The Whitlock

"Modern farmhouse" might just be the most apt description for Christina and Matt Safarowic's welcoming Katonah operation. It also happens to be one of the more popular spots in town with a buzzy bar to boot. Ingredients from local farms and artisans inform the menu, where you’ll find tender meats, excellent cheeses, breads and terrifically fresh vegetables. Order the everything deviled eggs for a creamy-delicious bite, though the burrata and heirloom tomato panzanella is just as drool-worthy. The lobster BLT is complete with candied bacon bits; try the juicy Berkshire pork chop; or twirl your fork in the spaghetti tossed with shrimp and chilies. Bread pudding with a Bourbon-salted caramel sauce makes that wait worth it, since there are no reservations." - Michelin Inspector

Went with about 11 friends on a Sunday for brunch. Carol, our waitress was the best very accommodating. I had the breakfast burrito, which was absolutely delicious and a cup of tea. Everyone else had the grilled chicken sandwich or burger. Or salad. I was only able to take a few pictures, but I love this bistro.!

Google
this is our favorite restaurant in Katonah but I forgot to take pictures until recently. We have had their brunch a couple of times, all delicious. They rotate the menu often so we always find new things to try. In summer times, they allowed us to sit outside with our dog. Last night we had the special lobster Pappardelle. it was perfectly cooked, fresh, little creamy and generous portion - they gave you the whole lobster tail! We also shared a refreshing salad and some truffle fries. We were very full but we couldn’t resist the NY style cheesecake with blueberry compote. It was the right amount of sweetness. The service was attentive and warm. We love this place!

Google
This place is so nice! The decoration is beautiful. The bartender was so nice and made us amazing espresso martinis. The skewers special was our favorite!!!! Would def recommend this place and will def be back again!

Google
Love the Nantucket vibe. Service was great. Food even greater. Had the brussel sprouts, scallops, mussels, fish tacos, thai vegetables with jasmine rice and spinach and artichoke dip - all appropriately prepared and delicious.

Daney Mendoza

Google
The bacon burger is absolutely delicious! According to the owner, it's the house specialty — and it really lives up to it. Great flavor, generous portion, and a fair price. Definitely 100% recommended. The service was excellent, and the place is comfortable — perfect for chatting and enjoying your meal.

Google
Located in the really cute town of Katonah, our dining experience was superb from start to finish. Real nice menu with several interesting choices. We kicked it off with the seared scallops which were fresh and tasty. My wife had the classic burger, which she claimed was right up there with the best burgers in town. I had the steak frites which was tender and delicious. The fries were smothered in garlic, enhancing the experience. For dessert, we shared the bread pudding which was moist and sweet. Service was friendly. Atmosphere was alive and energetic. Real fun place to enjoy a delicious meal.

Google
Took my young son here for lunch and was delighted with the food and friendly staff. If you are looking for a great burger, go no further! He got a hot chocolate and it was delicious. We will def be back!

Google
Extremely friendly staff, and delicious food! A quaint little restaurant by the Katonah train station, completely full of charm. Highly recommended the lemon ricotta Dutch baby, and the crab cakes. The burrata is also perfect! Don't forget to grab a mimosa for brunch!

Stina P.

Yelp
Great meal here the other night. We shared the calamari and burrata to start. The calamari was perfectly seasoned and lightly fried. I had the Caesar salad with salmon as my main. Again the salmon was perfectly medium rare and seasoned expertly. The salad was massive and very well dressed. I didn't try anyone else's entree but everyone ate every bite: gnocchi, mussels, fish tacos. The cocktails were also excellent. That black hole sun drink was one of the best cocktails I've ever had. We were there until closing as it's such a cozy atmosphere.

Yelp
This place rocks!!! I wrote a review a few years back after I had heard such rave reviews about it. I have no idea why it's getting bad reviews all of a sudden. The food is delicious and the staff is awesome. When ever I am in town I come here!!!! Love the food, ambiance, and the employees are super friendly. Just the other day I happened to be in Katonah to see my friend who recently opened up her photography studio a few doors down and could not resist stopping by for their "amazing" French Onion Soup and Classic Burger. My friend and I shared. YUM!!!! The portions are good and believe me, you won't leave feeling like you didn't get enough to eat. Everyone who was eating there seemed extremely happy with their dishes and I even asked a few people what they were eating so I could order it next time I am in NY. Lol! Already planning my next trip for Spring time so I can sit outside and order the grilled Salmon with roasted Cauliflower, arugula, radicchio, fresh parm and more! And let's not forget a nice chilled glass of Chardonnay! Ha, ha, ha. Cheers:)

Yelp
We were here for brunch for our anniversary it was nice! Food is good, ambience is nice!

