On the Grid : The Windmill Pub

"The Windmill is a true rare gem - famed for their live music every night of the week and long lasting reputation of championing new music - and the well loved 'Roof Dog', who is sadly no longer with us. Nestled down a side street off Brixton Hill, this establishment attracts locals and people from afar. Always a memorable experience with a reasonably priced bar, great crowd and summer weekend BBQ’s." - Eley Kishimoto

Tucked away behind many of the large buildings near to the Thames, is this great little pub that has a fantastic design inside. I'd highly suggest going inside if you haven't yet been.

Wonderful lunch today. The English breakfast pizza was a super delicious surprise. The pizza and a pint special for weekday lunch was exactly what we needed after a long train trip. Fabulous service, too :)

This was the Perfect spot for lunch! We had wonderful pizzas and pints. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was perfect. They were able to accommodate my dietary needs. The owner was so lovely and helped these 2 tourists plan our day tomorrow with must-see London activities. We had a great time! We’ll be back!

Small little hidden gem... Great food and decent beer selection. Apparently they are known for their scotch eggs and they are made by the owner. They do sell out early so get there by lunch

🚇 Vauxhall 🍺 £5.90 Staropramen ❤️ A fantastic traditional Lambeth pub. . The Windmill pub is located on Lambeth High Street which is just a stone’s throw away from Lambeth bridge. The nearest tube is Vauxhall which is a ten minute walk away. Lambeth High Street was once a bustling thoroughfare with shops and retailers selling goods and services, today there are no shops left on this High Street. . There has been a pub on this site since the late 18th century. The current building was built in 1880. . The decor here is traditional and feels that it hasn’t changed for many years. That said, the place is immaculate and the fixtures and fittings look new but new thirty years ago. The seating is a mixture of poser tables, low lever seating and comfy leather winged chairs. This pub’s traditional credentials are rubber stamped by the red carpet, pool table and dart board. . The beer choice is diverse and has a pretty strong lineup including four real ales. I had a pint of Staropramen, my pint was great and just under average price. The food menu is all about homemade pizza, most pizzas cost around £11. . The atmosphere here is welcoming, homely, this pub is easy to settle in to. I visited on a Friday lunchtime and the pub was fairly busy. There were a few suits, a group of American ladies enjoying the pizza and a few day trippers. The service here was first class, the chap who served me was down to earth and very personable. . The @the_windmill_pub_lambeth is only open Monday to Friday and currently closed until the 11th January. This is a superb pub and can’t recommend a visit here highly enough. Great beer, hearty food and a pleasant ambiance, get this pub on your radar for 2023, you’ll love it. . ℹ️ Info correct on visiting 11/11/22

Yelp
Quiet neighborhood pub near the river. Was pretty quiet on a Monday around 5:30 but got a bit busier later on. Did not eat here so rating is only based on ambiance and beer. They had London Pride which I really like and the bartender was nice and attentive. Overall a nice little neighborhood pub to have a couple of pints. Cheers!

Yelp
I stumbled upon this little pub when researching the history of Lambeth Pottery. What a find. It's a proper pub. Quite quirky inside with a great selection of beers, wines and spirits plus soft drinks and coffee. If you like Rum this is the place for you. The food is freshly cooked and the pint and a pizza deal, any topping, Im sure can't be beaten anywhere locally. Welcoming friendly staff, soft armchairs and sofas. There is a pool table and darts board too. If you are in the area do visit you won't be disappointed.

Yelp
Just behind our hotel. Super authentic Havnt Rayn here yet but was super happy to find it Leanna was like "there aren't any girls in here." I'll give a full report when I give it a good visit

Yelp
We ordered a (1) ceasar salad which was essentially only white iceberg lettuce, cheese and sauce - no croutons or greenish lettuce. Incredibly plain. (2) chili with tortilla chips but there was not a single full sized chip - just the crumbles in the bottom. I was very disappointed by the food. Ambience is good, the only redeeming factor.

Yelp
This place looks great. Hanging ivy and country charm on Lambeth High Street (they should have changed the name when the shops went). Inside regular food and pints on offer. The service was not great even though the guy tried but the woman was useless. I know I should not make this personal but I do not know why some of these folks are in the service industry. Food was edible and probably worth what was spent. 5 quid for a pub burger in this area is a deal. If you are near and need a pub lunch - go for it. Otherwise there is a lot better. Sorry lady

Yelp
I love this place so much, it's just perfect, I only ever take good friends for fear of it getting too crowded with every tom, dick and harry!! Perfect escape from the tourists. Just a really friendly local pub with great decor and a fantastic range of reasonably priced drinks including blue moon and loads of ales! The roof terrace is spot on with a covered area, BBQ and TV for football. Inside is cosy yet airy and the front has lots of space to spill out as its on a virtually deserted side street. The food looks good and is reasonably priced though I've not eaten there much myself. Staff, landlord and regulars are all fab people. My favourite pub in the area!

Yelp
Great little place, friendly bartender, decent wine, fun little (by US standards) pool table

Yelp
Was not greeted kindly by staff was told to leave if I was not going to buy anything. First time in London not the way I wanted to start my pub experience. Cozy place good beer on the other hand.

Yelp
Nice spot to get a pint. It's cozy inside and staff is friendly. Food was passable. I had a jacket potato with beans. Came with a bit of salad. They weren't bothered that we had our baby with us, but I wouldn't take kids here, generally, due to it being smallish inside and not targeted toward kids, being that it's a pub ;)

Yelp
Went in this week during the day for a quiet pint. Nicely off the beaten track and suitably quiet. Good food served by nice friendly staff. Hasn't been 'made over' like a modern gastropub so if you're looking for somewhere glamorous then I'd advise you try somewhere else. If you like an old school boozer with no tourists and a quiz machine then this could be great for your needs.

Yelp
Super pub, great staff with a fine selection of beers, wines and spirits. We had a great evening there Wednesday night. A real hidden away gem that hopefully will stay as the independent traditional victorian pub it was always. The place has a quirky charm which is a million miles from the pub chains. Food is good too. I would highly recommend a visit.
