The WindMill of Asbury Park

I brought my friend here for the first time who has never experienced windmill. It was also his first trip to Asbury Park. Of course The Windmill is Asbury Park! The staff was amazingly patient as he was amazed by all the thousand choices, but even with that he developed his own first time, hot dog of which they courteously made for him.

Always a necessary stop when I visit family in the area. Everything is consistently delicious! My favorite meal is: a hotdog on the grill(crispy)with whatever toppings I'm craving Cheese fries Fried mushrooms (with horseradish sauce)

I went in this location on 07/10/25 and had the best experience. This place is “SUPER CLEAN” compared to other locations nearby. Juanita took my order and was very pleasant. After chatting for a bit I learned she was the manager and had been with Windmill a very long time. She is an incredible manager, very nice and helpful and you can tell it’s because of her loving her job she stays on top of this place with her co-workers as if it was her own. I must say I will definitely visit this location over the others because of how clean it is, how she treats the customers and for the great service etc I received. A+++

Absolutely incredible. Tasty beyond reason. Fresh fired on the grill right in front of us, and we waited only 4 minutes for a meal that was just amazing. Appropriate amount of toppings on everything, especially the onions on that dog. The bite, the crack of the skin on the windmill dog, and that nice char on the burger patty, with a soft flakey bun. Flawless. Shout out to Ocean Grove Windmill for a perfect first experience here, we'll be back!!!!

I had such an amazing experience here stopping in for lunch with my mom and 2-year-old son. As soon as we walked in, Juanita greeted us with a smile and before we knew it, we were engaging in a conversation. The food was delicious, as always, but the entire experience was great. Juanita even talked to her diners as we all ate our meals. 5 stars for sure, and I’ll most definitely be back to this location in particular!

Excellent location! This windmill was great with super nice staff and equally as great food. Their burgers were super juicy and flavorful, and their chili dog was CRAZY GOOD! We also got their loaded fries which were also delicious. Amazing job Windmill!

Windmill hotdogs are our favorite! I get mine without a bun since I'm celiac. They're equally as delicious! Very good service at this location!

First visit, but I'm well acquainted with the chain. The staff made a point to direct me to the special Wednesday 1/2 price senior specials. While they didn't nail my 'make it as rare as possible' Bug Ed burger, the fries were piping hot, the place was spotless, the bathroom clean.

I love wanitta. she's the nicest person ever and so happy. I wish she was my mom. I hope I can come back

A Jersey Shore icon although, I'm not sure why exactly. The hot dog snapped in all the right places, the fries were crispy and the lemonade was lemony and refreshing. As grub on the go goes, it was highly satisfying but not nearly the out of body experience promised by their reputation and my hyperventilating friends. Sometimes a hot dog is just a hot dog. Four stars.

I stopped by for some dogs and the experience was awful. The place was empty except for two people who were ordering and there was a cook and another guy with glasses talking to the person ordering and waving us off several times before we decided this wait was not worth it and we waved The Windmill goodbye! If the place is busy I get it. But when it isn't and we are waiting like 10 minutes just to take the order because this person wants to bullshit with the other customer, we just left. Like the food, but where was the service?

I rate it a 5 star for what it is...I've eaten foods from all over the world...except from places you can only reach by small boat at certain tides and I've eaten some of their cuisine also...stuff there isn't even a name for in America and stuff when I was eating the locals were laughing so I didn't know what it was but that's the same with a hot dog... It's backyard grill style burgers and hotdogs and many places don't offer that especially at a good price...you yes you can drop the same amount of money at a drive thru for something grilled a month earlier and reheated on the grill or you can treat yourself to a place like Windmill. There aren't to many places I know of that offer the food quality and price found at The Windmill. I've eaten five dollar burgers and I've eaten Father's Office 15+ dollar gourmet burgers, Umami burgers, Smashburgers, dogs from DerWeneirschnitzel (sp?) and I like them all...but around here I really like The Windmill.

Typical hole in the wall hotdog spot. Not to bad, I like the traditional ambiance and old school feel. Nothing super spectacular to write about or complain for that matter. The cheese fries were good and my daughter liked da hotdogs, and the staff was cool. So again, no complaints at all. I'd return if I was in the area.

Our hot dog was hot, fresh, and yummy! There was no line. Employees were busy cleaning the facility when we arrived. The location is sketchy and we were bothered by a disheveled looking man whose pants had slipped below his bottom in the parking lot. I will not return to this restaurant due to the unsafe neighborhood conditions.