Yelp
Their Sunday brunch! Oh my goodness... sumptuous and decadent and innovative. Also, people-watching galore as you watch people get off the train and walk right in for a great meal. Went all out and got the cinnamon rolls, cinnamon bread French toast, the latke Benedict, and lobster BLT. All of it was delicious, especially the cinnamon rolls and French toast (I'm a cinnamon roll fiend!) I'm not even a fan of Hollandaise but their sauce is so buttery and mild, I dipped even the salad that comes with the latkes in it. The lobster BLT is delicious, like you're in a quaint town in Massachusetts, and the fries are so good. The latkes were a little too fried for my taste, but I'm definitely coming back for more cinnamon rolls, French toast, and that lobster BLT. Next time, will try the veggie burger. 5 stars!!!!

Yelp
Lovelyyyy. Very small and cayuteee. We came in party of 3 no reservations wait was about 25 mins. We ended up just getting sits at the bar faster but waitress did come and tell us a table was available. Bartender was very nice and attentive. Food was delicious will definitely be returning! Located on a cute main street too. Probably really nice in summer when you can sit outside.

Yelp
Great! Fantastic, and wonderful! These are the best words to describe the Whitlock. My husband and I live in Manhattan and decided to drive out to the Whitlock for brunch and boy was it worth it. The cocktails were amazing, the food was delicious and the service was on point. We started out with a couple of cocktails and the bartender made them perfectly. From there we ordered our food, I had the veggie burger which was so flavorful! I love the red pepper sauce, so, so good! My husband had the chicken sandwich and he said the chicken was grilled to perfection and he loved the bread that it was served on. There are so many vegetarian options at Whitlock and my husband and I definitely plan to come back and try other menu items that caught our attention. Thanks for a wonderful Saturday brunch Whitlock! Looking forward to returning soon!

John N.

Yelp
We have been coming to the Whitlock for years. We were extremely disappointed with our dinner as they have a new chef that has been there for one year. I could not eat the spaghetti with shrimp. The pasta was extremely overcooked. Absolutely NO flavor. No love. Then I ordered the Korean pork belly. Again, super overcooked and doused in bbq sauce. My wife had the special Halibut and was way oversalted. These mistakes are surely from an amateur sous chef. If they are from the head chef, the kitchen is a disaster. Service accommodated our grievances. Polite and professional.

Yelp
Ate here twice in the past week. First was a weeknight with friends- ambiance was perfect for private conversation. Restaurant was pretty full on a random Tuesday, so that was indicative of how great this place is. Ordered the zucchini fries (delicious!, burger !, and split the toffee pudding. All delicious. Waitstaff beyond friendly, helpful - made the whole experience comfortable Went back for a date on Sunday- didn't even know it was brunch! Was packed but we were still seated quickly. The winner was the special- chicken and waffles. Would recommend for friends, date or family. All around wonderful experiences and the food is delicious.

Yelp
Very friendly staff. We were not rushed. The food was good too. Convenient location and good parking.

Yelp
Great restaurant in town with buzzy atmosphere in an otherwise sleepy part of Westchester. Excellent cocktails and the pork chop is epic.

Yelp
We love The Whitlock. This was only our second visit, both for brunch. We don't get up to that part of Westchester often but this restaurant is a true gem. While the hostess seemed very frazzled this most recent visit, the waitress is wonderful as are the young men who seem to do it all - fill waters, remove plates, offer new silverware (love that!) - with big smiles on their faces. The biscuits and jam were amazing - the perfect biscuit and not overly sweet jam. We shared the lobster BLT (basically a lobster roll with lettuce and tomato underneath the lobster and sprinkled bacon bits on top, served with a side salad (we opted for that instead of fries) as well as the avocado toast. My husband liked the latter more than I did. It was colder than I like and the poached egg was very loose/runny. I prefer the white to be cooked through and this was not. The lemon zest on top was a really nice touch and the tomatoes on top were so sweet - I wish there were more on top! The coffee is also really good! We love the outdoor dining option. We will be back very soon!

