The Winchester Review - Noble Square - Chicago - The Infatuation

"Low-key. That’s how we like to live life. No worries and as little stress as possible. And that’s generally the kind of environment we get at The Winchester, a minimalist-designed spot in Ukrainian Village that’s open for lunch, brunch, and dinner. The inside of the Winchester is decorated like an Urban Outfitters, but one with a friendly environment and solid food instead of sh*tty t-shirts. The obvious similarities come from the wood floors and exposed brick walls, along with a lot of sunlight. But The Winchester isn’t a sprawling corporate eyesore. Instead, it sits on the corner of Winchester Ave. and Augusta Blvd. in a heavy residential area, which helps give it a very comfortable feel. The food is American with a focus on fresh, local produce and meats. That means a lot of vegetables, pretty plating, and some basic items like a burger in case you need it. Weekend brunch is by far the most popular time to eat here, and it’s also our favorite time to go. Everything from the fresh-made oatmeal to a root vegetable hash are good - and don't miss out on their excellent waffles. It’s always crowded, giving it a lively feel (but never to an annoying point). Its great brunch is part of the reason we forget The Winchester is also open for dinner all week - and based on the lack of crowds at that time, it's a safe bet to say other people forget it too. But the same great, low-key atmosphere is there, and it’s a good spot for a casual dinner date or catching up with a few friends. If you live nearby, The Winchester should be in your casual meal rotation. And if you don't, put it on your brunch hit list. Your real responsibilities can wait. Food Rundown Oatmeal This oatmeal is straight delicious. It's amaranth grains, quinoa, chia, cream, brown sugar, and cherries. We could eat this stuff every morning. Avocado Toast Fancy avovado toast with spiced hazelnut, red chili, mint, and the option of a fried egg on top. Solid start to any day. Root Vegetable Hash A hash with smoked trout, golden beets, fennel, pea shoots, and topped with an egg. It's not a massive and heavy hash that will put you out of commission, which is what we like about it. Croque Winchester Not for the faint of heart. Basically a croque madame but on steroids. A waffle sandwich with dry cured ham, sunny-side up egg, maple mustard, and potatoes. There's a lot going on. It's intense, but it's good. Liege Waffle A really simple but great waffle topped with blueberries and cream. Not quite big enough to make an entire meal, but pair it with something else small and you'll be happy. Blistered Shishito Peppers Sprinkled with a little sea salt and sherry aioli. A good started or side dish for dinner. Burrata Served with artichokes and a bit of white anchovy on top, which are actually the most empowering part of the dish. Not a bad thing, just a thing. Werp Farm Lettuches A basic but good salad. Lettuce with smoked vinaigrette, feta, and toasted pumpkin seeds. The pumpkin seeds add a nice touch. Raviolo A giant ravioli with ramp, ricotta, egg yolk, brown butter, and parmesan cheese. Sounds better than it is. Not bad, but the pieces don't quite come together. Try the other pastas instead. Burger Never a bad choice. Rushing Waters Whole Trout If you want a large entree, we suggest this fish. It comes with fennel, capers, brown butter, and parsley, and is particularly delicate and good." - Sam Faye

If you're craving next-level pub food with bold flavors, The Winchester is your spot! From the first bite to the last, every dish was an absolute triumph. Let’s start with the fish and chips—crispy, golden perfection on the outside, tender and flaky on the inside, with a tater sauce so good I wanted to drink it. Then came the fried avocado—something I’d never tried before but now can’t stop thinking about. Creamy, lightly battered, and paired with a **heavenly sauce** that took it to another level. But the real showstopper? The chorizo Scotch eggs. Hands down, the best I’ve ever had—spicy, savory, with a perfectly runny yolk center. Absolute magic. The vibe here is relaxed yet vibrant, with great service to match. Whether you're here for a casual lunch, a hearty dinner, or just drinks with friends, The Winchester delivers. Final Verdict:insanely good food, creative twists on classics, and flavors that keep you coming back. Do not miss this place—I’ll definitely be back! 🍽️🔥

Went to watch a premier league game on a Saturday morning. The service was wonderful! Each booth had its own TV which the bartender so kindly put on the team we were there to watch. Oh and the breakfast was amazing. We will be back for some more Saturday premier league mornings.

Bekah, Chris, and Tim are some of the best faces of The Winchester! Best food hands down, there’s nothing on the menu I wouldn’t order. I recommend dinner and drinks here to all my friends!