Went to this location to pick up a meal for my elderly mother. Terrible customer service and very ghetto female working there with colored hair. They got my order wrong and she wanted to argue with me about it, while I'm watching you fix it. Luckily the guy that was the cashier started to correct my order while the female with no home training continued to perform. It was embarrassing for this establishment to have such terrible person working for them. I know you need workers but she is not it.

3 stars because they close at 8:30 pm. Windmill should be open late like 2 am for late night after bar food. This feels like the bizarro windmill.

Definitely get the hot dogs. Great snap, flavorful and juicy. The hot dogs sit on a flat-top, ready for customers walking in. I heard a few people requesting their dogs "on the fire", which means they throw them on the grill grates (where burgers are prepared). I'll have to try that next time. Burger had a nice char-broiled flavor, which hit me with a wave of nostalgia. Fries were just okay, I could skip those next time. Overall, recommend for a quick bite!

I checked the menu on their website and it looked like a great place with delicious food. But when we got there, and got our food, we were disappointed. The food was disgusting. I wouldn't recommend eating here.

Hot dogs are so big! ugh love this place, cant wait to go back for another fix :-D fries great, dogs great, burgers great. Overall yum

Stopped here after craving it for a long time. I just happened to be in the area. The hot dog was delicious. Just as advertised. Big and juicy. The free sautéed onions made it. Brown mustard of course. Cheeseburger was charbroiled and tasty. The crinkle cut fries were nice and crispy. And a cold root beer. The server was great too. Nice guy. Can't wait to return.

Stopped by to try out one of their chili dogs on the way home from the shore and I'm glad I did. Placed the order at the counter and it was a very short wait for the order. They have both inside and outside seating so we chose to sit outside since it's a beautiful sunny day. The hotdog was plump and juicy and had that great snap when you bite into it and the chili was so good too! I just wish the roll was a little more substantial. Employees were very nice and friendly and thanked us for coming on the way out too... Definitely stop by for a great hotdog when your in the area...

We stopped here after the beach to grab lunch. I had a three-piece chicken tender and fries, and a lemonade, and my boyfriend had a fried onion hot dog with onion rings, and a lemonade $30. Staff was friendly, food was good and restaurant was clean.

Fat, huge, juicy hot dogs with skin that snaps. Tasty, REAL, chili (store made - NOT from a can) for chili dogs. Perfectly crisp fries. (Commercial ones, but appealingly prepared.) Whimsical dining area with a colorful mural of area landmarks and other beach-y bits. Friendly staff. Nostalgic! I recall the Long Branch Windmill from childhood. Love this outpost, too. Senior discount on Wednesdays. A happy discovery by chance on our last visit!

Best dogs at the Shore! Want a real treat get the cheese fries! My favorite is the chili dog. There is a reason it's been here so long. Another bonus ... the owners do a lot for the communities they serve so enjoy your food it's good people, good food!!

Always wanted to try Windmill! Finally got the chance on our trip to Asbury Park with my dog. The hot dogs are giant and fresh. I prefer my dogs grilled than boiled like you may see at a competitor such as Nathan's. Not sure if they're worth the hefty price tag. I just wanted to get a plain one for my pup and it came to a total that was over $5. This particular location is nice because it has outdoor picnic tables.

Nice clean place inside. I ordered a chili dog, fries and a soda. They gave me the choice of a well done dog or not. (I like it well) The fries were frozen crinkle cut. The dog was big though not that flavorful. The chili was good like homemade style, not the sauce type. Overall it was good except for the price. $10 for a dog, fries and a drink. Too much for me. I probably won't be back because of that.

The hot dogs are delicious, high quality and humongous. The chili cheese dog was great. Windmill makes those hot dogs that snap when you bite into them. The service is friendly and the restaurant is spotless. I highly recommend!

Pretty good hot dog. I went here after all the praise from a co worker, and the hot dog does indeed "snap" when bitten into. It tasted ok and is a pretty decent size. Fries aren't too much extra, and the drinks are free refills so that's a nice perk. The servers were nice and the actual resturant was clean. I ate outside and the umbrellas weren't up and the music wasn't working right, but overall it was ok, next time I'll try their burger.

Been there a few times now and had a pretty consistent experience where it is not well staffed. Typically one is working and the other is not. Place is clean but service is bad and shows no signs of improving. Want to go there more but wont till this improves.