Yelp
Fabulous from start to finish. We had burrata to start. Loved the seasonal flavors of the squash. Entrees were the miso tuna salad and chicken sandwich. Both were incredibly delicious! The fries on the side of the sandwich were great too. We closed out with desert that didn't disappoint. Our server was very nice and attentive.

Yelp
Went here for a weekend brunch with girlfriends enjoyed the food. Like the location. Tater tots with caviar yummy !!!

Yelp
Food is always delicious, a few staples on the menu that rarely change and seem to deliver every time, the bartender does a great job with drinks. More of an after train - evening crowd from what I've seen the French onion soup and bone marrow could use a little refinement but is otherwise delicious. It's a smaller cozy place and I would certainly recommend

A.D. M.

Yelp
fries were soggy and oily. couldnt eat them tasted. so sad they couldnt get basic fries right.

Cherie S.

Yelp
Enjoyed lunch at this friendly neighborhood restaurant. Food was very good and so was the service. Relaxing atmosphere and pleasant neighborhood vibe

Michael G.

Yelp
Incredible - best food, service and drinks around - Mark behind the bar is a gem, and Carol is our fave server - go love it!

Caroline S.

Yelp
A very disappointing dinner tonight. I will start by saying the service was fine insofar as the waiter was pleasant. However do not order the vegan curry dish which promises eggplant curry, jasmine rice and sweet potato. It's basically chickpeas in a tomato sauce with jasmine rice. We also ordered the apple crisp for desert to share, there was plenty of crisp and ice cream and very few apples.

Rick V.

Yelp
Had dinner at The Whitlock for the first time recently. Lovely upper scale atmosphere, friendly professional service and excellent food. Exceeded our expectations...Highly recommend!!!

Yelp
My daughter and I are on a road trip to maine and needed somewhere for lunch that wasn't too far off the highway. Trusty yelp came to the rescue. I've never been in this area before but katonah is so cute. Shops/restaurants/bakeries in a picturesque setting. Would highly recommend exploring it. Now to the food! We initially wanted brunch but learned it is only served on Sundays guys, Sundays only. We asked nicely and tried sad eyes to convince them to make some brunch items but nope lol. It was not a problem though because we were beyond impressed with the menu options. Tater tots with caviar and creme Fraiche? OMG the sheer decadence lol and it was cooked perfectly - I still dream about these. And the French onion soup, the best I have ever tried. The bone marrow brings extra umami and richness to the soup. Portions were HUGE and these 2 were apps and we didn't expect them to be about entree size so we of course ordered a sandwich, lol. Got the Cuban and it was good not amazing but we were also pretty darn full by then. If not in the area, make it a point to stop by, check out the village and this restaurant!

Yelp
Lunch was a 40 minute wait for outdoor seating but it was totally worth it. They called when the table was ready. Attentive, friendly service. Ordered their veggie burger on a brioche bun with fries. The burger was tasty and filling and the French fries were frites style, with a hint of salt and reminded me of France. The hot rum and spice infused Country Road drink was a flavorful warm Fall drink. The Whitlock is like a combination of French, Italian and New American. They get the best of them all. Portions are big and the prices are reasonable for what you get. Plentiful free 2 hour street parking and across the Metro North stop. And contactless menu:-)

Yelp
Back here the second time for lunch! I love the town and this place fits right in, so cozy and welcoming. Had Tuna salad for lunch, which was pretty good! The crust on the Tuna was on point!!

John D.

Yelp
Great local place. Reliable good food and service. Nice place to eat when In Katonah...

Yelp
this place was so so good. it was the first time there and there was a wait so i definitely recommend making a reservation but non the less we were seated within 20 minutes. we decided to sit at the bar where the bartender alex was very nice and attentive. he accidentally made a extra drink and gave it to us for free. i got the veggie burger and it was delicious it did fall apart alittle but hit that's what to expect with a veggie burger. my dad got the huevos rancheros and said they were very very good. we also had to try the cinnamon buns which OH MY GOD. if you get one thing from here let it be that. overall very positive experience and great great food.

