The White Swan Hotel, Stratford

Arrived at the hotel mid morning and were able to store luggage before checking in. Paid for an early check in (1pm £20) and we booked a cosy double room. The room was ready for 1pm and we were upgraded to a classic double room which was a pleasant surprise. ||The room was on the first floor at the rear of the hotel. It was a good size with Molton Brown toiletries, iron and ironing board, kettle and coffee machine. Mini fridge including milk, water and juice (at no extra charge). There was a long mirror, tv and plenty of storage space. The bed was comfortable and the room was quiet. ||The hotels bar and restaurant is very olde worlde - quintessentially English - with wooden beams, stone floors and an old fashioned charm.||Breakfast included cooked items off a menu and also a choice of cereals, toast, pastries, fruit and fresh juices to help yourself. ||The hotel is in a fantastic location with easy access to plenty of shops, cafes, bars and restaurants. ||I have to give a big shout out to Phoebe on reception. She was pleasant, helpful, friendly, personable, always had a smile and a ‘hello’ - a real credit to the hotel. The other members of staff were also friendly. ||Would highly recommend this hotel to others.

My partner and I stayed here for our anniversary and we had the most fantastic time! The room was absolutely gorgeous and really well decorated. We loved the medieval features paired with modern amenities. It was also really quiet so we slept really well. Loved the Molton Brown products in the bathroom. I can’t speak highly enough about the staff. From the moment we arrived, they were extremely welcoming and seemed like they were actually happy we were staying there, which isn’t at all common in the hospitality field, unfortunately. They couldn’t do enough to make our stay magical and all of them were not just very competent but really seemed to care about us having the best possible experience there. The breakfast was terrific. Literally every members of staff we dealt with was absolutely lovely and we would return here just for the service we received from them. They even give you a 20% off discount for future stays, so we were hoping to visit again over the Valentine’s weekend but it seems that we can’t use it towards that weekend, which is such a shame because we were planning to book one of their character rooms for two nights then but now it looks like we’ll probably have to go somewhere else as it’s slightly out of our budget. Still, I would recommend this to anyone seeking to stay here — you will not be disappointed!

staff were excellent, especially reception and housekeeping. Morning breakfast serving staff were not so enthusiastic, but, there again, that's ok; I understand. Single room was decorated in a weird retro style, bathroom black tiles behind the shower, black tiles on the floor but 3 white walls. It's a style thing, but it wasn't my favorite at all. Layout of the room with a cramped desk in front of the bed was not optimal, but, at the end of the day, no one is there for long. No option to open the window, which is something I really, really like, just to get some fresh air once a decade - but the temperature control was good, including fan option which worked perfectly. Fan in the bathroom didn't seem to make any noise at all despite being checked. Food was excellent, and staff were mindful to say hello even in corridors. Nice handwritten welcome card on arrival; a nice touch. Overall, a nice stay but, staff aside, not the best, room wise, for the price point. However its location is excellent, being a Stratford town centre hotel and wonderful staff really make a stay.

The rooms are lovely well laid out very clean the white swan is right in the center of Lemington The service was a bit disappointing on booking I notified my partner is gluten free they assured me they could cater for this. But they couldn't no food was gluten free apart from soup and nothing for breakfast. On steak night by 7pm they had ran out of steaks and it really wasn't busy in there at all

I stayed in this hotel during November with my husband for two nights. We booked a cosy room and was pleasantly surprised, we've stayed in much smaller rooms. There were tea and coffee making facilities, a mini fridge with complimentary milk, water and fruit drinks. A lovely touch was the card and brownies left in the room to welcome us to the hotel. The reception staff were very friendly and professional at all times. Breakfast was delicious, however, serving staff seemed a little stressed and we did have to wait quite some time to be served, my cup of tea had gone cold by the time breakfast arrived. The hotel has an olde worlde charm about it dating back to 1450. Conveniently situated in the centre of Stratford upon Avon, we were within walking distance of all the sights. We were able to leave our luggage both before we'd checked in, and once again, after we'd checked out. I wouldn't hesitate in staying here again.

Stayed for 1 night as we were going to the theatre. Are in the restaurant, we could not fault the food we had. Gluten free fish and chips was just perfect, piping hot, would definitely recommend that meal. Breakfast was also very good in the morning.

We were a party of 4 for the New Years Eve dinner dance. From making the booking to vacating the following day, everything was fabulous. All of the staff have excellent customer service skills and genuine smiles. The meal was top notch and the band brilliant. Our rooms were super and beds comfy. Loved the Molton Brown toiletries. Breakfast choices excellent & again, super service from all the staff. The whole experience at the White Swan was superb. You were treated like a good friend not just a customer. Definitely looking at booking again for next NYE. Thank you ☺️

Comfortable cozy hotel with incredible food! The staff greeted us with cheerful smiles. Our beds were comfortable and the being and decor clean and tasteful. They really have kept the traditional style without seeming antiquated. The food is definitely something to write home about! I had the filter and it was perfectly cooked and melt in your mouth delicious. Breakfast was what you'd expect with the full English and a great Continental buffet bar. It's right in the thick of things, close to shops, restaurants and just a few minutes walk to the RSC! Would book again if I'm in Stratford Upon Avon!

I had an amazing experience at the White Swan Hotel. I was with a big school group and the staff was super helpful with our large numbers. The rooms were clean and nice. It was also a nice touch to put a Shakespeare quote outside of every room. The breakfast in the morning was also delicious! Overall, the location, staff, and hospitality of the White Swan Hotel made this a great place to spend the night.