Google
Only been here twice so far but god DAMN. Idk who the cook is but they are straight up inhuman. Chorizo scotch eggs were a hit with me and my friends. I’ve also had the cottage pie and was blown away with the flavor. Service also on point and knows when they need to check up on us. Honestly surprised it wasn’t more packed as this place is insanely good if you are looking for bomb ass food.

I went to The Winchester earlier today (5/27) around 5:30-6pm and ordered the spicy sweet wings. I won’t lie, they were not good. The chicken tasted off, and I couldn’t get myself to eat more than 1 & a bite more. The waiter noticed I barely touched them however, and kindly took care of it, apologizing profusely. Unfortunately I didn’t get his name, but he was fairly young with curly hair. Because of the great service I will be coming back.

The new renovations are clean and sleek! Love the new look! The food is even more amazing! We had the Garlic truffle fries and the Chicken on a stick...omg... I'm still thinking about and I can't wait to get back there to try another tasty dish! The drinks were on point, we had Long Island ice teas and Bloody Mary's and they were VERY tasty... had to have a couple! :) The waitress/ bartender and all the staff were so fun and courteous and the atmosphere is so chill and relaxing! The new owner even spent some time with us discussing the new changes! We can't wait to come visit on a Saturday to partake in the drum karaoke! A visit to the Winchester is a MUST you won't be disappointed!

Google
Riley was very kind & attentive. Food was delicious, environment was very chill. The 911 burger is massive & full of flavor. The steak was cooked perfectly, tender, the veggies a delight, & the potatoes really brought it home. The whiskey cake with ice cream was to die for. The fries were good, although the first batch was a bit in the soggy side. The pretzels & beer cheese were great. It was very relaxed considering the hustle & bustle at most food places on a Sunday. Look forward to coming again.

Google
One of and probably the best bar food in San Antonio. Made from scratch food and huge portions! Hands down recommend starting off with their app “ SCHROOMS, sautéed mushrooms, white wine cream sauce, with toasted crostini’s

Yelp
One of our favorite pubs in town! Their food is amazing and we always have a good experience here. We went recently and I got a burger that was incredible. Super juicy and full of flavor. The fries on the side were cooked just right as well! It was a very large portion, so well worth the price. We don't usually order dessert out, but the waiter convinced us to try the whiskey cake and WOW! I think it was better than the other restaurant known for their whiskey cake if you know who I'm talking about! On our latest trip, it took a bit for someone to initially check in on us and get our order, but once we ordered the staff checked in many times. Great spot for a drink and some amazing pub food!

Yelp
Upon further review of credit card charges, it appears this place is making money off of us, not just recouping credit card fees. The first and last time I was there, the credit card fee charged was 5% using American Express. I've read that AMEX charges up to 3.3% plus $0.10 per transaction. So it appears Winchester adds on some percentage of their own. Not cool.

Yelp
Food was amazing, prices were decent. If you get a chance, definitely try the scotch eggs. No longer an Arsenal bar though.

Yelp
I was hungry for fish and chips - English style, so my wife and I went to eat there. It was a little difficult to find because it's tucked in behind a building. Anyway, it was pretty dark when we arrived and not busy at all. Luckily, the bartender/waiter was there. We told him we heard about how good their fish and chips were and wanted to try them. My ordered a Cobb salad, which she declared, was delicious! The fish and chips were as good as advertised. I would not say similar to the English version though. I got a pint of Guinness to wash it down. Overall, the place was ok. It may be a little dark inside but maybe it needed more people in it. Their fish and chips are worth going back though. I'm just saying!

Yelp
The food is pretty decent bar food with an UK influence. The drinks are basic. They're always short handed. They have karaoke and live music however it's up way too loud in that small space. Overall, I go because my boyfriend likes some of the menu items but it's just OK.

Yelp
5 star service here at the Winchester! Our server was so on the ball and quick to check on us, refill waters, etc. She was great and the team here are very friendly and helpful. I had been once before just for trivia and now to dine in, my experience today surpassed that by far. The food also really surprised me as the portions were large, everything came out fresh, and tasted amazing! I highly recommend the chicken schnitzel dish, the gravy it comes with was so good. Being an English pub theme and more sports bar oriented (first impression) I was very happy with the food and will be back to try other menu items.

