Montreal’s Best LGBTQ Bars and Hangouts | Eater Montreal

"Burlesque is the name of the game at The Wiggle Room, hidden on a part of St-Laurent that’s otherwise short on queer-leaning venues. It’s best to check online before coming as show nights and cover charges can vary quite a bit." - Tim Forster

Entertaining and enjoyable night out in Montreal! Frenchy was a wonderful host, funny, and very interactive with the crowd. The performers were talented and had great stage presence! The staff were extremely friendly and professional, although it felt a little understaffed as it was hard to get your next drink at times. I wonder if a light up system or some way to signal needing another drink would be beneficial! (We’ve seen places where each table has a little tea light cup and you turn the light on when you’re ready for your next drink- it seems to work well and we felt it might work in a place like The Wiggle Room too to signal that you’re ready for your next drink without disrupting the show!). We were extremely impressed with the cocktails, the prices and the very friendly service. The atmosphere was extremely inclusive and respectful, very tastefully executed. We would absolutely attend again!

This place is the absolute best to go see burlesque, drag, and other various performance art. The staff are friendly and the drinks are sooooooo good! I definitely recommend going to see their shows, even if they may be a little pricier (25$+ per ticket). I have performed here a couple of times and always had the best experience!

Currently here as part of my bachelorette trip to Montreal and all the performers are phenomenal! The Wiggle Room has an intimate, cool speakeasy vibe. Recommend for a fun and talent filled night!

Google
Amazing show of talent and fun. The performers clearly love what they do! The ambiance was amazing and the theme of the night was just fantastic! (Old Hollywood) The cocktails left more than a little to be desired though. Out of the 4 cocktails my partner and I tried, only one was barely perceptibly alcoholized. The others were just really weak and not that enjoyable. Overall I had an excellent time and recommend this for a very unique night out experience!

Google
These guys really know how to throw a party. Can't speak to a regular night but NYE was very fun. A really excellent band and the drink service was good overall. Our only disappointment was we would have liked a little more burlesque. All the performances were excellent

Friends and I had the most amazing time at the Divine Divas show. Zyra Lee Vanity did a stellar job as host and kept the crowd hot and rowdy in the best way. The performers were absolutely stunning and talented.

We had the best time at the Wiggle Room!! The dancers were amazing, the bar was well stocked and made delicious drinks (absolutely recommend the apple drink, it tastes like a giant apple pie shot!). Queer friendly and woman owned- two things I love as well! The host was funny and engaging, and each dancer owned the stage with humor and heat! We went for a Lord of the Rings parody night, I had no idea what to expect but it was the perfect mix of nerdy and sexy! Yikes Macaroni absolutely stole the show with their dance as a sexy Gollum dancing with the Ring of Power to Celine Dion!! Great venue for bachelorette/ bachelor parties! Thank you all for a memorable night!

The second I walked into the Wiggle Room, I got good vibes from the place. If you want a laidback spot with a fun atmosphere, this is it. We were greeted by a friendly staff member at the door. Our server was friendly attentive and quick with our orders. They even let you bring food from outside. We went for the Voix de Ville show on Wednesdays, which was great. The performers were all talented and I loved the variety of acts. The only down side was that the drinks are expensive for what you get, although they were good! The drink special of the night was worth the price though. Overall, a great experience. Can't wait to go back for another night!

Yelp
Having to gone to this particular neighborhood with the intention of going to a different establishment, I had to go elsewhere since my original destination happen to be infested with douchebags. I walked past the door leading up the stairs and I could already tell that this was more my style and speed. I walked in toward the end of the performance so I did not have to pay a cover but what I did see was an incredible display of performance art in its erotica and sophistication. It was very easy to find a seat at the bar, where I began to have a conversation with the mixologist, a term that unfortunately has garnered a less than serious connotation but this gentleman was nothing short of an artist practicing his craft of making libations. I stayed past the end of the performance and before I knew it, I was the last patron there as they began to clean up, they genuinely seemed engaged in continuing the conversation. Great place and great people.

Yelp
OMG! Love The Wiggle Room! Found this place by chance when we were at Schwartz's across the street and it turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip to Montreal! It was a great time on a Wednesday and we saw several different performers. One of them called us out and made up an impromptu song about us to celebrate our anniversary! So much fun, wish I had pics and video to post.

Yelp
The show was great. We enjoyed all the performers and the atmosphere of the venue. We recommend the show if you want an interesting and fun night out. There is a big issue however... it took 45 minutes for us to get our 1st drink, despite arriving just after doors opened. Frenchie, the owner, encouraged us to drink, which we really intended to - but with 1 waitress (who was incredibly inefficient) and 1 very slow bartender (who mixed a great beverage) we could only order 1 more drink, which we had to reminder her to get twice! We were at The Wiggle Room for 41/2 hours!!! We each had 2 drinks- terrible service - many opportunities missed to sell more booze!