Yelp
July 2021, we love coming to the restaurant because the food is always so good, along with the great service. One of my friends ordered the Spaghetti Shrimp, Lemon Breadcrumbs, Chili, and Parmesan, and she said it was delicious, and she did ask for the Chili flakes on the side because she does not like spicy food. My other friend ordered the Pork Chop, spicy vinegar pepper relish that she thought was a little too spicy for taste, and in her opinion the meat was a little too dry. She told us it didn't taste as delicious as her last visit. I ordered the Veggie Burger with Fries and thought my meal was delicious. All and all, if your looking for great meal, you must give this restaurant a try.
google avatar

Michael H.

Yelp
Somewhat charming spot with a good location in restaurant Row in downtown Katonah. The tots were unusual and worth trying. I had a BLT lobster roll that was quite good. My wife had the scallops. She thought they were just OK and that she can make better ones herself. I agree with her. 3.5 stars.
google avatar

Rena R.

Yelp
Good food but just be prepared loud atmosphere inside. Great service too. I had the beer battered zucchini fries. Yum! Branzino special was very good.
google avatar

Camille W.

Yelp
One of the best places I've gone to for brunch! I found this place in a Westchester Magazine article for Best Places for Brunch in Westchester and figured I'd give it a shot. I was not disappointed! We had the following items: Appetizers: Korean BBQ Pork Belly (crispy, just like it should be!) Deviled Eggs with Bacon & Chives (sinfully good) Biscuits with Jam French Onion Soup with Bone Marrow Entrees: Steak and Eggs Shrimp and Chorizo Burger (wait... what?!) Everything was amazing. I have NO complaints about this place except that I'm not there right now!!
google avatar

Kimberly L.

Yelp
We truly enjoyed our lunch at The Whitlock. Our group shared two appetizers to start which were delicious. Highly recommend trying the tots! For my main entree I enjoyed the grilled chicken sandwich. The chicken was so flavorful. Looking forward to visiting again and exploring more of their menu.

Yelp
Killer. Great wine selection. Went in hoping to sit at the bar and have a meal, but it was packed. Ended up having a glass of wine and then decided to grab a seat for dinner. Husband ordered the shrimp chorizo burger. I had the wild boar ragu. We had the Brussels sprout app. All of the portions were large to the point that I envisioned leftovers. With that said, there are not enough words to describe how utterly delicious the boar ragu was. All of the food was tasty, but the ragu blew my mind. It took me right back to Italy. There was less than half a cup of leftovers on the ragu... The entire experience from start to finish was unexpected and delightful. The bartender was great and the server who took us at the table was excellent. We went in to grab a quick bite and beer at the bar and ended up spending almost two hours there eating, drinking, and chatting. I highly recommend it. Wish I had a photo!

Riccardo H.

Yelp
Great comfort food, generous portions, we tried the latkes and the steak & eggs, both meals were delicious, also great fries! Very good coffee and dessert options, and Carol is just lovely!
google avatar

Yelp
Whilst driving down a local backroad, a young man shouted out his window "message from Whitlock, Oh you!" At first, I was shocked and a little frightened, but as I calmed myself, I felt enlightened. I had a mission that I needed to complete post haste, and complete it I did! I parked my car in a ditch and immediately ran to The Whitlock eatery in Katonah New York. It was aight.
google avatar

Julia K.

Yelp
I've been to The Whitlock twice now, one with a friend for dinner and once for a meeting having drinks and a snack. The food is good and the service friendly, and of course the location across from the train station is great. I just wished the menu were a little more diverse, as most items are either heavy pub food or salads.
google avatar

Sara T.

Yelp
I have used to come here when it was Willie nicks. I was hesitant to try the newly branded place but regret not coming here sooner! Ambiance was intimate and cozy however a-bit loud during heavy traffic times. Service is attentive and kind. Menu is unique and has something for everyone. Being mostly a veggie focused crowd we did just fine. Caviar topped tots were great. Cauliflower salad was light and tasty. We shared zucchini fries and spinach dip too and those were a nice compliment to our dining experience. Very much worth checking out if in the area!
google avatar

Michael C.

Yelp
Drinks were great and the service was good too. However, I ordered the half roasted chicken and it tasted very awful. Felt like it was undercooked and very little flavor. Definitely not worth $30 for the meal. Unfortunately don't think I will return.
google avatar

Jordan B.