Yelp
It was a great experience and can see why it's a soccer game watch destination. We would definitely comeback.

Yelp
My wife and I love the British pub decor and a great beer selection. The service is good and, for us anyway, we loved the salmon which had a great flavoring--that we cannot remember.

Yelp
Oh man. I didn't mean to get full on an appetizer. But I ordered the Big A$$ Bacon and a beer. And couldn't think of ordering a meal. So I ordered Chorizo Mexi-Scotch Eggs. Paired up with Guinness. Because that's what you do. Sam is the bartender on Mondays. Say hi.

Yelp
Found myself at The Winchester for the first time this past week! I've always seen on Broadway, but have never gone in. From the outside, it looks like a small place in a corner, but it's actually quite big! I was there playing Trivia with friends. I believe they host trivia every Tuesday! Fun prizes - $60 gift card for 1st place, $40 gift card for 2nd place, $20 gift card for third place. Only catch is you can't use the gift card the night you win it and it expires within 2 weeks of receiving it so it keeps you coming back! The trivia host was great and the service was really good. I just had a couple beers, but a friend ordered the fish n chips and said they were great!! Very cozy pub environment. This place definitely exceeded my expectations. Will return!

Yelp
Came here after seeing an Instagram video only to wait over an hour to learn that my food ticket was lost and then found and nothing made. After going back and forth with a drunk server about who's paying for the appetizer and drinks that my husband and I had, we walked out hungry and frustrated. Don't go here unless you like wasting your time and gas and want to be hungry after an hour of talking to your dinner date. I'll never go back here.

Yelp
A new Week at The Winchester and a brand new margarita on the menu! "The Manager's Margarita" offers a tropical blend of juices , patron and agave finished of with hickory salt and Tahiti. A delicious addition for us margarita fans. It just won in their recent in house margarita contest. Come on in and check it out!

Yelp
Me and the fam went as a surprise birthday party for my mom and we all ordered food that must of us never received plus they lied to us and said a pound of wings was about 10-13 wings when only served 8. We as seated by 6pm by 8:25pm most of us still wasn't presented our meals so we were forced to cancel our orders and leave. Most of my family paid cash but my Aunt paid through card and was charged for her order just to realize the next day she was charged again for $230 ticket that wasn't even close to her total amount even after getting charged for her food and drinks. Not to mention one server one cook and on bartender was the only employees on shift. Definitely need improvement a lot of areas here at this place.

Yelp
The food is mediocre gastro pub fare. The service was good but no one could figure out how to put our favorite football team on one of the many televisions. They have posters up declaring any game on Sunday but someone didn't renew the subscription or teach the staff how to get ANY LIVE game.

Yelp
I've seen this place a ton of times because it is right next door to my favorite book store, Nowhere. I was so excited to finally get to have dinner here for a book club! A friend had also recommended it when I asked for suggestions on English food/pub style places since the book was set in England... Gotta follow the theme! I love the atmosphere here. It's cozy and chill. Dark and a little moody. Only negative is getting orders in was super slow, but they were waiting on more people to show up that we had learned weren't coming, but noone had checked in for a while. The fish and chips were divine! I was waaaayyyy too full and didn't even finish everything! Crispy outside, soft inside. The fries were so crispy and I don't know what seasoning mix they used, but it should go on EVERYTHING! The chorizo scotch eggs are spicy! The egg part is perfectly cooked, but the chorizo has a kick! (At least as far as a bunch of white women are concerned...) You have been warned... Staff was so nice! Friendly and welcoming. I loved our waitresses style. This would be a great place for dinner, a date, a book club, a hang out, anything. Food, drinks... All good! Parking is limited since so many businesses share the lot, but not tooooo bad. Oh, and they do charge $1 for water, just so you're aware/not surprised.

Yelp
Came here from the airport because I needed food and a pint and some good atmosphere and man this place didn't fall short at all. Chad welcomed me so warmly and showed this Jersey Girl that Texas has some great service and hospitality to give. He was attentive and engaging which is exactly what draws people back to a place like this. Officially a tradition to stop here first whenever I come to Texas for work next. Food is insanely good, try the sweet heat wings!!!! To have a bartender ask if you want your beer or shot dressed, chefs kiss. Love this place. Thanks for a great experience. One I'll be writing home about!

