Here are 6 Snowy MICHELIN Guide Hotels to Hit the Slopes
"Located in Shimizu, Japan, this refined retreat offers stunning lake views and exclusive access to the Windsor Snow Village, with private lifts to uncrowded powdery slopes for skiing and snowboarding." - Faye Bradley
"A luxury resort on Hokkaido island, the Windsor Hotel Toya carries a certain cachet in Japan as the setting for the 2008 G8 summit. It continues to stay fit for world leaders and royalty, putting an emphasis on relaxation in nature and fine dining. The Windsor Hotel chefs have earned an impressive five Michelin stars in the French, Japanese and teppanyaki restaurants, plus more casual options include pizza, sushi, and Chinese cuisine. Live music in the lobby accompanies the breathtaking views of Lake Toya and the bay of Uchiura, and the cable car also takes in Nakajima island in the lake and Mount Yokei in the distance. The hotel has an exclusive onsen for guests with Japanese cypress and stone baths. The spa offers massages and reflexology, body treatments, and Vichy shower rooms, and the Crystal Blue Club has a gym and 25-meter indoor swimming pool under a glass ceiling. The Windsor Hotel is a 90-minute train ride from New Chitose Airport, with shuttle service available from the train station."
We ended up at this hotel by chance as another hotel we booked in the area was well below expectations so needed to find somewhere else for that night.
This hotel is is very unique in terms of location and appearance from the outside, and whilst I was sceptical the hotel was nothing short of amazing! The staff are incredibly helpful, the view from the rooms is out of this world. Whilst the rooms may be on the older side you wouldn’t know as they have been maintained extremely well. The breakfast at the French restaurant was exceptional best we had on our trip. Pizza at the Italian restaurant also well surpassed our expectations. Highly recommend this unique hotel.

This is the most amazing hotel i have ever visited. The foyer alone is a major attraction but the view from the junior suite, across Lake toya and Mt Yotei is just the most spectacular view i have ever experienced. This hotel is perched atop a mountain and is not easily accessible so I highly recommend a hire car. We saw dear on the road on the way back from town one night, and a resident fox walking the roads almost daily.
The restaurants are Michelin quality so we ate most nights in town, but it's only a 15min drive and there are fireworks every night to watch while your there. Meals start at around 12000 yen pp at the hotel.
The golf course is enjoyable though was in recovery stage from winter when we were there, but it's challenging and the views spectacular. Staff are absolutely amazing. Everything is silver service. Get your IHG membership and book through the app to get some pretty awesome extras when you get there.

The only thing that makes this hotel 5 stars is the high prices. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed in the service. The hotel is old and urgently needs renovation. It seems as if the last bit of money is being squeezed out of the old box. The owners obviously only think about maximizing profits and have no passion for the customer. In short, there is obviously a lack of staff. ||When we wanted to check in 2 minutes before 3 p.m., the room was not ready. We had to wait. We used this time to visit the toilet next to the reception, which was unhygienic and smelled bad. Next to the toilet bowl, there was paper with a used toothbrush on the floor. The toilet seat had urine stains. There was obviously not enough staff to fix this. When we then went to the room, we saw the cleaning crew running around on our floor. We felt so sorry for the ladies working under such stress. Now we knew why our room was ready too late. There is simply not enough staff. Such a stressful atmosphere does not belong in a 5-star hotel. ||The management should show more respect for its employees and customers and improve this untenable situation immediately. ||The breakfast was very modest and the plates were not cleared. The quality of the food has nothing to do with what we paid for. Terrible!||When we checked out, we were presented with a bill for almost 4 USD (600 yen) bathing fee, even though we did not bathe in this hotel for hygiene reasons. Such a ridiculous amount should be included in the room price of over 300 USD. The lady at the reception was unfriendly and had no understanding for our displeasure.||The price/performance ratio of this hotel is a disaster. Never again!

Absolute amazing experience, peak of Japanese hospitality. We made a last minute booking due to a trip with many variables. The concierge managed to arrange for a booking at the sushi restaurant in the hotel: Shoan Kogetsu. Chef Takahiro Tsutsumi managed to create an amazing meal that would be worth coming here even if the hotel didn't have an amazing view over the lake. All round top experience, couldn't recognise this more.

Always think about someday would like to visit this place and here we were. We rode the train from Sapporo station to Toya station and the hotel bus was there waiting. The view , the room, the location are amazing. The hotel has a long history with many stories but it still looks like a new hotel. Breakfast has 2 choices that you could pick. We picked buffet which was great. It wasn’t cheap to stay but it was amazing memories for us!!!

Being our honeymoon trip. Excellent service and amenities provided by the hotel. The hotel provides many activities and a private area for ski and snowboarding. The onsen is fantastic according to my wife, but a waste as I have tattoos and am not able to utilise it. Overall I look forward to be staying here again in the near future.

Let say this hotel is one of the best hotels I've experienced in Japan. Big room and big bathtub. Many choices of restaurants, especially, for breakfast. This hotel has the peaceful lobby and peaceful music where we can see the view of foggy and snow.

Yelp
Breakfast at Windsor hotel. Limited selection and mediocre food. Omelette station didn't have any people there. Lots of food were cold. Fish was overly cooked and dry.... nothing was to Windsor quality!!

Yelp
The high end price doesn't mean high level service. The receptionist made a mistake about our dinner reservation for sushi and can't rearrange it again, finally we got a very awful buffet in a basement, they don't even offer the juice and beer on the buffet, you need pay for the beverages additionally. Worst day in this trip, very disappointed.
