Yelp
TLDR: Chicken Lettuce Cups.
I really wanted to give this a higher star review, mainly because it's obviously a family-owned restaurant, with the added bonus that the parents are from HK. Super-friendly, not just to us because of my HK wife, but I noticed she was chatty with all customers, be they white or Chinese. Her Mandarin is not that great, with a thick Canto accent that even _I_ could understand.
But if we set aside the friendliness, the food just is average. We would still prefer Kwok Bistro. However, if the Bistro is every full or closed due to a private event, then may I suggest you try this place?
It's a little bit geared toward the ABC crowd, as they serve forks, but they still make a concession to their roots by providing chopsticks. This dichotomy is even present in the menu, where the front of the menu is mainly populated by "American Chinese" food, while they have 1 page in the back, devoted to the Chinese Chinese food.
My wife ordered a bowl of soup, which she thought was ok. I liked the lettuce cups, especially when it's reinforced by double lettuce to make it more sturdy. The cups that only have 1 thin leaf, it's hard to hold. The chicken was cooked well. We also ordered the salt and pepper spareribs. It was too bony for me. There was even one piece that were 3 ribs still attached together, so it made it really hard to get at the meat in between the ribs. Overall, a bit hard to eat mechanically. The last thing we ordered was the traditional fried noodle... the crunchy kind. Unfortunately, the noodles weren't really crunchy... I've had crispier for sure.
Overall, this place is a bit lower than Kwok's. However, the place is much bigger.