Yelp
Walked in heard country music and walked out. Don't get me wrong, I'm a Southern guy, but I don't go to a pub to hear county music. Pubs are about beer, soccer, and provincial conversation. If I'm looking for Americana --there are plenty of places in San Antonio for me to go. This ain't it --Go reds!

Yelp
The steak was ok but the best. There was only two servers and were taking while with our food. The environment is lacking and the restrooms were dirty and hot. No a/c.

Yelp
This place is badass! We came in for the burgers and we stayed for the party. On a Tuesday afternoon it was a great bag of fun. Can't wait to see what this place looks like on any given weekend.

Yelp
The bar is comfortable, chill, and dark. The servers are friendly and are quick to attend to you and the orders come out quickly. I had a Guinness and the Chorizo Mexi-Scotch Eggs and Chicken Wings Pound Hot. The Chorizo Mexi-Scotch Eggs were spicy and tasty without it being overwhelming and the eggs were a perfect soft poach. The wings were plump and had a delicious kick to them. This is bar food done with excellence.

Yelp
This place wasn't too bad. We went out on a date night and stopped in for a bite to eat. We had to wait a little while for server, and the tables were extremely sticky. But overall once we got service, the server was really good and the food was ok. It is nothing special just year every day bar food. The drinks are good, but just like any other bar nothing special. I would love this bar another chance just lower my expectations for the food.

Yelp
My friends and I have been coming to The Winchester since 2017. The Winchester has karaoke on Sunday and (I think) Wednesday. Karaoke starts around nine so we usually get there a few hours early to grab a bite to eat and to get a good spot. On this last visit (9-3-23) three of us got there at 7:30 and sat up at the bar. It was pretty dead and still took 10 minutes for the bartender to acknowledge us and get our drink order. When she came back for drinks we tried to put our food order in but she walked away before we had the chance to order. After another five minutes we were able to place our order. We told her we had a group of 10 in total coming up for karaoke and asked if we could push the two tables by the karaoke stage together. She said yes that's fine and walked away again. I looked at my friend and we both agreed that maybe she was having a bad day. In situations like this I try to be extra patient and kind because I know how stressful it can be dealing with the public. I also know we are not demanding customers so it was a little off putting. Once our group started filtering in we ended up over at the tables. Three people were trying to order a drink but no waitress. After a good 15 minutes my friend went up to the bar and told our waitress there's additional people that would like to order drinks. She said OK I'll be there in a few minutes. 10 minutes later she came over to take the drink orders. At this point it had been over a half hour and all I ordered was the loaded fries. I thought boy it's taking a while to get our food but maybe they are short staffed and decided to be a little more patient. The straw that broke the camels back was the two other folks at our table who were trying to place a food order but she never came back to take it. They ended up leaving to go somewhere else. I probably should've followed suit but decided against it. After an hour and 10 minutes I asked our waitress did they forget about our food because it's been over an hour? She said let me go check and miraculously our food arrived a minute later. Great nothing like food sitting in the back kitchen for the last hour waiting to be brought over. After that 2 more friends showed up just in time for the karaoke show to start. My one girlfriend waited patiently for 30 minutes to order a glass of wine. When the waitress came back I asked for a to-go box and my bill. The bill arrived but no to-go box. At that point I was tired of trying to find her and ask for things that should have been provided and I walked by the bar and grabbed my own box. I really didn't need to look for her because behind me our waitress decided to sing. Normally that's not a problem and encouraged but when you have a table of people that haven't even been waited on for 30 minutes it seems rude to be up on a karaoke stage singing. Our group decided to go somewhere else for karaoke and we all left disappointed with the service or lack of. Winchester has been hit or miss over the years. Sometimes the service is great other times it's downright awful. With so many choices for food, drinks, and karaoke in San Antonio I don't see this place being somewhere we will return to. Which is a shame because it has a lot going for it with ambience, location, and good quality food overall.

Yelp
We truly enjoy this British pub. Order at the bar or await a bartender to catch your order. They have a menu of many British faves, and most nights it's pretty quiet. When all the TVs are going (they call themselves a gastropub, but there are a dozen screens for soccer watching) and sports ball is going, it can be painfully loud. In which case, retire to the back patio, which is lit and covered.