Yelp
Went today, food was bland- everything felt like it was missing something, and most things felt like they were missing a lot of things, none of it was cohesive. Drove over an hour a way for what I felt like was nothing. Someone who I assume was an owner or manager, was yelling at one of the staff right next to our table- there's a time and a place for things like that, and the conversation was upsetting; as someone's parent I would have been livid if someone was cutting down my child like that,(conversation was about his appearance; which I found to be totally fine)-the male staff who was manning the register (the one being yelled at), our waitress and the hostess were the few people who looked like they wanted to be there and were friendly, everyone else looked pissed. We spent over $50 per person not including tip, we were expecting to spend a decent amount because this should have been a higher end restaurant, never again. I hope who ever is on the receiving end of the money we spent, spends more time on their menu and training managers and staff and less time on "ambiance" and facade.

Christina N.

Yelp
Great cocktails and dinner ! Had octopus and white bean/kale dip to start. My husband had the burger and I had the veggie burger. All was delicious and cooked well. Service was great! They moved us inside when I asked due to mosquitos with no problem. Would definitely return.
google avatar

Andriana A.

Yelp
I first heard about The Whitlock when their French Onion Soup was featured on a Westchester Restaurants tv show on a local channel. After seeing they had a Sunday Brunch my family and I decided to try it out. One word about the food...spectacular! We ordered the following: classic burger, huevos rancheros, latkes benedict, grits, and the specialty pancakes (ours had a blueberry compote). All the food was delicious and, appropriately, everyone cleaned their plates. I cannot say any particular dish was the best because they were all equally great! My only note is I wish the servers were more adamant about coffee refills. This is a minor detail and it does not stop me from giving the 5 stars they deserve. I only bring it up because the coffee was so delicious. Once the weather cools down, I look forward to stopping by for some of that famous soup. 'Till next time!

Kelly M.

Yelp
I was here twice in one month and both experiences were odd. The first time I sat at the bar and ordered the pork chop. It was rubber and pretty much inedible. The bartender mostly ignored me as he was too busy flirting with two women who were having a "girls night." After I drank my watered down cocktail and asked for a second round, he had the audacity to tell me to finish the remainder of the drink (which was melted ice) before he got me another. I did what he asked and then it took him another 15 min to get me another drink. He was running back and forth as though he had 40 people to serve and acted like he couldn't be bothered to get me an additional drink. Seriously? It was a Wednesday and there were four people at the bar. Maybe stop talking to the two married blonds and do your job? Ugh. My second experience was yesterday. I came in with an old friend for a long overdue lunch. We both ordered grain bowls. On the menu it states farro with kale, goat cheese, etc etc. What we got was a gigantic bowl of farro with two pieces of kale drowned in maple syrup. No cheese, no nothing. It reminded me of coco pebbles. Literally 60 minutes later the waiter dumped the check on the table. That was the first time I ever felt that I was being "table turned." I think the waiters are asked to time the guests. The waiter was nice enough as he was just doing what was asked of him, and thankfully I didn't have to deal with the pretentious bartender again but.... I'm done with this place. I don't get what all the hype is about. The food is underwhelming and the vibe is condescending.

Mike T.

Yelp
Whitlock wowed us again. Food service ambiance were all superlative. Great crowd also. Plan to bring in food from The Whitlock to augment our Christmas dinner.
google avatar

Matt B.

Yelp
Enjoy this spot with solid burgers. Nice outdoor seating and helpful staff.

Yelp
Went there last night as I continuously heard people raving about this place and recommending it. I would give a four out of five and here's why The service was great they even manage to turn the Yankees game off so that I can watch the NBA finals at the bar which was super kind. The food portions were super satisfying I think more on the large side of portions. And fortunately the tuna tartare was in as great as I expected but everything else we ordered - it was delicious. They had no music throughout the restaurant which I believe they should have but then again the restaurant was packed so you may not have been able to even hear music. Overall a great local spot definitely a 6 to 9 crowd food was good service was great. Check it out if you haven't already
google avatar

Richard L.

