the scallop. We both had fish as a main course and again this was very good. The Cabernet wine was expensive but good quality and the bread was varied and tasted home made. The staff were pleasant, helpful and attentive without being smothering. Negatives? The wine was very expensive at £18 a glass, as was the water and the bread, but this was not a sufficiently large negative to prevent me from happily giving an excellent review.

Had a lovely Christmas meal here. The team were very warm, welcoming and very attentive. Especially as I booked on Xmas day and they went out their way to fit me in. The food was delicious! Loved the attention to detail with textures with the bread to start and great butter to accompany. The roast turkey was very generous and tasty. Thank you team. A memorable experience.

First things first, the staff were great, really friendly, welcoming, efficient and thoughtful. The food was great too, delicious, freshly-prepared, nice mix for vegetarians and pescetarians. The only issue with the pub is more to do with the customers than the pub itself, though more care could be taken by placing guests away from noisy tables. There are quite a few parents in this pub, bringing very young children and babies to an unsuitable environment. It's a pity spending £80 - £100 pp on a meal set to the soundtrack of games on phones and tablets, screaming, arguing, wailing and shrieking while mummy and daddy sip their wine oblivious. That being said, the staff were brilliant when we quietly asked to move tables, instantly sympathising and helping us to find a quieter spot. Our friend has just come through a difficult illness and we just wanted to talk over a nice meal rather than sit next to a bit of a racket. Thank you very much to the team for understanding and being so sweet.

Food was very good and I would definitely recommend this place for a Sunday roast. The desserts we tried were also exceptional. Cocktails - not so good. Tasted too watery. Biggest issue was the waiting staff. Completely oblivious to customers, would all hang out around the bar so quite difficult to flag one down. Also, out waitress, bless her, very polite. Completely clueless. Better training needed and they will surely be equally exceptional.

The food was delicious. Just… it’s a little bit tricky. They served us with dinner menu price were different which we didn’t expected. Coz. before Christmas we emailed them asking for boxing day’s menu it was a lunch set 2/3 courses one.

Went in for a working lunch, the staff were so attentive and accommodating. There was so many great choices on the menu, it was hard to pick. All of us ordered different things and it all looked so good but tasted even better. Very pleased with our first visit and will definitely be back to try more options.

Yelp
Modernized pub with superb service and food at a reasonable price. I had venison pie topped with buttons of mashed potatoes, served with roasted carrots smothered in butter. Desert was a trio of brioche donuts sprinkled with sugar and served with salted caramel and a yummy custard. Add a couple pints and Bob's your uncle.

Yelp
This place is lovely. We come here for special family lunches. Apparently it's owned by Terry Wogan's daughter. Well I don't know if that's good or bad, however each time I have been here there has been famous people here. Last time was England rugby supremo Clive Woodward with his family, then this time was a guy a recognised as a baddie in a lot of prime suspect type tv movies. I guess you get a lot of that in Cookham though. Nice, but meal for 5 always costs over £120, however at this place I think it's worth it.

Yelp
Visited here over the weekend of the Queen's 60th Jubille back in June 2012. I came here with my cousins and their spouses and we were seated quickly. Excellent food -- my cousins ordered hamburgers and I ordered the 8 oz steak. Everything turned out very well and we were all very pleased. All of this was made better by the fact that the town had basically shut down to have a massive street fair for the Queen's coronation. Very energetic yet relaxing. Would definitely visit again.