Yelp
Loved it! Stopped by for a late lunch. Minimally staffed but the bartender/waitress was out going, friendly and on top of things. It wasn't super busy but I'd like to go back at dinner time. It has really cool vibes in there. It reminds me of the Irish pubs I'd visit in the Boston area. The buffalo chicken sandwich and garlic fries were delicious. My wife got a fried Brussel sprout salad. Not my jam but she loved it. We'll be back for sure!
google avatar

Lexie R.

Yelp
Came here for lunch with my group of friends. We ordered the mushroom appetizer, Richard very good. I would just like to have some more bread due to the amount of delicious sauce and mushrooms in the plate we each got different burgers. I got the cowboy burger I believe that had the sickest bacon I've ever seen and tasted in my God. It was perfect bacon the sauce and the onions were perfect complements I opted out of the blue cheese just cause it's not for me but that normally comes on this burger I normally get my burgers, rare and medium rare and this came out one well done so that was kind of a bummer for me. I also got the garlic oil fries. I didn't taste any Trevor or however the garlic flavor was there I think the Fraser been better if they were tossed with the cheese versus just sprinkled on top . my friend got the breakfast burger they had a perfectly cooked egg on it. The thing that was offputting was they ordered sweet potato fries and sweet potato fries came out black they tasted sweet like maybe the dark it was the glaze or something but they're just very visually offputting and that's why they really didn't eat them my other friend got the burger that's on top of the menu. I can't remember the name of it I want to say it's a sexy burger they all enjoyed it. The burgers were decent size for the price. Just wish the cook to be customized for each one of our flavor profiles on doneness. I got a Jamison and ginger ale and it was one of the best. James has a ginger ales. I've had had a nice balance of flavors and appreciated the lime that came with it. My friend got the tequila sandia to which they loved completely and they wish they could've stayed in order four more of them. I waitress is nice. However, we waited for a really long time to get our bill and we had to go up in order our drinks multiple times, and then we had to go up and ask for a bill as well, which was kind of downside. Would come back again

Yelp
I had been meaning to try the Winchester for a few years but I was never in that part of town. The other day I ended up right near it and went in for lunch. I was surprised there was hardly anyone there but it was my type of setting. Quiet and a little darker than most of the other places around it. I ordered the fish and chips. The batter is very different from our typical cornmeal type and I really enjoyed it. Fries and coleslaw were really good too. The highlight of the meal was the tarter sauce. It was excellent. Everything seemed reasonably priced with good sized portions. I will definitely be back. Hopefully in the evening so I can grab a pint with my meal. Try this place.

Yelp
The place just had a funky odor to it. A non-fixed hole in the mens restroom wall. We had a drink and left. The drink was excellent.
google avatar

Yelp
Overall service is kind of slow, been here several times. They overcharged my ticket and didn't make a big deal about it and still paid. I know if they would've checked the cameras, they would know I was saying the truth. Always check your tickets and make sure your orders are entered correctly.

Mark F.

Yelp
The food was good but this is a pub. The service was good, there was live music playing on a Thursday evening. Went there because Yelp said there was seafood. They had salmon over rice which was delicious and I had a Patty Melt which was also delicious. This looks like a friendly bar that has been around for a while.

Yelp
EVERYTIME I go here it's awesome. What brings you here Matt? Well, the food. Do I want a juicy burger? Do I want a juicy steak? How about a chicken schnitzel? Lots of unique choices. It's awesome. Great place to watch a game, hang with friends, or a lil date night in a casual spot. Great drinks. Great food. Go check them out when you can. You will love it too.

Yelp
First time visiting and my boyfriend and I really enjoyed it! Very happy with everything we ordered. I can stop thinking about that beer cheese dip! Haha Our waitress Kayla was awesome and so so friendly!!!

Yelp
Food was great! According to my Scottish guest, who was a journalist in the UK for 20 years, was very authentic as well. They lose a star for cleanliness. Maybe that's the British way! lol! I will definitely return once I'm back from where else, the UK!

Yelp
Do Yourself a favor and order the brussel sprouts...add a little Tabasco. Only then will you truly enjoy the obligatory cold draft beer to accompany this savory dish!

Yelp
Had dinner here for the first time even though I'd driven by it many times. Plenty of parking. Walk in to wood paneled walls, velvet booths, and a warm atmosphere. Had the shrimp cocktail, Monday Steak Special (12 oz New York Strip with Jameson butter and chimichurri, broccoli, carrots, and mashed potatoes for $17.99), Guinness, and whiskey cake. Best whiskey cake over had (boozy and hot). Great portions and even better service. Both bartenders were attentive. Will definitely be back to try the lamb burger or bangers and mash.