Yelp
We got there at 7:30pm and the show didn't start until after 9pm. The MC Frenchy was wonderful, the dancers were all wonderful, especially Sugar Vixen! The drinks were kinda weak. They were all very well flavored and adorably named but I'm a lightweight and I felt almost nothing after having two full drinks!

Yelp
This is a must stop for anyone's first or 100th time to Montreal. One of the most authentic and fun places you'll visit in Montreal. The performances are sublime, where it is a celebration of life, bodies and good old seduction. Kudos to the women and men who burlesque on wiggle room's stage. Tips for visiting: happy hour starts at 730. Shows are listed at 9 but generally start at 930. Buy tickets ahead of time to save a few bucks and from disappointment. Show up before 730 if you want to see a snake eat a live mouse... Tell Frenchy and Jeremy I sent you. Meow.

Yelp
So much fun! I came here while on a weekend trip to Montreal from New York and I absolutely loved it. It was my first burlesque show ever and I couldn't have had a better first experience. As a New Yorker, I'm very much used to Drag Shows and any kind of live entertainment in bars where you pretty much shout and cheer until you have no more voice left. Well, this place was exactly the kind of fun entertainment I was used to. The staff is absolutely amazing, the drinks are great and the prices are excellent. I had reserved a table for the night and it was the perfect spot: not too close to the stage and not too far back. Me and my friend could see everything and enjoy every single second of the show. So much fun! I'm not interested in women, so for me it was very much about the artistic/entertainment value of the show. Let me tell you, the girls brought it for sure! Each entertainer gave her best and performed something different with a different vibe. Just wish they would have come around the bar so that patrons could tip them. But I guess it's not a drag show so maybe that's not the way it works in burlesque. Definitely a must visit place if you're looking for a different night out!

Yelp
$10 variety shows on Wednesday nights are the best! Drinks are on the higher end price wise but it's because you're getting actual cocktails made by professionals. Danny D is a great host, even helping hilariously tame my coworkers annoying as *** friend who started heckling him. Staff are all courteous however the service I have received while sitting in the front half has consistently been twice as good as sitting in back. This past week the birthday boy sat for a literal hour before getting a drink despite us trying to catch the waitress' attention on multiple occasions. I regularly suggest their variety show and their themed burlesque nights.

Yelp
We had a great experience at The Wiggle Room. We came for a Led Zeppelin Burlesque show which was interesting to say the least! The performers were very talented and the show was tasteful. If you're looking for something other than sightseeing and hitting up the touristy food joints, this is a great option. Definitely a staple of Montréal. The staff were welcoming and quite funny. The atmosphere had a cozy, speakeasy feel which was nice and the cocktails were great. Apparently they have the 'best cocktails' in the city but I'm not sure I would go so far as to say that. Overall, it was an unique experience that I will not soon forget! Definitely a cool thing to do if you're in the city for a few days.

Yelp
Yay I love this lovely venue and cocktail bar! I was here for an Off-JFL show (if you get a chance to see Steve Patrick Adams, do it! So funny and honest and touching, just exceptional) but now that I know how wonderful this bar is I'll be looking for chances to come back just to hang out. The cocktail menu is one of the best in the city for sure. Drinks are subtle, interesting, made with actually excellent ingredients and top shelf booze and are completely affordable - $10 to $12 range, right where they should be. The room is what a lot of others are trying to be, you can tell is was done by theatre professionals. Lovely dark little corners, red velvet light, and a staircase up to bright lovely bathrooms. My only wish is that is was easier for me to know when their are shows going on, and when it's possible just to come for a quiet drink because if I did I think I'd bring folks here often.

Yelp
Went for burlesque and saw very little of it. If you like an emcee that talks too much and takes over the complete show you might have a better time. This got old real fast. The comedy acts a few laughs except the one from out of town which opened the evening and were good. The two girls who did perform and stripped down for five minutes each were both good also. Just wish there was more.

Yelp
So much fun. Want to do something different and be entertained... This is worth a shot, reservations by call, online, email or Facebook messenger can help the process move faster and save you some money. Entertaining and worth the money.

Yelp
I went to the Wiggle Room for a comedy show. I have to say - do not use your gps to find this place! Location wise -keep your eye out for a pink sign with an animation of woman in a martini glass. Once I found the venue , the decor was very creative. Considering this venue hosts burlesque shows - it has a very Moulin Rouge feel to it. Lighting and seating are comfortable. No bar food ! But there is a Portuguese resto downstairs you can order in from. I highly commend the bartender at this location - he knows his mixology down pact! The dark and stormy is highly recommended! Their old fashion isn't bad either. Overall great experience for a comedy night- keep an eye out for Mariam Khan - awesome comic.