Yelp
Ordered a pumpkin ale and wife ordered the Maria Maria cocktail We had bookmarked this place probably because we say it on restaurant hunter For appetizer we order Tots (tater tats) that came with red onion cream fresh and cavier! Ordered the shrimp chorizo burger with side salad which was Spai chicken red onion and Dudu viler With a side order of cheddar cheese grits For dessert because everything was so good and had to try what was on dessert we had the apple crumb that has longford home made icarem ice cream and it was soooo good The service was great as we ate at the bar because it was crowded and now we know why We will definitely be back here as everything about this place rocks Add on Visited this place on a Friday evening for happy hour no happy hour prices but food and drinks were really good Had the artichoke dip, mussels with fries and black bass special and all were very tasty We will be back
google avatar

Lauren G.

Yelp
The food is great - love the caviar tots, a huge surprise and total game changer when it comes to tater tots. Also delicious are the kale salad and mussels. Fish tacos are also decent .. drinks are pricey but VERY good! I'm sure the entrees are delicious, but this is the kind of place my husband and I like to visit to share a bunch of appetizers, especially since there are so many and they're all good.

Susannah R.

Yelp
Delicious and creative dining in a great setting. The staff are incredibly warm and offer great service. Recommend the brussels sprouts app (amazing!) and veggie burger.

Scarlet B.

Yelp
Been wanting to try this place for a while and I'm sad I haven't been coming here sooner! We did brunch and wanted to try a bunch of things. To start we shared the cinnamon rolls (slightly overcooked but good flavor) and tater tots (I was silly to think it was the good sturgeon caviar instead of the stuff you get on sushi but a great appetizer). For entree I had the shrimp and chorizo burger which was out of this world. Huge portion, huge flavor 10/10. My fiancée had the crab benedict and loved it. Big portion of crab for the price. We each had a mimosa flight which had a mimosa, pomegranate, and bellini. I also tried the new "Little Red Corvette" cocktail which tastes like fall in a glass. So good. Can't wait to go back.
google avatar

Joel S.

Yelp
Cute, warm environment with different, but traditional american chow. THe French Onion Soup had a bone with marrow sitting inside. That was a nice touch and added some different twists to a standard item. Not cheap for soup, but if price is not relevant, go for it. Main course was also excellent. Lively crowd and all in all a place I would return to.
google avatar

Paul L.

Yelp
I have been here a number of times over the years and I have to say their food game is much improved from prior versions of this restaurant space. The French onion soup with bone marrow is excellent; Brussels sprout salad is excellent; and Berkshire pork chop was cooked perfectly, juicy and flavorful. If only the bar wasn't so crowded all the time!
google avatar

Megan A.

Yelp
This place has an excellent brunch. The food is always tasty and the service is good. A friend and I go here about twice a month. The biscuits alone are enough to bring us back. They're to die for. Perfectly baked with butter and fresh jam. For my main dish I usually end up with the market omelette of the day. Last time it was with Swiss chard, mushrooms and green onions. My friend got the shrimp and chorizo burger. We always get the cheesy grits and the crispy potatoes as sides even though it's way too much food but they're great to have for later. Mimosas and Bellinis are poured nicely and you can even get a mimosa fight if you want a taste of a few different ones. Basically this is my go to for a solid brunch where I know the food is good and always consistent. The only downside to the actual place is that if the restaurant is full it can be loud inside. It has one of those industrial type of ceilings that doesn't muffle noise very well so it can get loud at times. Usually during brunch it's not a problem but for a late lunch or at dinnertime it can get overwhelming. Overall it's a great place. Service is good and food is tasty and consistent. Noise is the only downside.

Yelp
Drove an hour just to try this place after following them on Instagram. It is a super cute and intimate place. We called ahead and there was no wait but when we got there they told us it would be 30 minutes. (They don't do reservations for less than 5 people) We decided to wait because we had been wanting to try this restaurant. After 40 minutes we ask again when we will be seated, we were then told it would be another 20 minutes. We wait another 20 minutes and come in only to be told they were still waiting for a table to be cleared even though they had other open tables. After being seated the service was slow, and the waiter rarely came to check in. The wings were great and so was the artichoke dip. However, the shrimp pasta was extremely bland and the pork chop was just eh the chicken was also nothing great. We each ordered something different to try different things on the menu and weren't impressed with any of them (and we are not picky eaters) I had to wait to get a server to bring me a steak knife because I only was given a butter knife to cut through a pork chop... It was pretty expensive ($25-$35) a plate for below average food. Slow service, poor food, but cute atmosphere. Seemed like most people were there just to drink and not so much eat- wouldn't go back.