The White Swan is an olde worlde pub with a quaint, Tudor exterior and a cosy interior. We were impressed by the warm welcome we received on the door. Unfortunately, the rest of our experience was very mixed. My friend ordered a cream tea (on an English menu, that's tea with scones, jam and cream) and received cream that was absolutely rank. It was clearly off and smelled foul. It was replaced when we asked. My friend's mom had a latte, which by all accounts was fine, and I had a black coffee. It was a tad on the expensive side - about £1.70 for a fairly small coffee, although it did taste good. Then when we came to go, some guy shortchanged us by five quid. He very hastily gave us our change in a folder and left before we could say anything, which made us uncomfortable. He did give us the other five quid when we went after him and asked, but we were 50/50 whether it was an honest mistake. Given the nice surroundings and mostly pleasant staff, I guess I'd give it the benefit of the doubt and try it again if I was in the area.

Our first Sunday in the U.K. and The White Swan delivered on a great Lamb roast. Wonderful atmosphere and great history surround this place, a perfect stop in our day exploring the town.

Firstly: at least for most of the hotel you need to be in decent shape as there are multiple stairs to navigate to get to your room. However, if you are physically able to get to at least our room, you will find it a very nice room and well outfitted. Ours was interesting in that the room itself was rather cramped (though workable) but the bathroom was immense (by bathroom standards). We probably did not visit during high season, but the price was quite affordable. We also had dinner at the hotel, which was pricier, but a good meal. We don't know Stratford very well (last time we visited was by canal boat over twenty years ago) but the hotel seemed to be quite in the middle of things. The free Wi-Fi worked well.

Very quaint lil hotel. Excellent location and workers are very friendly. Rooms are nice and comfy. The restaurant is excellent and food is great. Would definitely stay here again!

Beautiful hotel, bar and restaurant is really beautiful, it has an old feel to it. Our bedroom was recently done and the bed was so comfortable.

My wife and I are senior citizens, tourists from America. We stayed here on a Sunday night in early June 2018. We were so impressed with this hotel. We paid 79 British Pounds for a standard room with queen bed. During our week-long vacation in the UK, we stayed in 4 different hotels, and this was by far the least expensive, but in terms of quality, it was among the best of the bunch. The hotel is historic, dating back to the 1500s. The reception area suggests this history with mahagony walls similar to an old corporate board room. Hallways are attractively decorated, and our room was luxurious and beautiful. The bathroom was super modern and upscale. We had air conditioning. When we went downstairs for dinner, upon our return to the room we found a maid had been inside to turn down the sheets and leave some chocolates on the pillows. Nice. Dinner at Fullers, downstairs, was very good, with good food but even more importantly it's a way to experience the historic traditional British-inspired room decor on the main floor. The hotel has popular seating outdoors, too, either along the front sidewalk or along the side walkway. There is one downside: if you need to park your car, you must pay for a private lot or garage a block behind the hotel, which is a hassle and costs 10 to 15 pounds per day. Hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. I recommend this hotel enthusiastically. One of the best hotel values you could imagine.

We were prepared to be underwhelmed. But Britain, you need to look to this chef. He sets the standard. Our first hint that the food was good was when the kids said we should ask for their Mac&Cheese recipe. Both the missus and I ordered the roasted rump of lamb. It was fantastic. Certainly 1 star Michelin quality. The menu didn't even hint that the lamb was cooked three ways! And all three were great. The waiter says the chef is new. We were glad to have him. Keep up the good work and we're sorry we're only here for one night.

The rooms have all recently been renovated and are very nice. It is difficulty in Europe to find a room to sleep 3 as they always want you to buy two rooms. Here we had a sofa bed in the room so we easily fit three ( or likely 4 if necessary) in the room. The restaurant was attached and the room included breakfast.

The hotel is charming, filled with history and very comfortable. Rooms well appointed and the breakfast is great! At the end our our stay one of our luggage items, a travel blanket was somehow left behind. We notified the hotel and asked for help in finding the item. While the first search didn't turn up the item, we emailed the staff again and asked for them to please search specific places in the reception area, room and closet. I'm happy to update this review as the missing item has been found and will be shipped to us.

Lovely ambience and great staff. The rooms are beautiful and comfortable. The staff are mega helpful and polite. The choice of food on the menu is awesome and the free breakfast is really something! Great location. We came from the US and needed rest and we got it!! Definitely will return!

I've stayed in a number of hotels in England and this one is my favorite. Staff was very friendly and helpful, the accommodations were comfortable, and the free breakfast was delicious. What I most appreciated is how the hotel blended the old and the new in a tasteful manner, which I guess is my style of hotel. I feel a little forlorn in an older "charming" building that lacks modern amenities, but I'm also turned off by hotels that are contemporary, plastic, and slick. The White Swan strikes the perfect balance. The Shakespeare quotes on each room and on the wallpaper in the rooms are a super-touch. Again, this could have been done in a tacky way, but it wasn't. Everything felt just right.

Will appeal to the traditional shakespear hunting tourist. Very 'twee' but good food and drink. Well positioned for a quick pint sat outside on a nice day..

Great central location and a real old world charm. Because it is such a historic building the down side is that it does have quite a pokey feel . However, the restaurant is very spacious as is the reception area and the staff are lovely, the bar is a favourite of mine and the selection of regional local bitters is very good as is the wine list and the selection of food. I have't stayed in any of the bedrooms here or used any of the conference facilities so am unable to pass comment on these. However, the rest of the hotel is great and above all the locatio (in spitting distance of central Stratford) is quite unique