Yelp
I can't really say for sure how we ended up at The Wiggle Room during our long-weekend stay in Le Plateau-Mont-Royal... but I can say I'm sure glad we did! The venue takes on the traditional "speakeasy" atmosphere -- a dimly lit yet cozy space featuring prohibition era furniture and decor. At the bar you'll find high quality liquors, fresh fruits and ingredients, staff wearing white on black with suspenders, etc. What stood out to me most about this place was their cocktail menu and the service from the awesome girl working the bar -- had a unique first name that I'm blanking on now but she was tall with short blonde hair -- she was attentive, friendly and engaging and worked up a real delicious old fashioned for me... one of the best I've ever had. I've never been to a Burlesque show before... stuff like this doesn't really interest me much but the acts were classy and tasteful. Overall it was very entertaining, the hostess was hilarious and the performers were talented. Highly recommend visiting this place for a drink or two at the very least.

Yelp
I want to come back to Montreal for this place alone. Aside from being pretty hard to find (there's no sign with their name on it, only a picture of their icon and their name written in stickers on their mailbox) I have few complaints about this place. The drinks were expensive but it's a club, so that's to be expected. The performers were a delight, with the host, Dan, standing out. He changed underwear at least six times throughout the show, and my friends and I are still trying to figure out when he managed to do that. Everyone was also exceptionally friendly, from the patrons to the staff. I had a fantastic time and can't recommend this fun little spot enough. Also: there are two pokestops within range of the bar.

Yelp
Highlight of this trip to Montreal!!! My first time at the Wiggle Room and I'll be back soon, especially for the boob shots from Frenchy or a chaser at the end of the evening with Jeremy, the sweetest bartender/owner in the city. The performances were inspiring, I'm going to look up burlesque classes back home and I immediately bought a bustier this morning!!! Go to the Wiggle Room and have a blast!

Yelp
Living in NYC. I've been to a billion burlesque shows at home, and was excited to happen up on The Wiggle Room on a recent trip to visit my boyfriend. The Wednesday evening variety show was a blast! Teh cast was stellar and the host was hysterical. Love that there were seats. The drinks are amazing, and so damn reasonable (I'm used to $15+ cocktails in NYC). Will definitely be back on my next visit

Yelp
This has to be my favourite cocktail bar in Montreal. The burlesque, comedy and variety shows are all great, but the real star here is the cocktails. They're expertly mixed, delicious and most are under 10-12 dollars. The ambience is great, too. It has the small intimate feel of a speakeasy, perfect for unwinding with a few friends, especially if you stay after the shows or for a romantic drink out. The service is also great: the wait staff are friendly, knowledgeable and most importantly laid back and unpretentious (unlike many of the other cocktail spots in the city). If you haven't been here yet, go! You won't regret it and odds are it will become your new favourite bar, too.

Yelp
This is a cozy venue with great acts. I love a good variety show, and here they give you a taste of comedy, music and, of course a little burlesque. They have a bit of a speakeasy feel, and the cocktails are great -- be adventurous and ask for a surprise! From the moment you walk in and buy tickets at the ticket booth, to the end of the show, this is a great place to spend an early evening. Come early for a good seat, particularly if your party is large.
google avatar

Yelp
We left during intermission. The drinks were terrible and the entertainment wasn't much better.
google avatar

Sarah M.

Yelp
Classy joint, reminiscent of the speakeasies of earlier years on the Main in our fair city. Good drinks, and entertainment that is different each night, ranging from improv comedy to burlesque. An exciting addition to the Main, and worth checking out! (addendum: check out the schedule to find out when the shows are, they've got a full lineup)

Yelp
YOU MUST COME HERE! My 3 friends and I are in town for vacation and came to the Wiggle Room for a Ladies Of the 80's show and it was so much fun!!! Everyone was SO friendly and funny and we really had the best time. After the show was over everyone had a dance party on stage and we made lots of friends. Definitely recommend coming here!!!! And we will definitely come back the next time we are in Montreal.

Yelp
My friend and I were here to see Burlesque, and not what energy the show brought. The night was slow, we were one of the first ones to arrive but thankfully the drinks were amazing, I particularly like the Whiskey Smash. The drinks are sinfully strong but flavorful. The show started late but the MC brought great energy. She spoke in English the entire time, peppered a few French phrases here and there; but the audience was probably more Americans than Canadians based on the accents I heard that night. The audience is also a bit more older, in the 30s or so probably. The performers were great, they brought so much energy and the personalities were all so vibrant! If you're looking for great burlesque, this is definitely the place to go!

Yelp
SO much fun! The staff is sooooo nice and welcoming! The dancers were amazing they were all so unique. This places has great vibes and the drinks are very yummy.

Yelp
Love this place! Loads of fun! Book in advance for good seating as the place is more long than wide and you won't be able to get a great view from the back. I'm totally seeing the innuendo here. It's not lost on me. They have food sometimes, but allow you to bring your own if they aren't serving. Dress up for more fun!

