White Oak – Cookham - a MICHELIN Guide Restaurant

"The warm, friendly service is part of the reason for this whitewashed village pub’s loyal local following, but so too is the modern British food, with its bold flavour combinations and neat, unfussy style. Sit in the relaxed bar or more formal restaurant – and be sure to save room for dessert." - Michelin Inspector

A lovely celebration lunch for 2 birthdays. I was looking for somewhere to bring my birthday pals for lunch and combine it with a walk. A nice circular walk on Cookham moors led us to the door of The White Oak. The interior is bright, spacious and they patio doors were open, with seating inside and out. We enjoyed a fantastic selection of starters, followed by delicious mains. I'd mentioned when booking that we were celebrating a 65th birthday and they sweetly acknowledged that with some cake and a candle. Very enjoyable lunch and will happily return 😊

Having been midweek previously and loving our experience we thought we should try out the Sunday roast. Wow, did this live up to expectation? Yes, it did. This is without doubt our new favourite roast lunch spot. Everything was cooked to perfection and just how we love it… And the bottom sides were an added bonus! The service was great, and we were met with a friendly smile and welcoming atmosphere. We will definitely be returning to our new favourite spot. 10/10.

Visited yesterday for a traditional roast with the family. I had the Roast Suffolk Chicken, alongside traditional trimmings others had the beef and pork. Every element is executed with finesse: from the perfectly crisp potatoes to the expertly seasoned seasonal vegetables, and a rich, savory gravy, complemented by a generous pig in a blanket. It’s a genuine celebration of the British tradition, executed with modern finesse. And its bottomless trimmings....make sure you have a big appetite. They also have some amazing deserts. Plus the staff were amazing, will definately heading back soon!

An incredible Cookham gem! The staff are always very friendly and attentive. My first time having a roast here, and I'm blown away. Everything was cooked to perfection, the best cauliflower cheese I've ever had. Dog and family friendly.

Great drinks. Jess makes a wonderful old-fashioned. For a more UK experience go with a scotch version of the cocktail. A beautiful spot to relax and have a cocktail or a bite to eat.

The White Oak is our favourite restaurant in Cookham and we have never been disappointed in the food or service. Most recently we were there on Christmas Day. We very much enjoyed the whole meal, the portions were generous and good, the atmosphere in the house was festive, the staff were welcoming, courteous and efficient. The star of our meal was the Scottish sea trout with crab which I think would not be amiss in a Michelin starred restaurant. The crab was outstanding. I hope to see it on the regular menu in the future.

We had a wonderful meal for my aunts birthday. The service was exceptional, the food delicious and my allergy requirements were catered for perfectly with detail and care. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Modernized pub with superb service and food at a reasonable price. I had venison pie topped with buttons of mashed potatoes, served with roasted carrots smothered in butter. Desert was a trio of brioche donuts sprinkled with sugar and served with salted caramel and a yummy custard. Add a couple pints and Bob's your uncle.

Yelp
This place is lovely. We come here for special family lunches. Apparently it's owned by Terry Wogan's daughter. Well I don't know if that's good or bad, however each time I have been here there has been famous people here. Last time was England rugby supremo Clive Woodward with his family, then this time was a guy a recognised as a baddie in a lot of prime suspect type tv movies. I guess you get a lot of that in Cookham though. Nice, but meal for 5 always costs over £120, however at this place I think it's worth it.

Yelp
Visited here over the weekend of the Queen's 60th Jubille back in June 2012. I came here with my cousins and their spouses and we were seated quickly. Excellent food -- my cousins ordered hamburgers and I ordered the 8 oz steak. Everything turned out very well and we were all very pleased. All of this was made better by the fact that the town had basically shut down to have a massive street fair for the Queen's coronation. Very energetic yet relaxing. Would definitely visit again.