Yelp
Great inexpensive happy hour drinks. I tired the enchanted vodka for the first time. I was concerned that it would burn on the way down due to the fact it was so inexpensive and I had never heard of it. I was pleasantly surprised how smooth it went down. Our bartender Meg was a doll.

Yelp
I've been wanting to come to the Winchester since burger week. The burger, did not disappoint. The service, however, was a much different story. My one star rating is for the service, and not the food. I felt like that service was so bad it trumped the food. I went last night for Tuesday Trivia night with a group of friends that go regularly. Trivia starts at 7:30pm, I arrived shortly after 7pm and it was still fairly empty. Our waitress had a hard time taking orders from just a few of us at the table. Later on, when more of us arrived, she had an even harder time. Eventually, everything got sorted out and everyone got what they ordered. When it came time to pay...oh boy. If I thought she was buzzed earlier, she was worse later on. She stopped by our table after trivia was over, and a few of us had asked for our checks. Yes, I know that separate checks in a larger party is always a PITA, I get it. But she did one check at a time, and kept going back and forth from the group to the register to ask/verify what was supposed to be on the check. Also, she was only able to handle (hardly) one check at a time because she kept forgetting. It ended up taking over 30 minutes for the whole group to finally pay. One female, that introduced herself as one of the managers, tried to apologize during the whole ordeal. The trivia and the trivia host were great. The next time I go, I'll just have to expect less from the service overall. I had the Cowboy Burger. I normally take a photo of the menu to remember exactly how it was presented on the menu, but I forgot. I tried to look on their website, but their website is now defunct. Anyhow, I remember that the Cowboy Burger had governor's bacon. WTF is governor's bacon? I don't know either, but it was a SUPER THICK cut of bacon. If I were to rate the burger, I'd probably give it four out of five stars. I don't remember all of the beers they had on tap, but I wasn't impressed with the selection. I ended up getting Franziskaner, just because I miss being in Germany. I definitely wasn't paying German beer prices, but I've sadly gotten used to it since moving back :(

Marco R.

Yelp
This place has a great kitchen. They have huge portions, and I like their take on the scotch egg. I also had the bangers and sticks and the beer infused bangers was amazing.

Heather R.

Yelp
The pub has a very cool vibe and beautiful decor to match the theme, but this place needs some TLC. You can tell they're scraping by on what little energy they have left because the place is filthy and seems dependent on the dimly lit atmosphere to mask the cleaning neglect. Sticky floors, foul odors surrounding the bar, and fruit flies by the hundreds off the beer taps. Staff is very friendly and engaging, can't complain about the service.
google avatar

Joe G.

Yelp
I have to say that the establishment itself was really nice ,old-school bar. I was expecting the service and the drinks to be the same but it was not. The food was decent, but overall do not think I would be going again. Did not enjoy the waitresses drinking alcohol and arguing with one another.

Yelp
So I visited the Winchester for lunch the other day with my English friend and there were some hits and also some misses. Firstly, the bartender/server that day was great! I wish I could remember her name because she was so bubbly and outgoing, it really made for a good experience! So the menu itself was all the over the place. My English friend found it comical and confusing at the same time. I suppose it's supposed to be English food with a Mexican twist? A little odd. We asked our server's opinion on an app and she suggested the beer cheese with pretzels and fries, it was decent. The pretzel sticks tasted more of bread than pretzel, the cheese was good! My friend ordered the chicken schnitzel and Myself, the fish and chips. The chicken schnitzel, AMAZING. The fish and chips was a huge fail, especially being one of the only true English dishes. The batter was very dark and crispy, it seemed as if it were fried in oil that needed to be changed out. The fish was over cooked and bland. There was NO salt anywhere on the fish. I switched out the chips for sweet potato fries and those were amazing! I had the Carlsberg on draft, my English friend said it was THE go to beer in London. It was delicious, although it could have been colder, so the keg may need some adjusting. I also ordered an old fashioned up at the bar once our bartender got a little busy with new guests coming in. There is a pretty darn good whiskey/bourbon/scotch selection. I ordered the whistle pig 10 year rye. Good thing I asked how it was going to be made because the bartender was going to completely disrespect the whistle pig by muddling orange and maraschino cherry, adding some pink looking bitters and a pre made made old fashioned mix and no ice. She was wonderful in letting me walk her through the way I enjoyed my old fashioned which is over a large cube with 4 shakes of angustura bitters, luxardo cherries, a splash of simple syrup and simply an orange peel. I'm so particular about them I know lol I used to work at a high end whiskey bar and she did great! My only other issue besides the fish was the amount of gnats flying around the table. I kept swatting the entire time i was there, kind of off putting. However, overall I enjoyed the schnitzel as my friend ate some and swapped me plates and then the service we received was excellent!