Never again! I have no idea why I even came here! I think it was because my buddy needed to use the bathroom so he went in and got a hot dog and beverage. I am the garbage disposal and yup he gave me the hot dog after taking 1 bite. Now I know why he gave me the dog. U gotta be kidding me! How do these places stay in business is beyond me. But we can fix that! You want a hot dog? You want a burger? Cheesesteaks? Pulled pork? Sausage, peppers and onions? Just head over to Sonny's Grille in the Belmar mall around the corner. Wear tight socks because Sonny's food will knock'em clean off. Go get yourself some good food. You deserve it!!!!

4 stars for being one of a kind! We have nothing like this in NYC! They bill themselves as gourmet fast food! I agree! Windmill is a small chain on the Jersey shore and a new one is opening in Hoboken soon. Windmill is old world Americana charm and goodness. It makes you feel like you are going back in time to an America long gone. Some of the best hot dogs anywhere! Free relish, free sour kraut, free mustard, and as old school Brooklynites say if its free it's for me! Fresh juicy char grilled burgers ,French Fries Cheese Fries, Chili Cheese Fries, Onion Rings, Breaded Mushrooms Homemade Chili,Charbroiled Rib Eye Steak, on a Hoagie Roll w/, Sautéed Onions, Charbroiled Chicken Breast, on a Hard Roll w/ Lettuce, Tomato & Your choice of BBQ Sauce or Hellmann's Mayo, Crispy Chicken,w/ Hellmann's Mayo & Lettuce, Fried Filet of Flounder, on a Hoagie Roll w/ Lettuce & Tomato, on a Hard Roll w/ Lettuce &Tomato, Boneless Chicken Wings w/ fries, fountain drinks, kids menus, plus chili cheese hot dogs, old time Americana food. I have been to most of the locations. This one may be the cleanest. The employees are usually friendly and helpful. However on July 4th , the kid who was working I think may have been the owners grandson or something. He acted like he owned the place and was not happy about working on July 4th. I have seen the owner. The murals on the wall have pictures of him and his wife so we recognized him from the murals when he drove up in his convertible last year. The service is usually good it was just July 4th weekend that the service was a little off. I will give it a pass because anyone can have an off day. One great thing about having cancer was I could eat like an animal and not gain weight. I do not have cancer any more so I have to watch what I eat now. Bummer! I will still go to Windmill but I have to take it easy on the double orders of cheese fries!

I'm going to be the bad guy here yet once again. I don't see all the hype. Yes, they are one of a kind, especially the giant Windmill that serves as the Long Branch location. Yes, the food is pretty good. However, you pay a pretty penny for it. I've been twice now. The food on the menu looks amazing but has yet to impress me. Don't get me wrong it's not bad. In fact, I really enjoyed the cheese fries. However, it is not worth the money. For the same quality, you can pay less and be just as satisfied.

The Windmill, is what it is and that's all what it is, a pure and simple hot-dog joint, but oh what a dog. There is no ambiance, pretension, or amenity, just a good ole dog with all the fixins. It is located on Main street in downtown Asbury Park and 7 other outlets along the Jersey shore, it is an attraction to all of us who crave a hot dog now and again. Their menu is simple: burgers, fries, grilled chicken, and dogs. I think they have the other stuff on the menu just because - well, I am not sure why they have other things on the menu. If you crave a hot-dog this is the place.

Nice people. HORRIBLE food. The worst burger I've ever experienced. They asked how I wanted it. I said medium because I questioned the meat quality...this thing was charred to the max. Dry and black. Just like the bun. It tasted like they scraped the char off the grill, molded it into a partty, and served it on a Costco bun. Just a travesty to food. I wonder what would have happened if I ordered well done. Might have been a rock from the garden. Probably would have been better, frankly. The dogs looked better though.

The Windmill has great dogs and burgers. I personally like the burgers more. Service is fast. It's quick and easy. Also they even have veggie burgers, good fries etc. Is this an amazing restaurant? No. Is Windmill a great fast food place, with unique "snap in your mouth" hot dogs. Yes!! Fun to stop at on the way to the beach.

Stick to what they do best - hot dogs and stay away from everything else on the menu. The wife and I ordered steak sandwiches today. What a disaster. They were poorly prepared. The roll and the cheese were burnt. Not well-done but burnt. Even if they weren't burnt, they still were a poor excuse for a steak sandwich. The meat was so thick and tough you could hardly get through it. I went there today because I had read that New Jersey Monthly named their cheese steak the best at the Shore in 1996. Either NJ Monthly is very easily impressed or the 12 years since that review has seen some changes in the Windmill cheese steak. The hot dogs are always good, which is why I am giving it 3 stars. I'd give 1 star if everything was like the steak sandwiches.

