The Wick is one of the coolest coffee shops in Seattle! The marriage of their love of motorcycles and coffee is an interesting concept that works so well for them. I was introduced to the Wick when I lived in the Queen Anne neighborhood of Seattle. The coffee shop was less than a block from my house, and when it first opened, I thought that it was such a cool idea that I could not wait to try. The wood and brick interior, coupled with a plethora of motorcycle memorabilia, made their Queen Anne location a great place to get coffee and or beer with friends.
I immediately connected with the staff at The Wick. The owners and employees have the highest level of customer service, and are so fun to talk to, that I ended up getting my morning coffee from them nearly every day. In fact, I became so close with Jackie (one of the owners) that I was able to casually ask her to take a headshot of me in front of one of their walls for an upcoming comedy show. When I moved out of the Seattle area, The Wick was one of the places that I missed the most. I had so many good memories hanging out with friends and the staff that works there. The Wick's Aurora location is bigger, and even better than the Queen Anne location, which is really saying something. With more room to work with, I can only imagine the cool things they will do with it.
The Wick is unique in that it prides itself on being embedded in the community. Pre-COVID, they regularly hosted interesting events, like barbecues, motorcycle club meetups, group rides, and tarot card readings. The goal of any business should be to better the community in which they operate, and this is one of The Wick's specialties.
The coffee here is also superb! With a handcrafted Italian espresso machine, any drink made by the expert baristas is packed with flavor. The list of rotating craft beers on tap here (again, pre-COVID) is also amazing.
The Wick became such a big part of my life, that while taking a digital marketing class at UW Bothell, I asked if I could do my final project on their business. Naturally, I was ecstatic that they agreed. Working with the good people at The Wick resulted in one of my best, and most fun class projects that I have ever worked on. I was truly grateful to be able to work on something that I was passionate about.
What is the moral of the story? If you like great coffee, a fun environment, great customer service, and motorcycles, The Wick is likely to become your favorite coffee shop. What are you waiting for? Give them a try! As one of the coolest small businesses that I know of, they need our help now more than ever. So go out there and give some love to some of the coolest people I've ever met!