Yelp
I remembered when this place was the Lion and Rose. It is now just a shadow of what it once was. I was there with my family. We tolerated a light but off-putting oder of stale mildew and cleaner, somewhat rowdy pool table area, marginal service, and beer shortage (i.e. they were out of our first choices). The food was good, but not memorable.

Yelp
Food was excellent, especially the Cobb salad and hot wings. Great service, okay for older kids, fun atmosphere!

Yelp
I can't comment on the food here but I can comment on the service & the atmosphere. I loved the British decor. There were TVs all over the place so if you wanted to see a tv, you wouldn't have a problem here doing that. If you like to play pool, there's a pool table in the first room you enter through. After having a lackluster dinner at Osaka down the street (I wish we'd have thought to try dinner here instead) my friend Cass & I came here to catch up on our lives after not seeing each other for almost a decade. We just wanted a cozy place to hang out, have a drink & talk. We found the perfect spot. We walked in & Jennifer at the bar greeted us & told us to make ourselves comfortable anywhere. We sat down in an L shaped sofa area w throw pillows near the entrance. Within minutes Jennifer came to us with a huge list of beers (we don't drink beer but for beer drinkers, check this place out!) & a menu. When we told her we were just there to have a drink & catch up she smiled & told us to take our time. She checked back on us. We ended up ordering iced coffee & Baileys. The coffee tasted good. I can't imagine it was anything special but it was fresh so we were happy. Our only complaint was that bc it was freshly made, it didn't have any time to cool down so it just melted the ice & watered down the coffee. Other than that it tasted good mixed w the Baileys. It's just not cold enough yet in SA for hot coffee. If we hadn't requested iced coffee this wouldn't have been an issue. If you decide to order iced coffee, just request a separate glass of ice. Wait for the coffee to cool down & then mix. Jennifer was friendly & very attentive! We were beyond happy with her. 2 Coffees w a shot of Baileys cost about $25 though & in my opinion, that's overpriced. That's not an issue w the service that's just The Winchester marking up coffee & Baileys a ridiculous amount. I could see $7-$8 each but about $12 each? The bar was dead... maybe it's the prices. It's a Wednesday night though. It might be really busy on weekends. I'm not sure. The food might be excellent. I'll post again after we try dinner here. We just won't get coffee w Baileys. Definitely worth mentioning, the restrooms were clean & I always appreciate that. At midnight Metallica started blaring through the speakers. I was already trying to ignore a bad headache so before I was For Whom The Bell Tolled.... we decided that was our cue to leave. (My head was killing me) All in all, this was a good visit & we'll come back to try out dinner. Maybe my next review will be 5 stars.

Yelp
After being repeat customer, come in where help has been short but have always been polite. Spoke up about price on steak night. Showed the sign out side said 14.99 but was charged more. Plus out automatic tip which was new as we've had larger parties with no tip added. None of this bothered me too much until I saw a post on Facebook. The employee responding was rude, unprofessional and down right hateful. Didn't care for the comment and seem to feel like they could respond however they felt. Being a business, explain and be done. Do not have to get mean and ugly. Will not be returning to this establishment after 2 years of enjoying it.

Yelp
Based on the warm greetings I got from the lovely ladies at the bar and the taste of my food, there's no reason to rate The Winchester anything less than 5 stars. Those bangers were easily the juiciest sausages I have ever eaten, and although I didn't get the mushroom gravy, (I'm not big on mushrooms) the mash had great buttery flavor and was well seasoned. I know that I'll be back for more, or maybe even something else on the menu...

Yelp
I came here about a year and a half ago and the service and vibe left a lot to be desired. After returning recently they have really turned this place around. Service was friendly and prompt and I look foreword to seeing how far they can take this new direction. Wow! I'm excited about the current improvements and can't wait to return to see how they're doing!