I've been hearing so much about Windmill for so long that I had to give it a try when I passed by it. My first experience was underwhelming , yet I returned twice more with others who wanted to give it a try despite my warnings. First the hot dogs. Not a bad hot dog, but I've had far better. And almost $5 a pop? Insane, I don't care how big they are. Which brings me to that, why so big? The things overhang the bun by about an inch and a half on each end. That's about 3 inches that that can't hold toppings, a waste. Use a bun that fits the dog or use a normal sized dog. On two of my three visits the buns were stale. Burgers? Forget them. I knew there would be issues the moment I noticed the cook pressing down on the burger with the back of her spatula. Anybody who knows anything about cooking burgers knows this is a no no, because it squeezes out the juices and leaves you with a dry burger, which is what I got. Scary that a cook in a burger and hot dog joint doesn't know the basics of cooking a burger. Even without that the meat was unimpressive. If you like McDonalds "hamburgers" you'll love these. If you want a decent hamburger, don't bother. Fries are pretty good, but the place isn't worth the trip for the fries alone. Staff was very nice and I liked the fries so it gets an extra star for that.

My son and I stopped in for a last minute decision for dinner. I was so pleasantly surprised to be greeted by Juanita, who made us a delicious hamburger and dog. The grill and kitchen and dining room where exceptionally clean! !! We decided to stay! We will be back!

Hot Dogs with a snap and toppings galore. You think the hot dog is so big how and I going to eat the entire thing? Next thing you know, your buying another...its that GOOD.... OR-like me and my mother--we split another. The cheese fries are THE BEST. I like to get my cheese on the side to keep the delighful crunch of the fries. The Levine family (owners) do so much for the community around them. You can feel good, feel full and very satisfied after visiting The Windmill.

This place is pretty darn good if you are not seeking healthy food. I did have the veggie burger here but I would still not say that it was healthy. The veggie burger is served on a toasty bun with mayonnaise, lettuce, cheese, tomatoes and then I added pickles, ketchup, mustard and some of the spicy hot dog relish. It was a big ol' mess but it was tasty. The cheese fries have rightly deserved all their acclaim - they were delicious. I also tried the onion rings which were very good onion rings. The staff was friendly and helpful - they even cooked me a new veggie burger and delivered it to me when the one they were cooking for me got too well done. It's not a super cheap place but it was good and filling. It's definitely a step up from your standard fast food.

Definitely go here for the chilli cheese dogs and chilli cheese fries. The dogs are large and filling and the fries are a good portion with lots of chilli and cheese. Its a bit pricey but well worth it. This windmill location is not an actual windmill like the one in long branch. It is however a good place if you want to get away from the crowds on the beach, have a really good meal in an air conditioned sanctuary from the hot sun. I took away one star simply because it was not closer to the beach but I guess thats what keeps it from getting mobbed with people.

Nothing beats a windmill, unless it is a giant inflatable gorilla like the one out front at this place, holding a hot-dog hostage in one arm as though it were a leggy blond. Came here to relive my boyfriend's boyhood memory. The windmill at Ocean grove was convenient, although not within walking distance of the beach. The hot dogs on the fire had a terrific grilled taste and snap and there were many pickle/relish options to spice things up. This may end up being a new tradition.

The guys are really cool who work here. The dog is great but the fries are eh. The price is a bit steep too.

The gold standard of fast food. The burgers and fries are so damn good. I'm obsessed with this place. I don't understand why it's not like a national chain. It's so damn good.

I already knew I loved their food. Best dogs and fries around for sure!! But I want to rave about their service at the OG location. I had been at the Belmar location since I wanted a shake, but was told I couldn't use a voucher I bought there so off I went to OG. Well, the guys here were awesome!!!!! They worked with me to spend the $20 I needed and not go over while not ordering food I wouldn't eat. Made sure everything was perfect before I left even though other customers had come in. Thanks to them I will still be going to Windmill for lunch, although I'll stick the the OG location from now on. I can get a shake across the street if I feel the urge and save myself the drama across the bridge!

As Windmill first timers we had a great first Experience! Great friendly service from Juanita, Lauren and Tyler!

This is the greasiest place on the face of the earth. I stopped eating fries for 6 months after eating here. Not recommended by me.