Yelp
Came here coz one of my friends is a producer of burlesque shows. Great venue & good alcohol at reasonable prices. They have 3 dollar Jäger shots so you can make sure your liver gets the occasional pounding it needs. Another good thing is its just a stone's throw away from the best Smoked meat joint in the city (Nope, not talking about Schwartz) and also Ripples (Awesome homemade ice cream). So after an entertaining evening at wiggle room you can drag your drunk ass to grab a smoked meat sandwich & then top it with some yummy homemade ice cream.

Yelp
I wish I could echo the other reviews, but I was very disappointed and underwhelmed. First of all, this was a Halloween special called Splatterhouse Burlesque. We looked for tickets online, but their website was down so decided to buy tickets at the door. There was no more seating left but there was an option to stand at the same price. We decided to go for it. All well till now. Everyone was super nice, no denying that from the bartenders to the DJ and so on. We grabbed some drinks and stood around. This is when things started to go downhill: 1. They kept letting people in for the standing option even though there was absolutely no room left anywhere. In fact, groups who had reserved seating also only had 50% seating so half the group was standing. 2. Since so many people were standing, and we were way in the back because that is where you are supposed to stand, we couldn't see much of anything. 3. The show started almost an hour later which was a huge disappointment because I expected the show to start at 9-9:15. This is really unprofessional especially since they ask you to come earlier around 7:30-8:30. We had already been at the bar for almost 2 hours before the show started. Had we known, we would have come much later since this was a huge a waste of our time considering we were visiting the city for an extended weekend. 4. Lastly, the show itself was just so blah. The women walked out one by one and simply removed their clothes. I know it was supposed to be sexually exciting but it was just so underwhelming. In fact, the MC asked the crowd why weren't we all more excited after seeing "breasts" but it was just that bad...it was not burlesque like at all. 5. We were so excited to see the show but just couldn't handle how juvenile it was and left during the intermission. I am so happy we were able to sneak out during the intermission. So, I do think this could just be an off night because of the theme, maybe the regular nights are much better. I have seen burlesque before and this was just not even close to it. It just had a very juvenile and animated feel. The chaos and the disorganization just made the experience worse. I would avoid and explore other options! I wanted to write this review because I was that disappointed.

Annie D.

Yelp
Very disappointed. I could have let the extremely late start, the poor sight lines, and the uncomfortable elevated stools go if we'd enjoyed the show itself, but we were so put off by the show we left during the intermission. I'm no authority on burlesque, but the few shows I've seen before have been funny, coy, teasing affairs. This was just stripping to in your face music video inspired dance moves. Maybe some of the other shows are more traditional, in that case a more informative description of the show on the website could have prevented our disappointment. We're certainly not about to give this place another chance. Frenchy was the highlight of the show, but unfortunately she only came on for a few minutes between the acts.

Yelp
Ambiance, booze and dames. If two of those three what you are into then Wiggle Room is the place to be!

Yelp
It was awesome fun night at the show. The burlesque was fun and comedy shows were good. The mixed drink was really awesome!

Yelp
The owner swooped us in from the street ( aka Boul. St-Laurent aka The Main), and thus began a magical evening. Cue gorgeous ladies, marabou boas, circa-19th-century-type magician gentlemen w/ handlebar mustaches, and some delicious cocktails called Corpse Revivers. Mr. Le Manager let us in for free (we had no cash for cover charge), saying only, "Just leave a review" (not specifying positive or negative), which was really nice of him. Recommend the place highly. Très fun, feels like another era.

Yelp
Visited here this past Saturday evening from NH. I believe we were the first customers to arrive. I had read a review of how wonderful the Manhattan cocktail was, so I had a couple of them, Absolutely terrific. There is always a cocktail of the night and tonight's was Apple Pie martini. My SO gave two thumbs up when she got hers. You immediately get transferred back to another era of Speakeasies, burlesque and naughtiness. Cocktails were wonderful, staff was silly and fun and the show was out of this world. Truly something that you don't get to be a part of to often. Can't wait to go back on our next visit to Montreal.

Steve D.

Yelp
In Montreal for work, saw the reviews and took a chance. It was a GREAT evening, friendly patrons & excellent staff. A much better show than I've spent $$$$ on in Las Vegas. The entertainers were VERY talented. This is a must see on my return trips.

Carol L.

Yelp
I have a friend who is a regular there he invited me last year for a show I loved it and he asked me again on the weekend... the place is wonderful, service and staff exceptional, drinks are exquisite, the beauty in all dancers is amazing... the show is just one surprise after another. If there is one place one must visit and enjoy it is this place... The girls work hard, very professional as they take you into another era, another time, with comedy, fun , and just a wonderful night of enjoyment.
